This week your baby's length, from crown-to-rump, is approximately 8 inches! Your growing baby has finally reached one pound. Your baby is about the size of a small baby doll and looks very human. The baby's face and body look similar to that of a newborn at this time. Your uterus can be found about 1.5 inches above your navel. Your total weight gain should be approximately 15 pounds at this time.
You might notice some Braxton-Hicks contractions around this time. These contractions are not regular and they should not be painful. Braxton-Hicks contractions prepare your body for the upcoming labor and they will get stronger as your pregnancy progresses. You might be able to feel the contractions if you put your hand on your abdomen and your baby can probably feel the uterus gripping and massaging her. It will not harm your baby, so there is no need for concern.
Fat is still being deposited at a rapid rate, but your baby still looks red and wrinkled. Skin is being produced at a higher rate than the fat is, so the skin hangs loosely. Your baby looks red because the skin is losing its transparency and pigment is beginning to form. You should be feeling your baby moving quite a bit throughout the day as she will kick and punch the uterus walls. Babies also run their hands along the umbilical cord and touch their body parts while they are in the womb.
Your baby now can suck her thumb for real, where she was just sticking it in her mouth. Your baby will continue to swallow amniotic fluid and recycle it as urine. The liquids and sugars that the baby retracts from the fluid is a supplement to the nutrients that the placenta delivers. You might be able to feel small `jumps` inside of you when your baby gets the hiccups from swallowing fluid. The pancreas is developing and it will responsible for insulin production, to help break down sugars.
Oily fish in your diet could help boost your baby's health. (Women who eat oily fish while pregnant have children with better visual development, a major study at Bristol University suggests.)
As the baby continues to grow, it has less space to move around in the uterus. Bones, muscles and organs are growing steadily.

Hey everyone! I am 23 wks and 1 day. I just had a question if anyone can answer that'd be wonderful. I didn't have any morning sickness throughout this whole pregnancy except for a few times I felt kinda queesy, but nothing major. Anyway, tonight I felt horrible and was just waiting to throw up, which def. happened. Anyway, I'm still feeling kinda sick, but I was just wondering if it's possible to start getting sick NOW if you haven't been before.. or would it just be something I ate or something?? hi there everyone. eeeeeeeeee... i book into the hospital today. Cant wait. they take u through the maternity ward and sign some papers etc. I'm so excited. cause its one more step closer to the bub being born. Not that it'll be anytime soon. but it makes it that little bit more real. Hugs to All!! Anyone having painful braxton hicks yet? I'v been starting to get them. I didnt get any with my first son. but now these ones are painful. like really bad period pain. but comes and goes. only every now and then. halambert - Good question, I was wondering same myself (want to tell work no more travel from now on!! They actually wanted to send me from Australia to India to do a pitch). I just did a bit of research on flying. Apparently for each international flight (where plan rises above 10,000 metres), you and baby are exposed to same amount of radiation as if you had a full body Xray. The advice seems to be avoid it if you can in T1 and T3, 2nd trimester seems to be best time. If you do do it, apparently its good to take an aisle / middle seat to decrease exposure (through windows), and you can cover your tummy with epsom salts (??? dont know what that is / where to get it). newmommy16 - I had the same problem with my hubby during my first pregnancy, I think some men get really scared & overwhelmed by the idea of all the new responsibility looming. However, after my daughter was born, he could not have been more excited and he is a wonderful father. Now that Im pregnant the 2nd time around he is way more relaxed. But I have cut out my hot chocolate while working through the boxes. Last day in week 23...has anyone else's constipation gotten worse recently? I've used Benefiber three times a day (ok'd by my doctor) since the start of the second trimester and it seemed to do the trick but the past week or so? Not so much. Soooo uncomfortable...redheadmom -

Hi, I'm from week 29 and my urine keeps showing up with protien in it. I know this is a sign of preeclamsia/Toxema, but my blood pressure is excellent and my blood sugar is great too. I have to do a 24 hour urine test on Thursday and the Dr said he should have an idea of whats going on with my kidneys by early next week. He said I may need to see a specialist. Only thing he told me was that my kidneys may not be functioning properly. This worrys me. If anybody experienced this before or knows of anybody who has please let me know. Thanks.kytti -

I've been super crampy lately.. I think because I am stretching out again. Ugh, it is very uncomfortable and I have been having those sciatic nerve issues in my back, under my ribcage, on either side and it is acting up again. Cry. 23 weeks 3 days today!! I am feeling bubs move heaps now!! I am also getting reflux after I eat certain things, and I have been getting bad cramps in my calf at night. aftinjoy- I also have an anterior placenta.
