Growth of the womb during pregnancy

Braxton-Hicks contractions are going to get stronger and more frequent within the next few weeks. Braxton-Hicks contractions feel like a tightening at the top of your uterus that spreads down and then relaxes. Many women mistake Braxton-Hicks contractions for true labor contractions, but this is rarely the case. Braxton-Hicks contractions will diminish if you get up and walk around and they should not be painful.

Your baby's hair continues to get longer and thicker. Your baby's hair color probably is not going to be the same color from birth onwards, so you should expect it to change in color. Your baby is shedding most of lanugo, but the amount of vernix caseosa is increasing. Your baby is taking calcium from you to lay down lots of bone. Continue to take your prenatal vitamins and drink milk to ensure that you receive enough calcium.

If you were to deliver your baby now, it would probably be called a pre-term infant instead of premature. The only difference is in the maturity, particularly lung maturity. A pre-term baby is less likely to need intensive care because its lungs have developed. Doctors can test lung maturity with an amniocentesis that checks levels of surfactant.

The baby now rests on your uterus and is no longer floating.

Fingernails now reach over the finger tips and the baby can scratch itself.

Hi week 34, just arrived today in this week, this week has been the most interesting read lol. Ok heres how I feel. My boy is getting heavier and its making me feel grotty, some days I feel really heavy and have pains where his head is. If I walk for too long I get stitches on my bottom left side of my uterus, the heartburn has come back but bearable, sleeping is becoming a bit of a nightmare sometimes, last night for instance I didnt get a wink of sleep, my arm went dead and I was overly hot, just couldnt relax. No back pain as yet, I just feel like the baby is overtaking me. As for sex I went off it ages ago. I get really sore down there and sometimes itch becuase of the discharge. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Omg KAYLEEJANE!! I can completley sympathise with u!!!! I am the exact same!!! I have been told i have got SPD (Symphis Pubis Dysfunction) and got refered to a physio class and was given crutches to take the load off, feel asthough its getting no better tho :o( I have now been sent to see a consultant who has said that the only other way to get rid of my pain is to be induced which luckily i will be at 38 weeks!!!! Ask ur midwife about what u can do and explain how much trouble it is causing u!!! I dont no about u lot but my pelvis is also in two!! Feel like it is about to split every time i go to stand up too, and turning in my sleep is a major NO NO, it kills!!!! Ahhh well 4 weeks and counting x

I think my back is gettin worse everyday!! Its right at the bottom left.. if i sit or lie down for too long and get up it aches and aches!! Im normally ok when i get going like when i walk but getting up and takin that first few steps is a nightmare.. i literally have to get up and move around every 10 mins or so just so that my back doesnt cieze up lol! Obviously its due to the strain of the baby but im startin to walk like a duck now lol xxx

blooming-angie---I have the same thing, I think... I had the same thing w/ my previous pregnancy too. Its really hard to describe, but its everything you said, but quick sharp pains inside is the only way I can describe it. I've been getting them a lot lately, and by a lot I mean a couple times a day. I don't know 4sure what it is, but can only assume its our bodies preparing and widening for delivery.

oh also, if anyone can help me with this problem I would be sooo grateful. every couple hours or so I get a very intense and sharp pain in what feels like my urethra! Like right up my clitoris or pee hole. Cant describe it too good but it takes my breath away and is AGONY! and cant find similar problem on discomfort map and too scared to ask doctor. Just thought I would join in the sex debate. The way I have felt in the final trimester, I could not care less if ever have sex again! I still get urges (sparseley) but the actual act of sex is a) too uncomfortable b) too much hassle and c) I dont feel remotely sexy anymore! My poor husband is lucky if he gets it once a month now! but he understands why and we are both looking forward to the day my appetite returns! love to you all.xxx

i hae been bummed out the past 2 weeks or so!! just very tired very sharp pains and ready to be done!! i dont have a sex drive at all and me and my hubby did do it last night(for the simple fact hes being so good and i feel bad :-)) but it hurt really bad!!! Not fun at all so ic ant see how i can anymore before she comes and i know afterwards i wont...so i may deal with it because i do feel bad for him and all!! lol but it was just very i guess sore down there....I did how ever make him give me a lotioned back massage and leg massage before...and since he knew we would have sex he was all for it!! lol so it was worth it!! Good luck guys!! man can you believe we have around 5 weeks or less left?!?!

Just reading through some of the comments posted and the main topic is sex lol! Which is where im having problems at my house. I'm way way 2 tired for it but my 1st pregnancy i was all for it. I had a boy the first time and same for this baby... another boy! But my sex drive is just not there at all this time. I feel awful cuz I know my hubby is being left feeling what he calls 'neglected' but it feels better knowing that im not the only one not wanting it.

sarahxx - that pain sounds like the same thing i get. i asked my doc about it and she said the baby was probably just pressing down on a nerve. i have them multiple times a day and they are not fun but i was informed it was normal. i think EVERY pain in pgcy is considered normal lol.

Since everyone else is on the topic of sex, I'll jump in! I haven't lost an ounce of my sex drive but my boyfriend is too scared to even touch me:( We went from everyday, to 2 times a week, to me begging after 2 weeks! It's driving me nuts! I still look good and am not in any way overweight...just preggars! He said the thought of the baby in there just really freaks him out. Let's just say I go to sleep pretty upset all the time. No wonder I only sleep 3 hours a night!

hello everyone, i just had a scan to check size of baby and she is all ready weighing in at 6lbs 5 they have booked me in for another scan in four weeks but the docter thinks i won't make it that far when he told me this i just laughed and said all of my other three were big and not one of them came early. just had to tell someone. hope everyone is doing ok

I can't stand sex right now, it must be so awful for my bf. But I get the feeling that I have to go to the washroom after and it never goes away, similar to the feeling you get from a UTI....it's really weird...i hope this doesn't continue after I've had the baby!!

Hey mommas just wanted to contribute to the issue on sex. My bf and i still have great sex lives.he still finds me attractive and my libido hasn't gone down,i think it has increased or its just the same.The only problem we have is that he just cannot ejaculate in me because it causes me to have contractions.It's not an old wives tales it actually happens to me before i actually realized what was happening and that was from i was 5mths.the doctor said we should use that as a natural induction method when im 36 weeks or above ..lol.Semen contains prostaglandins which softens the cevix,it's true look it up.Good luck to yall.

hey ladies. i keep gettingthis really strange pain right down below it will stop me in my steps and will cross my legs really tight sometimes. its like a really sharp tingling feeling sort of well to be honest sorry for the tmi but it feels like someone has stuck a sharp knitting needle up my vagina. anyone else had this feeling or know what it could be? thankx hope everyone well. x

hello everybody, i had my 34 week check up on wednesday. baby has been engaged since week 31 and the midwife now says that she can only feel 2/5 of the baby's head because it is so far down???? some baby's dont even get into this position until labour!! does anybody think i should be worried about prem labour?? i keep feeling a sensation down below as if the baby is borrowing deeper and something is going to pop!! im prob just being silly but anybody have any comments or past experience with this? thanks, hope your all well, claire x x x

hi girls, good to hear you're all doing okay, i feel like a quick chat, hope you don't mind. We're still having sex too, my libido has been pretty low most of the pregnancy but in the last couple of weeks it has rocketed lol! Glad that dp doesn't mind - although he did go through a moment back there where he thought he was going to put me into labour by doing it, but i persuaded him to try and it didn't so he isn't worried now lol! The other day I was wanting to put some stuff in my loft, so opened the hatch, and did a mini jump to get the loft ladder (which i've done many times before) but this time I fell off the stool as i landed onto the floor, hit the ground with my shoulder, bruised my foot and cut my hand. And i was in total shock, bab moved pretty soon after but I really have learned to slow things down now and not to try to do too much, I feel so stupid for trying to do normal things at 34 weeks pregnant and considerably heavier than ever before! It scared me actually. On happier notes though the babs room is now ready, I just have to wash all clothes and nappies, and I'm starting to put my 3 hospital bags together. In fact our house is ready now, we finally got carpet everywhere this week so we're really nearly done, it's very exciting and finally feels like home. Anyway, I wish you all good health for the next few weeks, and luck for all the early's out there! This is a super exciting time! xxx

LacyLou - My first baby used to measure 1 week further than I was which is normal, never thought I would have a big baby but he he was 9 lb 12 oz, but I didnt seem that big. I am pregnant with my second and measure around the same 1 week ahead but I look smaller than before. They are keeping a closer eye on me this time because of his size but I think its a hard one to actually tell the actual size of your baby. I was told that they can scan me to guess the size but there is a % error either way. When any of you ladies have been told the weight of your baby so far how have they measured them and did they say how acurate it was? x x

gladekjeez 1-2 a week? I wish!!! I'm still having sex but it def slowed down a lot. He is always afraid to hurt the baby. I keep telling him how crazy he is but he is still paranoid about it. Silly boys! I need his donation too my doctor says seamen softens the cervix because it has something in it. I heard that was an old wives tale but then she told me it, so ::shrug::

raechelle- i was watching a program a few months back where the doc said the same thing about the babys lungs releasing a hormone that causes contractions. i thought that was very interesting. i was induced w/ my 1st- so i'm glad her lungs were okay!

i hear from alot of people that full term is 37 weeks and since i have to have a c section anyway i asked my doc if i could have it at 38 weeks. his response was no because even though 38 weeks is full term 1% of babies 'taken ' at 38 weeks have premature lungs. so i asked well what if i go in labor at 38 weeks? he said that what happens is the hormone that causes the babies lungs to mature when enough of it is produced it triggers another hormone that causes labor. so if you go into labor it will be likly that the lungs are ready. he also said when you have a c section you are saying ok baby ready or not you are coming out so he waits till 39 weeks if there are no problems to make sure the babys lungs are matured. may be useless info to some of you i just found that interesting and tought i would like to share it. also he said girls lungs are more likely to be mature at 36 weeks than a boys.......
