Dates and numbers:
There are 111 days until your due date on December 29, 2008.
You are 169 days pregnant.
You are 5.5 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: March 24, 2008 to June 22, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: June 23, 2008 to October 05, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: October 06, 2008 to December 29, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)

This week your baby's crown-to-rump length is around 8.4 inches and your baby will weigh approximately 1.2 pounds. Although it weighs a little over a pound at this point, your growing baby is still tiny. Your uterus can easily be felt 1.5 to 2 inches above your bellybutton. The fetus does not appear to have much room in the uterus anymore, but as your pregnancy progresses, space gets much tighter!
Because your uterus is expanding and putting a great amount of pressure on your abdomen, you might get stretch marks. Your weight gain may also be taking a toll on your body at this point. Many pregnant women experience backaches, bladder problems, sore feet and fatigue that affect their daily routines. You might also have some nasal stuffiness or nosebleeds.
Your baby's face is basically complete now. The fetus's eyes are close together on the front of his face and they are still shut. Your baby's ears have moved into their final position on the sides of his head. Where they are now is where they will be when your baby is born! Hair will continue to grow on his scalp and his eyelashes are well developed. Most of your baby's features look the same as they will at birth. Because your growing baby is getting plumper, he no longer has room in your tummy to do cartwheels and somersaults.
Now is a good time to ask about prenatal classes being offered in your area. Many local hospitals offer classes for expectant women and their families. You should aim to complete the classes approximately one month before your due date.
You may sometimes get a stitch-like pain in your side from time to time. It's simply the muscles of the uterus stretching.
the unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair called lanugo. Its tender skin is protected by a waxy substance called vernix. Some of this substance may still be on the child's skin at birth at which time it will be quickly absorbed.
The child practices breathing by inhaling (up to a liter/day) amniotic fluid into developing lungs.

everybody is defferent a develops at their own rate. When your 5.5 months things are just starting to happen. Give it some time. I bet in a month your going to feel your little one all the time and your tummy will probably be bigger. My mother was very small with me and my brother. I huge to her. Because when she had me she wasn't as big as I am right now. And my belly is hard as a rock. But Im also very short! So I dont got much room. My husband on the other hand was a big baby. So my daughter took after him. (9lbs) I guessing cuz Im even bigger with this one that He is another big one. Just ignore others. Everybody thinks they know it all but everyone is defferent wiht different genes. Enjoy your pregnancy and look on the bright side at least your body isnt miserable because your so big. My little one it running out of room and it is already getting painful. Rught now he is in my ribs and needs to get out. I cant imagine what Im going to look like or what pain I'll be in 3 months. Dont worry time is flying by and you'll be feeling you little one all the time in no time!!!ArmyMom2b -

Something really weird just happened, please forgive me if this is TMI. I had popcorn this evening and felt like something was between two of my back teeth. When I flossed, it started bleeding really heavy. I hadn't had any issues with gum bleeding to this point and it stopped after a few minutes and gargling with mouthwash. Is this normal? just curious.shaybaby -

Yippee- week 24!
About the weight comments, you have got to read CassandraLee's blog 'You MUST read" 21 Aug 08. It is a list for people who are not pregnant. Bottom line up front, it says congratulate us, keep mean comments about weight gain to yourself, and mind your own business. I was laughing my a** off! Definate must read! She's still under 23 weeks I think.

Hello ladies! I am constantly being told that I look like I am due to give birth at any minute because my belly is HUGE! It is getting kind of annoying. Is anyone else having this issue or am I being too sensitive?Annie40 -

Hi jo jo although i'm showing a bit, the movements i feel seem to be nothing like what alot of people describe here. I don't get the constant kicks and punches and hardly any you can see through the skin. Standing up i feel too tight to feel any kicks but there's a fair bit of sliding around or rolling going on. At least thats what it feels like. just wanted you to know we all experience different things and thats ok. X jo,jo -

Thanks Babygirl01, that's reassuring, people seem to have no clue what a bad idea it is to tell a pregnant woman that her pregnancy isn't normal! It is driving me crazy!Babygirl01 -

Ladies, I work in a hospital. I had to work for 24 hours last night. Unfortunately someone died, and we had to take them to the morgue. That really sucked. Of course I didn't get much sleep and couldn't sleep all day today. I'll be back at work tomorrow. I need a break from school and work. Vacation I'm coming soon.Babygirl01 -

Jojo- I met a lady that was 8 months pregnant and did not look it. Your prepregnancy body frame, genetics, and eating habits have a lot to do with how big or small you will be. She delivered a healthy 4lbs 12oz baby girl last week. jo,jo -

Hi ladies,
Things seem to be going well with my pregnancy. The only thing is that I am starting to get really really down in the dumps due to the people around me telling me what I should and shouldn't be experiencing. The things that are getting to me most is that they think I am showing far too small for 5.5 months... everyone looks at my almost flat stomach with a worried expression and tells me it is strange to be so small at this stage. The second thing is that I am supposedly not feeling the baby as much as I should be. I feel her moving occasionally when I am at rest, particularly when lying down but I have never felt her when standing up or when walking, I would say that I feel about 3 bursts of 4 or so kicks a day. Sorry for this long ramble but people are really getting to me on these two issues and I wondered if anyone could put my mind at rest, particularly with the movement thing!
Thanks so much Jo xLouLoudev -

hi, well just thought id have a moan, my back is really hurting, im really tired, and it doesnt help, that my 2 year old, keeps waking up in the night, to get in my bed. last night i tried to wach a film, and he woke up not long after. he wont have his dad settle him back down, and i cant put him back in his own bed coz he screams, and he shares his room with his 1 year old sister, and shes a nightmare, if she gets woke up. so my back hurts more, coz he keeps poking me. im tired, and my hair needs washing! and ive got a big spot on my nose! cantwait2bamummy -

Hey ladies.. I put a name poll up. I was wondering if you can check it out. Im asking on what you girls think of my moms suggestion on this certain name to go along with the name I PICKED OUT! Another thing too.. I really easily get offended. so please dont give me suggestions on how you would spell the name I LIKE. Even though you may not try to be rude or anything like that.. but I take it like that. So comment or vote.. roze -

Natjean436: Just take baby layette. Blankets for baby, couple of diapers, baby bottle, formula depending how far you live from the hospital. baby car seat.Stuff to take for yourself comfy sweat pants, pajamas, (Make Sure Its Maternity Size)slippers, socks, robe, 'Overnight' maxi pads, extra undies.Travel size toothpaste, toothbrush, shower cap, soap and razor. Pack a light snack (protein bars) for the other person that will be with you in the delivery room. Also if your hospital lets you take music with you take it so, you have something to relax you during labor and of course camera/camcorder to take of baby. Hope it helped some.Best Wishes! P.S Tucks Medicated Pads work like heaven, after vaginal delivery they soothe that whole area. This is a must! my3sons -

This is my 3rd son my other two are 15 and 12 years old..This is my husbands first child. I am recently rediscovering my stretchmarks that I got in my first pregnancy. They are silvery now and I usually don't notice them, now I can, and you know what? I love them. Crazy huh? My husband has only known my body post-child and not the hard body i was in my 20's. He loves me and thinks I am the most beautiful woman in the world. Maybe that is why my stretch marks are beautiful to me. Because they represent this time in my life, the few times i have been pregnant. Love it.lindseyvesey24 -

Liz, I am totally in the same boat. He has been sulking since I told them Thursday afternoon. I figured the more I let them help with the baby stuff the more he will feel apart. I guess time will make it all better but he's even gone as far as saying he wanted to go to bed early... Liz3 -

sunshine:: MY SON DID THE SAME THING!! lol... The only thing that made it better was I explained to my son that he wld have to teach her about superheros and video games since my daughter and I didnt know anything about that stuff.. That seemed to soften the blow. My hubby was not much help, but I told my son that it didnt matter if it was a brother or sister but that he wld be a great big brother and be able to help me out with her and he wld have to protect her... He liked the idea of protecting her.. ((He is almost 6 and my daughter is abt to be 9))mandi-will-have-3-kids -

Well as of tomorrow I am 24 weeks and I have never posted on here before so be patient with me... lol. Anyway, I found out on Thursday that I am having a girl. We have decided on the name Macy Renee. I went home to tell my two other kids (ages 8-boy and 9-girl)and my daughter squealed with delight and my son instantly started sobbing. I was not ready for that reaction. I knew he wanted a boy but I didn't think he'd cry if it was a girl. He has been acting really depressed over the entire thing and I'm not sure how to make him feel better. Does anyone have any suggestions? His dad told him that at least his sisters will have cute friends... I could've shot him.. lol. I just need some ideas on how to make him feel better from people who have experienced this before. Thanks for all your help!Liz3 -

With my first I was told they cld cut me. but my doc said he didnt like doing that bcuz not all women need it and if he does it anyway then your stitched... I told him to way dude... lol.. I ended up not tearing or anything which was ok with me, even tho I still was extremely uncomfortable..newlifehopes -

Ready4mygirl.. my physio showed me how to sleep to prevent hip/back problems. you have to sleep on your side with knees up together. you then put a firm pillow between your knees and upper legs. next you place a pillow under the small of your waist. you have to squeeze the filling out of the center of that pillow so that it fits under your waist. when you've done that there shouldn't be any pressure on your hips/back/waist/pelvis.Casandra -

the hospital should let you put your baby in what ever you want.
also I've heard that episiotomys hurt more and can take longer to heal. personally when I had my daughter I tore and got stitches it was so uncomfortable to have stitches down there. but this time around I would still prefere to tare then get cut cause you could tare just a little bit or they could cut you and it could be worse than what you would have torn (does that make sence?)ready4mygirl -
