Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 43 days until your due date on September 06, 2008.
You are 237 days pregnant.
You are 7.8 months pregnant.
You are in your 8th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: December 01, 2007 to February 29, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: March 01, 2008 to June 13, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: June 14, 2008 to September 06, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby weighs about 4.4 pounds at this point. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is approximately 12 inches and the total length is around 19.4 inches. Measuring from the top of your uterus to your bellybutton is 5.2 inches. Total weight gain at this point of pregnancy is usually 22 to 28 pounds.

With the exception of crying, your baby is capable of doing everything that a newborn baby will do. Your baby is restricted now inside of the uterus, but still can kick and move. Your baby sleeps a lot of the time, just as newborn babies do. Your baby's eyes move in the manner of REM sleep and researchers believe that babies can dream vividly in uterus. When your baby is awake, she is listening, feeling and learning. There are billions of neurons in the brain that make trillions of connections. Your baby will probably have settled into the birth position by now and your caregiver can most likely tell which way your baby is presenting. If your baby were to be born now, the lungs would probably be strong enough to function properly, but your baby may still need extra care from specially trained doctors and nurses.

During these last few weeks of pregnancy, most women experience an increased urge to urinate. The uterus puts a lot of pressure on the bladder and can send you to the restroom frequently. Your uterus has actually grown 500 times throughout your pregnancy! Red blood cell production catches up with the production of plasma and physiological anemia may begin to fade at this time.

Your baby's eyes open during alert times and close during sleep. The eye color is usually blue, regardless of the permanent color as pigmentation is not fully developed. The final formation of eye pigmentation requires exposure to light and usually happens a few weeks after birth.

I was thinking I will take my time get a little bit each week, like start with the most important stuff just in case and all the fiddly bits then after that... Hey as well what is lmao short for?

libbysmama - 2 hours ago
I haven't packed anything yet, either. 5 weeks is plenty of time, isn't it???

krissiehoran - 2.3 hours ago
omg I feel huge this eve :( The stuff for my heartburn is making me thirsty and the water is giving me heartburn, so I drink loads of water anyway and end up feeling full sick... ugh and god whats with the emotional rollercoaster today crying, happy then sad... jenniferbrown - 2.6 hours ago
mumsie26- I have never been the one to bleed a lot afterwards. I actually pretty much stopped bleeding the day I left the hospital with my son in 05. I hope I get this lucky again =)

christina1869 - 2.8 hours ago

libbysmama - 4.6 hours ago
My belly is feeling so big and heavy this week, and I've been very hungry, too! (By the way, is Crunch & Munch good for you? LOL) But when I eat, my belly feels even tighter, and it's hard to breathe! One of these days I'm going to be laying on my back and not be able to get up or roll over and I'll just be laying there like a turtle on it's back, flailing my arms and legs and yelling 'HELP!!!'

kytti - 4.7 hours ago
Well, I am off to week 34.. see some of you there soon. :)

shmylii - 6.7 hours ago
mumsie26- thanx, yeah i am woddling around a bit. Its funny as. Just a not with the blood loss. I'v had a son and with him. I didnt bleed a huge amount. it was just like a usual heavy period so the night pads/maternity pads where more then enough. It just lasted for like 3 weeks. but only was heavy for a week then regular for the rest. I also work with new babies and hear form their mums, and it seems its a bit different for all women. But usually is heavier then ur own normal period. So perhaps for those who usually have a heavy period then the extra precausion will def be good. Big Hugs to all! We've all made it this far Not too much longer to go. Mwah!!

tami02 - 7.1 hours ago
i hope it dont last that long really cant cope with it i dare not leave the house!!only 7 more weeks of pregnancy so hopefully back to normal soon thank you all x

jenarlington - 8.1 hours ago
YAY! Week 33! Only 7 more to go! This is our first baby and I'm wondering if anyone has experience introducing their baby to their Boxer babies and how they did it? I know that Boxers are one the best dogs that you can have around children, just curious as to how others have made the introduction ;) One of our girls is 3 and I have the feeling that she's going to be protective of the baby, the other is 10 months, so I have the feeling that she's going to want to be very playful. Both of them I'm sure are going to want to give the baby lots of Boxer affection, like only Boxers can ;)

mumsie26 - 8.7 hours ago
For those of you who are not aware but after you give birth you do bleed a lot and will need lots of pads(sanitary towels)when your in the hospital you should have large bed pads on the bed under you which protect the bed and soak it all up.(sorry tmi!!) if you are worried about protecting your beds at home you can get pampers bed mats these are good if homebirthing too.. also make sure you get breastpads even if not breastfeeding you will leak until your milk dries up.. get vaseline for baby as when the baby is newborn his poo (black stuff)sticks to his very delicate skin and is hard to remove, so if after changing the baby you put vaseline around the area it does make a difference.

mumsie26 - 9 hours ago
shmylii .. sounds like your waddling like a duck now.. not long now..its gettign closer...

mumsie26 - 9 hours ago
ah bless krissiehoran sounds like you may be closer than you relasie,, if you are losing your plug andhaving pains etc you need to keep an eye on it, and it is thick normally like jelly/mucas..lovely !!lol.. mind you don`t get infection too as this may be possible once mucas has come away

shmylii - 9.3 hours ago
woohoo. I just had a check up dr's appointment. And i found out i have an early c-section date. YAY! it was going to be my due date. but now its changed to a week earlier. I'm stoked! only 5 weeks and 3 days to go. Bub is already very very low down in my pelvis. Almost engaged. And its so difficult to get around at the moment. But its we have to enjoy what we can cause it'll all be over before we know it. Hugs to everyone!!

krissiehoran - 9.4 hours ago
yessss week 33... sorry some of you are having a hard time :( I am still off work cos of dizzzy and fainting spells but my iron count came back perfect so doc has suggested I wear support tights for a while! I think I am still losing some of my plug, you know its not runny or clear but thick and opaque mucous? Just a sign its getting closer the time I suppose... And the backache has started as have the abdominal cramps... I started crying this morning cos I was thinking of seeing my new baby while i was driving, I think anyone that saw me probably thought I was one of those mad emotional pregnant people :)

JackaMumma - 10.1 hours ago
tami02> I had a bug a few weeks ago that was same, it was like I had turned into a human urn (hot water from behind). It did last a week, I could barely eat during that time. I def agree with mumsie26 - keeping hydrated is the key, when I finally visited the doctor after 5 days of it, thats what they told me. I was gulping down water every half hour, but doc said its best to just sip it constantly, that way it has more chance to be absorbed into your system / rather than immediately flushed out. Re the swollen fingers and ankles, I'd call your doc just to be safe, as I think this can be a sign of pre-eclampsia - better safe than sorry. Hope you are feeling better soon.

mumsie26 - 10.8 hours ago
one thing that does help is keeping hydrated , as you cna get dehydrated easily and the waters are replaced every hour i think now? anwyay lots of water, juice helps..

tami02 - 11.6 hours ago
i really really dont want to ask this question but all the sites say the same thing about early labour signs, anyway here goes: i went to bed last night feeling sick (as u know im 33 weeks) and funny nosies were coming from my belly i couldnt get comfortable at all pains (like period pains and early labour pains) shot round my waist but werent on and off they stayed there this whole time, i got up to be sick and was sick loads then a watery diarrhea came out of me like a was having a wee a very long one! then i got back into bed still in crying pain i took some more trips to the loo and same happened again, still the next morning the same watery thing happened im worried and hop it clears soon please help me someone also ive got very swollen ankles and fingers my friend says its not normal to be as bad as they are, anyone help me????

jenniferbrown - 16 hours ago
I am SO over being pregnant!! I just want to see my baby =)

upchurchmomma - 19.7 hours ago
update: went to the doc this afternoon and asked about the colostrum/breast milk thing and he said it was normal no matter what color as long as it doesn't look like there are any signs of infection...so white, yellow, clear liquid at this point is fine! I have gained 9 lbs total yay, and he said that was fine too...i am so shocked, i gained 50 with my first 3 yrs ago! Umm...go back in 3 weeks for the group b strep test and then its just a matter of waiting after that lol. Hope everyone has a great night!!!

kytti - 20.2 hours ago
Aw man... I've been bumped to week 34 by the website, I won't leave you ladies until tomorrow though because technically that is when I change to week 34. :-) 6 more weeks.... S C A R Y. Anyone else feeling super scared about labor? For me it's just 'when and how is it going to happen?' Will I need to be induced? Will my water break in public? Will I need an emergency c-section??? LOL... I need a chill pill!

kytti - 21 hours ago
I heard a lot of 3D u/s pictures can come out more blurry after week 32 because your amniotic fluid gets lower. I drank 90+ ounces of water every day the month up until my 3D to make sure I had tons of extra fluid to get the pictures I did for mine.... that is what the lady told me to do, otherwise they can come out blurry.

lindseyloo - 21.1 hours ago
just put up new 3d 4d pics!!! can u check them out and let me know what u think. they look kinda blurry did any of yours come out this way?????

indiegurl - 21.4 hours ago
YAY! 33 weeks I feel like it's never end :( lol. And where is this nesting I hear so much about?? It must just be a myth. hah

mamastarr2 - 22.3 hours ago
i been having this shooting pain that feels like its going from under my belly button to my vaginal opening...its like a split second but really sharp, like i have to stop in my tracks....and then goes away...and it happens every so often but nothing regular....my friend said it could be my cervix stretching...what do you girls think?

mumsie26 - 22.7 hours ago
just found this too... Contractions Is it Braxton Hicks or True Labor? http://baby2see.com/contractions.html

mumsie26 - 22.8 hours ago
THIS IS LONG BUT THINK IT WILL HELP SOME OF YOU.. Pre-Labor: Signs that Labor is About to Begin Possible Signs Labor May Begin Soon. · Backache: Not the type of backache you have in late pregnancy that changes when you shift position, but a persistent dull ache that makes you restless and irritable. · Cramps. Abdominal cramping that is mild to moderate in discomfort. · PMS symptoms: crabby, irritable. · Nesting Urge. · Frequent, soft bowel movements. Flu-like symptoms. If you experience these symptoms, it is important to remember that they are not necessarily signs that labor is imminent. They may persist for days or weeks before labor begins. The presence of these symptoms is a good reminder to make sure you have everything prepared for labor and birth, and to make sure you are aware of what other signs to be watching for. However, try not to get too excited about things, or start making too many plans assuming the baby is on its way. Continue your normal routines, get lots of rest, eat and drink well, nurture yourself in these precious days before the baby arrives. Preliminary Signs · Bloody show. During pregnancy, cervix contains mucus, which may be released in late pregnancy. May be a thick ‘plug’ of pinkish mucus, which might come out when you use the toilet. May be thin, mucousy discharge on toilet paper. If there is more blood than mucus, call caregiver. (Note, it’s common to have a brownish, bloody discharge within 24 hours of a vaginal exam, or intercourse. Don’t mistake this for bloody show.) · Water breaks: o Trickle or a gush. If it’s just a little mucousy fluid, it may be mucous plug. o Pay attention to what time it breaks, note down its color, odor, etc. o Call your caregiver. Usually (80% of the time), you will go into labor on your own in the next 24 hours. Ask your caregiver what will happen if you are not in labor after 24 hours. · Contractions. What’s the difference between non-progressing Braxton-Hicks contractions (“false labor” / pre-labor) and the progressive contractions of active labor? o Pre-labor contractions generally don’t progress: they may be irregular, or may stay same length, strength, and frequency. May last for a short time, or for several hours. Discomfort is felt in the front of the abdomen, as muscles tighten up. Contractions may stop if you walk, change position or change activity, eat, drink, or empty bladder. o Some women never have Braxton-Hicks, some may have for weeks before the labor. Some may even have several episodes where contractions seem to be developing a pattern: with contractions every 6-7 minutes for 2-3 hours, which then stop again. o ‘False Labor’ doesn’t mean they don’t hurt, and it also doesn’t mean that they’re not doing anything. Although the contractions might not be dilating your cervix yet, they are helping you to progress in other ways: moving the cervix to an anterior position, ripening and effacing the cervix. Positive Signs of Labor · Gush of amniotic fluid from vagina. · Progressing contractions: Get longer, stronger, and/or closer together with time. Are usually described as ‘very strong’ or ‘painful’, felt in the abdomen, back, or both. May start in the back, and radiate around to front. Usually increase if you walk. · Dilation of cervix seen in vaginal exam.

hi there ladies just found this info and thought it may help some of you.. http://www.transitiontoparenthood.com/ttp/birthed/prelabor.htm

mumsie26 - 22.9 hours ago
Breastmilk leaking has been white when i leaked after getting out of shower/bath and when i had expresseed it when baby newborn it was yellowish so i`d say its normal and not to worry..

mumsie26 - 22.9 hours ago
hi there halambert - this is normal and does happen near the end i think you can also have colour like purple, haven`t looked down there but i am swollen too , i guess there are more replies to come..

kzbaby - 23.3 hours ago
upchurchmomma: I am glad you asked. My boobs starting leaking a couple days ago but it is more of a creamy yellow color!! I thought that was normal!! What is is supposed to look like... Thank goodness I have a doctors appt tomorrow. I am going to ask!

upchurchmomma - 1 days ago
Ok quick question. I just got out of the shower and noticed my boobs leaking a bit. My thing is, my left breast had white liquid and my right had clear(colostrum). I have had one child, and don't remember colostrum being white...could it be milk already? Also, with my first, my breasts hurt really bad when my milk came in so i am just wondering if any of you have experienced white liquidy colostrum instead of just clear? Any comments will be greatly appriciated, thanks in advance! Have a great day!

cmmbear - 1 days ago
I'm sure I'm not the only one that is having the awful pain in my hips, have any of you been told what to do to help stop it? It gets so bad sometimes at night that it wakes me up. Our teacher for our childbirth class advised trying to sleep in a recliner or on the couch but I've tried that and it still bothers me. Also there was one lady that posted something about her Dr telling her that when you start having that pain it can mean that you're thinning and dialating...or something like that. Any suggestions for ways to ease it though? I'm going to ask my Dr. about it Monday and see what he says and then probably talk to our teacher some more about it also.

halambert - 1 days ago
Okay, this maybe TMI, but I have a question. Since I have actually been 'showing' (my preggo belly) the lips of my va-jay-jay have gotten fatter. My husband has even noticed. Anyone else know what I mean or have the same issue?

amzweifel - 1 days ago
Mmmm...chocolate pudding, why didn't I discover you earlier in the pregnancy?

kristam - 1 days ago
Not sure if any of you are allergic or not! But I would double check latex products as well. I have an allergy to latex! I can not even tie balloons for my children with out my fingers swelling...lol.

kristam - 1 days ago
Ladies just to let some of you know it is not just the bottles to be concerned about, with the BPA it is also pacifiers, sippy cups, etc! I bought Nuk's by Gerber both bottles and pacifiers are bpa free! Sometimes it also says on packages that they are BPA free! Good luck!

suzetter - 1 days ago
Okay ladies I'm curious, I have read a few of the FAQ's on BPA and they all say its still safe according the FDA I'm just curious what the affects are from it because I dont want to harm my baby but I cant seem to find a site that gives me good/informative information... can anyone help?

kristam - 1 days ago
They just increased my brethine again... Yuck! They really want me to hold this baby in there for another couple of weeks. I am also having loose stool and vomiting, and no fever. I looked it up on here and there is a thing called pre labor flu like symptoms. It can last for days, or weeks before you go into labor. It could also be a bug! They make things so confusing don't they. I have never had this with any of my other pregnancies. The baby is bearing down very hard, which the mid wife noted yesterday. I woke up this morning and she is even lower, and I am having horrible pelvic pain... Good luck ladies!

mumsie26 - 1 days ago
hi BRITTLOVESMATT hi there a lot of us womena re getting these period type pains and are not sure if serious or not.. some women from what i see in reasearching it say its bh contractions others say pre lbour, i don`t know if that means labour within days, weeks or what? another woman on here said that her doc said to keep an eye onthem to see if they get worse so its hard to know, i am asking my mw 2moro as in all my other pregnancies i never had them

mctreaties - 1 days ago
Hi ladies just got back from the docs...i have been having real bad rib pain and the doc was feeling around (i could have died lol)so i have to go for and u/s in a few hours they think it might be gallstones or a tumor i guess 50% of prego woman get these nothing to worry about they just give you pain meds, and they did that to thank god....but if anyone is having real bad rib pain i would bring it up and see what your docs can do about it.....just thought i would give all you ladies a heads up cause i thought it might have just been the way the baby was hanging out lol.....
