Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 40 days until your due date on February 16, 2009.
You are 240 days pregnant.
You are 7.9 months pregnant.
You are in your 8th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: May 13, 2008 to August 11, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: August 12, 2008 to November 23, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: November 24, 2008 to February 16, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby's crown-to-rump length this week is approximately 12.8 inches and the total length is around 19.8 inches at this time. Your baby now weighs almost 5 pounds. From your bellybutton, it is about 5.6 inches to the top of your uterus. Measurements of your uterus vary from woman to woman. You should not worry if you do not measure the exact same as your pregnancy friends or family members as long as you are growing appropriately. When your uterus grows and gets larger at an appropriate rate, it shows that your baby is growing well inside of your uterus.

Growth of the womb during pregnancyBraxton-Hicks contractions are going to get stronger and more frequent within the next few weeks. Braxton-Hicks contractions feel like a tightening at the top of your uterus that spreads down and then relaxes. Many women mistake Braxton-Hicks contractions for true labor contractions, but this is rarely the case. Braxton-Hicks contractions will diminish if you get up and walk around and they should not be painful.

Your baby's hair continues to get longer and thicker. Your baby's hair color probably is not going to be the same color from birth onwards, so you should expect it to change in color. Your baby is shedding most of lanugo, but the amount of vernix caseosa is increasing. Your baby is taking calcium from you to lay down lots of bone. Continue to take your prenatal vitamins and drink milk to ensure that you receive enough calcium.

If you were to deliver your baby now, it would probably be called a pre-term infant instead of premature. The only difference is in the maturity, particularly lung maturity. A pre-term baby is less likely to need intensive care because its lungs have developed. Doctors can test lung maturity with an amniocentesis that checks levels of surfactant.

The baby now rests on your uterus and is no longer floating.

Fingernails now reach over the finger tips and the baby can scratch itself.

it turns out that i am suppose to be in 36 weeks and 2days... they changed my due date to the 3rd of feb...

annied - 14 minutes ago
I am in week 30 but was told yesterday that my baby is transverse and I may need a c section. I am glad I looked ahead and found some hope that she may turn!!

Nikolle - 18 minutes ago
My dr says that the baby's postion can change dramatically until the last 3 weeks so there was no point in him checking me at mt last appt. He will start checking in two weeks, when I am almost 37 weeks. He also isn't doing internal checks until then. He says he assumes she will be head down like my first was and he told me that the 2nd labor usually goes quicker. He says if my water breaks or I get contractions 9-10 min apart increasing in intensity for over an hour to head in to the hospital. Yeah we are getting close ladies :)

aussie-in-vn - 18 minutes ago
pregowith3 - Getting checked can start of your labour. with my second they did a check and that afternoon cramping and contractions started. Pregotweets- it's good that you feel like you have a bowling ball between your legs, means being is in position ready to come!! Won't be long now!!

amyeliz - 1 hours ago
pregalicious: my first was head down until somewhere between 39-41 weeks. She went from head down to breech that late in my pregnancy. It is possible for your little one to turn. Don't be depressed. If you have to have a c-section, its not as bad as some people claim. I was fine within a couple days of coming home from the hospital. Hang in there.

megan5579 - 1.4 hours ago
Only 3% of babies fail to get into the head down position - so the odds are on your side, pregalicious! Keep your chin up! :)

aimey - 1.4 hours ago
am so glad that the time is getting here i was so scared because i had to go again to the hospital but everything is okay. my whole body hurts and mostly my belly i could hardly touch it. i feel people think i am over reacting because i did not feel this with my first child. but is bothers me so much that i have times i could hardly touch my stomach..

chrissy0423 - 1.7 hours ago
pregalicious-mine was still transverse about a week or so ago, but I'm pretty sure he flipped head down... so it could happen! Don't give up hope!

pregalicious mami - 1.8 hours ago
I'll be 35 wks 2mro and went for my appt 2day and found out my baby is transverse (sideways). I am so depressed. The dtr said she could still turn but I don't believe him...this is my 3rd and I was hoping to have her a little early but I guess not...I am so depressed.

I am off to week 35 now! I am getting so excited and anxious!!

Pregowith3 - 2.3 hours ago
has anyone else felt really heavy around their hips and pelvic bone. today i feel extremely heavy and bloated like in my pelvic area. when i stand up it feels worse. i know my lil one dropped down and is head down. could she have dropped behind my pelvic bone over night..we have been havin contractions for about a week now but ten to twelve minutes apart. today i've noticed more cramping and contractions more intense but still ten to twelve minutes apart. the dr checked me yesterday and i was not dilated. but i've been crampier since then as well. is this normal? to cramp worse after being checked? i thought i'd die when he checked me. it hurt so bad and it usual doesn't. can anyone explain that as well?

PregoTweets - 3.5 hours ago
Went to the doctor yesterday. I won't be having an ultrasound any time soon I don't think since they didn't schedule one. The last appointment my doctor checked (felt my stomach) and said the baby was head down. He wasn't there this week so i saw one of his partners and he too said that there's definitely a head down there. I can actually feel it down between my legs. I can't wait for my doc to be back so we can schedule an ultrasound. I'm excited that my little girl is staying in position. Hopefully she's not too comfortable to the point that she doesn't want to come out.

mommyeva - 3.6 hours ago
I've started throwing up again too lately! I wonder if it has something to do with end of pregancy. I did hae hyperemesis gravidarum, but no puking for the last couple months or so. Weird!

chrissy0423 - 4.3 hours ago
obamamama-Are you taking them on an empty stomach? Maybe try eating some toast or drinking milk with the vitamin. I'm not sure if it will help, because I've always taken mine at night and been fine, but it might be worth a try.

Nikolle - 4.9 hours ago
proudmommy84 - I would call your dr to get something stronger. Tylenol doesn't work for my migraines. You need something stronger.

proudmommy84 - 4.9 hours ago
Hey got a question and would like anything. I have had this mirgraine for 2 days going 3 days and nothing helps. I tried soaking my head in bath tub, tyenol, and cold/hot rags. I'm just done with this and would take any advice for help with this. It keeps moving aournd my head from shoulders to behind my eyes.

obamamama - 5.3 hours ago
I've been throwing up at night after I take my prenatals. In the first trimester they made me sooo sick so I took them at night incase I started feeling sick. WELL I still take them at night but now I feel SO sick after I take them I have to get up from sleeping just to throw up :( doesn't happen every night just a couple nights a week. Anyone else going through this? or have some advice :)

megan5579 - 5.4 hours ago
Right there with you ladies on the fatigue thing!

talks1nmaths - 5.6 hours ago
I have trusted/allowed my fiance to take care of my grooming business 'down there' with both pregnancies from about 32 weeks on, and thus far he's yet to butcher me. I think he's more careful because it's not his own body, and I'm terribly grateful. mandyw-- I don't have any energy either, and had tons during the first and second trimesters. If I didn't have a toddler, I'd probably lay around in bed about 70% of the day. I've felt fatigued (and without much patience for anything) for a couple weeks now.

mandyw0213 - 5.8 hours ago
emma, lie down and do a kick count. I'm sure everything is fine but it helps if you are worried.

I don't know where my energy went. During the last trimester, I was bursting with it. I never slept past 8am just because I wanted to be up and doing stuff. Now I cannot make myself get out of bed before 10am. Ugh. Anybody else feeling as drained?

kedaps - 5.9 hours ago
Heather as far as a road trip my doctor said if you really needed to travel to stop every so often and stretch and you should be ok. just dont be sitting the whole time crammed. I got to visit my family which was 8 hrs from me and i was fine. Happy birthday and the best of luck with everything

emmaandtwoboys - 5.9 hours ago
baby hasn't moved all day and it's 12:30pm. Just drinking my 1st cup of coffee for the whole pregnancy......it is sooo good!!!! Not worried yet...or at least trying not to be

GiftFromGod - 5.9 hours ago
shez05, I was laughing when i read your post. hubby was also upset with me for trying to do it my self at this time but Lorddddd knows I'm scared outta my mind to let him do it. He even told me using clippers will be better than Scissor lol. we'll see how it goes.

heathermarieprego - 6.7 hours ago
I gained 5lbs in 2 weeks...so don't feel bad about gaining more weight. I was shocked but my dr said that it has to do with water weight too. I am not swollen bad but I do have some swelling in my feet. GiftfromGod: I didn't know that my little one had already went head down untill they did an ultrasound. To me it doesn't feel any different than the other way. I feel lots of pressure on my hips but that is called lightening. Oh yea ladies I have my breastfeeding class tonight. I am so excited! :)

megan5579 - 6.8 hours ago
Congratulations, Natty!!!!!!!!! That is so exciting!

mandyw0213 - 7.1 hours ago
Talks1nmaths, I have had some of the same problems. My doctor said that at this point the baby is not leaving our stomachs much room, so it is much better to eat about 5 small meals a day as opposed to three big ones. The baby on our stomachs can make us feel as though we will be sick if we get too full. Hope this helps!

natty1982 - 7.2 hours ago
OMG OMG!!! I am so excited. We scheduled my induction yesterday!!! Feb 10th my lil man will be here. I can't be anymore excited. I can't wait to meet him. Everything seemed to go well yesterday. I am being seen weekly. Have one ultrasound at the end of the month and another fetal echo and then he will be here!

kedaps - 9.4 hours ago
6 weeks to go!! I am so excited I love being pregnant but I cant wait to be a mommy

talks1nmaths - 10.8 hours ago
Is anyone else having issues with hardly being able to eat anything before they feel like they're going to burst? I had this problem early in the pregnancy (was my 'morning sickness', I guess... just had no appetite really), and now it seems to have returned. All I had for breakfast was a poptart, cup of yogurt and a glass of juice but I feel like I sat down to a ten course meal! I'm also not gaining weight anymore. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat...

shez05 - 16.8 hours ago
Hey Ladies....I just found this website that has a checklist on what to pack in your hospital bag (it's pretty good) and I will be taking it home with me tonight so I can add stuff to my bag HaHa - http://www.planningfamily.com/babies/checklists/planningfamily_hospitalbag.pdf

mandyw0213 - 17.4 hours ago
Megan, I don't know for sure, but it sounds like that may have been your mucous plug. I would definetly call your doctor to be sure! :)

jcjm - 17.5 hours ago
I'm excited, I have a sonogram tomorrow to see how my baby boy is doing. Size and what not. I have GD so they want to make sure he's not to big. Hopefully I'll have some answers as to my delivery options. My hospital bag is almost packed also. I'm just so excited and scared at the same time. Any one else a first timer with GD? I'm just wondering what options we have if the baby is getting to big.

megan5579 - 19 hours ago
Hey everyone... okay this might be TMI, but today when I went to the bathroom I stood up and looked into the toilet before I flushed (does anyone else do that?? ha) - and I saw some pinkish mucus floating around that was a little smaller than a dime in diameter. Could this be my bloody show???? Or my mucus plug, or whatever you call it?

mommyeva - 20 hours ago
And for you girls feeling hairy and can't do anything about it, I bought a 'personal trimmer' and my DH used it a couple days ago on my 'nether regions'. Did a pretty good job! And being the trimmer, there's no risk of nicks! He did way better than I can not being able to see!

mommyeva - 20 hours ago
Just got home from the hospital. My dr sent me after my appointment today. My measurements haven't changed in 2 weeks and there's protein in my urine. The non stress test went fine and I have another biophysical profile tomorrow morning. I'll be 36 weeks in 9 days. The doc thinks I'll be having this baby earlier than we thought! Aaah! I just hope she can wait until after my shower on sunday and my birthday on the 19th!

persia - 20.6 hours ago
Shez05, I would take as wide a variety of music as possible, as you don't know what you will be in the mood for. My first baby I couldn't stand any music at all and the second baby I didn't bother taking anything at all. Obamamama, I know this is a bit late to your question, but maybe it will help someone. The way I tell where its head is by shining a torch on my tummy. when my baby was breech it would kick and squirm when I shone a torch just below my left side rib cage, and now that it is down I have to shine the torch well below my belly button to get a reaction. My 2 little boys think it is a fun game to play with the baby, I just hope it isn't getting too annoyed!

shez05 - 20.8 hours ago
GiftFromGod - LoL I tired that last week as well and I thought I will start with a little trim and then a shave but it was so hard cause I couldnt see - I was trying not to cry...I came out of the shower all sad and hubby asked what was wrong and when I told him...he first got upset for me trying to do it on my own at this stage and laughed cos he thought it was funny LOL - Now that I think about it ...it is, so he said he would help me next time but thats kinda scary 2! LOL

GiftFromGod - 21.1 hours ago
Hello everyone, okay, so I went for a doc's appt today. She did not check to see the position of the baby but sent me to have an ultrasound for Thursday. I'm happy that I get to see my baby but aren't doc's to know the position by feeling on your stomach? I don't think my lit pumpkin has turned yet cos I still feel the little legs down below instead of up above. I just started having heartburns and it hurts. I woke up last nite crying and told hubby that both babies are kicking me lol (guess I meant the baby was kicking me on both sides) hubby was concerned and asked if I knew something he didn't ( no hubby, its not twins. I must have been sleep talking) This might me TMI but I tried to shave down there and couldn't becos I could not see past my belly button. I was so upset and started to cry. Hubby said he would help but God knows I'm scared to let him. I would have to. Hope everyone is doing okay.

nikkiekck - 21.1 hours ago
I do have a cd player in room and a sweet plasma tv and comfortable chair for dad. I am opting to bring my ipod though and packing as though going on a weekend getaway.with a baby bag of goodies course!

shez05 - 22.2 hours ago
Yay for week 34 only 6 more to go and I cant wait!!!! MnGirl - Welcome and yes you are doing this correctly and you can comment on anyones messages or page if you want HeHe! This is actually my first child so it exciting and scary at the same time! Okay ladies I have kinda started packing my hospital bag but we have our hospital appt tomorrow and they will tell us what we need to bring and what the provide so that should give me more of an idea! Question - In our labour room there is a cd player and we can bring cd's and stuff to play to sooth me HeHe just wondering if anyone else has this and if so what kind of cd's are you gonna take?! LOL I have been thinking about it and I have no idea what I want!!! HaHa

megan5579 - 22.5 hours ago
Hi all! I was just reading a couple of posts in the TTC forum, and ya know - for all the complaining I do about the woes of pregnancy, I sure am glad that I'm able to conceive - and I'm so happy that all of you are able to as well! I know we're all getting a bit uncomfortable during this last stretch - and if you find yourself getting overly frustrated at waiting these last few weeks, or at feeling crappy, just go read a few posts from the ladies trying to get pregnant. It definitely gave me perspective! I'm so glad I feel crappy and pregnant! haha

finkleberry - 22.8 hours ago
I'm going into hospital to check on bub seeing as he hasn't been moving much since the fit the other night. wish me luck!

mandyw0213 - 23.2 hours ago
Well, work doesn't seem to be getting any better. New blog. The contractions have really slowed down, so I plan on calling my doctor if they start back up again. Thank you all for your advice.

heathermarieprego - 1 days ago
Thanks to all of the positive meassages. I called my dr to see what he thinks is best for me and the baby and since I have already had pre term labor he doesn't want me going at all. He told me that if I do I am risking a lot...my water breaking, more contractions and not being able to get back before something happens. I am going to just have to deal with not being able to go and hopefully I can talk to my cousin before he goes in. Mandyw0213--I would call the dr if I were you. It is better to be safe than sorry. My dr has told me that if I have 5-6 contractions in an hour after laying down to come in. I know how it feels to not to want to go in for nothing but sometimes its something and not nothing. xxxx to everyone!!

Pregowith3 - 1 days ago
Went to dr. today. had ultrasound done on her heart and everything has cleared up. i am havin contractions about ten to twelve minutes apart but no dilation yet. she is head down and in position. last week when they checked me they could push baby's head up and down. today they couldn't so i guess her head is engaged. luckily the dr was able to feel my uterus contracting. i figured once i got there everything i'd been feelin would stop. but it didn't. my cervix is still kinda high due to me having a posterior cervix but the dr said that if contractions keep up and i do go into labor after 35 weeks he won't stop them cause with my cervix opening it could cause an infection. so we'll see how it goes in five more days and see what my little one decides to do. he doesn't think i'm in the early stages of labor by any means but he thinks i'm getting close..we go back next wednesday.

Nikolle - 1 days ago
mandyw0213 - I woudl call the dr just in case, Real contractions won't go away, like you are saying. And yes sex can triger labor, but not if the baby isn't ready to come out anyway. All these old wives tales don't work as well as we would like sometimes. Keep us posted :)

MnGirl - 1 days ago
Alirght I think I am doing this correctly. Just some info on me: This will be my 3rd child. I already have a boy and girl and am expecting another girl. Is everyone on their first child or have others? And can we comment on anybodys messages? Please Help?

obamamama - 1 days ago
mandyw- thanks girl! I just got home from the doctor and she has dropped and is head down, back towards me! so yayyy! heathermarie- happy birthday sweetheart. lots of rough news. :( sorry about everything going on. you're in my thoughts and prayers :)

TanyaT - 1 days ago
Mandyw0213, I would call the Dr.---even it if it is just to put you at ease. I have been having a ton of contractions over the past few weeks ...not real consistant--but they are getting to hurt sometimes. I am on partial bedrest now...anyway--it is better to have a false alarm than to not know what is going on:)

mandyw0213 - 1 days ago
P.S. the baby is moving ALOT in between contractions so there is comfort in that.
