Dates and numbers:
There are -6 days until your due date on May 14, 2008.
You are 286 days pregnant.
You are 9.4 months pregnant.
You are in your 10th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: August 09, 2007 to November 07, 2007. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: November 08, 2007 to February 20, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: February 21, 2008 to May 15, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
You are definitely considered full-term now and you are probably anticipating the arrival of your newborn. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is around 15 inches and your baby is now about 21.5 inches long total. Your baby weighs about 7.5 pounds and your uterus is about 8 inches above the top of your bellybutton.
Your official due date will be sometime this week and you probably have a prenatal check up this week to check for labor progress. Try to stay calm while you are waiting for labor to begin. You should have all of your bags packed and ready to go and your birth plan should be in place. Your labor coach should know what your wishes are and you should be able to get in touch with your labor coach at all times. Use false labor contractions to practice breathing and relaxation techniques that you will use during the actual labor itself.
Your baby continues to move further down the birth canal and this is measured in stations. Station describes the degree to which the presenting part of the baby has descended into the birth canal. The 0 point is a bone landmark in the pelvis, the starting point of the birth canal. If your baby's head is at a -2 station, it means the head is higher inside of you than if your baby were at a +2 station.
After your baby is born, she will be weighed and measured. Your baby may cry loudly or she may be dazed from medications. The doctor will suction your baby's mouth and throat with an aspirator. The nurses will dry her off and place a hat on her head to help keep her warm. Security tags will be placed around her arms and ankles and your baby will be swaddled in a blanket. You will be given the chance to hold your baby right after you have delivered. Shortly after, the nurses generally take the baby to the nursery for a bath and other routine procedures. Your baby will be given Apgar scores according to her condition at 1 and 5 minutes of birth. A total of 10 points can be scored. A score of 10 is unusual and most babies receive scores of 7, 8 or 9. A baby with a low 1-minute score might need to be resuscitated and usually the 5 minute score is much higher after he has time to adjust to life outside of the uterus.
APGAR SCORE:
*Heart rate of baby-If your baby does not have a heart rate a score of 0 is given. If the baby's heart rate is less than 100 bpm, a score of 1 is given. If the heart rate is over 100 bpm, a score of 2 is given.
*Respiratory effort of the baby- If your baby is not breathing, a score of 0 is given. If breathing is slow and irregular, a score of 1 is recorded. If your baby is crying and breathing well, a score of 2 is recorded.
*Baby's muscle tone-If your baby's arms and legs are limp and flabby, the score is 0. If some movement is observed and the arms and legs bend a little, a score of 1 is recorded. A score of 2 is given to babies that are active and moving.
*Reflex irritability of the baby-If your baby does not respond to stimulus, a score of 0 is given. If there is a small reflex when the baby is stimulated, a score of 1 is recorded. If your baby responds vigorously when stimulated, 2 points are given.
*Baby's color- If your baby is blue or pale, a score of 0 is given. A score of 1 is given if your baby's body is pink and the arms and legs are blue. If your baby's entire body is pink, a score of 2 is recorded.
At the time of birth, the baby has a total of 300 bones. Some bones will fuse together later, which is why an adult has only 206 bones.
Almost there! Did you know that we also have a month by month calendar for babies? You can find it in the menu under `Babies`: Month by month

Any first time moms out there who are totally weirded (HAHAHA) out by breastfeeding? Like, the actual act of breastfeeding... I want Little Babe to have the milk and everything but the idea of someone other than hubby 'paying attention' to that area is so icky to me. Any ideas on how to get over this grossed out feeling??havinababyinmay -

Ok... I found out I get induced tomorrow morning!! I'm excited and scared at the same time. My baby is being adopted by a wonderful couple, so it will be a bittersweet time. I have so much joy for them, they deserve a family finally! But, my arms will be empty when I return home.heathereve -

4 days past due! no mucous, no show, no contractions...some minor lower back pain when I woke up for about 5 minutes. Looks like me and ~Danish~ will be preggos forever!! LOL My inlaws are here and they are totally missing it! They are going to have to fly back home before anything happens. I pictured all of us walking the mall getting pictures done together with new baby and all that...guess not.heathereve -

Today is my due date too. But I feel like nothing is really going on :( Ive been living at my cousins house with his wife and kids for the past week and a bit- although they are great hosts I really want to go home. Thing is, my home towns hospital will not deliver first borns........so Im down here till it happens. Husband is still at home working becuase there really isnt much point in us both sitting around waiting-and the industry could up and shut down anytime so we need to make the cash when we can......do you always have to have days and days of bh contractions or back pain etc before labour- or do some people have no sign and then just go straight into labour???? I hope thats me- if not I have a few days of torture ahead..........think if i go jogging things will get started???!! lolxobeckyxo -

~DPCas~ you're a nice husband! She probably doesn't want to just be sitting around thinking and contemplating about that pending induction. She calms her nerves by working. Good for you guys! Congrats and good luck!!!! DPCas -

hklaw & KevinsMILF - I have absolutely no way to understand what you guys, or my wife, is going through, but she is now 11 days overdue and still going to work, as a nurse on her feet all day for 8 hrs. She's being induced Thurs. morning at 6AM & is wondering whether to work a full day or half day Wednesday!!! And the kicker is that we're not exactly struggling, so she doesn't need to be working! hahaha I don't know what she puts in her wheaties but I am unbelievably impressed. I have nothing but the highest regards for you guys and what you are going through. When you guys start to think that we were all probably hoping the baby would come out a week or two early, it really means this pregnancy has been about 3-4 weeks longer than we'd hoped. AHHHH!
Well, good luck to you ladies...monkeymamma -

just got back from doctor and not dilated at all. Is anyone else not dilated? this is ridiculous to say the least. so much for asking for membranes sweep. the worst thing about it is that they wont talk induction until i am 42 weeks. andddddd my amniotic fluid keeps dropping and is at a 7. they say its low and if it gets to 5 they have to induce. so why not just induce now?aubreyd08 -

Hi ladies! Just want to say Ethan William was born last Wed, May 14 at 5:50pm. 7lbs, 14 oz and 21 inches long. I delivered him vaginally without pain meds because the 2 epidurals they tried failed. It was worth every minute, he is perfect! I posted a pic and my birth story. Can't wait to hear from all of you, see your pics and read your stories. Hope you're all doing well!firstmaybaby -

well im 40+2 days pregnant today and still no sign of anything happening!! no mucous no bloody show no baby!! i keeo gettting calls and e-mails and text messages too asking why haven't i had the baby yet and they just don't stop!! my doctor's appt is not til fri so im hoping that i go before than because im jsut so uncomfortable and have trouble sleeping on my sides now. so i basically sit up while i sleep and my butt and back can only take that for so long til i have to move positions and then im up all night. i would rather lose sleep over having to get up and care for my baby than lose sleep from being uncomfortable or in pain. i hope not much longer now!!bo -

The ONLY things men are allowed to say during pregnancy: 1. 'Let me do that' 2. 'From the back you don't even look pregnant.' 3.' I could never do what you do. EVER!' 4.' I don't think you can get any more beautiful than that.' 5. 'She will be beautiful and smart just like her mother.' 6.' Right or left foot?' 7. 'You let me know when you are ready.' 8. 'All these celebrities are ridiculous, losing their baby weight in 4 weeks. If you had a personal trainer, chef and a nanny...' 9. 'What smell?' 10.' I love you.'danish-girl -

13 days overdue. Had some more mucus this morning. Some contractions, but nothing serious or worth calling anyone about. They are about 15 minutes apart still - like they have been for weeks. I swear, it's like this is all mental prepping for labor. I cried and cried and cried to my hubby last night about how miserable it is to be a million effing days overdue. I just don't think anyone understands unless they have actually walked in the 42nd week of pregnancy. I walk around silently SCREAMING at f&^%$@# EVERYTHING. I better get some good bragging rights for all this anguish and misery!!!!!!debi3 -

Hey girls, I have decided being THIS preggo sucks. I'm so tired of answering emails and phone calls and text messages from friends and family that mean well, but are so insensitive. My mother in law told me yeaterday that she 'COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDS' how I feel. I wanted to reach through the phone and slap her. Then this morning she text messages me, 'ANY ACTION?' I want to text message her back and tell her we had the baby, but forgot to call her. That would shut her up!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Why are these baby's taking so long? I'm beginning to get resentful. Shame on me. Just wanted to say for all of you that are over 41 weeks, like me that THIS SUCKS! Can I get an amen?debi3 -

Hi ladies, I just wanted to say, hang in there. I was 5 days overdue, I thought my baby would NEVER get here and I thought I would be pregnant forever, I was crying every morning I woke up NOT IN LABOR and now she's almost 2 months old and I have no idea where the time went. So hang in there! It's almost over. ;-) If I can give any advice...let the nurses keep the baby with them at night so you can sleep. They will bring in the baby to nurse and you get a little bit of much needed sleep. Don't feel guilty about it. You won't get any sleep for a few weeks, so take what you can get! Good luck and enjoy! danish-girl -

Hi Everyone, I was reading about baby showers on another site. This is my second child and I was wondering how you all felt about second child showers? This one is going to be a boy does that make it ok to have a second shower? Or should I wait till the baby is born to have a Meet the Baby party? Oh and here is another thing, I want to plan this shower on my own. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks for your helpdanish-girl -
