Hi. I'm in week 21, but I thought that I would come here to ask if any of you had delivered without the epidural but did use a narcotic alternative? I can't do the epidural, so this appears to be the only other option... other than natural, but I'm not big on pain on purpose. Please tell me what that experience is like. Thanks.pooshiousboo17 -

hello y'all Ijust had my little angel and he weighed 8 lbs even and I had him on the 22nd of september. It sucks though becuase i had to get a C-Section because the baby had swallowed some of his own poo poo and My bloos pressure kept going high so they made me get one. He is so precious, he looks just like his daddy and that makes me look like i didn't even have nothing to do with making the baby.destinyz-own -

Okay- this is a bizarre question, so bear with me. I am lucky enough to have been loaned a fetal heart doppler from a doctor's office (one they usually use) until my baby's born. This has been so nice since my previous pregnancy resulted in miscarriage. Anyway, about 6 weeks ago (I was about 16 weeks pregnant) I began hearing a very strange noise in the doppler. It must have something to do with my heart beat because the timing is the same as my heart beat, but it has tone and pitch to it! It sounds like someone is in there moaning to the beat of my heartbeat! (I know that it's not possible for the baby to be in there moaning- I'm just trying to describe the sound). I told my dad about it (he's an OBGYN) and he said that the doppler batter could be low and it was probably some defect in the equipment. Then, I went in for my 16 week check up and the nurse practitioner used their doppler and heard the same thing. She commented that it was the weirdest thing she'd ever heard, but didn't dwell on it. She just kept moving it around in search for the baby's heart beat. And you don't hear it the whole time- it's only in a certain place- so after she moved the doppler wand she didn't hear it anymore, and I don't think she thought much else about it. Well, I didn't concern myself with it until last night, my husband decided that he'd like to put his ear to my belly to see if he could hear the baby moving around at all and immediately he got a frightened look on his face. He could hear that strange sound through my belly without the doppler!!! I'm trying not to concern myself too much, but I am feeling a little worried! Over the course of our 10 years together, my husband has laid his head on my belly many times and has never noticed this sound before, so it has to be either a recent thing or pregnancy-related. I called my dad, and used the doppler over the phone so that he could hear what I was hearing, and he was dumbfounded. But, he told me to wait a couple of weeks until my next appointment and to ask the doctor if he could try to figure out what it was. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what it is?!?! I'm afraid I have some sort of heart defect!!! I am trying to make myself feel better by telling myself that it's probably the sound of the blood pulsing through the umbilical cord since I've been told that the placenta is on the front of my uterus. . . but if that was the case, wouldn't my dad be familiar with the sound after 30 years of practicing? You'd think SOMEONE else would have had it!?! Please help!

From one sleep deprived mom to many others-cherish these days and yet look forward...your baby will be so soft and sweet and those toes! And that baby's breath! I am so tired and yet want to cuddle with him all night after nursings. I am excited for you all not to be pregnant anymore and yet I know I probably never will be again, so I always wish I'd cherished more. Although it is so nice to hold that bundle. Simplify your lives as much as you can and get ready to enjoy. In just 6 weeks ish he/she will be smiling very happily at YOU! Good night for now...mimi2b -

Hey guys- I was reading in one of my pregnancy books about how I should make out a will to name a guardian before the baby is born in case something happens to my husband and me. I also have it on my to-do list to find out when I'm supposed to add the baby to our health insurance plan. Does anyone know of a website that has a really good, thorough to-do list for pregnancy which includes everything from registering to making out a will? I don't want to miss anything!

My uncle and his wife just had their baby last tuesday. They had a home birth with a midwife. She didnt have a reg doctor other than her midwife and only had 1 ultrasound the entire time. Long story short, the midwife took her sweet time showing up and almost missed the delivery. She barely had enough time to put her gloves on before the baby slipped out. My uncles wife had tried to hold the baby in for about an hour keeping her legs closed tight cause the midwife was not there. Well, when the baby was born, his head was extra squished and I was not there but my sister who was said that it took about 20 minutes for the baby to gain any color...he was completely blue. Scary. We all noticed that same day that something was not right. He was born with mole like bumps on the side of his head bby his ears. Both sides. They arent dark like moles, they are the same color of his skin but they are there. We assumed it was just a cosmetic thing, no big deal. Then we noticed he couldnt open one eye and it looked swollen but at the same time, sunken in. They took him to the Doc the next day and they didnt say much about it. They took him again on thursday and the doc tried to open the eye and mentioned that theres a possibility that he wont see from one eye and that the bumps on the sides of his face might be related. Thats all they say. We are concerned because we have tried to open his eye as gentle as we can, and cannot. The little bit that we can open and see, we dont see an eyeball. The eyelid clearly lays flat unlike the other round eye. Has anyone ever see anything like this? We are looking for an eye specialist to look at him but my uncle and his wife dont have insurance and its a bit hard for them. If anyone knows anything about this, let me know. jazmenflowers -

Finally gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL and healthy baby boy on July 31st. I was induced that morning at 9:30am, broke my water at 10:15am, dilated to 10 at 5:30pm, started pushing at 6:00pm...pushed until 11:15pm until they finally decided to do an emergency C-Section. He was born at 11:34pm. He was crowning for 2 hours. I had an epidural until i started pushing. So i pushed for 4 1/2 hours with nothing =( It sucked. But it was worth it. Everyone still waiting for their babies...GET YOUR SLEEP NOW!!!!brookeamber -

I have a question about something I'm curious about- My sister-in-law believes in the theory that if you chart your basal temp. when trying to conceive and only have sex right before you ovulate, you're more likely to have a boy. The thoughts behind this theory are that the 'boy' sperm swim faster but die earlier and that if you have sex right before you ovulate, they are the only sperm that have a chance to make it to the egg. If you wanted a girl, you would have sex 3 or 4 days before ovulation and then stop- hoping that the 'boy' sperm would have died off by the time the egg is 'ripe.' I personally don't buy into this but she said she had a friend that tried it after having 3 girls, and ended up pregnant with a boy. I personally feel like it's 50/50 and she may have been 'due' for a boy. I actually did the temperature charting to get pregnant, but to be completely honest, it was only so that we would know when we could stop having sex :) We would start trying a week before I normally ovulated and we would do the baby dance every single day until a day or two after I ovulated. . . which can actually get a little tiring/monotonous, so we both kind of wanted to know when it was 'safe to take a break.' My sister-in-law knows that we were temp. charting, and she knows i was kind of hoping for a boy (which it turns out I am pregnant with) and she is convinced that this method works and that we used it. That doesn't bother me; she can think what she wants. . . I'm just curious if there really is any truth to it. I'm going to put a poll on my profile- for those of you that charted with the specific purpose of having a certain gender, please vote to let me know whether or not you were successful in your endeavor :) I'm curious about this.

Ladies I have a question. My anticipated due date is November 2. (I'm 25 weeks 1 day) At my doctor appointment, I'm measuring only 24 cm. (You are supposed to measure the same # as you are pregnant) If the baby gets bigger a cm a week up to 40 weeks that would put me at November 10. Has your baby measured smaller and caused you to pass your due date? Please post on my pagesandj -

My precious angel, Alysha Kellie, was born on July 16th. Will post my birth story on my page soon, but here's a brief overview. Went in for induction early Wednesday, having had contractions overnight. Was 2cm dilated, but not in proper labour. They broke my waters (they were tough, so they had to use the 'aligator claw', which actually pulled some of Alysha's hair from her head - poor thing!!) Then they put me on Syntocinon (think that's the equivalent of Pitocin). As I have had 3 babies previously, this got things moving VERY quickly, and I didn't even need a high dose. Alysha was born 3 hours and 20 minutes later. I actually went from 4cm dilated to delivering her within 45 minutes! I pushed her out in 2 pushes. It was amazing. Even though I was induced, it was still a very natural feeling labour, and also my fastest and easiest. Oh, and she WAS big as expected. She weighed 4.32kg (9lb 8 1/2 oz), and was 54cm long (21 inches). I fall more in love with her every day. Feeding is a challenge as always, but she is doing brilliantly so far.kristalsfirst -

Hi everyone, i would have been in week 42 today BUT finally gave birth Friday night 11:47 pm. Wow it was hard but now I feel great (well mentally not physically yet!) It turned out to be a baby girl: Ainsley Katherine Gray, 7lbs 1/2 oz. I will post photos and a birth story soon, the natural water birth I hoped for didn't happen in the end, wow I must've been through every possible birthing position in the book. Anyways I am home from hospital now and so begins the really complicated stuff!
