Dates and numbers:
There are 133 days until your due date on December 07, 2008.
You are 147 days pregnant.
You are 4.8 months pregnant.
You are in your 5th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: March 02, 2008 to May 31, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: June 01, 2008 to September 13, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: September 14, 2008 to December 07, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)

Congratulations! This week marks the half way point of your pregnancy. It has been 18 weeks since the date of conception and your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.6 to 6.4 inches. The fetus weighs about 9 ounces and your belly definitely has an obvious bulge. Your waistline has expanded and is no longer visible. Your uterus has now moved up enough that it is pushing your abdomen outwards. The top of your uterus is even with or just below your navel.
Sex organs are showing clearly on this girl
For the remainder of your pregnancy, the growing uterus puts pressure on your lungs, stomach and kidneys. This will make you feel short of breath, the need to urinate more frequently and can cause indigestion. The added pressure on your abdomen can also cause your bellybutton to protrude and cause an `outy` instead of an `inny`. Many pregnant women begin to notice stretch marks around this time as well. Your abdominal muscles are being stretched and pushed apart as your baby grows inside of you.
Your baby's skin begins to thicken this week and will develop four layers. Your baby's sebaceous glands secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa. Your baby will be born with this wax and it will look like paste. The vernix caseosa is crucial because it protects the fetus' fragile skin from the continuous immersion in amniotic fluid. Lanugo hairs secure the vernix caseosa in place and it is thick around the eyebrows. Scalp hair and toenails are beginning to form at this point. Hair can also be seen on the upper lip and eyebrows.
Around twenty weeks, most doctors will order a routine ultrasound to check the baby's development. Measurements will be taken and the sonogram technician will check to make sure there are no defects or abnormalities. Your ultrasound technician can also see how long your cervix is and can tell you approximately how much your baby weighs at this time. Most expectant women also find out the sex of their baby during this time! If your sonographer does not offer pictures, ask them for a copy of the photos.

Has anyone nursed after a breast aug? I nursed my daughter, without bottles !!!, for 22 months. Then I had a breast aug. The incision was through the areola. My plastic surgeon said no problem but I've been reading that some women with this incision have had problems. Women who have nipple cuts loose the nerves that stimulate milk producing hormones. Just wondering if anyone has had a problem. I haven't lost any feeling. Just scared. Nursing is so important to me and I didn't realize until lately that this could be a potential problem.LauraJ -

haha reading your post about the yeast infections...i have posted before...and I SWEAR BY IT...it sounds reallllly gross, but take a tampon slather plain white sugar free yogurt on it, and stick in you for about 3 hours, and change to a diff. tampon couple times a day, your yeast infection should go away, i had a REALLLY bad one, when i first got pregnant, and the yogurt cleared it up! =) its worth a try and doesnt cost as much.AmBear -

firsttimemommyj, whenever I take antibiotics when I am preg I get yeast infection. And my docs too have told me to use the 7 day treatment, they said it irritates less. AND I felt my babies FIRST kick from the outside today! I felt it 3 times! Just amazing no matter how many times I have felt it with my last 2 pregnancies...greenigemini -

Thanks KelliMG. I am so paranoid these days I even second guess the docs and nurses lol. I made sure I asked was she sure I'd be fine with the Monistat One and she said I would so I guess I'll go ahead and give it a try. Thanks again for the adiviceKelliMG -

Not sure about Monistat 1. Is that the one day one time only treatment? My OB may be a bit old school, but when I get yeast infections while pregger's (already had my round this time), he tells me to get Monistat (or store brand equivalent) but to be sure it's the 7 day cream treatment. Not sure why, but after 15 years and 6 pregnancies, he's always done right by me, and I don't question him. If it's what your Dr. or staff recommends than he must feel ok with it.firsttimemommyj -

Hi Ladies, I have a quick question. I believe I have a yeast infection and when I called my doctor they told me I could use Monistat. They even told me that Monistat 1 would be ok. Naturally I'm always a bit paranoid. What do you guys think?Kitty210704 -

You are right mommabug I need to chill out but I have that type A personality that makes me want to have everything right at all times. I know my husband can do many of the things I insist on doing but I have a fear that it wont be like I like it which will inturn cause me to do it anyhow. So I figure why bother just do it yourself and then when Im stressed out I want to blame everything and anyone except the true culprit. ME! I will however consider your suggestion and I've noticed when I go to the beach I am so happy and relaxed. I must also add that when I began this website I didnt explain my family situation. Its extremely complicated and since experiencing all these weird side effects of pregnancy I want to lighten my load as much as possible through communication. Well first off the one child listed in my profile is not my biological child. She is my husbands child through a relationship that occured prior to me. I've been raising her since she was 11 months old and I'm really the only mom she knows. Her mother was the type who wanted partying instead of being a mom so we have full custody of her. Secondly I've had full custody of my two nieces and nephews since 2005. Their mom and dad have really bad addiction problems and they were going to be put into foster care unless my husband and I intervened and took them in. Their parents do not come and visit and they do not provide any financial support. On top of that our household have 4 children all under the age of 8 in whom I did not give birth to. So this pregnancy which was a completely unplanned but very much wanted and a SHOCK!mommabug -

Ally: my baby is a low rider, he hangs out on top of my bladder, so when he kicks he is down LOW!!! LOL, the little stinker.
Classy: don't stress about heart murmurs, they are so benign, and a lot of people have them. But you do need to relax. Ever considered getting a pregnancy massage? Kind of pricey, but worth it if you need to chill.cl@ssymom -

Hi ladies. Just wanted to leave an update on my results from my echocardiogram. My doctor said that I was diagnosed with a mild heart murmur. Wow! I freaked because I didnt know what that was but I am told that it can be brought on by pregnancy due to the increased blood flow to the heart.I was told that there is nothing to worry about and there is no treatment needed. This is why I feel the palpitations throughout the day. Pregnancy really can do alot to your body.Is there anyone else out there who is going through a similar situation? Also to add insult to injury when I went to get my 20 week ultrasound the tech said she couldn't see all four chambers of my babies heart? She said it had something to do with the way baby was positioned.I follow up with that in 10 days. I am completely stressing over everything which is only aggravating my physical state. How do I relax? mariettap -

I woke up in the middle of the night to help DD with something. 2 thoughts struck me: 1) Oh my, when this baby comes, my big girl will still need me in the night once in a while. whoa. And 2) MAN, was I hungry! I mean, not just for noshing, but I could have had a big meal. I tried to ignore it and eventually fell asleep, but it seemed like forever. Shoulda fried an egg at 4 in the morning. KelliMG -

Ally, I get kicks all over. Some are near the belly button and others are really low. I think it just depends which way your baby is turned when she kicks.Ally -

Well I went for my U/S today. Everything looked great the baby was being stubborn and had the legs crossed. The tech said at one point she thought she saw boy parts but not sure. SO we went to my appt that was right after and the DR said they saw an abnormality in the babys stomach! A hole with intestines protruding! I am freaking. Anyone have any knowledge of this I would appreciate encouraging words. I have to go to the high risk DR on monday :(nannersmama -

hi ladies hope everyone is doing well. Today I went to have an echocardiogram and was told that everything looked normal. The size and valves to my heart all looked perfectly normal and there are no blockages. I am relieved but still a little scared because they happen when you least expect them to. Thanks for all the reassuring messages sent to ease my mind. They really helped. Well good luck ladies and I will keep you updated because baby books do not prepare you for things like this.preggogeologist -

katechris, I bought a cushion for my chair at work. Nothing special, just something fairly flat but padded, and it's so much better! I sit in front of a computer all day and I also tend to slouch, so my tailbone was always sore. If your pain is really bad, I know there are cushions especially designed to keep pressure off your tailbone (they have a little divet on the back so that your tailbone isn't actually touching anything when you sit). I'd try something like that. I know I'm sooo glad I bought a pillow to sit on! Good luck with the heartburn and mood swings :( I hope they go away soon for you.katechris -

Yippeee for me.. lols. I am all belly as i haven't plumped up anywhere else as yet what is it with people and commenting on size??.. My poor fella diserves a medal for dealing with my moods this week. mayabe that is why he has all of a sudden began to use his gym membership to loose his belly and his extra chin..giggles...Anyone working in a office environment have any tips for me that may help my pain my backside and back?Kitty210704 -

cl@ssymom - I've also experienced palpatations but I had them before I was pregnant too. It's common for a pregnant womens heartrate to be elevated because of all the extra blood in the circulatory system. That causes the palpatations too. The palpatation spells shouldn't last very long though and can sometimes make you feel dizzy so if you get them and your standing up, sit down until it passes. But there is nothing wrong with having an EKG just to be safe. Being pregnant is definately not a time when we should blow things off as no big deal. Better to be safe than sorry :)w1sttimemommy -

cl@sseymom-I'm also having the same problem stopped by the pharmancy checked blood pressure it was normal but heart rate was 137 bpm i just assumed it was high blood volume and heart having to work harder. But i'm going to check with my ob.cl@ssymom -

The palpitations do not occur everyday and they are not painful but they are scary. My ob says that she feels they are just from and increased blood volume being pumped through the heart. Anyhow Ive elected to have a echocardiogram just to be safe. Please if anyone has experienced or knows anyone who has experienced this please leave a message.cl@ssymom -

hi ladies just wanted to anounce that my husband and I are having a girl. Curious to know though is there anyone out there who is having heart palpitations. Please let me know if you are experiencing anything remotely close to this. Im really scared when I experience this and have elected to have my heart checked. I've never had this before and my ob says it may just be from the increased blood flow volume my heart ahs to pump.lisac -

HOORAY!!! 20 weeks! AND it is my hubby's birthday today too! What a good day. Last night I was playing music for my baby boy like I usually do, and he wasn't moving around as much as normal, so I told my husband that he wanted to play with his daddy. As soon as daddy put his hand on my tummy that little boy started kicking and moving like crazy! I swear, he knows his daddy already and loves him!maggiedee1002 -
