Dates and numbers:
There are 119 days until your due date on November 23, 2008.
You are 161 days pregnant.
You are 5.3 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: February 17, 2008 to May 17, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: May 18, 2008 to August 30, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: August 31, 2008 to November 23, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
Your baby's crown-to-rump length is approximately 7.6 inches and your growing baby weighs about 12.25 ounces now! Your uterus is about 2 cm above your bellybutton and you probably feel comfortably pregnant. Your growing tummy is not yet large enough to get in the way and you should still be able to bend over and sit without much trouble. You might be enjoying your pregnancy more than ever at this point if morning sickness was an issue in the early weeks.
Your baby's body continues to grow and develop every day. The organ systems in your baby's body are becoming specialized for their particular functions. The fetal liver produces different enzymes than it will produce after delivery. The liver is responsible for breaking down billirubin, which is produced by the breaking down of blood cells. Because the life span of a fetal red blood cell is shorter than that of an adult, a fetus produces more billirubin than adults do. Billirubin passes from fetal blood to the placenta and then into your blood. Your liver helps get rid of fetal billirubin. A newborn baby that has high levels of billirubin may show signs of jaundice. Jaundiced babies have a yellowish tint to their eyes and skin and are often treated with phototherapy.
Your baby's senses are developing daily. The fetus now has a full complement of neurons in the brain and is learning about her body and surroundings through touch. Touch is one of the first senses to mature and your baby may stroke its face or feel her arms and legs.
Your blood volume has increased more to meet the demands of your pregnancy. Most of the increase is in the form of plasma, the liquid part of your blood. This has the ability to dilute your blood and give you physiological anemia, which occurs during pregnancy. The measure of blood dilution is called Hematocrit and the levels reach their lowest points this week. You should check with your doctor to make sure you are not developing more serious forms of anemia.
Your baby now shows an extremely rapid brain growth (which lasts until five years after birth).
The ovaries of female fetuses contain primitive egg cells, all of the eggs a woman will have for her entire life. The uterus of female fetuses is also fully formed.

Well after a promising start my little one has gone back to flutters again instead of kicks. How much should we be feeling them move at this point? This is my first and only feel him for couple of mins here and there at different times of the day.ShaunaDear -

I feel like angry mom. I stay at home with my son and I think I am officially driving him nuts! I have been super bossy and am trying to lay off but it seems to come out of nowhere. Hopefully we survive this pregnancy in one piece.... dandunam -

pintpot and jenni28~ very true. i have nothing to add. am rh neg and my husband is rh+, have had two healthy daughters (both rh+ which means I could have developed anti-bodies) and waiting for my third child now. got rh shot at 28 weeks and after birth both times. they reminded me! and this time I got a shot early on due to bleeding.... good luckpintpot -

jenni28 - Snap i'm rh neg to and have to have the Anti 'D' injection at 28 + 34 weeks, and knowing the way this pregnancy has gone both me and the little one will need it once I give birth. Your midwife should of put your blood group in a red pen (or a stand out colour) on your notes also the hospital have there own set of notes and would of noted it down there too but there is no harm in you mentioning when your baby is born about it. I'm not sure how much you know about the injection my midwife gave me a leaflet once she found out my blood group but i'm not an expert. It if your partner has rh pos blood group then the baby could be a pos one too, for your first pregnancy the chances of it getting rh diesese is silm but for future pregnancies, your body learns to attack the pos antibodies in your baby to protect yourself. The anti 'd' injection helps prevent this. If your babies blood group is neg they and you will not need the injection after birth. Hope this helps.jenni28 -

Is anyone Rh negative?? I am and I just wanted to know about the shots you have to get at 28 wks and delivery. I have a fear that they will forget it at delivery and it can be harmful to baby. katie88 -

OH my, I think I'm way behind everyone! I have not bought a single thing except a few outfits. I had a friend that gave me a swing, car seat, bouncer and infant high chair. I'm dying to get my crib, dressers and such, but everyone keeps telling me to wait until my baby shower, but my baby shower will not be until the 1st or 2nd week of October. Plus my doctor said that he thinks I'll deliver in the beginning of November. AHHH. I'm panicing, yes, but i just want everything done, I've always been the type that's always 2 steps ahead. I feel helpless. I did buy some furniture and my family got really upset with me and told me to take it back, so I did. Oh i dont know, I'm just babbling. Any advice????? I really want Ashton's stuff to be done before I cant do much.samsara625 -

hey, I was taking a sneak preview at week 22 (I'm still in 21!) and read the message by Sondra the lady who fears her obstetrician is about to force her into c-section! I work as a doctor....no-one has the right to force you to do anything you don't want to and it should always be your choice. I don't know enough about your diabetic control and baby size etc to comment from a medical point but ethically you make the decisions. My advice is to ask the doctor in question to give all the pros and cons of elective caesarian and use the info to make an informed choice. Don't be scared to ask him to clarify anything.....its an important decision and you need to know your facts. There's also possibly the option of inducing the labour on the 3rd giving you the chance at a vaginal delivery although the timing won't be exactly how nature intended and you'll prob require close monitoring. One thing though....I've assisted with several caesarians and its not as bad as I thought it would be.....women usually up on their feet the next day, less pelvic floor damage than delivering a large baby naturally, and whilst surgery has some risks for you (as does natural childbirth)nowadays its a very safe way for baby to be brought into the world. Wow...this message has become long....hope you don't mind me giving my 2 cents and hope whatever you decide it all goes well xxx ShaunaDear -

ShaunaDear, I know what you mean! We are trying to find a new place to live, and I feel like I'll be useless if we don't find one very soon! I already can't lift very much, and have a little bit of back pain, so I know what you mean. I would love to have all the baby stuff done and everything, but Chris is the one with all the money, so I have to wait until he decides to buy it all. Hope everything's going good!ksr1170 -

Shaunadear~I have all of my stuff pretty much. I just need the small stuff like diapers and lotions. I enjoy shopping so this has been a fantastic reason to buy a little here and some more there. Is this your first? ShaunaDear -

Does anyone have all the baby stuff yet? Nursery done and clothes and things? I am starting to feel a little panicked for some reason that if I don't get it all done now, I will be too big to do anything!samsara625 -

Tamz- the numbness in your wrist is likely carpal tunnel syndrome, it can be brought on by pregnancy. I had it something awful with my 2nd pregnancy.
You can try wrapping your wrist with a tensor bandage, or wearing a carpal tunnel wrist brace at night.ksr1170 -

Yes, the iron will certainly darken it and slow it down. Fun, fun, fun. As for the peeing, last night was a record for me. I think I woke up every hour to go to the bathroom. I'm surprised I don't feel more tired during the day. hotmamamary -

ok.. let me start off my saying I AM SORRY in advance for the TMI i am about to give you.. i was just wondering if anyone else had been having this... The last two times i went to the bathroom 'Number 2' my poop has been a VERY dark brown... like pretty much BLACK! i told my mom about this and she said that i must not be eating enough fruites and veggies.. BUT the strange thing is that my cravings have been fruits, veggies, and salads.... that is pretty much all i have been eating for the last 2 weeks! so not eating enough fruits and veggies is not the problem... i havent been going to the bath room as regularly as i usually do.. i wouldnt say that im constipated... BUT borderline... so i think that is why it looks so dark.. anyways, sorry again for the TMI but anyone else going through this?? hotmamamary -

Well, I am back again. Seven short months ago I gave birth to a precious little girl. And according to my doctor I am now 22 weeks pregnant. That means I conceived when my baby was two months old. I had absolutely no symptoms. Until one day I thought wow that feels movement. I thought it couldn't be and sure enough it true. I am due 11-25-08 with a baby boy. I am nervous. My babies will be less than one year apart. peaches22 -

Hello everyone.. i hope everyone is doing great!!! None of my friends are pregnant and none of them have ever been pregnant before.. well, yesterday we all went to lunch together and we were talking about my baby shower and the pregnancy and things like that... well then the topic went to sex and everyone was throwing their 2 cents in.... when i said something about sex their mouths hit the floor and they just stared at me and i was like 'WHAT? did i say something wrong??' and they were like, 'OMG your still having sex i cannot believe that' and then about 10,000 questions followed.. i had no problem answering the questions because i LOVE talking about my pregnancy every time i get a chance (lol) BUT they all seemed completly grossed out that i was having sex! (which really kinda pissed me off) anyways, one of my girlfriends was like 'when i get pregnant im not gonna work, stand, have sex, or do anything for that matter and i dont think you should either' i told her that alot of luxeries do come with being pregnant BUT your life cant just stop.... i deff still have to work for as long as i can so i can have money for the baby lol!!!! anyways, i guess i shoudlnt be complaining about my friends because they really have been so supporative during this pregnancy BUT they just really got on my nervous yesterday.. anyways, i hope everyone is doing great i just needed to VENT! lolhollywood21 -

Its not the cat litter, but cat poop, and you just shouldn't touch it unless your cats are totally indoor cats and have been for at least six weeks (the shedding life of toxoplasmosis).
So if you have indoor cats, no worries, if you have indoor/outdoor cats, and are not sure if you are already immune to toxoplasmosis, then you should make sure to clean your hands thoroughly after changing litter, and change it often, as toxoplasmosis does not shed out of the feces until it is 24 hrs old. mommy2bwithtwins -

newbiemomtobe - I've heard that sleeping on your back as long as its not on a hard surface is ok. I tend to go from my side to my back throughout the night and wake in the early hours but thats cause I have to go to the loo about every 3 hrs or so. You'll find as you get bigger it may become uncomfortable for you to sleep in your back, if you find it difficult to sleep on your side try putting a pillow under your bump for a bit of extra support. Or sleep in a reclining sitting postion with lots of pillows.newbiemomtobe -

My little man is kicking more now or poking - something. My hubby finally felt it - he was so overjoyed. Sleeping isn't 100% - not sure why but I seem to wake up at 2am ish and can't fall right back asleep. Strange huh? I am so concerned about sleeping on my back but I am going to check with my doctor because I have read sleep how your comfortable just get some sleep..:)MDL -

Darlasmom-I think it just depends on the position the baby is in. My baby is turned head up (breech) right now, and I constantly feel movement and kicking around my pelvic bones, bladder, way inward. I still feel movements from the outside, but they are light. Darlasmom -

Does anyone else's babies kick inward more often than outward? I mostly feel it kicking my bladder and inside organs....it is the strangest feeling.lilbunbun -

Well where did week 21 go thats flown by, hope the rest of the pregnancy goes that quick. Seems theres nothing wrong with my little boys hearing was joking around last night saying he's not much of a footballer as I've only felt flutters up to this point. As if to prove a point he started giving his kicks some welly even his dad felt them, I just lay there in amazment for about 10-15mins (I've never felt him kick for that long either) while he was kicking away, I even can feel him moving away as I type this. newbie-mami -

Emmaflower, for what I understand, your body gives priority to your baby so the baby will take your vitamins and minerals if he doesn't have enough, so that leaves us mommies with a lack of vitamins and minerals. That's why we need to take extra vitamins to cover ourselfs and the baby's needs.
*******
Weee on friday we will try to find out the sex of our lil baby 'I'm so excited'

I have a quick question about pre-natal vitimans... i am taking them... BUT some people have told me that they are for the baby... BUT i have also heard that the vitimans are actually for us (the mothers) because we are sharing everything with our baby and sometimes WE dont get the stuff we need... Does anyone know the answer to this?? Is the Pre-natal vitiman for us, or the baby, OR both??? (it doesnt really matter because either way i am going to take mine.. i take them at night and when i forget i feel like total crap the next day.. i was just wondering which was correct)militarymommie -
