Dates and numbers:
There are 162 days until your due date on January 17, 2009.
You are 118 days pregnant.
You are 3.9 months pregnant.
You are in your 4th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: April 12, 2008 to July 11, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: July 12, 2008 to October 24, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: October 25, 2008 to January 17, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

At this point of your pregnancy, your baby is approximately 4.3 to 4.6 inches long and weighs 2.8 ounces. Not only is your baby growing, your uterus and placenta continue to grow to accommodate the growing baby inside of you! Just six weeks ago, your uterus weighed about 5 ounces. This week it now weighs 8.75 ounces! The amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby is increasing and there is about 7.5 ounces of fluid. You will easily be able to feel your uterus approximately three inches below your navel.
This is an important week for testing and you will most likely have an AFP test done. This is a harmless blood test that is done to detect abnormalities such as Down's syndrome or spina bifida. This is a non-invasive test and it carries no risk to your developing baby. Most doctors will offer the test, but in most cases it is completely optional.
Your milk glands start production at this time and this causes some tenderness and swelling in early pregnancy. Your veins will become more visible because there is an increased amount of blood flowing to the breasts.
Five and a half inches tall and only six ounces in weight. The child can grasp with his hands,
kick, or even somersault.
At this time, your baby is holding her head erect. Because her muscles are developing, she can make some faces now. Your baby is able to squint, frown and open its mouth. There is enough calcium in the bones that they will show up on an x-ray. Your baby's fingernails are well formed now and the legs are longer than the arms. Because your baby is moving well now, you may begin to feel his movements! Some women say that the early movements feel like gas bubbles or a slight flutter. If you have not yet felt the baby move, don't worry. Fetal movements are usually felt between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy.
You may feel your heart beating 'louder'. This is because there is a lot more blood in your body than normal. (about 20-25% more)

jenyancey~ Here is what it says about the triple screening test..........Sometimes a mother's AFP or quad screen test comes back as high risk for Trisomy 18. It is important to note that this is not a diagnosis, but a risk because this is a screening test. cowgirlygirl28 -

jenyancey~ I just looked up this website http://www.trisomy18.org/site/PageServer?pagename=parents_diagnosed and it said that triple screening can not diagnose trisomy 18.....go read up.......it might be able to tell you you are at risk but only cvs or amnio can tell you for sure and even then I know alot of women who have gotten negative results only to deliver a very healthy baby.....I have you in my prayers.....jenyancey -

I need help! I just got a call from my doctor with the results of my triple screen and I got a positive for Trisomy 18. The genetic counselor cannot get us in until next Tues. and I am freeking out! I have been reading about it and it is NOT GOOD! Does anyone know the false positive rate? Has anyone been through this? Please help if you know anything about this! Thank you! cowgirlygirl28 -

If the US tech gave you the date based on your measurements that is probably more accurate as we don't always conceive on the 14th day. I know my cycles were crazy 3 weeks, 5 weeks then pregnant so all they had to go by was the ultrasound. Expect the dates to change although unless it is a drastic change they wont change the due date as term is considered 37 weeks.AquaPeach -

But even when I count on the calendar forty weeks from April 11, I come up with Jan 16.cowgirlygirl28 -

AquaPeach~ Remember this year was a leap year so that may be why due date calculators are adding a day eventhough we didn't conceive during leap year month. I would go by your doctor's. AquaPeach -

I am a little confused about this whole due date thing. According to the u/s tech, I am sixteen weeks and six days, which means I'll be seventeen weeks tomorrow. i'm right on time, as my calculations agreed with hers. According to every due date calculator I've tried, my due date is Jan 16, but my doctor says it's the 15th. Who is right? What's up with that? Not that a day here or there really matters to me, but it's a nagging question that's been on my brain for awhile.AquaPeach -

myfirstlittlebabyrobb, a friend of mine had her baby a few months ago. She didn't want to know what it was, but her husband did, so the u/s tech just told her hubby and not her.cowgirlygirl28 -

myfirstlittlebabyrobb~ It wouldn't hurt telling your big boss...He can't do anything to you as far as your job is concerned. It is illegal for them to transfer you or not promote you or fire you due to pregnancy. Mine wanted to transfer me to another job as they didn't think I'd be able to handle it but they won't unless my doctor recommends it.
They also relieved some worry as I started with them in May and don't qualify for FMLA. You have to be employed by the company for a year. Well they said I can take up to 12 weeks after baby is born and still have my job waiting. Plus I can start short term disability in November....Ill get paid 500/wk from then until 8 weeks after baby is born. So by telling them it took away alot of worries.cowgirlygirl28 -

myfirstlittlebabyrobb~ Mine are for sure contractions, confirmed by my doctor. I started labor with my youngest at 21 weeks, oldest at 28 weeks and last pregancy in 2004 ended at 18 weeks...
And the growing pains I have are due to surgery I had in October and February to remove ovarian cysts off both ovaries. They did a c-section cut (without cutting my uterus)cowgirlygirl28 -

tlittlebabyrobb~ With boys they are pretty accurate telling via ultrasound early on. When I was pregnant with my daughter they would never tell me for sure she was a girl as we didn't have 3D ultrasounds then. I had to go elsewhere to confirm gender.myfirstlittlebabyrobb -

Hey, for everyone having pains, it doesn't mean anything unless it continues, without a stop, for like an hour. But if it goes away, its prob just 'growing pains.' I have them. They suck, and my boss always gives me weird looks at work when i flinch cause it hurts.
I haven't told the 'big boss' yet, I'm a little worried to tell him. Several people I work with already know, I just don't know how he will react....
any advice?cowgirlygirl28 -

I wish I could take my progesterone shots sooner. I have been having tons of contractions and that is not good. Doc already knows but there is nothing they can do now, can't start the shots any earlier. I am home from work now and probably today too.MasonsMOMMY -

Bigmuma, I know...it's strange... I ask my friends sooo many ?'s..... they look at me like, 'Haven't you already done this before??' I'm like...'I think so.... just can't recall all that much!!' Lol.
I'm feeling bub move a lot lately... I wonder how long it'll be before hubby can.... it really is like a first pregnancy all over again.
I've been down the shop to grab some pink jelly beans.. just felt like jelly beans for a week or so, lost the battle, but enjoyed the defeat. I went through the jellybean bin in the bulk food section and picked out all the pink ones.

Evanbaby, I didn't think it was harsh. it makes sense, actually.
I will have my big ultrasound in the next few weeks. My doc has scheduled the appointment, but they didn't leave it on my voicemail, so I have to call the office tomorrow to get the date. i have to ask the tech what the sex of the baby is, they don't normally tell you unless you ask, and I don't think they ask you if you want to know because my doc said make sure you tell them you want to know the gender. I wonder how long this ultrasound will take. The 12 week scan took almost four hours of me laying there and then going for a break and coming back. Baby just didn't want to cooperate! Thank goodness I don't have to drink all that water you have to before some ultrasounds. lol I don't know if my bladder could hold that much now anyway!evanbaby -

O.K., my last comment sounded kind of harsh. I didn't mean it that way. I'd like to know too sometimes, but I know I'd be mad at myself for finding out. I just think it's more of a surprise for us.evanbaby -

We are not finding out either. There are too few surprises in life! It's so exciting in the delivery room waiting to hear, 'it's a boy! or girl!' And watching the expressions on everyone's face and my husbands excitement as he walks down the hall and announces it to everyone is inexplainable! Personally, I don't think it would be as fun to walk out and say, 'well, the baby's here'. Just my opinion. Rebekahs-mama -

I would love to have the patience to wait to find out...but my goodness, you have to have A LOT of patience! lol! I guess if you just don't find out in your big ultrasound then you're forced to wait. My doc won't do any extra ultrasounds if the baby doesn't cooperate the first time! But I LOVED being able to call my daughter Rebekah as soon as I knew the last time. It made things so fun! That and buying the clothes ahead of time...clearance racks were my friend at the end of last summer. I had a whole wardrobe for this summer for so much less! I'm hoping to do the same this year if we find out it's a boy. If it's a girl then we're set!!!pasmama2be -

anyone else NOT going to find out what they are having when they have their ultra sound? my hubby wants to know but i do not. I want to be surprised this time. I did not know with my first one and it was really cool when I had her. I have two boys and two girls now my girls are teens and my boys are 1 and 3 so I would like to have one more girl but would not be disappointed if I had a boy they are sooo awesome. I was very young when I had my girls and had to work and did not get to enjoy them the way I have my boys so I would like to do the girl thing one more time.cowgirlygirl28 -

miraclebaby22~ I wouldnt tell them quite yet. It is against the law for them to ask you. Also, be forewarned, you wont qualify for FMLA as you have to be with the company for a year. I started my job in May and I don't qualify for it but the company said they will give me up to 6 mos and hold my job. So keep that in mind. aquapeach -

Miraclebaby, I would not tell them. You don't have to, and they can't discriminate, but I would be cautious even so and keep that knowledge to yourself. I don't believe they have the right to ask about children--whether you have or are having any. But they don't have to give a reason for not hiring you, so it could very well be that you're pregnant and they will have to replace you, at least temporarily, ina few months if you decide to go on maternity leave.Miraclebaby22 -

I jumped ahead one day, but I was wondering if anyone in here knows what I should do about finding a new job. My current job was temporary and then I found out that I was pregnant. Should I tell employers that I am pregnant in advance or wait until after I get the job. I don't want to seem deceptive. Please help if you can.jennywren -

I had my prenatal appointment today, and everything was well. What is worrying me, but doesn't seem to be worrying my dr, is that I'm losing weight. My pre-pregnancy weight was 134 lbs, and I gained 4 pounds during the first ten weeks, then lost three lbs by 12 weeks, and have lost another 2 lbs in the last four weeks. It could be that I am eating a lot healthier, and getting out for walks more,a nd climbing stairs instead of using escalators, but I don't want my body to yoyo like that--I don't think it's healthy. My tummy does look rounder, but then one of the girls at work who has been gone for a few weeks said 'Wow, I can't believe haow much wait you lost.' I'm worried, but my doctor didn't even tell me my weight until I asked, and she was dashing out the door so I didn't have a chance to say anything.
On a brighter note, I will have a u/s in two or three weeks, and hopefully be able to find out what I'm having if baby cooperates.cowgirlygirl28 -
