Dates and numbers:
There are -10 days until your due date on December 27, 2008.
You are 290 days pregnant.
You are 9.5 months pregnant.
You are in your 10th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: March 23, 2008 to June 21, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: June 22, 2008 to October 04, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: October 05, 2008 to December 28, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
If your labor is induced, there are a number of ways this can be done:
1 - breaking your waters - puncturing the amniotic sac, which means your waters leak out. This can often stimulate contractions. This procedure is sometimes known as ARM, for Artificial Rupture of the Membranes, or amniotomy;
2 - giving you a peccary of hormone gel in your vagina, which delivers labor-inducing hormones to the cervix; or
3 - giving you a drip of oxytocin which puts the hormone directly into your bloodstream to stimulate labor.

Induced labor can sometimes mean your contractions come on quickly and intensively, and this may make it harder to cope with. So when deciding whether this option is for you, you may want to take this into account. You may end up needing more pain relief as a result.
A baby that's gone more than a week or so over the 'official' due date may have dryer skin which tends to flake. This is because the vernix that would normally cover the skin has stopped being produced.
`
Up to 10% of pregnancies are not delivered by 42 weeks... and only a small
number of pregnancies that go past 42 weeks have problems. In fact, about
95% of post term babies are born without problems.`
--American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG, 2005)
Almost there! Did you know that we also have a month by month calendar for babies? You can find it in the menu under `Babies`:

I had my baby girl Sylvie May on 31st Dec. She weighed 6lb13oz and is absolutely beautiful. The labour was also good being only 5 hours long from start to finish and with only gas and air for pain relief! Unfortunately I suffered a 3rd degree tear but I really couldn't care less about that when I look into my little baby's eyes!
Hope everyone else is doing good
Love
Jo

For anyone trying to bring on labour, try watching Knocked Up! Seeing her give birth at the end did it for me! Contractions started immediately and put me in labour better than any of the other methods I tried. Maybe it reminded my body what it should be doing.chellebob -

I eventually had my beautiful baby boy yesterday tea time. 18 hour labour. 7lb6. It hurt a lot but was worth it in the end. Was going to have epidural but managed with just gas and air in the end. kinta -

Well...its now one week past my due date. My doctor says he wants to induce Monday morning if I haven't gone before then. I get induced with the Gel..not piticon...so its not that bad. {I had my daughter that way} Kinda hoping I can hold it out until Monday..that way I won't be rushed & can have everything done around the house. Alot less stressful that way!first babyboy -

i had my gorgeous baby boy on december 29th with no epidural the contractions hurt but the euphoric feeling after of doing it natural is a high beyond words...... also its true for first time moms if you jump to epidural your chances of c-section rise.
he came out screaming and had no problem latching on....hes a champ:) AND he got a score of 9 apgar score 10 is perfact.
i know you all are patient know it can happen anytime. i had no symptoms or anything then 4am december 29th it came on and i got to hospital 5cm dialated and 12 hours later he was born....you can do it. dont be afraid of pain. its worth it. but if you get pain meds i still love and am proud of you:) the baby come when he was ready. i know its hard but trust when its time its time and he/she will come. dont stress. i wish soon you all have your little ones i know you are very anxious. god bless!chellebob -

I am in the hospital... checked in around 1 PM...contractions continuing... have been on fetal monitor for a while, and last check was dilated to a 5. Now walking the skybridge and other hallways in the hospital in a hospital robe that's a bit too small and pajama pants... looking slightly like a crazy escapee... so far so good.CandidaAndPaul -

So. Sami and I discussed it and did some more research and decided we're just not comfortable inducing at this point. So I have canceled today's induction
Of course we are concerned for the health of the baby, so we decided to go in for more testing, and questions, and a consult with one of the midwives. Don't know if she will have any alternate advice from the doctors or not, but we'll see.
I'm still having plenty of non-painful contractions. Frequently too, although I'm still not timing them... because they don't hurt, I don't exactly know when they start or stop.
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't feel the baby moving... I was so paranoid about yesterday's ordeal that I freaked out. Sami talked to the baby and poked my belly until Markus woke up and started moving. Poor baby, we startled him and he got hiccups.
Anyway, it's 6 AM now, and I can feel the baby moving just fine. Shift change at the hospital is at 8 AM, so we will head over there sometime after that.

Good luck to all of you about to go in for C-Sections/Inductions!!!!! I'm just kind of hanging out here waiting :) I went to the doctor yesterday at 9:20am and he did a cervical check. I'm dilated to 1 and 80% effaced (which is a little progress since last week when I was dilated to 1 and 50% effaced). But I do have a quick question. I've had cervical checks weekly for about 3-4 weeks now and haven't had any increase or change in discharge before, but last night (about 10-12 hours after the exam), I went to the bathroom and there was a glob of dark brown discharge. After that, my discharged was tinged brown for a little while, and I think it's back to normal today. Do you think that I lost my mucus plug? Do you think that it was because of the doctor's exam, or maybe labor is soon?

Hi girls - in case you haven't heard yet, there has been a mass high chair recall on the Evenflo Co. Majestic High Chair. The backs of the seats have been said to fall off causing the babies injuries. Pass this along to friends and family that don't take part in this site.frenchbaby -

Hi all...for those of you who were in hanging in there with me...I had Madelyn Grace on Dec. 11th at 9;19 pm by c-section after failed induction. I had a really hard c-section. Apparently I have a super-liver that metabolized my spinal in 25min instead of the usual 3-4 hours. Doc was shocked. So I could feel the latter part of the section. When I started to feel things, they used concious sedation so I dont remember much but some of the pain as the sedation wore off. But TOTALLY worth it. So who else is hanging in there?moosiemoose -

Aaww! Congrats Dec! I hope everything went smoothly! My Baby Evan is 2 weeks tomorrow and I LOVE my memories of having having my daughter 3 years ago and having him those first hours and couple of days in the hospital when they are sooo brand new and you can't take your eyes off them!It is like a completely surreal experience to hold your brand new itty bitty and fall in love with them in a matter of moments! bdoe -

Far out....just got back from the hospital when I should have been given the gel and stay there till baby is born. They sent me home because there are no rooms. How disappointing >:( One woman said that the others are priority inductions and are not simply because they're overdue. How heartless....no apology or understanding. I'm 11 days over and had my bags in the car and everything. I complained about her attitude and the other staff were a lot better. At least I got a sweep done since they could reach my cervix this time. But it's still depressing.mbs -

Imogen Sophia was born Wednesday at 41+1. After my induction was rescheduled 4 times, I finally got in. She was having some cord trouble so we went forward w/ c/s. She is amazing and the last 4 days a blur. Congrats to the new mommies and those about to be.rosiejrz143 -

I took some castor oil again last night (16 hours ago). I didn't think it would start things but took it to cleanse my bowels so I have less chance of pooping in labor. It did it's job and no baby. But I bet I still poop.Ha haelismummy -

Dec, the wait is on! I go in for the gels in 5 hours! Stay overnight and if nothing, break waters then induction...
I wonder how we'll both go? Good bless :)elismummy -

Yeah, my wish was to go into things nice and slow too and avoid induction. I also wanted to go without the epidural. But after speaking with my well trusted IVF midwife/nurse, I've decided that if I get induced, I'm getting and Epi. ASAP. She said that most women who go natural with their first and have an Epi. with their second, wonder why they ever went natural and choose Epi's every other time. Good on the brave women who do go natural and rise above their pain. I dream of doing it, but I think I'll take the easy way out ;)DeanneJM -

elis-I've been walking everyday and doing stretches on my exercise ball. I'm hoping to use a birthing ball during labor. I'm really worried about the induction making the contractions come on fast and strong. I was really hoping to ease into things. But at this point, the end is near and that's all I can think about.
