By this week of pregnancy your baby's crown-to-rump length reaches about 13.5 inches and the total length is approximately 20.7 inches. Your baby weighs about 6 pounds now. The top of your uterus has moved further up under your ribs and is about 5.5 inches above your bellybutton. Your uterus has grown a lot in the past few weeks as your baby has gained weight. You may have gained about 30 pounds by now and it is common for your weight to stay about the same from this point onwards.

Because the top of the uterus is high as it will be, breathing may be getting very uncomfortable at times. You might notice jabbing pains from your baby's kicks. However, within the next few weeks, your baby will drop into the birth canal and this will make breathing easier again. Most doctors like to see their patients weekly from now on to check for labor progression. Your prenatal classes are probably coming to an end and you should have already made a birth plan and discussed available options for pain control during pregnancy.

Your baby's face has filled out significantly and looks smooth and plump. Because your baby has powerful sucking muscles and has had layers of fat forming for quite some time now, the cheeks have filled out like a newborn's. Your baby's skull is firm, but not hard. Every baby's head has the ability to give slightly so that there is room for her to fit down the birth canal during delivery. Some babies are born with cone shaped heads from the pressure of delivery, but this will go away after delivery. The amount of amniotic fluid is at its maximum amount now and your baby may not be moving as much as she had been. As long as you still feel her movements every day, there should be no cause for concern.

The placenta is now one-sixth of the fetal weight.

I just came home from the doctor, and she told me that I am 1.5cm dialated and 75% effaced. Someone told me that this means that I will probably go early, but someone else told me that it means nothing and that I will still carry to my due date or even longer. This is my first baby so I am totally clueless! Help!

My baby girl is going to be Addison Grace..The way I came up with it is I use to really like the name Madison, but then my cousin named her daughter that..so one day I dropped the M and thought to myself 'what about Addison' and I instantly fell in love with it and it stuck with me. When we found out we were having a girl my husband wanted to discuss other names but I kept going back to Addison and eventually he finally agreed and said 'Yes it is a beautiful name, we can use it.' Grace just came naturally to me for a middle name because of its meaning, and I thought it sounded beautiful together..

Son of a GUN! I just posted a comment about how I was frustrated with the hubby sleeping after being home for 1.5hrs and it's not there! I'll make it shorter. They got done with the job yest at 6pm, went to a hotel, woke up at 10am this morning and drove home. Me? I got like neg 5hrs of sleep lasnight due to pain, hemmroids, rls, and our son waking up at 6 something...grrr. I wish I was atleast awake and had energy.

ok so my doc said that If I could hold out (been having contractions for a month) till I was 36 weeks that baby would be fine and if I went into labor they wouldnt stop it and all that...So im in a lot of pain and only sleeping two hours a night. I had a hard time dialating wi8th my first son so I know thats whats happening now. I think Im gunna try the castor oil. She said within a week if I wanted to try some home remedies i could. Ive been walking but to no avail, nothing. So Im gunna take a teaspoon of castor oil after I talk to my hubby. Let ya know how it goes.

counter-I LOVE the name Carson!! It was really hard for us to pick a boy name since our last name is carr. I have always loved Parker Race but NOT with the last name CARR! counterfit and tristan, those are BOTH super cute name stories. tristan, you crack me up... DEAR SANTA... lol... well we came up with Hunter the same day we found out we were having a boy. we never could think of any boy names but that day we were driving to lunch to celebrate and my hubbs was saying how cool it was going to be to have a boy and he could be his little hunter (hunting buddy)... and that's how it happened. we both looked at each other and thought that would make a really cute name and seemed to fit us both so we imagine it has to fit him. we loved the name and it's a shocker that we actually came to an agreement on anything, let alone our childs name!

How did everyone decide on their baby's name? My boyfriend and I thought I'd have a girl and his mom said we should name 'her' after a town in massachusetts since that is where they were from. So I had agreed and we considered the name chelsea and madison after counties in massachusetts. Then came our u/s for the sex and it was a boy! And since my family is from nevada I thought of places in nevada and we decided on carson after carson city.

Ladies let me tell you a story about castor, please do not take it, i know your tired of being pregrant, but don't go to extreme measures. My friend's daughter was still born, and one of the last things she did was take castor oil, enjoy the end, i wish i could have made it 22 more days, i am happy to be a new mommy but lyric is a hand ful, just get lots of sleep ladies~~it's almost over, beside who wants a peroid i am jealous lol, who likes stiches and leaky boobs~ not me or worst a hurt butt from herriods tmi i know, ladies i am going to stay with you~take care hit me up

hellokitty- I am sorry you are dealing with digbats! many months ago my MIL asked who was throwing my shower i said i would assume my mom but not sure she was like well i was told that it is not the grandmas place to do that. Her nieces are the ones that said that yet they didnt take it upon themselves to organize one for me instead...so thank god my mom doesnt obey the rules that are as dumb as no white after labor day bs or i wouldnt be having a baby shower. then my dads ex gf wants to get me something but she is broke not to mention my mom cant stand her so i am sure she isnt invited but she called me and was like can you do me a favor and find out what everyone is getting you so i know what is left?? okay sorry i dropped off the conversation, i just got back. with regards to the castor oil, like i said, i took it with both my kids, with my daughter i took it 5 days before my due date. i took 1 tablespoon. thats it. in four hours, i pooped twice, then the contractions started. i had her at 10 am the next morning. with my son, i actually decided to take it earlier, i was very very miserable, and my parents were in town only for a week. i was 37 weeks when i took it, and asked my dr if it was okay before i did. she said yes, and she actually stripped my membranes that day too. so i went home, took a tablespoon, and went into labor about 4 hours later (about 6 pm). now, i did have a little watery poop for a while before i went to the hospital, but i was all done by the time i got there. had my son at 1230 that morning. i got the odorless tastless bottle, and it tasted like olive oil or vegetable oil. no taste really. i never got sick, and i never was exploding out either end. but, i will say that i took a SMALL dose (i think a bigger dose could be disastrous..but i was never nauseous)....the bottle says take 2 tablespoons...and i halfed it. i am not petite, I was right at about 200 lbs when i took it both times. Hope this info helps. I do not plan, though, to take it with my current baby. i am enjoying my last pregancy to the very end, and want her to come on her own time. (it will be interesting to see if thats the case in 2-3 weeks though!)

I am a just in such a pissy mood lately..to top it off my fiancees daughter came by to ask if my mother could cook something for my 'SIL's' baby shower..she is about 2 mths behind me..My mom doesn't even socialize with them and my 'MIL' who is throwing the shower has never done anything for my kids (her grandkids)and to top it off isn't doing anything for the 1 i'm expecting now either...Don't know if it's the hormones but i'm just so cranky & it really just irritated me..

dcarr that is exciting i cant wait to have mine that way i know what all i need to get. I dont have a problem with not getting a ton i just dont want to go get stuff and then get it from someone anyway. So basically i will be restless this whole week to find out what i need. I had a gf have a baby 6 weeks ago and he cant drink anything but soy formula so she had 11 cans that he couldnt drink and gave them all to me along with outfits he never wore before he outgrew along with socks and hats aww. Her lil guy slept all but 15 mins between 2 and 6:30 I dont see tristan being like that. I held zachary most the time i was there i hope the poor baby aint bruised since tristan was a lil jealous one and wouldnt stop kicking the baby on mommy's belly!

tristan-All my girlfriends went all out with decorating!! It was so sweet and nice. They wouldn't let me do anything but sit with my feet up :) I got 40 onesies and some bibs, blankets, another swing and another bassinet, 2 boppys(one with her name engraved in it), and some diapers and bottles. I've got about $400 to return and get the double stroller, some outfits, more diapers, bottles, and monitor. We'll have plenty of money for all of it too!! Thanks for asking!

DanielleS - My first was not active at all while I was pregnant. He gave us a few scares by how much he did not move. Well he is alomost 12 and has ADHD, very VERY active. This time, my little guy inside is kicking my butt!!!!! I am hoping it will be different this time around. well my dream delivery was to either deliver in Puerto Rico or a home birth or both... I always wanted my own family to deliver my baby, not any strangers, then again, I'm not too fond of strangers... When I finally deliver, I get greedy with my baby, I let only minimal contact with baby, If the baby needs to go somewhere like for shots or whatever, I go everywhere with baby, I need to see what the big bad wolf is doing, lol... Ok, is it even possible that your cervix can close after dilating? Two different doctors have told me that I am a little over 3 cm dilated, and like 70% effaced. That was on Thursday and Friday. Then, I had to go to L&D this morning, and this student doctor person said that I'm not dilated at all. I just don't know what to believe.

So here's a question for anyone who might have an answer. Every time I've had an ultrasound, been put on a fetal monitor, or even just had a doppler check, I've been told I have a very active baby. In L&D over the weekend, they couldn't even keep him on the monitor! So here's the question: could this indicate that he's going to be an active kid, too?
