Dates and numbers:
There are 136 days until your due date on December 10, 2008.
You are 144 days pregnant.
You are 4.7 months pregnant.
You are in your 5th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: March 05, 2008 to June 03, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: June 04, 2008 to September 16, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: September 17, 2008 to December 10, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)

Congratulations! This week marks the half way point of your pregnancy. It has been 18 weeks since the date of conception and your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.6 to 6.4 inches. The fetus weighs about 9 ounces and your belly definitely has an obvious bulge. Your waistline has expanded and is no longer visible. Your uterus has now moved up enough that it is pushing your abdomen outwards. The top of your uterus is even with or just below your navel.

Sex organs are showing clearly on this girl

For the remainder of your pregnancy, the growing uterus puts pressure on your lungs, stomach and kidneys. This will make you feel short of breath, the need to urinate more frequently and can cause indigestion. The added pressure on your abdomen can also cause your bellybutton to protrude and cause an `outy` instead of an `inny`. Many pregnant women begin to notice stretch marks around this time as well. Your abdominal muscles are being stretched and pushed apart as your baby grows inside of you.

Your baby's skin begins to thicken this week and will develop four layers. Your baby's sebaceous glands secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa. Your baby will be born with this wax and it will look like paste. The vernix caseosa is crucial because it protects the fetus' fragile skin from the continuous immersion in amniotic fluid. Lanugo hairs secure the vernix caseosa in place and it is thick around the eyebrows. Scalp hair and toenails are beginning to form at this point. Hair can also be seen on the upper lip and eyebrows.

Around twenty weeks, most doctors will order a routine ultrasound to check the baby's development. Measurements will be taken and the sonogram technician will check to make sure there are no defects or abnormalities. Your ultrasound technician can also see how long your cervix is and can tell you approximately how much your baby weighs at this time. Most expectant women also find out the sex of their baby during this time! If your sonographer does not offer pictures, ask them for a copy of the photos.

classy - I have to give you credit for accepting so many children into your home and heart that you didn't give birth to. We have a couple close friends who have a blended family with their biological children and foster/adopted children, some with disabilities. My husband used to refer to my children as his step-children, which is correct, until Blaine commented to him that he might be best to refer to the kids are his children. To kids it doesn't matter where they came from it's who accepts and loves them...and that's you in your case...so you're mom. I asked Blaine's wife when I first met her which ones were hers, she calmly stated with a smile, 'all of them'. You are so blessed to have been given the privilage of raising all of the children in your household and helping them to mould themselves into the people they are meant to become. Make sure to take some 'down time' for yourself and as far as needing to communicate or vent, that's what we're here for. Koodoes to you!

YAY 20 weeks WOO HOO!!!!

Gbaby3 - 16.1 hours ago
Had to mention that I bought a stretch mark prevention/improving cream that works!!!I've been using it twice a day for a month and the small stretch marks that I do have are diminishing. I used vit e oil and palmers with my last pregnancies and have just a few light marks. The product Im using now is revitol. Works great!!! I feel like an advertisement. No Im not being paid. But I love this stuff!!!

mommabug - 17.9 hours ago
Hey Classy: It really sounds like you have a lot on your mind. I am sure you want everything to be perfect, I think we all do. I hope you are able to find a way to relax your body, and mind.

Has anyone nursed after a breast aug? I nursed my daughter, without bottles !!!, for 22 months. Then I had a breast aug. The incision was through the areola. My plastic surgeon said no problem but I've been reading that some women with this incision have had problems. Women who have nipple cuts loose the nerves that stimulate milk producing hormones. Just wondering if anyone has had a problem. I haven't lost any feeling. Just scared. Nursing is so important to me and I didn't realize until lately that this could be a potential problem.

LauraJ - 20.5 hours ago
haha reading your post about the yeast infections...i have posted before...and I SWEAR BY IT...it sounds reallllly gross, but take a tampon slather plain white sugar free yogurt on it, and stick in you for about 3 hours, and change to a diff. tampon couple times a day, your yeast infection should go away, i had a REALLLY bad one, when i first got pregnant, and the yogurt cleared it up! =) its worth a try and doesnt cost as much.

AmBear - 21.4 hours ago
firsttimemommyj, whenever I take antibiotics when I am preg I get yeast infection. And my docs too have told me to use the 7 day treatment, they said it irritates less. AND I felt my babies FIRST kick from the outside today! I felt it 3 times! Just amazing no matter how many times I have felt it with my last 2 pregnancies...

greenigemini - 21.8 hours ago
Claire-I'm not sure that I have felt the baby move either.. Today I have had a little dull pain that happens really quick and just randomly on the side of my stomach and I was womdering if that is the baby? Or is it a quick muscle spasm our something? Can anyone inlighten me on this?

claire22 - 22 hours ago
yay i am moving to 20 weeks tomorrow hehe cant wait!!!! but am worried cause i still havent felt any movement is anyone else that?! x

firsttimemommyj - 22.7 hours ago
Thanks KelliMG. I am so paranoid these days I even second guess the docs and nurses lol. I made sure I asked was she sure I'd be fine with the Monistat One and she said I would so I guess I'll go ahead and give it a try. Thanks again for the adivice

KelliMG - 22.8 hours ago
Not sure about Monistat 1. Is that the one day one time only treatment? My OB may be a bit old school, but when I get yeast infections while pregger's (already had my round this time), he tells me to get Monistat (or store brand equivalent) but to be sure it's the 7 day cream treatment. Not sure why, but after 15 years and 6 pregnancies, he's always done right by me, and I don't question him. If it's what your Dr. or staff recommends than he must feel ok with it.

firsttimemommyj - 22.9 hours ago
Hi Ladies, I have a quick question. I believe I have a yeast infection and when I called my doctor they told me I could use Monistat. They even told me that Monistat 1 would be ok. Naturally I'm always a bit paranoid. What do you guys think?

Kitty210704 - 1 days ago
Ally.. thats true about heart murmurs.. they are very common. i'm 1 out of 10 kids and at least half of us have one. i wouldnt worry too much.

cl@ssymom - 1 days ago
You are right mommabug I need to chill out but I have that type A personality that makes me want to have everything right at all times. I know my husband can do many of the things I insist on doing but I have a fear that it wont be like I like it which will inturn cause me to do it anyhow. So I figure why bother just do it yourself and then when Im stressed out I want to blame everything and anyone except the true culprit. ME! I will however consider your suggestion and I've noticed when I go to the beach I am so happy and relaxed. I must also add that when I began this website I didnt explain my family situation. Its extremely complicated and since experiencing all these weird side effects of pregnancy I want to lighten my load as much as possible through communication. Well first off the one child listed in my profile is not my biological child. She is my husbands child through a relationship that occured prior to me. I've been raising her since she was 11 months old and I'm really the only mom she knows. Her mother was the type who wanted partying instead of being a mom so we have full custody of her. Secondly I've had full custody of my two nieces and nephews since 2005. Their mom and dad have really bad addiction problems and they were going to be put into foster care unless my husband and I intervened and took them in. Their parents do not come and visit and they do not provide any financial support. On top of that our household have 4 children all under the age of 8 in whom I did not give birth to. So this pregnancy which was a completely unplanned but very much wanted and a SHOCK!

mommabug - 1 days ago
Ally: my baby is a low rider, he hangs out on top of my bladder, so when he kicks he is down LOW!!! LOL, the little stinker. Classy: don't stress about heart murmurs, they are so benign, and a lot of people have them. But you do need to relax. Ever considered getting a pregnancy massage? Kind of pricey, but worth it if you need to chill.

cl@ssymom - 1 days ago
Hi ladies. Just wanted to leave an update on my results from my echocardiogram. My doctor said that I was diagnosed with a mild heart murmur. Wow! I freaked because I didnt know what that was but I am told that it can be brought on by pregnancy due to the increased blood flow to the heart.I was told that there is nothing to worry about and there is no treatment needed. This is why I feel the palpitations throughout the day. Pregnancy really can do alot to your body.Is there anyone else out there who is going through a similar situation? Also to add insult to injury when I went to get my 20 week ultrasound the tech said she couldn't see all four chambers of my babies heart? She said it had something to do with the way baby was positioned.I follow up with that in 10 days. I am completely stressing over everything which is only aggravating my physical state. How do I relax?

mariettap - 1 days ago
I woke up in the middle of the night to help DD with something. 2 thoughts struck me: 1) Oh my, when this baby comes, my big girl will still need me in the night once in a while. whoa. And 2) MAN, was I hungry! I mean, not just for noshing, but I could have had a big meal. I tried to ignore it and eventually fell asleep, but it seemed like forever. Shoulda fried an egg at 4 in the morning.

KelliMG - 1 days ago
Wow, 20 weeks. So exciting and scary. Only 20 more to get sooo much accomplished!!! I hope once school starts for my boys, I can really get busy, setting up and preparing for our little princess!!! I'm so excited.

rickey - 1 days ago
Ello all.. my belly button is not sore but sure is sticking out... which it never used to do LOL... Hope it feels better.. xxx

michelle121208 - 1 days ago
Today marks 20 weeks for me! I'm so excited! Time has gone pretty fast so far. This Tuesday I get to find out what I'll be having! Best wishes to all you mommies and mommies to be!

frenchbaby - 1 days ago
Is anyone else's belly button sore?!? I think it's just that when I'm standing, the skin at the top of my belly button is stretching alot. It's making me wish my belly button would turn into an outy soon ;)

frenchbaby - 1 days ago
Ally, I get kicks all over. Some are near the belly button and others are really low. I think it just depends which way your baby is turned when she kicks.

Ally - 1 days ago
Our baby is definately moving a lot more now! Its fantastic I can even see her kick in my stomach!!! Just one question though as I am quite worried - she is kicking about 2 inches below my belly button?! Is this normal at this stage! Im just scared that she might pop out shes kicking that low!! lol! any1 having the same movements? x

Candace21 - 2 days ago
I swear ladies, My baby is going to make me big as a cow...I'm just always SNACKING on something...I am definately going to have a little porky in December...Congratulations Ladies!!!!We are half way there..

tummytummy23 - 2 days ago
20 weeks today!! Half way there already! Time is really going fast. The first half hasn't been all that bad for me!...a lil sick, kinda moody, a lil dizzy here and there, but nothing to extreme!!...I'm not very big yet though! Like if I haven't told people that I was pregnant, most can't really tell!! I feel my munchkin moving though, so that can't be a bad sign. I have my first U/S on Monday, and I can't wait! But I wish all of you and ur lil munchkins the best!!

peasquak my son was born with gastroschis and that is when the intestines on the outside the abdominal wall has a hole in it the dr induced my labor I was due sept1 but had him July 29 he was in nicu for 23 days but he is doing great!! Your baby should be just fine

peasquack - 2 days ago
Well I went for my U/S today. Everything looked great the baby was being stubborn and had the legs crossed. The tech said at one point she thought she saw boy parts but not sure. SO we went to my appt that was right after and the DR said they saw an abnormality in the babys stomach! A hole with intestines protruding! I am freaking. Anyone have any knowledge of this I would appreciate encouraging words. I have to go to the high risk DR on monday :(

nannersmama - 2 days ago
are we all just a bit klutzy? I fell yesterday, down my stairs....I swear, I've never seen my husband move that fast to get to me! lol! He is so cute. The only bad effect is a twisted ankle, thank goodness. Guess I shouldnt be in such a rush. That'll teach me!

cl@ssymom - 2 days ago
hi ladies hope everyone is doing well. Today I went to have an echocardiogram and was told that everything looked normal. The size and valves to my heart all looked perfectly normal and there are no blockages. I am relieved but still a little scared because they happen when you least expect them to. Thanks for all the reassuring messages sent to ease my mind. They really helped. Well good luck ladies and I will keep you updated because baby books do not prepare you for things like this.

preggogeologist - 2 days ago
Has anyone bought a crib yet and where did you go to get good safety ratings. If anyone has a crib they LOVE from a previous child let me know the brand and model. Crib shopping is getting to be a little overwhelming. Thanks.

miraclebaby - 2 days ago
peasquack - well I guess I'm glad I'm no the only one falling around here. I took a spill right when I got out of bed this morning. I have been feeling pretty week from lack of eating and I think I stood up too fast so I got dizzy and my legs gave out and I busted my right knee. That's gonna leave a giant bruise.

peasquack - 2 days ago
Well I am off to do some things today .. THEN I have my ultrasound at 2:30!! I am so excited. I am a little nervous..clumsy me fell last night I slipped going out the door. It was wet from the rain. I fell on my arse but still nervous. Anyway I hope baby cooperates and I see the sex!!!

frenchbaby - 2 days ago
katechris, I bought a cushion for my chair at work. Nothing special, just something fairly flat but padded, and it's so much better! I sit in front of a computer all day and I also tend to slouch, so my tailbone was always sore. If your pain is really bad, I know there are cushions especially designed to keep pressure off your tailbone (they have a little divet on the back so that your tailbone isn't actually touching anything when you sit). I'd try something like that. I know I'm sooo glad I bought a pillow to sit on! Good luck with the heartburn and mood swings :( I hope they go away soon for you.

katechris - 2 days ago
Oh gosh Heartburn and one heck of a sore tailbone and erratic mood swings. Welcome to my world. I sit down in a call centre all day and mt tail region has been so sore of a evening. I get heartburn from eating anything and My belly is growing at a rate of knots and everyone at work and in my life wants to make it their business to inform me of how gigantuous i am becoming even my bf's Mum, and i keep having volatile moods when I come home from work and am worn out and have so much to do still in my day.. Yippeee for me.. lols. I am all belly as i haven't plumped up anywhere else as yet what is it with people and commenting on size??.. My poor fella diserves a medal for dealing with my moods this week. mayabe that is why he has all of a sudden began to use his gym membership to loose his belly and his extra chin..giggles...Anyone working in a office environment have any tips for me that may help my pain my backside and back?

Kitty210704 - 3 days ago
Hello Ladies!! WHOOHOO!! Im offically 20 wks!! Fianlly half way and i really dont feel pregnant yet. Its really weird. I dont have much of a belly or anything yet. I guess that will change really soon haha :) I can not wait for my belly and to see my little one move! I find out the sex next thursday, a week from today!! :)

miraclebaby - 3 days ago
cl@ssymom - I've also experienced palpatations but I had them before I was pregnant too. It's common for a pregnant womens heartrate to be elevated because of all the extra blood in the circulatory system. That causes the palpatations too. The palpatation spells shouldn't last very long though and can sometimes make you feel dizzy so if you get them and your standing up, sit down until it passes. But there is nothing wrong with having an EKG just to be safe. Being pregnant is definately not a time when we should blow things off as no big deal. Better to be safe than sorry :)

w1sttimemommy - 3 days ago
cl@sseymom-I'm also having the same problem stopped by the pharmancy checked blood pressure it was normal but heart rate was 137 bpm i just assumed it was high blood volume and heart having to work harder. But i'm going to check with my ob.

cl@ssymom - 3 days ago
The palpitations do not occur everyday and they are not painful but they are scary. My ob says that she feels they are just from and increased blood volume being pumped through the heart. Anyhow Ive elected to have a echocardiogram just to be safe. Please if anyone has experienced or knows anyone who has experienced this please leave a message.

cl@ssymom - 3 days ago
hi ladies just wanted to anounce that my husband and I are having a girl. Curious to know though is there anyone out there who is having heart palpitations. Please let me know if you are experiencing anything remotely close to this. Im really scared when I experience this and have elected to have my heart checked. I've never had this before and my ob says it may just be from the increased blood flow volume my heart ahs to pump.

lisac - 3 days ago

Serenity: I wouldn't worry. I can't hear anything with a stethoscope, but I feel him moving. The books and everything say you should start to feel movement between 16 and 20 weeks, well...we are still at week 20, so it should be coming soon! Don't stress :)

youngmumof3.5 - 3 days ago
