Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 33 days until your due date on February 09, 2009.
You are 247 days pregnant.
You are 8.1 months pregnant.
You are in your 9th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: May 05, 2008 to August 03, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: August 04, 2008 to November 16, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: November 17, 2008 to February 09, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby now weighs over 5.5 pounds and its crown-to-rump length is approximately 13.2 inches. Your baby's total length is around 20.25 inches at this point. Your uterus is now 6 inches from the bellybutton and the average weight gain is approximately 24 to 29 pounds.

Most pregnant women begin to feel cramped and heavy around this time and often become tired of being pregnant. Some women feel like they do not have to room to breathe or eat. You should eat small, but frequent, meals and rest as often as you can throughout the day. Your cervix will begin to dilate and efface within the next few weeks to make room for your baby's head to emerge from the birth canal. Your cervix needs to be 10 cm dilated in order to deliver your baby.

This week of your pregnancy your baby's fingernails will have definitely reached the tips of his fingers. When your baby is born, his nails may look long and pointy. Your baby is less likely to scratch himself at this point because of the lack of room in the uterus. Fat deposition will still continue and your baby is getting chubbier and rounder. Your baby's shoulders are plump at this point.

The baby begins to develop its own immune system.

Does anyone's hips hurt at night from sleeping on their side? My right hip is killing me. I'm just not used to having extra weight pushed on it. I tried sleeping with a pillow under my hip but that was really uncomfortable.

arcs33- I hate to hear that about your mom..Well I myself too will be on my own because all my family lives in a different state it's just my hubby and I..everything will be okay..I do think that being a mom is somehting that comes naturally..

arcs33 - 33 minutes ago
hi ladies, ive been quiet for sometime been reading your comments but havent have the energy to actually participate. Ive been down with a cold for 2 weeks during the holidays, been sleeping most of the time. Im tired of being pregnant too, cant wait til my baby comes, aside from the normal pains most of us experience now ive been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, its uncomfortable most esp during the night. As for checkup I havent seen my doctor since dec 5,Ill get to see him this friday. Hopefull things are ok with the baby and shes not as big as he thoguht she'll be. Im bummed that my mom will not be able to help out take care of the baby, her visa to visit was denied so I have to do this by myself.Im kinda scared and nervous on whats gonna happen to me and baby. Im sure ill figure things out on my own, hopefully my motherly instinct will kick in.

I am in week 35 now!!! I am so anxious for Levi to be here, but I am going to try to be patient to let him come at his own time when he is ready too! I am in alot of pain and don't know how much more my body can take! My doctor told me to stay off of my feet and dh had pretty much already bed rested me himself! My doctor hasn't checked for dilation yet, but maybe tommorrow! I think he waits until week 37 though. I am just impatient. I have to do more blood work tommorrow to re-check my iron and possibly find out if I need iron shots. And I will get my group b strep test tommorrow too. After that no more testing or anything else, just waiting!

I have a funny story that I would like to share! I was on my home for lunch and thought I was going into labour - holy the pain. So it kind of stopped and then I got a block away from home and there was a water main that was broken, water gushing everywhere. So I'm thinking it's a sign - water breaking! Then I get home and then as I'm on my way back to work my mom calls me and asks if everything is OK, I say yes - why? She's like oh nothing, so then of course I made her tell me, well she said that she had a dream about the baby and thought that maybe I went into labour and didn't call her! OMG - are these signs or what? lol...hope everyone has a good day!

I don't know if I can deal with coming to work much longer myself. My body is seriousluy asking for rest. I have been way too sleep deprived and the symptoms of this last tri are taking their toll. Don't know how much more I can take. I don't think i can keep pushing myself each morning and stay sane. Right now I feel like I will breakdown and cry from forcing myself to stay awake plus the gas pains from what happened last night are so painful. I'm done with being pregnant but i want baby to be ok to come out. Its really playing mind games with me.

Michimee - 3.7 hours ago
I am also very tired and irritable. I'm still working and this is becoming very tiresome. Has anyone else started maturnity. I'm also finding everyone annoying. My husband could help out more thats for sure. My friend that is due 10 days before me is always telling me how tired she is and if it's not one thing its another. Meanwhile she has been off work since the beginning of October. So frustrating!!!

Nikolle - 3.7 hours ago
That is great that they gave you that option. It is better for you and the baby and for the drs in the long run. I have put myself on bedrest, kind of. My toddler has been taking it easier on me, thank God. I think she knows her sister is coming soon. I have had insomnia until about 4am lately and then get up with my toddler at 7am, so when she naps I nap during the day. And when she is having quiet time, so am I. I don't want to have the baby until she is ready and I just need to relax and take it easy now that the holidays are over.

tbahn911 - 4.4 hours ago
babybuka - I've had some contractions within the past 3 weeks and my doctor asked me if I wanted to go on bed rest so I didn't have to go to school. The more my husband and I thought about it, we decided it was the best thing. I work in a difficult school with very difficult children. It's a high stress and frustrating job. So we took her up on the offer and I'm not going back until after maternity leave. The good thing is this is counted as disability and not maternity leave. Once I have the baby, it will switch over to maternity, which I will then get 6 weeks off. It's something to talk to you doctor about. Maybe they can do the same for you. I just know that I would go into labor if I went to school and walked up and down steps and was constantly walking around a room. Plus my school is very loud, so I think I just need some peace and quiet. I was just surprized the doctor let it up to me.

babybuka- i've been crampy and getting alot of BH. not painful ones but they are annoying.

tabathan - 4.8 hours ago
babybuka- I am crampy & it sux.

babybuka - 4.9 hours ago
Is anyone else really crampy lately???

nicole24 - 5.3 hours ago
taylin-n-alyssa- i get pains like that pretty often now. most of mine seem to be before i try to use the bathroom cuz it seems to be gas pains. they are so painful so i really feel for ya! its probably a cross between slight constipation and gas pains. the baby is pushing on all our organs now so its really common but u can always mention it to ur doctor at ur next appt unless it gets worse in the meantime then i'd call. hang in there :o)

waitingonmyheavensentangel - 5.5 hours ago
Taylin-N-Alysa: saw your post. I a from week twelve. I have a daughter already. when I was pregnant with her I was very irregular too, and it was really painful for me to go to the restroom.its normal...I know it sucks though! its because everything is so squished in your stomach..there isn't much room in there anymore! a natural way you could get you r bowels moving is try eating some fiber or or prunes..I know..yum. haha. well hope you feel better hun! and good luck with your labor and delivery!

I just really really need one uneventful week before the baby comes. I'm desperate for it. It's really really starting to get to me. For those of you who believe in God, will you remember me in your bedtime prayers tonight? I know there's a million more important things but I seriously feel like I'm losing it here.

flybear - 5.7 hours ago
I'm so tired and depressed today. I only got like 3hrs of sleep last night. My mouth started hurting the other day a lil and I thought it was just cause I slept on my jaw weird or I clenched my teeth during my nap or something but two days laster it hurts so bad I can't sleep. It's the entire right side of my mouth. It feels exactly like it did when my wisdom teeth came out and there was nerve damage. But I just recently got married and I've been so busy changing my health insurance and making sure that everything is ready when baby comes that I neglected dental insurance so that's not ready for me for a couple more weeks and I was up all last night crying. I just wanted to stay home today cause I'm so tired but I don't get time off or sick leave here and we need my pay for this last month so here I am at work tired as you know what and in pain.

Taylin-N-Alyssa - 5.7 hours ago
This is TMI...but...I need to know if anyone else has had the same issue. I ate normally yesterday. Nothing out of the blue. Because I get so bloated towards the end of the day, I can only pick at food here and there for dinner. I have not been regular and go every couple of days. My system has been very slow. At around 11:30pm, I got this pain, like a cramp. I went to the bathroom and thought my colon would burst. No diarrhea. Just very painful bowel movements. I actually thought i was going into labor. i even got nauseaous from the pain and warding off an axiety attack. I was shaking like a leaf. It caught me off guard. I didn't eat anything that sat wrong. Just that awful lower back pain. My heartburn was in full force as well, as usual. It went on for a while and I was nauseous still. After a couple of rounds of that, my system calmed down but it took a very long time. I hardly slept. i did get hungry but was afraid to eat thinking it was labor and from feeling awful. Didn't even tell hubby until later. He gave me a speech. I tried different positions until the pain started to go away and I was able to lie down on my side and relax. I wonder if its my insides that are massively squished now. It was the most awful bm ever! Baby was fine the whole time though. I did check for bloody show, water leaking, and the usual labor symptoms. This morning I had another BM and it was a bit painful but nothing like last night. I'm eating light today so I won't strain anything else. :-/ Anyone else with this type of experience? is my colon wiggin' out or something? No room? Maybe my body is getting ready.

sally84 - 5.7 hours ago
Hey there everyone, i went to see the midwife yesterday and she said that i'm 4 fifths palpable, so from what I understand im 1/5 engaged is that right? She didnt mention anything about being dialated yet. is anyone fully engaged here yet? x

allrass730 - 6.1 hours ago
tabathan- Thanks for the reply. I was just confused because I've seen several other people on here say that they are a cm dilated and their dr. told them that the baby will probably come any day. Just wondered what might have been different about those situations that had the doctor sounding so sure.

Aussiemum2be - 6.9 hours ago
Yesterday i had to change my undies a couple of times because i kept getting really wet, i thought it was just heavy discharge. Do you think it could have been a bit of my plug? I thought the plug was meant to be kind of chunky but this wasnt. I havent had contractions though. I guess i should just tell my doctor next week yeah?

tabathan - 7.6 hours ago
allrass730- Your dr is being a normal dr. He can't tell there is no way. You can be one centimeter dialated for weeks. Last time I was 3 cent' dialated for 4 weeks! There is no telling when the baby is ready than it will come. 1 c dialted means he can fit about 1 fingertip there, your body is preparing for the babys exit and u may have been feeling contractions or may not hard to tell. It sucks none of this stuff is written in stone! Don't worry:)

tabathan - 7.6 hours ago
sarahgibbons5- sounds like your mucus plug. Funny, yesterday I went and had to change my panties 3 times because they were wet so I was like I know I didn't pee and went to the dr. It ended up being my mucus plug too but it was really runny when previously for me it had been a thick snotty type of discharge. I would still talk to your care giver.

tabathan - 7.6 hours ago
bexandbrad- I had the same thing in my first pregnancy. I pushed for 4.5 hours because my son was backwards. Around the 4th hour we stopped I got on my hands and knees and waited like 20 mins than he turned around and it was right on from there on out!

babysophie09 - 9.1 hours ago
ok quick question.. as anyone felt a ripping sensation up that area? just curious

Hannibaby - 9.2 hours ago
Soon2bmom, i still go to the gym. Ofcourse my training routinge has changed alot. But training gives you endorfines and that makes you happy and feel good about yourself. I go maybe three times a week, and try to get at least two one-hour long walks every week. I feel good! When it comes to looks I sometimes worry that I dress to casual/comfortable at home. And fear I get attached to the sofa watching tv. But then I realize that hey, being so pregnant that I am now I'm allowed!

bexandbrad - 13.1 hours ago
went to midwife this morning and baby is engaged but posterior, i am so gutted i have been doing everything to turn it around, she said it unlikely with head engaged it will turn, so do i bother keep trying? is anyone is this situation?

sarahgibbons5 - 16.7 hours ago
Hi everyone! I am 35 weeks and I just went to change my underwear and had white discharge..not a huge amount or anything...Then when I was changing, I started leaking a little liquid down my leg and I felt all wet. Sorry if TMI..What could this mean? Do I wait to see if I leak more or do I call the dr? I have only had a few contractions today nothing consistant though. Any advice would be sooooo great thanks everyone! :) BTW, the liquid down my leg was clear and thin...not like the white discharge..

allrass730 - 16.8 hours ago
I went to the dr today and he said I was a little effaced (he didn't say how much), 1 cm dilated and the baby is head down. I asked if that raised the chances of her being here before Feb 5th and he said 'it's too soon to tell'. I asked him at 33 wks what position she was in and he said 'it's too soon to tell'. He won't ever give an opinion! Like he's affraid I'm going to sue if he's off by a little. It's really frustrating because I know nothing is for sure and I'm not looking for definite answers just something to go by and he wont tell me anything. So what does it meant to be dilated to 1 cm? I realize that means the cervix is opening and effacement means it's thinning out but does being dilated mean that what I've been feeling actually are contractions (bc he wasn't concerned when I said I thought I had been having them but that was prior to the exam)?

destinyxxx13 - 17.4 hours ago
Goodbye week 35!! 4 more to go. Goodluck everyone!!

jamieandrea - 18.4 hours ago
Just got back from Dr. today he says she'll be here in the next couple weeks, and I'm a centimeter dilated... YAYYY!

babybuka~~ im with you on this one to... me and my hubby will go out and even when i do get all made up and do my hair... i still feel like i look like crap alllll the time!!! and i feel bad as well bc i know that it is the baby but i still feel like i look like crap... so i know where your coming from.... i uses to run a mile 3-4 times a week as well as lift weights... and when i got prego i just didnt feel comfortable going to the gym anymore...

jenyancey - 19.4 hours ago
hey ladies, just got back from the doctor today and I'm 2 cm dilated, 50% effaced, and the baby is measuring 3 weeks bigger than the 'norm'. I've been on strict bed rest for 3 weeks now, and have been in some rare pre-labor for 9 days with hard contractions every 10-20 min for 9 days now. I am so ready for the pain to end. My doctor is thinking of inducing me next weeks and I really hope so. Anyone else going through a similar situation?

finkleberry - 19.5 hours ago
babybuka-I'm crap at exercising even when I'm not pregnant. I commend anyone who can still work out this far along. I think a lot of the 'blobish' feeling is the water weight more so than the belly so don't feel bad. There are some really good pregnancy workout videos, and you should exercise if you can it will make you feel a so much better. I've been making sure I get extra time for pruning and make-up. I went ahead and died my hair last week. There are natural henna hair dyes that you can get from the health food shop. I've just discovered how awesome swimming is on my joints. I can stretch out in the pool without all the gravity. Whatever means you end up finding try not to push yourself because you feel fat. Baby will be out sooner than you know and everything will go back to normal.

GiftFromGod - 19.6 hours ago
hello mommies to be, this might sound weid but I really don't want a baby shower but when I told my mom she screamed and said I always do things diffirently from others. Oh well! I've decided to go ahead with one as my friend wants host it so bad. I know its not about gifts but if for the ladies who want a certain thing you can just have people bring you gift cards only so you can buy the things your self. I did that for my wedding ( monetary gifts or gift cards) and will be doing the same for my baby shower as hubby and I already have all we need, used and new. i don't have anything wrong with accepting used things except cloths or baby bottle. We received a stroller and two car sits, swing and rocking chair from a friend of ours who used it for her baby.I was so thankful as we get to spend the money on something else.

babybuka - 20 hours ago
tabathan- I try not to let what other people say effect the way that I feel but I just have been getting a lot of rude comments lately and it is taking a toll. I think I am just having one of those days and maybe I will feel better and go tomorrow.

tabathan - 20.1 hours ago
babybuka- I don't know why you can't go to the gym if that's what you want. I go, I ran a mile and lifted weights on Saturday. I admitt I do a lot less than I used to but I do keep up with a light workout and love it. I was supposed to go today, but I haven't felt well:( I wouldn't let other peoples reactions rule your decisions.

babybuka - 20.6 hours ago
Oh yeah one more thing! I called my mom to see if she would walk with me and she said 'sure i'll go!' and when i said 'ok!' she laughed and said 'Im just kidding.' Thats just mean!!! I know I am sooo overly sensitive right now and I know I am over reacting but come on...dont tease a pregnant woman, its just not nice! :(

babybuka - 20.7 hours ago
I just need to ask-does anyone else feel totally not attractive in the tiniest bit? I was sitting on the bed talking to my husband and I glanced in the mirror and wanted to cry. I hate feeling that way because I love my belly because I know my baby is in there. But at the same time it is so frustrating and I am really upset right now. I want to go to the gym to walk around the track or on the treadmill but I feel like people will look at me funny so I wont go. My hubby is out playing racqetball right now and I am just jealous because even if I wanted to get into shape I couldnt. I dont necessarily want to do a work out or anything but I want to feel like Im not just a blob getting bigger by the day. I dont like walking by myself and I have no one to go with. My hubby just left for the gym and now I feel like I want to cry. That isnt normal...I shouldnt want to cry because he is going to work out. Thats so stupid!!! But all I want to do right now is cry and I really just dont get it. I know its the hormones but AHHH THIS SUCKS!

babybuka - 20.8 hours ago
soon2Bmum- Thanks for responding--I cant do the whole half day thing but thats nice that is he able to. I just finished all of my planning but then I realized that there is all the other little things and I just want to be done with it!!! AHHH lol

joshsbaby - 21 hours ago
I went to Labor and Delivery and they tried to stop it through IVs and through meds, but nothing worked. I think that they just stopped me from dilating or something because my contractions were the same, but I stopped dilating after they gave me the meds.

soon2Bmum - 21.5 hours ago
babybuka~~ my husband is chemistry, earth science, and freshman science teacher... and he gets to take the 6 weeks off as well... i know you probably wont be able to do this bc your the mother... but he is going to be taking off full days for the first week and a half and then he will be doing half days rest of the time and then he gets an extra couple weeks out of it as well... but he is stressing out about the lesson planning... and hoping that whatever sub they get will be able to do all of it... good luck!!!

soon2Bmum - 21.6 hours ago
sofia~~ i agree...i went into walmart the other day... and one of the greeters looked at my belly and asked when i was due... and i told her feb 7th... and she looked at me and kinda looked like she frowned and then told me... 'honey... the last month is absolutly the worst!!' i was like well thank you wench... i dont even know you and you have the nerve to say that to me... you could have atleast said almost there... or just a month left good luch... but noooo... tell me that im in the worst of it all know... i just dont know sometimes

babybuka - 22 hours ago
I dont know what everyone else does for work but I am finding that getting ready to take maternity leave is a very daunting task and it is getting annoying lol I am a teacher so I have to make sure my lesson plans are done and everything like that. Well I have my plans all completed but there are so many little things that need to be planned as well and I am just soooo overwhelmed!!! I was just wondering if anyone else feels this way and how they are dealing with it...

FlyBear - 22.8 hours ago
I feel like crying today cause my mouth hurts. It's so weird. I took a nap yesterday for like 30 mins and when I woke up my gums, top and bottom, on the right side of my mouth were throbbing and hurting. I thought it would go away but it's hurt all day today too. I think maybe I was clenching down on my teeth while I was sleeping cause I've been known to do that. I'll take a tylenol tonight but if it doesn't go away in the next few days I'm going to have to try and go to the dentist I guess. It's so frustrating. I just want to make it through the next few weeks and give birth with no more interruptions. I take pretty good care of my teeth and don't typically have problems so this is weird. I'm hoping it's nothing cause I recently got married and changed insurance and all and have already been having a hard enough time getting everything worked out for the baby's delivery and I haven't even had time to look over the dental insurance yet. Uggg...

babybuka - 23.1 hours ago
I was just reading what everyone else was saying about being a B**** and things like that I am right there with you. Today was the first day back to work after 2 weeks of being off (Im a teacher). I LOVE my job but everyone there irritated me today! At the end of the day I actually looked at two of my students and said 'Do you really think i am that stupid?! Do your work!' lol I am never like that! And if one more person tells me how big I am or anything like that I am going to smack them. I know I am big! I can feel that!! I am having a baby....do they expect me to get smaller?! AHHH It's sooo annoying!!! And as for the whole stroller thing people were talking about my MIL told us that we could pick out anything we wanted and she would buy it for us. Well we did and she said ok. Then a week later she was complaining that it was too expensive (she doesnt like spending money on certain things....but shell spend 200 on cigarettes alone...dont get me started!!) Anyways, she asked us to look around and see if we could find anything else. Well I did just to humor her but we didnt want anything else...that is the one we wanted becuase we liked it and it had good reviews. She eventually bought it for us but not without complaining the whole time. I hate that! Dont offer to do something and then complain about it. There are times throughout the day when i just want to cry and i dont even know why! My baby is head down right now which is great but he is putting so much pressure on my hip that it makes me want to cry and I cant get comfortable becuase i feel like I am going to smoosh him. I cant wait to meet him...I really want him to come early because I dont think I can handle him being late!!!

argyllmac - 23.1 hours ago
joshsbaby- if you are still in so much pain that you can't bear it, w/ regular contractions you should go back into L&D. They either need to give you meds to stop the contractions or something to help dilate your cervix so you can deliver. It is really easy for L&D staff to be dismissive of first time moms (especially if you are young)and think you are exagerating your pain, thus ignoring you. You may need to be firm. Remember who's pregnancy this is and who will deliver this baby:YOU! Not the doc, not the nurses! They are only there to help YOU! I am worried you will tire yourself out, and be unable to maintain your energy if your labor does start progressing. At the very least, the docs should be interested in stopping your contractions or give you something to help you relax and get a little rest.

joshsbaby - 23.5 hours ago
I don't know if I'll last that long either way. I'm planning to get induced at 39.2 weeks..But last night I spent 4-5 hours in Labor and Delivery trying to stop contractions that were 4.5 to 5 minutes apart, and the nurse failed. But since I wasn't dilating at the rate the on-call doctor wanted they sent me home and said to come back if they get worse or I feel stuff coming down my leg. Right now I can barely move because I have severe menstrual cramping like and I've been contracting all day. My lower back is in the worse pain- I woke up last night bawling because it hurt so bad. I honestly think that the doctor has my due date way off (mostly because we could never determine when the exact first day of my last period really was because I didn't have my period for three months before I found out I was pregnant, but then when I found out, I was told I was only like 4-5 weeks along. So I don't know anymore.
