Dates and numbers:
There are 111 days until your due date on September 05, 2008.
You are 169 days pregnant.
You are 5.5 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: November 30, 2007 to February 28, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: February 29, 2008 to June 12, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: June 13, 2008 to September 05, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
This week your baby's crown-to-rump length is around 8.4 inches and your baby will weigh approximately 1.2 pounds. Although it weighs a little over a pound at this point, your growing baby is still tiny. Your uterus can easily be felt 1.5 to 2 inches above your bellybutton. The fetus does not appear to have much room in the uterus anymore, but as your pregnancy progresses, space gets much tighter!
Because your uterus is expanding and putting a great amount of pressure on your abdomen, you might get stretch marks. Your weight gain may also be taking a toll on your body at this point. Many pregnant women experience backaches, bladder problems, sore feet and fatigue that affect their daily routines. You might also have some nasal stuffiness or nosebleeds.
Your baby's face is basically complete now. The fetus's eyes are close together on the front of his face and they are still shut. Your baby's ears have moved into their final position on the sides of his head. Where they are now is where they will be when your baby is born! Hair will continue to grow on his scalp and his eyelashes are well developed. Most of your baby's features look the same as they will at birth. Because your growing baby is getting plumper, he no longer has room in your tummy to do cartwheels and somersaults.
Now is a good time to ask about prenatal classes being offered in your area. Many local hospitals offer classes for expectant women and their families. You should aim to complete the classes approximately one month before your due date.
You may sometimes get a stitch-like pain in your side from time to time. It's simply the muscles of the uterus stretching.
the unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair called lanugo. Its tender skin is protected by a waxy substance called vernix. Some of this substance may still be on the child's skin at birth at which time it will be quickly absorbed.
The child practices breathing by inhaling (up to a liter/day) amniotic fluid into developing lungs.

Anyone else feeling huge already? I am so uncomfortable and I can't believe we'll only get bigger as the summer goes on. I know it'll be worth it but still...I feel ginormous (and not just in my belly)! Motheroftwo -

Wow... girls, thanks a lot- I'm with Dani- I'm freaking out now. I am making myself not think about it for a couple more months. Keep talking about the benefits, and how you forget, afterwards, so the first timers don't all have heart attacks on the way to the hospital.shirley and maya -

Cora> did you pick up the meds? that sucks about the UTI - I think you arent supposed to have sex until it clears up but I'm not sure. I heard alot of women end up with a yeast infection afterwards from the meds - not fun at all! I had one with my first pregnancy and I could only put cream topically but not inside. That wasnt fun! but thank god they caught it and now you know. We dont even do urine tests here till your 28 weeks along - they didnt even do one when i went to the ER!cjmc2577 -

I was warned that some people get a nasty headache lasting a few days when the epi wears off....but by that time you wouldn't care less about a headache....FirstTimePreggersNJ -

I had an epidural, it didn't hurt at all. I did have a little spot the size of a pea that itched sometimes... nerve ending I suppose. The epi didn't affect my contractions at all, so as you can see, every person has a different experience based on your body. hetibelle -

bobby jo...we call it a spinal block...it's a one off injection as opposed to an epidural which is a constant drip...epidural can be turned up or down.....things are much better and safer than they were before....I wouldn't worry about having an epidural...they have got them down to a fine art...shirley and maya -

I had the epi and the contractions hurt more.ann1333 -

Shirley- yeah, here they leave the catheter in, sometimes for 24 hours+. Until the epidural or what not wears off, or if someone gets a tear, they leave it in longer. Sounds like they used a 'temp cath' on you, like a straw, instead of the foley's. (I used to work in a hospital, here they LOVE their catheters!)ann1333 -

yeah- and people wonder why costs go up. try paying the malpractice insurance to cover doctors'. crazy. We are so screwed up here. Everything is make a buck fast, at the expense of others BobbiJoSargent -

Who has had an epidural? I didn't have one with my son, but I did get a shot in my spine called an intrathecal. Here's the definition:
Intrathecal injection (often simply called 'intrathecal') is an injection into the spinal canal (intrathecal space surrounding the spinal cord), as in a spinal anaesthesia or in chemotherapy or pain management applications.
Well, I was in horrible pain and it all went away with this shot.. but when they broke my water, the meds wore off, so basically I had nothing. I need to decide if we want to sign up for an epidural but I am afraid it will be really painful. I still have a sore spot(almost 11 years later from the first spinal shot..
Any feedback on this would be AWESOME!hetibelle -

shirley I would much rather go into labour than have an induction...i had 2 inductions already....even when they were both a week late...there was never 1 single contraction, or never any show or mucus plug...these boys were never gonna come out....but this time I will be asking for an induction at 10 days early...cos I want to be at Xanders first day at school...and also the size thing...and also cos I@m worried what this anaethetist is going to say on monday....like...no you can't have a spinal or epidural...so it's gas or a general....I'll take the gas but let me go before the baby is over 9.7lb...FirstTimePreggersNJ -

Dani i have the same problem- I have to tell doctors about my high tolerance when I have medical treatments so they 'overmedicate' me.ann1333 -

most doctors in US won't induce unless medically necessary. Malpractice is big here- they are scared of their own shadows hereFirstTimePreggersNJ -

I am begging to be induced this time too. I dont like the unknown of going into labor naturall but my doc wont even discuss it until we need too.ann1333 -
15.3 hours ago
yeah, they do the catheter thing in the US too... don't want someone peeing in the process! plus they are big on monitors here, and once you are on those, you can't walk to the potty, so catheter it is.FirstTimePreggersNJ -
15.3 hours ago
he wont do anything..we discussed options...he said no c-section unless medically necessary and induced as needed either big baby or over a week late..he is a very conservative dr...and i asked every one of his partners too...LOLshirley and maya -

Heti> I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO nervous about the IV going on. I asked if I could get the epi without an IV and they said no. The IV just stung but didnt hurt, the epi was whatever and the catherder was nothing. I didnt even feel her doing it. We were tlaking the whole time about how much better I felt!shirley and maya -

Dani> ask your doc to be induced if you want to control labor - that way you know the date and time and the nurses monitor you from begining to end and give you updates so you will know exactly whats going on.hetibelle -
