Dates and numbers:
There are 16 days until your due date on October 29, 2008.
You are 264 days pregnant.
You are 8.7 months pregnant.
You are in your 9th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: January 23, 2008 to April 22, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: April 23, 2008 to August 05, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: August 06, 2008 to October 29, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
You are considered full-term now and your baby's final touches are being made. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is now 14 inches and the total length is around 21 inches. Your baby weighs approximately 6.5 pounds. Your uterus may be measuring about the same as it has been and is probably about 6.5 inches from the top of your bellybutton.
This week your baby should engage into your pelvis. If this is not your first pregnancy, it may happen later. When your baby engages, his head drops down into your pelvis and you might feel a slight sensation called `lightening` as the pressure on your ribs eases. As your baby drops into the final position for delivery, you may experience a buzzing feeling and shooting pains in your groin and leg. Normally, you will be able to breathe and eat easier. However, your uterus pushes down harder on your bladder and you will have an increased urge to urinate more frequently. Even if your baby engages now, you still possibly feel his feet in your breastbone around week 40.
Your baby is now fully mature and ready to be born. However, your baby is still growing and developing every day. Fat is still being laid down at a rate of a half ounce a day. If this is your first pregnancy, you can expect to deliver closer to 40 weeks or shortly thereafter. If this is not your first baby, you might go earlier than 40 weeks! Make sure that your bags are packed for the hospital and remember to preregister for admission.
Your doctor may begin doing weekly pelvic exams to evaluate your cervical changes and progression. Your healthcare provider will make sure that you are not leaking amniotic fluid and will also examine your cervix to check for effacement and dilation. Before labor, your cervix is thick and 0% effaced. During labor your cervix thins out and right before delivery it will become very soft and 100% effaced.
Research shows your baby can be affected by stress hormones. Make time to relax, to have fun, and to rest.
Your baby has learned to coordinate sucking, swallowing and breathing so it can do all three when
breastfeeding after birth. Babies practice shallow breathing before birth, using amniotic fluid.
Almost there! Did you know that we also have a month by month calendar for babies? You can find it in the menu under `Babies`:

Hi ladies. I'm in week 37 now!! Had some light 'cramping' off and on today but it stopped ealier. Sleep has been spiratic... and I'm becoming more and more impatient/anxious about the arrival of our Wee One.
Working on the hospital bags, the babies is ready to go, tomorrow I'll finish packing mine.
Lots of nesting going on, and trying to make myself feel a little more attractive by straightening my hair ect. We have dinner tomorrow with family for turkey day so I get to be a little dressed up, hopefully that'll help! And to all the Canadians, Happy Thanksgiving weekend! kaycie1 -

i would love to have sex in the missionary position..lol. its hard for us to do it anyway, and that has always been our favortie, well its not exactly missionary, but kind of... but i cant do it bc of the belly, we dont have sex but maybe once a month or so once i get like 5 months pregnnt, so i am actuallyu kind of used to not getting any right now. when i am not preggo we do it all the time.... but i know when i am pregannt i aint getting any. its too uncomfortable for him and me , so we just dont do it. and actuallhy its him more than me that doesnt want it.rain13 -

tinak23 don't feel bad I'm exactly the same way. I can't turn over for nothing after I've been laying for awhile. It hurts like super bad and I can hardly walk.Im always asking my husband to press on my hip while I'm laying on my right side. It kinda feels like if they crack they'll feel better but they still don't. And for some reason I wake up every day at 4am and then around 9 and I cant get back to sleep. Im sure I've had contractions but I cant really be sure. But nothing significant.Oh well I guess when its time its time.verizonchic -

Hello ladies :) For those of you who need to know your not alone, trust me I am right there with you!!! I have been having moderate contraxtions everyday for like 1 1/2 weeks now, I am so miserable! I hurt so much down in my groin and it feels like the bottom will fall out of my belly when I walk!! So many complaints trust me, you are NOT alone. I am just trying to keep my mind on the prize, won't be long now! I find that having a nice hot tea or hot chocolate helps, and I try to have a nice warm bubble bath before I go to bed, just helps to relax me a bit so I can fall asleep a bit easier. Anyway girls, we are all going through the same thing at this point I am sure, but within weeks we will have our little ones and forget all this grief LOLGem -

warsaw1~ it was a challenge b/c i/ve gotten so big....what i found that works is to have lots of pillows supporting my head & neck. Lay towards the end of the bed and put feet on two chairs. My husband is standing on the floor between the chairs. It's the only way that works for us! :) warsaw1 -

My bf gets on my frickin nerves..If i ask him to get me something i'm craving; and we're talking about small things here & nothing out of the way; he almost always has an excuse.Sometimes it's re:whether it's healthy or not, other times he says fine but i never get it.I wonder if it's a matter of him being cheap.I mean i barely have a d%$ apettite & have barely gained 25 lbs. What is the big deal.Example, i just asked him to buy me an iced tea & he is telling me he will make me some.I want it now. I don't want to wait for it to be boiled. And i am not a demanding preggo.Sorry just had to vent..britteybaby -

I just read about free birthing, and I'll have to say it is a bit frightening. Like was said earlier, to each their own, but first off, my husband would never deliver our baby lol (he's practically afraid at the site of jello he he), and second, I just want to make sure I have trained professioanls there in case something goes wrong. I had my son naturally (not by choice lol), but have made the decision to have my daughter completely naturally, with a doula present (and of course my doc and nurse. We don't get midwives out here at the Naval hospital). I figure if I did it once, I can do it again...but with a lot of help from my hubby and the trained ladies around me :) mrs-b83 -

amypasinski~~I think the reason I am so ready to have this baby girl is because I am terrified of my last bit being like it was with my son. I was having such bad heart palpetations and feelings of suffication that I had to have an EKG (which revealed a minor, pre-existing heart condition). I know she'll come when she's ready, I just don't want to be in bad shape when she gets here.mrs-b83 -

I think we all need to just relax - lol! All of our babies will come when they are ready. What's the point of trying to force em out? They know exactly when they are ready! It'll be here before we know it! Good luck to all of you on the big day! DanielleS -

I'm all for natural birth, but to do it without any assitance or safety net seems like a huge risk; one I'm not willing to take. Yes, our bodies are designed to do this. And yes, women and babies died in childbirth a lot more often back before there were interventions and labor support. Maybe if I'd done it before, I'd be more comfortable. But I think it's possible to have a completely natural birth without taking the extra risk.bellasmommy -

this whole free birth thing seems scary to me...it seems like there is so much that can go wrong- i can understand midwives and birthing centers- but to do it yourself? too many risks for me..samantha112 -

People thinking about eating pineapple to give things a hand I wouldn't bother. The enzyme that sets things off IS present in a fresh pineapple BUT you have to eat EIGHT fruits for it to have any effect. That is gonna give you serious mouth ulcers!melissawells -

We are planning an all natural birth, but to do it on my own....NO WAY! We are using midwives and having our baby at a birthing center doing a water birth with no medical intervintions. We have the option of being transfered to the hospital, but thats the last resort. I couldn't imagine doing it on my own by myself even if this isn't my first child....But like Danielle said, to each their own. DanielleS -

MrsB83 - I so know how you feel. I ate a whole pineapple the other day and by the time I took my final bites, I thought my morning sickness was coming back! I barely got it down! I know not to do that again. I think I will pase it out and eat one throughout the day, not in one sitting!melissawells -
