This week your baby's length, from crown-to-rump, is approximately 8 inches! Your growing baby has finally reached one pound. Your baby is about the size of a small baby doll and looks very human. The baby's face and body look similar to that of a newborn at this time. Your uterus can be found about 1.5 inches above your navel. Your total weight gain should be approximately 15 pounds at this time.
You might notice some Braxton-Hicks contractions around this time. These contractions are not regular and they should not be painful. Braxton-Hicks contractions prepare your body for the upcoming labor and they will get stronger as your pregnancy progresses. You might be able to feel the contractions if you put your hand on your abdomen and your baby can probably feel the uterus gripping and massaging her. It will not harm your baby, so there is no need for concern.
Fat is still being deposited at a rapid rate, but your baby still looks red and wrinkled. Skin is being produced at a higher rate than the fat is, so the skin hangs loosely. Your baby looks red because the skin is losing its transparency and pigment is beginning to form. You should be feeling your baby moving quite a bit throughout the day as she will kick and punch the uterus walls. Babies also run their hands along the umbilical cord and touch their body parts while they are in the womb.
Your baby now can suck her thumb for real, where she was just sticking it in her mouth. Your baby will continue to swallow amniotic fluid and recycle it as urine. The liquids and sugars that the baby retracts from the fluid is a supplement to the nutrients that the placenta delivers. You might be able to feel small `jumps` inside of you when your baby gets the hiccups from swallowing fluid. The pancreas is developing and it will responsible for insulin production, to help break down sugars.
Oily fish in your diet could help boost your baby's health. (Women who eat oily fish while pregnant have children with better visual development, a major study at Bristol University suggests.)
As the baby continues to grow, it has less space to move around in the uterus. Bones, muscles and organs are growing steadily.

Okay, who else is having their arms/hands fall asleep from sleeping on our sides?? I can't help it but there are times when I will wake up on my right side and I feel so guilty. My DH wakes me up when I'm on my back snoring, lol 'Stop sawing logs' he says. Our little girl is so active, she kicks the heck out of me and I can see her moving, crazy !! So far my issues this month is heart burn, sleeping position, swelling my in my feet, sore back and craving Dairy Queen lol.

Sleeping on the left side also helps blood circulation for yourself especially your kidneys. Also helps with the back and hips if you have a cushion in between your knees. If you lay on your back it puts pressure on 2 major arteries from your heart. Wow I think i've done too much research lol.Ashley211 -

Week 24 tomarrow!!! I missed week 23, I have had plantar fasciitis....a messed up ligament in my foot. I have been in sooo much pain, it has been a week ago today since it happened. I am feeling a little better though. Tomarrow is my Laney's 3rd birthday so i am crutching around the house trying to help my husband clean as much as possible lol. Anyway, pregnancy is going well, i will be anxious to see how much i've gained on the 27th, don't feel like i have gained much gotta go clean some more u guys have a good day!kar -

halambert - OMG I had the same thing for a while. I really find that the pregnancy pillow helps. I have the big double one (its like a big U shape) it supports me from the front and back so I dont have to have all the pressure on one shoulder. It was so painful before, I once cried all night and couldnt sleep. Also, a warm bath really helps ( not hot though)amzweifel -

I take my lunch at work and I go home and start cleaning, I get off work and I start cleaning, I am afraid pretty soon I won't have anything to clean, then I remember that I have a 2 year old and a husband that I have to clean up after... Hi girls, well today I'm sooooo tired and trying to get on my foot to start cleaning the house and etc. I'm so sleepy and tired...and don't undertand why...but well the guys are kicking like crazy and I'm having a hard time with cravings. the last one...pineapple with salt....green sour olives...raisins and can't stand juice....water only! yesterday i posted that i had been kind of crampy with small braxton hicks contractions. well it didnt get better so i called my doc and she told me to go ahead and go to labor & delivery. so, after sitting there with all the monitors hooked up for 4 hours they only registered 2 large contractions and some tiny ones too. they checked me and i am already dialated to 1! but they sent me home and told me to just take it easy the next couple of days until i see my doc on monday. i might have to keep my legs crossed for the next 15 weeks so this baby doesnt slip out!1sttimemam -

Hey everyone! I am 23 wks and 1 day. I just had a question if anyone can answer that'd be wonderful. I didn't have any morning sickness throughout this whole pregnancy except for a few times I felt kinda queesy, but nothing major. Anyway, tonight I felt horrible and was just waiting to throw up, which def. happened. Anyway, I'm still feeling kinda sick, but I was just wondering if it's possible to start getting sick NOW if you haven't been before.. or would it just be something I ate or something?? hi there everyone. eeeeeeeeee... i book into the hospital today. Cant wait. they take u through the maternity ward and sign some papers etc. I'm so excited. cause its one more step closer to the bub being born. Not that it'll be anytime soon. but it makes it that little bit more real. Hugs to All!! Anyone having painful braxton hicks yet? I'v been starting to get them. I didnt get any with my first son. but now these ones are painful. like really bad period pain. but comes and goes. only every now and then. halambert - Good question, I was wondering same myself (want to tell work no more travel from now on!! They actually wanted to send me from Australia to India to do a pitch). I just did a bit of research on flying. Apparently for each international flight (where plan rises above 10,000 metres), you and baby are exposed to same amount of radiation as if you had a full body Xray. The advice seems to be avoid it if you can in T1 and T3, 2nd trimester seems to be best time. If you do do it, apparently its good to take an aisle / middle seat to decrease exposure (through windows), and you can cover your tummy with epsom salts (??? dont know what that is / where to get it). newmommy16 - I had the same problem with my hubby during my first pregnancy, I think some men get really scared & overwhelmed by the idea of all the new responsibility looming. However, after my daughter was born, he could not have been more excited and he is a wonderful father. Now that Im pregnant the 2nd time around he is way more relaxed.
