Dates and numbers:
There are 38 days until your due date on February 14, 2009.
You are 242 days pregnant.
You are 7.9 months pregnant.
You are in your 8th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: May 10, 2008 to August 08, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: August 09, 2008 to November 21, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: November 22, 2008 to February 14, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby's crown-to-rump length this week is approximately 12.8 inches and the total length is around 19.8 inches at this time. Your baby now weighs almost 5 pounds. From your bellybutton, it is about 5.6 inches to the top of your uterus. Measurements of your uterus vary from woman to woman. You should not worry if you do not measure the exact same as your pregnancy friends or family members as long as you are growing appropriately. When your uterus grows and gets larger at an appropriate rate, it shows that your baby is growing well inside of your uterus.

Growth of the womb during pregnancyBraxton-Hicks contractions are going to get stronger and more frequent within the next few weeks. Braxton-Hicks contractions feel like a tightening at the top of your uterus that spreads down and then relaxes. Many women mistake Braxton-Hicks contractions for true labor contractions, but this is rarely the case. Braxton-Hicks contractions will diminish if you get up and walk around and they should not be painful.

Your baby's hair continues to get longer and thicker. Your baby's hair color probably is not going to be the same color from birth onwards, so you should expect it to change in color. Your baby is shedding most of lanugo, but the amount of vernix caseosa is increasing. Your baby is taking calcium from you to lay down lots of bone. Continue to take your prenatal vitamins and drink milk to ensure that you receive enough calcium.

If you were to deliver your baby now, it would probably be called a pre-term infant instead of premature. The only difference is in the maturity, particularly lung maturity. A pre-term baby is less likely to need intensive care because its lungs have developed. Doctors can test lung maturity with an amniocentesis that checks levels of surfactant.

The baby now rests on your uterus and is no longer floating.

Fingernails now reach over the finger tips and the baby can scratch itself.

Hey Ladies....I just found this website that has a checklist on what to pack in your hospital bag (it's pretty good) and I will be taking it home with me tonight so I can add stuff to my bag HaHa - http://www.planningfamily.com/babies/checklists/planningfamily_hospitalbag.pdf

mandyw0213 - 1.3 hours ago
Megan, I don't know for sure, but it sounds like that may have been your mucous plug. I would definetly call your doctor to be sure! :)

jcjm - 1.4 hours ago
I'm excited, I have a sonogram tomorrow to see how my baby boy is doing. Size and what not. I have GD so they want to make sure he's not to big. Hopefully I'll have some answers as to my delivery options. My hospital bag is almost packed also. I'm just so excited and scared at the same time. Any one else a first timer with GD? I'm just wondering what options we have if the baby is getting to big.

megan5579 - 2.9 hours ago
Hey everyone... okay this might be TMI, but today when I went to the bathroom I stood up and looked into the toilet before I flushed (does anyone else do that?? ha) - and I saw some pinkish mucus floating around that was a little smaller than a dime in diameter. Could this be my bloody show???? Or my mucus plug, or whatever you call it?

mommyeva - 3.8 hours ago
And for you girls feeling hairy and can't do anything about it, I bought a 'personal trimmer' and my DH used it a couple days ago on my 'nether regions'. Did a pretty good job! And being the trimmer, there's no risk of nicks! He did way better than I can not being able to see!

mommyeva - 3.9 hours ago
Just got home from the hospital. My dr sent me after my appointment today. My measurements haven't changed in 2 weeks and there's protein in my urine. The non stress test went fine and I have another biophysical profile tomorrow morning. I'll be 36 weeks in 9 days. The doc thinks I'll be having this baby earlier than we thought! Aaah! I just hope she can wait until after my shower on sunday and my birthday on the 19th!

persia - 4.5 hours ago
Shez05, I would take as wide a variety of music as possible, as you don't know what you will be in the mood for. My first baby I couldn't stand any music at all and the second baby I didn't bother taking anything at all. Obamamama, I know this is a bit late to your question, but maybe it will help someone. The way I tell where its head is by shining a torch on my tummy. when my baby was breech it would kick and squirm when I shone a torch just below my left side rib cage, and now that it is down I have to shine the torch well below my belly button to get a reaction. My 2 little boys think it is a fun game to play with the baby, I just hope it isn't getting too annoyed!

GiftFromGod - LoL I tired that last week as well and I thought I will start with a little trim and then a shave but it was so hard cause I couldnt see - I was trying not to cry...I came out of the shower all sad and hubby asked what was wrong and when I told him...he first got upset for me trying to do it on my own at this stage and laughed cos he thought it was funny LOL - Now that I think about it ...it is, so he said he would help me next time but thats kinda scary 2! LOL

GiftFromGod - 4.9 hours ago
Hello everyone, okay, so I went for a doc's appt today. She did not check to see the position of the baby but sent me to have an ultrasound for Thursday. I'm happy that I get to see my baby but aren't doc's to know the position by feeling on your stomach? I don't think my lit pumpkin has turned yet cos I still feel the little legs down below instead of up above. I just started having heartburns and it hurts. I woke up last nite crying and told hubby that both babies are kicking me lol (guess I meant the baby was kicking me on both sides) hubby was concerned and asked if I knew something he didn't ( no hubby, its not twins. I must have been sleep talking) This might me TMI but I tried to shave down there and couldn't becos I could not see past my belly button. I was so upset and started to cry. Hubby said he would help but God knows I'm scared to let him. I would have to. Hope everyone is doing okay.

Hi all! I was just reading a couple of posts in the TTC forum, and ya know - for all the complaining I do about the woes of pregnancy, I sure am glad that I'm able to conceive - and I'm so happy that all of you are able to as well! I know we're all getting a bit uncomfortable during this last stretch - and if you find yourself getting overly frustrated at waiting these last few weeks, or at feeling crappy, just go read a few posts from the ladies trying to get pregnant. It definitely gave me perspective! I'm so glad I feel crappy and pregnant! haha

finkleberry - 6.7 hours ago
I'm going into hospital to check on bub seeing as he hasn't been moving much since the fit the other night. wish me luck!

mandyw0213 - 7.1 hours ago
Well, work doesn't seem to be getting any better. New blog. The contractions have really slowed down, so I plan on calling my doctor if they start back up again. Thank you all for your advice.

heathermarieprego - 8.4 hours ago
Thanks to all of the positive meassages. I called my dr to see what he thinks is best for me and the baby and since I have already had pre term labor he doesn't want me going at all. He told me that if I do I am risking a lot...my water breaking, more contractions and not being able to get back before something happens. I am going to just have to deal with not being able to go and hopefully I can talk to my cousin before he goes in. Mandyw0213--I would call the dr if I were you. It is better to be safe than sorry. My dr has told me that if I have 5-6 contractions in an hour after laying down to come in. I know how it feels to not to want to go in for nothing but sometimes its something and not nothing. xxxx to everyone!!

Pregowith3 - 8.6 hours ago
Went to dr. today. had ultrasound done on her heart and everything has cleared up. i am havin contractions about ten to twelve minutes apart but no dilation yet. she is head down and in position. last week when they checked me they could push baby's head up and down. today they couldn't so i guess her head is engaged. luckily the dr was able to feel my uterus contracting. i figured once i got there everything i'd been feelin would stop. but it didn't. my cervix is still kinda high due to me having a posterior cervix but the dr said that if contractions keep up and i do go into labor after 35 weeks he won't stop them cause with my cervix opening it could cause an infection. so we'll see how it goes in five more days and see what my little one decides to do. he doesn't think i'm in the early stages of labor by any means but he thinks i'm getting close..we go back next wednesday.

Nikolle - 9.9 hours ago
mandyw0213 - I woudl call the dr just in case, Real contractions won't go away, like you are saying. And yes sex can triger labor, but not if the baby isn't ready to come out anyway. All these old wives tales don't work as well as we would like sometimes. Keep us posted :)

MnGirl - 9.9 hours ago
Alirght I think I am doing this correctly. Just some info on me: This will be my 3rd child. I already have a boy and girl and am expecting another girl. Is everyone on their first child or have others? And can we comment on anybodys messages? Please Help?

obamamama - 12.9 hours ago
mandyw- thanks girl! I just got home from the doctor and she has dropped and is head down, back towards me! so yayyy! heathermarie- happy birthday sweetheart. lots of rough news. :( sorry about everything going on. you're in my thoughts and prayers :)

TanyaT - 13 hours ago
Mandyw0213, I would call the Dr.---even it if it is just to put you at ease. I have been having a ton of contractions over the past few weeks ...not real consistant--but they are getting to hurt sometimes. I am on partial bedrest now...anyway--it is better to have a false alarm than to not know what is going on:)

mandyw0213 - 13.3 hours ago
P.S. the baby is moving ALOT in between contractions so there is comfort in that.

mandyw0213 - 13.3 hours ago
Okay, I have been having some pretty regular contractions (at least 3 or more every hour) since yesterday. TMI, but they began after I had sex early in the afternoon. I know that some people have said that sex can trigger labor, but the doctor told me it would be fine. But the contractions don't stop, even when I took a bath and went to bed. Adam wants me to call the doctor so I can at least stop worrying...but I hate to go all the way up there when there is nothing wrong. Should I call anyway or are there more signs I can look for?

mandyw0213 - 13.3 hours ago
Happy birthday anyway heathermarie. I am really, really sorry things are so hard right now. This should be a good time for all of us. I would have a serious discussion with your doctor about the situation with your cousin. Tell him that you are not sure you have a choice and if you DO travel, what he recommends. I hope things get better for you soon and that your cousin gets better.

Nikolle - 13.6 hours ago
finkleberry-My baby does the same thing and it frekas me out too. I am sure what we feel is very different than how they are moving. It could be a combination of things. It doesn't hurt to ask the dr about it, but I just think that everything has shown that she is healthy so I am not worried about it.

heathermarieprego - 14.4 hours ago
Hey ladies...I am in between a rock and a hard spot. Yesterday afternoon my mom called and told me some really bad news. My close cousin was diagnosed with a brain tumor that is a very aggresive cancer. They are going to do sergery next monday but with the tumor being so deep they give him only a 25% chance of coming out of the sergery. He wants to have the sergery beacuse if they do get some of it out he will not be in so much pain and he has more time with the family. Also 2 of my good friends from high school killed themselves in the past 2 days. My dr has already told me that I was not to travel 30 mins away from the hospital afte 32 weeks and I am still kinda on bed rest. I know that I can't be there for my friends families but that doesn't make it any better for me. I sent flowers and called but I still feel like I need to say good bye. And if anything happens to my cousin next week I am not sure I can stop myself from traveling 3 hours away for the funeral. My mom and my grandmother have both told me that everyone will understand that I have to take care of myself but we are such a close family that I know I am needed and I need to see him. Any one have any advice...I could really use some right now. Oh and by the way today is my b-day.

juquanda601 - 20.6 hours ago
nikolle- I am the same way. I prefer to stay trimmed well not trimmed but completly BALD in that area and finding it more difficult to do that these days.. My family find it hilarious for me to actual take the time out to even try to shave my entire body while being this far along.. I like to tell them I was bald when I can into this world and I'm going to be bald when I deliver.. No need in going into labor having people all between your legs and you're not shaped up down there..lol

juquanda601 - 21 hours ago
WHOOOOHOOO WEEK 34 ONLY 6 MORE TO GO.. WOW THE TIME IS FLYING BY SO FAST NOW.. CAN'T BELIEVE WE ONLY HAVE A LITTLE OVER A MONTH BEFORE OUR BABIES ARE BORN.. I'M SO EXCITED AND ANXIOUS TO BECOME A MOTHER.. ANY ADVICE THOUGH FOR A FIRST-TIME MOM?? AND I WANT TO PACK MY HOSPITAL BAG WHAT ALL DO YOU MOTHERS THAT'S BEEN THERE WOULD SUGGEST TO PACK??

CairnsBasedBliss - 23.2 hours ago
Finkle, I would be going to see someone just to make sure everything is ok. My guess is that it should be fine but if anything is wrong they can deliver babies healthy at this age anyway and its better to be safe than sorry. I hope everything is fine.

Aussiemum2be - 23.9 hours ago
finkle theres no such thing as being paranoid when it comes to the health of your bubba. mothers instinct is a powerful thing so if you are concerned then go to the hospita, better to be safe than sorry. and dont not go because you are worried about being turned away or laughed at because that will not happen. i hope everything is ok :)

finkleberry - 1 days ago
Has anyone experienced this? Last night as per usual, baby was squirming and wriggling all night and not letting me get comfortable. I was half awake and just dozing off when I felt what felt like baby having a violent seizure. I had never felt movement like this before. And after he stopped dead. It was enough to wake me right up and I couldn't get him to move again for another 15 minutes. I put the doppler on and eventually I got some movement. The heartbeat seemed to go quite slowly. My midwife did a check yesterday and was a bit concerned about the heartbeat slowing down so much but she said it goes back up when he moves. I don't know whether to get checked at the hospital or if i'm just being paranoid.

mandyw0213 - 1 days ago
obamamama- There is really no way to tell except to ask the doctor or to see with an ultrasound. We can always make guesses, but are lucky if they come out to be correct! I asked my doctor at my last appt and he said that he will know for sure at my next appt when he examines my cervix and stuff. :)

joshsbaby - 1 days ago
so I just got home from the hospital...because I felt like I peed my pants...so I went in thinking my water broke...Apparently I am having contractions five minutes apart, but they can't stop them (they tried)...but I am still a finger tip dilated (1 cm). So they sent me home after four hours. I am hurting the contractions are still occuring, but I'm not dilating 1 cm an hour like the doc wants..so they said to come back if I am walking around and I have stuff running down my leg.

obamamama - 1 days ago
I was wondering if anyone knows how to tell what position your baby is in?

sleepyem - 1 days ago
Yay baby is head down and engaged! I am so happy! Now it just has to stay there!! I feel great at the moment, I am sleeping well for the first time this whole pregnancy, I don't feel that huge, no real complaints... I have heartfelt sympathy for everyone who is having more trouble... hang in there!

Nikolle - 1 days ago
The lady who works in the nursery at our church gave birth to a still born on Mon. It really made me feel guilty for complaining. She knew the baby was not going to live, but to have carried and felt the baby move the whole time and be induced, only to give birth like that is so sad. I thank God every day for giving me another child and I pray that everyone has a healthy baby.

talks1nmaths - 1 days ago
Emily-- I give you a lot of credit, and I try to keep my complaining to a minimum when I think about people who have pregnancies ten times harder than mine... and then the women who aren't able to get pregnant at all! Really makes me think twice when I'll likely have another 7-8lb baby and there are women out there carrying 10+ lb babies, twins, triplets, etc... or who have just had particularly difficult pregnancies. I am an identical twin, and my mother ended up carrying us to 37 wks 1 day, and we were both well over 6 lb (me- 6 lb 3 oz and my sister 6 lb 8 oz)... cannot even IMAGINE going through something like that!!!

marcardb - 1 days ago
34 weeks Yay! 4 more to go!

nikkipearl - 1 days ago
I got my first stretchmark :C!! Its very small but purple...i hope i dont get more!

mommyeva - 1 days ago
Emily - I give you lots of credit for carrying twins! It is twice the job! And to still be pregnant at 34 weeks! Thats awesome! Your babies definiely have abetter chance the onger they stay in! Hang in there! And I`ll think of you the next time I feel like complaining!

EmilyorMLE - 1 days ago
To all you ladies who are so uncomfortable, it could be worse! I'm 34 weeks pregnant with twins and my uterus is measuring 45 weeks! I can't tell you how many stares I get and people stopping me saying 'Oh, you poor dear, when were you due, yesterday?' I am so horribly uncomfortable that it's not even funny. I woke my husband up in tears last night. And let's not even talk about how swollen I am. I haven't been able to put my rings on since week 20. I'm miserable. but I think about how much better my babies are doing INSIDE of me and how many people aren't able to have babies and feel extrememly blessed. Hang in there everyone, we'll make it! oh, and there are some pics on my page of how huge I am if you're curious.

Nikolle - 1 days ago
Yes it is swollen down there and hard to trim. I have learned that just a close trim works best for me..less irratation and easier to take care of. I have yet to ask my hubby to help. I just never ask for help with anything usually. So I have my trimmer and a mirror and hang over the toilet, hahaa. I am sure it looks very entertaining and very uneven. But I feel better none the less.

chrissy0423 - 1 days ago
My hubby helps me trim up also. I can't stand when it gets long... The last time I tried on my own, I was standing in front of the mirror over a towel, and trying to do it by just the reflection. Not that easy. lol

chrissy0423 - 1 days ago
Pregowith3 - a few weeks ago, I noticed I felt swollen, so my doctor checked, just to be safe, and said it was because of hormones.

mommyeva - 1 days ago
lmao! I had myt DH help me out with that too last night! There's no way I can do it on my own. Not only can I not reach very well, but to do it blind aswell? Thank God my hubby is a trooper!

sleepyem - 1 days ago
sorry for tmi but I had a go at shaving my pubes last night - so difficult lol!!! DH had to trim them first for me (what a great guy!) and pregowith3 he said it's all enlarged and way darker down there...

Pregowith3 - 2 days ago
Has anyone noticed that their down there region is swollen?

chases-momma - 2 days ago
I am very ready to not be prego anymore, but I also really want to keep this baby in until 37 weeks. I go in on Tues to get checked, last Wed I was 3 cm and 70%effaced and spent some time in the hospital monitoring. I am still soooo crampy, I feel like I have a full on period even though Ive been on bedrest since Wed. The babies will come ladies...but it's better they stay in another 2 weeks!

tabathan - 2 days ago
heathermarieprego- Sorry your feeling so lousy. My hips hurt with every step they feel like they are going to pop out but man it don't hurt bad enough to make me cry, I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling. With my first son I had every miserable physical symptom- my feet swelled up so bad it was hard to step I measured 6+ weeks ahead and people made rude comments too- so I know how annoying it can be. I hope it gets easier:) If not your little one will be here soon enough.

waitin4mylil1 - 2 days ago
heathermarieprego-I SO KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL! I AM SO MISERABLE AND I TRY TO KEEP IT TO MYSELF CUZ DON'T WANT MY MAN TO GET ANNOYED. IT SO SUX!!! I remember with my son I was measuring ahead of time and got this really bad rash allover my body n it was cuz he was too big and he was pushin on my liver which was causing the rash n they wouldn't do anything bout it. They didn't even care to induce me, I was in so much pain. He actually even came a week late!

heathermarieprego - 2 days ago
I too am so ready to have my baby. I am really annoyed at my dr beacuse when I went in to the er last week the dr I saw was telling me that if she was my dr that she would prolly up my c-section 2 weeks. I am measuering 38 weeks...and my baby was 5lbs 14oz at 33 weeks. They put me on bed rest for a few days but any time I walk for more than 10 mins I start to have contractions and I hurt so bad in my hips!!! I HAD to do my grocery shopping a yesterday and I litterly cried in Walmart beacuse I was in so much pain. To top things off EVERYONE comments on how big and low I am...comments like 'Oh my gosh your baby is going to just fall out' or 'Oh wow your ready to pop that baby out' I'm like NO...I have 4 more weeks till my c-section!! I am so ready...I can't sleep and that makes me emotional...I have cried so much this past week. I also itch so bad...my dr is running some test on my liver for that condition women get while there pregnant. Sorry for fussing...but I know my hubby is tired of hearing it...and I know that some of you are feeling the same way! 25 days left till my c-section
