Your baby's weight has doubled in two weeks and now weighs about 3.5 ounces! The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches. If you spread your hand out opened wide, you can see about how big your baby is.

Your uterus is moving up and is now approximately 1.5 to 2 inches below your navel. You are showing more now and there is a noticeable swelling in your abdomen. At this point in your pregnancy, a 5 to 10 pound weight gain is normal. Other people can probably feel the difference in your lower abdomen if they were to rub your tummy. To be the most comfortable, you should be wearing maternity clothes or clothing that is too large for you. You may have felt your baby move already. However, you might not feel it move every day at this point. As your pregnancy progresses, movements become stronger and more frequent. Feeling your baby move can help reassure you that your baby is doing well. You might also notice that your gums or nose bleed occasionally. This is from the increased blood volume that puts pressure on small blood vessels and capillaries.

Huge changes continue to take place within your developing baby. This week fat begins to form and will continue to do so until he is born. Fat is important to the body's heat production and metabolism. Right now, at 17 weeks, water makes up about 3 ounces and fat 0.018 ounces of your baby's body. In a baby at term, fat makes up about 5.25 pounds of the total average weight of 7.7 pounds. The placenta is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. The placenta will continue to develop in tandem with the fetus and it will weigh more than a pound at birth! By this week, the placenta is large and well established with a network of blood vessels that exchange nutrients and waste.

The eyes are facing more forward. The ears are now close to their final position.

Your baby is more flexible with ability to move head, mouth, lips, arms, wrists, hands, legs, feet, and toes.

Fingerprints are forming now.

To everyone who responed to my post. I am also on the heavy side, but not so much where I should not have gained. BUT, I do think it is b/c I am eating healther when I do eat. I eat a small breakfast about and ounce of fruit, and maybe small sandwich for lunck. I eat very little dinner. Also I used to eat a lot at dinner and eat right before bed, and that helps weight gain, so now that I am not eating as much as night I am losing weight, it would be nice if I were not pregnant and it actually looked like i was losing, But You can defintily tell I am pregnant. Also since I do look bigger, not neccessarly prego maternity clothes helps hide the unwanted bulge and shoe your tummy off like you want it to be shown off. So ty for everyone comments, I feel better.

Hey everyone.. I am have some doubts these last 2 weeks.. I still have not felt any movement. This whole pregnancy has been surreal to me. I have not had and sickness nothing don't feel pregnant and I still am able to do all the things that I have done before. I had a 13 week scan and all was good.. All the 2nd trimester blood work came back normal. To me I think I just look like I have gained weight. not preggo. I go on 8/6 to find out the sex. I hope all is ok with the baby. I and just a worier.

I found out at my ultrasound yesterday that I have placenta previa. Has anyone else experienced this and did you have to have a c-section or did it move by itself?

I felt the baby move. a couple nights ago i couldnt get comfortable and switched from lying on my right to my left real quick and with delayed reaction the baby felt like it rolled across my belly. It was so funny. I could only picture him or her getting tumbled around like clothes in a dryer.

Try wearing some maternity tops...they will make you actually look pregnant instead of just heavy. I'm not a stick and so when I started growing I just looked really heavy. When I wear maternity shirts, people know than that I'm prego.

Teacher-mom and Amhopw 5522 ive lost 10lbs since being pregnant and im a little overweight too and my doctor told me that it might be because im eating healthier now... but little does she know!lol! she said only to worry if i loose a lot in one week, like 5lbs or so. plus everyone at work said this always happened to them, they loose weight and then gain it all back plus some. so im not worried at all. and i dont eat as much as i used to. i eat like 2 meals a day and a snack or two. the rest of the time im sleeping all day. i have my next doc appointment on the 5th of aug so i wonder if i have gained or lost weight because i feel like ive gained 20lbs! lol! ill keep you updated.

I've lost 10 lbs already too. I was overweight so my docs say it is actually great. They just want to make sure I keep down some protein for the baby. I can't wait to find out if mine is a boy or girl! It is driving me crazy.

Amhopw5522, I have lost 8 lbs and not from throwing up either. I am just not as hungry, and get full really fast just like you. I was concerned, but my doc said it was fine and that I didn't need to gain an ounce as long as I was getting all the nutrition I needed and taking prenatals. Mind you though, I was overweight to begin with, so if you are starting out thin, you may need to still gain, but if you are a little heavier, you don't need to worry.

Yesterday I went for my 17 week appt and have not gained one pound, in fact have lost over 10 lbs so far. Baby and uterous is fine but the docter is worried about me. She wants me to make myself eat more. I can not. I get sick if I eat to much. I can only eat a fourth of what I used to eat, and on top of this heat it I have no appetite. Anyone else having this problem.

Well my first office u/s is on the 30th so I can't wait. Hopefully the baby will not have crossed legs! I can't wait to find out what it is so I can go shopping! With my daughter it was a surprise and that was really hard. My office only does ONE u/s because I think the insurance company in Florida only covers 1 scan. My friend in New Jersey has had 4 u/s already! I wish I could have more! Has anyone else had this problem?

Is anyone else feeling really blue? I feel like i'm going crazy because one min. i'm fine the next min. i'm ready to start crying. it doesnt help that i dont feel like my doctor is doing anything for me because every time i have been in all she does is check my blood pressure and ask the same questions she's not giving me any tips or anything.
