Dates and numbers:
There are 60 days until your due date on November 05, 2008.
You are 220 days pregnant.
You are 7.2 months pregnant.
You are in your 8th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: January 30, 2008 to April 29, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: April 30, 2008 to August 12, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: August 13, 2008 to November 05, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby is continuing to grow each week that you remain pregnant. Your baby's crown-to-rump length is nearly 11.2 inches and total length is approximately 18 inches. Your baby weighs approximately 3.5 pounds at this point. Your uterus is about 4.4 inches above your bellybutton and continues to get larger. An average weight gain at this point is between 21 and 27 pounds. The weight that you gain is made up of your baby, placenta, blood supply, uterus, breasts, fat, water storage and amniotic fluid.
Because the ligaments and muscles supporting the small of your back relax and loosen in order to get ready for childbirth, your back may be aching from now on. There is usually nothing that can be done to prevent backaches, only to make them more comfortable. Many women get heartburn during these last few weeks of pregnancy because the oversized uterus leaves less room for the stomach and the contents within the stomach. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help relieve the discomforts of heartburn.
This week marks an incredible milestone in your baby's lung development. Before now, the air sacs and branches in your baby's lungs were present but not functional. The lungs were not able to inflate properly. However, now there is surfactant being produced in your baby's lungs. Surfactant prevents your baby's lungs from collapsing outside of the uterus and the baby is able to take in air and breathe properly. The fetal ear is almost completely developed both inside and out. Your baby can hear your voice and other familiar sounds that she will recognize after birth. Your baby is putting on white fat under the skin and the skin's color is pink instead of red at this point. Your baby's fingernails have grown to the end of her fingers and she may scratch herself while she is in the womb.

I am having a hard time sleeping at night. The best time for me to sleep is after breakfast in my husband's office. I have listened in on so many of his conference calls that I think I could work for the company! Yesterday he was talking to one of our friends about how I nap in the office and he said he likes it, its like having a pet. He just looks over and strokes my belly and I smile at him. I'm a little sad we won't be able to do this after baby arrives, its very sweet.tiggerlover -

Hello everyone! I have been roaming this site since about 6 weeks pregnant. I love reading everyone's post. Today, I decided to leave my two cents. First off this is my second pregnancy. My first child is 16 years old yes, I know big big gap, however I had no control over it that is how GOD planned it. My husband and I have been together for over 12 years and have been trying to concieve since then we tried everything, to come and find out we just had to relax and it happened. I can not be more happier. With my first I had a C-section and with this one I am having one also. Also, 6 years ago I had the Gastric Bypass Surgery so I do get an Ultrasound every 4 weeks because of this. My dr. advise me that GBS patients tend to have smaller babies or there growth stops at a certain point of your pregnancy. So far so good for me actually they always tell me she is weighing a week earlier. However my stomach is not big at all, people always say for you to be in your 8th month you dont look pregnant at all. should I be concerned?lindz -

babylicious-I've been feeling sick basically this whole last trimester. It sucks because I'll feel really good and get a bunch done, then I'll feel sick about 10xs worse than usual because I did all the stuff I did. That and the back pain and pelvic pressure it getting so bad that these days I'm not doing anything around the house because I wont be able to walk the rest of the day.heidibelle -

What experience do any of you mommies for the second, third, etc. time have with weight gain from now until your due date. I had a goal of under 35 pounds. My doctor's appointment yesterday was 22 pounds, so that leaves me with 13 pounds to gain (or hopefully not gain) in the last 8 weeks. I read somewhere that you gain half of your weight between 21 and 31 weeks, and that means I would gain 30 pounds total, roughly. Does that sound right? What would make it fly off the handle, if you know what I mean?*babylicious* -

Is anyone else feeling really sick today? I've just absolutely stripped everything out of my daughters bedroom to sort out and re-arrange and all of a sudden I feel like I'm going to be sick! It's not fair! - I was really enjoying that burst of nesting and now it's been rudely interupted! Itching to carry on with it, but figured my body might want a rest for a minute! Heard some people have sickness just before they go into labour? Anyone else heard that? xxxmkendall -

Hello Ladies...How are you all doin this morning!? I'm at work rite now and I need to vent lol! I hate when older ladies ( they think they are soo much freakin wiser) give me advice on my pregnacy! I'm like HELLO! STOP I didn't ask for it. I mean it would be ok if it was sincere but it's advice like Hunny...you won't have a damn life when your baby is born. I'm like umm I dunno about you and how you handled having your kids but having a baby isnt suppose to be the end of the world. Babies bring you happiness to your life and just because you have one dosesnt mean you life is over. The lady got mad and left my cubicle...lol stupid. sorry needed to say this...arn't i rite tho? xoxoelizabethf -

Expecting Erica,
We bought a scrapbook and a bunch of dimensional scrapbook stickers. The best brand is one called Jolee's Boutique, at Michael's. Anyway, we had everyone write their besr tips down, and we'll be adding it to the scrapbook. We're calling it the 'Baby Manual.' A lot of the ones we have so far are really funny. It's a lot of fun, and a great way for people to share advice without coming off too pushy, or like a know-it-all. The ones from grandparents are the funniest. Another thing we did was have everyone design a onesie. You can do it with fabric paint, but we had them design them on a computer, and we printed them on T-shirt transfers and ironed them onto onesies. A lot of our friends had really funny ones, and his paternal grandmother wrote him a poem that is going on one of the onesies. These were great ideas for us because not only are they fun, but it's something personal made for the baby that you get to keep.tiggerlover -

babyborders-Yes ma'am I have heard of that! All of my friends that have been induced have ended up in c-sections because the patocin(sp?) was so strong so they got an epidural, which caused them to slow down in dialating.
On another note, I miss all you ladies...I've been so busy with the nursery,I haven't had time for anything!

Hey girls! What is everyone measuring right now? My doc said I was 29, is that average? And along with the delivery question. I heard that if you have an epidural there is more chance that you will be forced to deliver via c-section, because there is more cases of 'failure to progress' anyone else heard that? elizabethf -

I had a just a little bit of vaginal discharge today and it is the first time I have noticed it. It is clear and mucousy like I get at ovulation. My stomach has been feeling a little more tight today than usual (no cramping). I am wondering if this is something I should be concerned about.laura marie ganey -

i had a c section with my first, not by choice it was because of my sons heart rate, after you have a c section you have the choice of another one or you can do it vaginal. after 2 c sections then you dont have a choice, you have to have c sections after that. with my other 2 sons i had them vaginal. with the c section i was in so much pain for about a month. having my other 2 vaginal was much better and i wasnt in pain. with my girl im going to have a c section only because my doctor is going to tie my tubs,im not looking forward to all that pain again!!CatwithKitten -

I don't think everyone has a choice in vaginal or cesarian delivery. If everything is normal, you will deliver vaginally; if there is a major issue you will have a c-section. Is it possible that a woman who has been given a choice falls somewhere in a grey area and the doctor wants to give her the option of weighing in on the decision? That sounds pretty reasonable to me.CatwithKitten -

well, i didn't know you could chose between a section and natural..i thought there had to be a medical reason. so says my doc anyway..i had a horrid delivery with my first..doc had to use the vacuum..4 times! and yes, it felt like he was ripping my insides out because the epi was long gone..anyway, he still will not give me a c section unless the ultrasound shows i'm having a big baby..i'm really scared about going natural this time. my first was only 6 pounds, so he wasn't big..the doc keeps saying second babies are easier. i just do not want there to be a chance of him using the vacuum again and i know he can't gaurantee me that. i feel like he's brushing off my concerns.soon2be momma d -

also, if you do get a tear or cut in your vajayjay it heals much faster than your belly cut will...soon2be momma d -
20.7 hours ago
Preggy: they don't always make a cut (episeotomy). In fact new research has shown that women tear more and more often when a cut is made, versus allowing that skin to stretch normally and naturally as your uterus opens. Also, nurses and doctors can massage that area to help it stretch. C-sections are not typically a problem for the 1st, it is the subsequent c-sections that cause problems and are dangerous - most doctors have a problem with a woman having a c-section and then going with vaginal births with later babies. Also, have you seen any new mommies going to the OB for their first checkup - you can SO tell the c-section mommies from the vaginals. The c-sections look more drawn in the face and usually walk hunched over. It is major surgery no matter how you look at it. I understand the need for them and am open to having one should the NEED arise, but I personally would never opt for elective major surgery. Yes, labor is painful but our bodies were made and created to do this - plus we have meds to help manage or eliminate the pain if we want. I hope that helps! I love hearing opinions about birthing options!preggy08 -

To continue the C-section conversation: here is the thing...one of my friends had C-section on her first child. Her appointment was 10:30 in the morning. She was done with the surgery by 10:34. She started working on her lap top at noon and started walking in the hospital 4pm the same day. She was so pleased with the whole thing that she's gonna have a C-Section for her second kid in December. I know there will be a huge cut on your belly and it takes a while to recover but to have a vaginal birth (with or without epidural)don't they cut your vajayjay for the baby to come out? So I think the difference would be a cut on your belly or vajayjay.MumofNate -

Bananas, plenty of water and tonic water (containing quinine) and reducing your salt intake will help with cramp and restleg legs. I sympathise as I suffer with leg cramps at night too and it's unbearable sometimes. I've also been diagnosed with SPD, which is why my pelvis sounds like it's cracking when I get out of bed, then I can hardly walk. Got a support belt on order and trying to move slowly and carefully, keeping my knees together, but nights and mornings are the worst. Any tips for coping with it?tiggerlover -

C-sections - In the US, most hospitals that receive payment from Medicare and Medicaid have to meet conditions of participation. In most cases, this means that the hospital cannot exceed 15% C-sections on an annual basis. That means no more than 15 C-sections for every 100 deliveries. The trend outside the US is getting to be giving women an option to ease the schedule for OBs as well as allow parents to pick a schedule that works for them as well. I am in the healthcare industry and also taking a class on insurance billing and coding right now...That said, I have a friend who after being induced at 41 weeks with Cytotek (an asthma medication that they cut in half and stick in your vajayjay) and then Pitocin had such an aweful labor, she was only able to get to 8-1/2 cm and then slipped back (however that works). Her epidural catheter (which she had been begging for since 4 cm) had fallen out of her back twice, and when they decided to do a C-section for 'failure to progress' the medication from the epidural pooled at her diaphragm and froze it, causing her to not be able to feel herself breathing and thus hyperventilated. Her husband was in the next room prepping to watch the delivery and missed the whole thing because they had to take the baby emergently in 3 minutes......
Obviously, this is the worst case scenerio, but just an example of what can happen.
I had my 32-week appointment today and was told to take 2 tums before bed to help ease the heartburn. I have only had 2 charley-horses - one in each leg about 3 weeks ago - but thank you for the advice about calcium and potassium in bananas. soon2be momma d -

Hi girls - BANANAS are fabulous for helping leg cramps, charlie horses and heartburn. My doctor recommended that I start eating them and not only does eating 1 per day help me go potty more regularly, but my former fire-breathing heartburn is WAY better and my leg cramps at night are almost completely gone. Just wanted to share!txgirl47bb -

I'm worried the vaccum might do brain damage. My sister had to have forceps used on one of her deliveries, and she said it felt like they were ripping her insides out. She had a c-section for her first (footling breech), but her other 4 children were completely natural - no drugs whatsoever - not even an IV.counterfitsmiles -

I was getting charlie horses. I started eating tums before bed and the calcium from those helped. Haven't had one since. Does anyone think forceps and a vacuum is inhumane? Lol I don't think that sounds like something I want on my babys head
