Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 71 days until your due date on December 23, 2008.
You are 209 days pregnant.
You are 6.9 months pregnant.
You are in your 7th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: March 18, 2008 to June 16, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: June 17, 2008 to September 29, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: September 30, 2008 to December 23, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)

At this point in your pregnancy, your baby's crown-to-rump length is approximately 10.4 inches and the total length of your baby is around 16.7 inches. Your baby weighs about 2.7 pounds and continues to grow every day. If you measure from your bellybutton, your uterus is 3.5 to 4 inches above it. Total weight gain at this point is usually between 19 and 25 pounds.

3D sonogram of a fetus in week 29

Babies that are born prematurely can be very tiny. Even a baby that is only a few weeks early can be very small. Your baby will grow rapidly from now until week 36, and then at a slower rate thereafter. Generally, boys weigh more than girls at birth. The average baby's birth weight at full term is 7 to 7.5 pounds.

You might notice some leakage of colostrums from your breasts around this time. Colostrums is a sticky, watery substance that provides your baby's first food if you choose to breastfeed. Milk does not come in immediately after delivery and colostrums is high in calories and enough for your baby's first few days of life. Your baby is stimulating the production of colostrums. The baby's body is ensuring that there will be a readily available food supply after delivery.

Your baby will continue to open and close his eyes in the womb and may be able to see silhouettes of objects or even people in the right amount of light. Your baby should be moving many times throughout the day. Some of your baby's movements will be predictable and if you notice a decrease in fetal movements, you should lie down and do a fetal kick count. You should feel your baby move approximately ten times in an hour. If you do not notice the proper amount of movements, you should contact your healthcare provider.

Research has shown that your baby is not only able to hear, but also able to recognize your own voice. This shows that your baby can already learn, remember and recognize.

goodbye week 29, see you all in week 30!

cupcake-mary - 2.7 hours ago
Ahhh, dont feel too bad! We are still waiting for our house to finish being built. We probably wont be in it until I am at least 35 weeks along thanks to the land surveyor taking his time this year. I had planned to have everything done and ready by this time so I could completely relax the last 2 months... But, no.. Just be thankful you have a room for him at this point! I am getting so stressed - uurrghh.

NZmama - 4.2 hours ago
No heather you are not the last. Our nursery is still needing to be plastered and painted and none of our stuff arrives until the first week of December (coming with my in laws from overseas). So don't panic, I am in disarray too : )

heathernewman - 7.6 hours ago
Anyone else NOT have their nursery ready?? I'm going crazy over here lol My husband just got a new job so money is tight at the moment and I have absolutely NOTHING ready. I have like four outfits, that's it lol I was hesitant to fix up the nursery after losing two babies already, but I know time is going by fast and i need to get motivated (and money...) Just wondering if I'm the last one?? :)

Morning H4H- how are you feeling??

newlifehopes - 20.5 hours ago
Kazr, i got a glucose test done (just a urine one) last week but i think my midwife checks it every visit but cant be sure. just know she did it last week cause it came back positive, but after a further bloodtest i was in the clear.

mamabear0608 - 20.7 hours ago

kazr - 21.9 hours ago
well i decided to start my maternity leave 6 weeks b4 im due so i can get sorted 4 xmas and spend as much time with rhianna as possible (shes 5 1/2yrs)cause all my time will b with the baby in the first few weeks and dont want her to feel left out. im entitled to 39weeks off paid and a further 13 week off unpaid so a total of 1yr (im taking off the full amount!!)my maternity pay goes on my earnings of the last 6wk so the more overtime i do the better the maternity pay so im trying to do as much as possible. has any1 else ad this glucose test done from the uk cause ive never heard of it until i came on here??

jen lo - 1 days ago
Hey Ladies, Had my glucose test on Monday all good, the whole waiting for 3 hours wasn't all that bad. Have had a braxton hicks this week two it nearly knocked me for six, not painful but uncomfortable. Baby is so active the last week too I cant believe it, 10 weeks to go almost , am back to the hospital in 2 weeks time so am looking forward to being scanned fingers crossed they do scan me. Here in Ireland we get 26 weeks leave we get money from the government, then we can take 16 weeks at our own expense which is good too so all in all 10 months off yippee, I am finishing work on 11th December so will have 2 weeks before due date to get organised. Havent' started nesting yet, but think ddan has the house is spotless, he is doing jobs arond the house that Ive been trying to get him to do for years!!! I am not complaining though!!!

newlifehopes - 1 days ago
@rachyq... hope you're okay. i know someone who was born at 30 weeks and she's doing great, she's 7 now. i'll keep my fingers crossed for you both, try and stay calm.

newlifehopes - 1 days ago
@kinta... i know, thats pretty ridiculous.

newlifehopes - 1 days ago
@lindsey. i think my baby is still headdown as i can feel her hiccups down there. also, when you feel your belly, its quite easy to locate the back, once you've down that, you can sometimes feel the head or the bottom (feel prety much the same) but, if you gently push the head only the head should move but if you gently push on the bottom the whole baby moves. thats the theory anyway.

rachyg - 1 days ago
Hi girls, well what a bad last two days I have had. OMG. Now are you all sitting down. I hope you are. Are you ready. Well. Wednesday night, I ruptured my membranes (waters broke) which i didnt know i thought I was just incontenent. But thanks to a few lovely ladies on this web site, told me to contact the hospital so i did. The hospital told me to come in straight away so i did. They did a few tests, and it is defiantly my waters breaking. So the ambulance transfered me to another hospital where they have NICU there. So now here I am in hosptial, my waters are still breaking, but no contractions yet. I have a few pains that are tightening but nothing to be alarmed. The Doctors has said that then next 72 hours are critical with my waters either breaking, or me and bubby getting an infection. AFter that, they said within the next 7 days they think i am going to deliver. Atm I am 30wks 2 days pregnant. So every day is just a blessing and I am hoping I make it to 34 weeks. At least i am in hospital in the best hands. I will try and keep everyone updated as much as possible. i will also try and keep my website updated so you all know the process. If you want to add me you are most welcome too. please pray for me and bubby that we make it each day with out infection and no labour. thanks for everyones for your support. xoxo

So thats a no?

sara-in-oregon - 1 days ago
@ lindseyvesey24 - My baby has had his feet in my ribs on and off for a few weeks... so I had a pretty good idea that he was head down.... then the Dr confirmed it based on the location of the heartbeat when he did the doppler and just by feeling the lumps and bumps of the baby in my belly.... at the moment my baby is facing my left side. I can feel all the bony knees and elbows on that side.

lindseyvesey24 - 1 days ago
So how do you guys know that the babies are head down?

spudjc - 2 days ago
mommy also check out the mucous plug information (r any other things you may want info on) by clicking on the FORUM AND DISCUSSION tab on the left side of the page, I have found it super helpful in the past and I find myself referencing it a lot more lately.

kinta - 2 days ago
I swear australia is the only country that doesnt have a maternity policy. Even africa gets more time off than we do!!! AFRICA!! No offence to people in africa...and it annoys me that just because I dont work I'm not even entitled to maternity leave but its not like I can get a job, plus im a student. If men were pregnant, there would probably be 2 years of paid maternity for everyone! *humph* haha

sexyery85 - 2 days ago
just put up new 3d pics of my baby bear!!!!

mommy2b18 - 2 days ago
thanks spudjc i appreciate your feedback. it freaked me out when I saw it. it seems like iv been going through everything early i started leaking colostrum at 16 weeks.Hopefully he stays in there for a while

spudjc - 2 days ago
mommy sounds like your mucous plug, if you have already called your doctor i wouldn't worry too much about it. I read that it usually happens around week 31-32 but maybe it is just happening a little early for you. If you have any worries though maybe to reassure yourself you should go to labor and delivery.

spudjc - 2 days ago
babycallahan have you called your doctor? It sounds like your ligaments stretching, but still better off safe than hurting!! Good luck

spudjc - 2 days ago
in the us,in ny state at least, you are allowed through the fmla act 12 weeks unpaid leave after the birth of a child. All jobs are different, but most that I have heard of allow moms to be out with some form of their paycheck for 6 or 8 weeks depending on if they have a c section or not. Then the addistional 4 or 6 weeks that you would take would be completely unpaid. I think it is great that the uk gives parents this much time.

mommy2b18 - 2 days ago
Today after using the restroom a stringy thick creamy yellow mucus came out and quite a bit id say.Iv never experienced this before. Is this something i should be concerned with? does it sound like i might be loosing a bit of my mucus plug?I called my doc but she said unless im having contraction along with it not to be worried and she'll check me on Tuesday at my appointment.Id appreciate any feedback on my page. thanks a bunch ladies you guys have been great

babycallahan - 2 days ago
No one has answered my questions.. thanks

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
so, in the usa there isn't a national level of entitlement, or is some states do you have one?

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
this article i've found says their trying to increase uk maternity allowance to 1 year but are worried it'll make woman less likely to get employed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7504637.stm

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
apparently, correct me if i'm wrong, in canada you get 14 months and swedden 16 months.

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
@Spudjc.. i live in the uk. its about average to get 39 weeks, you can also take another year after that but you dont get paid for it. men only get 2 weeks paid leave, then 13 weeks unpaid leave.

pookiekke - 2 days ago
My husband and I have our own business and we always are closed Nov., Dec., Jan., and Feb. So, I am very lucky to have a good bit of time previous to her arrival to finish getting ready and also a good bit afterwards to spend time with her. I am thinking of not going back to work though. I might decide to work from home doing bookkeeping for other business' besides our own. I have so much heartburn and acid reflux right now it is crazy. I feel like crap today too so I left work and came home to rest. I am also constantly on the toilet. I still feel like I have to go to bathroom even after I've just gone. I don't know if she is head down or not yet but she is putting a lot of pressure on the ole' bladder.

spudjc - 2 days ago
39 weeks? where do you live newlife? I only get 6 weeks maternity leave, and my doctor is taking me out of work 2 weeks before the due date but I dont get paid for that time. That is awesome that you get that long. Since the doctor moved my due date to the 17th that will take me out on the 3rd of dec and as long as I have the baby on the 17th then I will be back to work on Jan 28.

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
Kinta, sorry to hear you're not so well, hope you can get back to sleep... and my baby is head down too and i'm on the loo all night!

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
@Kazr, so you're starting your maternity leave, i cant decide when to begin mine.. i really want to stop work asap but i only get 39 weeks leave so obviously the sooner i take it the less time i get with the baby. but i think the beginning/middle of november may be about right. when's everyone else starting theirs?

newlifehopes - 2 days ago
@ourlittlehogi.. i'm planning a home water birth if all goes to plan.

kinta - 2 days ago
Greetings 29weekers. Its currently 5am in the morning and I have indigestion and a sore tummy. My baby is also head down! Which does wonders on the old bladder. Last week my uterus was measurng 30cm, i hope this doesnt mean im having a massive baby haha :P Hope everyone is well! I cant believe next week we'll be 30 weeks! Getting to 30 weeks will be a big milestone! Not long now :)

kazr - 2 days ago
well today i have put my 28day notice in to start my maternity leave and i carnt believe it as come round sooo fast b4 we know it we are going to hit our due date ladies!!!!! my little boy seems to be having a party in there at the minute hes sooo active and his head is down already which i dont think my little girl was at 29 weeks. really hoping not to get induced this time 2 (rhianna was 11 days late and they tried inducing me twice but didnt work!!)i agree with eating chocolate so much at the minute had to drink hot choc instead to get my sugar kick lol thought it was better than eating chocolate gateau evryday!!!

spudjc - 2 days ago
hello ladies! I fell soooo sick today. My boyfriend has been really sick for the past week and now I have whatever he had plus my whole stomach feels really gross. I am at work now but I dont think I will last the day the way I am feeling. Hopefully the boss realizes that I feel like crap and sends my butt home. I wondered why i slept so good through the night last night, must be my body finally giving out on me with the flu.

mandybrooke - 2 days ago
I just found out that my husband is staying out of town until Decemeber. He was supposed to be home in 2 weeks! I feel so lonely and depressed!! Hopefully my placenta has moved up and i don't go into preterm labour! :(

avenue - 2 days ago
mine doesnt stop moving either, my other 2 wernt as active as this one. i had a dream last night, i was sat down, and suddenly this foot shape was sticking out my side, it came right out, and i showed my husband, and it was that much stuck out, we could see all 5 toes. it was weird. its proberly because im not looking forward to when baby streches its foot right out of my side, i hated that, with my last pregnancy.
