Dates and numbers:
There are 128 days until your due date on February 17, 2009.
You are 152 days pregnant.
You are 5 months pregnant.
You are in your 5th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: May 13, 2008 to August 11, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: August 12, 2008 to November 24, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: November 25, 2008 to February 17, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby's blood circulation is completely functional. The umbilical cord system continues to grow and thicken as blood travels with considerable force through the body to nurture the baby. The placenta is now almost equal in size to the baby.

Your baby will be getting much larger during the second half of your pregnancy. Your baby's crown-to-rump length at this time is 7.2 inches and she weighs approximately 10.5 ounces. Your growing baby is about the size of a large banana. You should be able to feel your uterus about a half of an inch above your navel. Your weight gain so far will be around 10 to 15 pounds.

As your baby begins to lay down more fat, your weight will also increase. During the next 10 weeks, you will gain about half of the total gain for your entire pregnancy. Strangers can now tell that you are pregnant! You might notice an increase in appetite because you need 500 more calories a day to support your charged up metabolism. It is best to avoid processed foods or foods high in fat, calories or sugar. Some women also get strong cravings for foods. If you notice a craving for something unhealthy, you should contact your doctor. Craving for unusual things is known as pica. Some women crave cigarette ashes, charcoal, beer and other non-food items during this time.

Your baby's different organs and systems are maturing. The fetal digestive system is functioning in a simple way and your baby can swallow amniotic fluid. After your baby swallows the amniotic fluid, she is able to absorb water and sugars from the fluid and then the waste is passed as far as the large bowel. Your baby swallows the amniotic fluid in order to prepare itself for life outside of the womb. Some babies consume as much as 17 ounces of amniotic fluid in a 24-hour period. Your baby already has a high number of red blood cells and the white blood cells are beginning to be produced. Taste buds are being formed on your baby's tongue this week also.

Don't be surprised if your legs and feet become swollen throughout the day. You should try to get off of your feet some throughout the day and prop your legs up. If you notice a substantial amount of swelling, you should contact your healthcare provider for evaluation.

tiffany02-09 - 4.5 hours ago
Haha I had the same shower issue but I won out and mine will be november 22nd, my mother and sister wanted to have it january 26th but I told them if I had to wait that long I would just buy everything I needed myself. I just really wanted to have it before the holidays started and with enough time to buy anything I didn't get at the shower

mamatobe269 - 6.6 hours ago
I'm havin a very emotional day! I have been feelin so good up untill Wednesday and since then I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster ride. I'm feelin rage one min, then cryin like someone died the next! UGH I have been in control of my emotions till now and I want control back damn it!! I hate usein the excuse that I'm pregnant, but it has to be the reason I'm out of control right? I hope its just a phase and that tomorrow will be a better day! Hope you all are doin well =)

J9 - 7.6 hours ago
I've had a weird 'vibrating' feeling too! for me it's happened when I'm in bed and it's not on my bump is sort of on my hips/thighs. the first time it happened I pulled down my pjs to check what on earth was going on! then I just wondered if it was to do with something stretching!! funny someone else should mention that!!

TiffanyA - 8.1 hours ago
Violet23, I actually felt that vibrating feeling last night, but only once. I have no idea what it is.

marcardb - 8.1 hours ago
Sorry if this is tmi but is anybody feeling bubbles down there?

violet23 - 11.6 hours ago
So I've been having this strange vibrating feeling just on my left hip and it only happens when im standing. Sometimes I think it's my phone in my pocket but it's not lol. Has anyone experienced this or heard of this?

shirley37 - 12.3 hours ago
thanks Amiemommy, i did some research yesterday and i was freaked out because if realise that if you have the condition and do not take the medications then it can be risky for both mother and child. i really need to get to the endocronologist. i have faith that all will be well with my baby and myself

aggiemommy2b - 12.6 hours ago
I feel like CRAP! I think I have the black plague or something LOL. All I want is some cough syrup. Blehhh this sucks.

AmieMommy - 13.5 hours ago
Hi Shirley, I have a thyroid condition. Mine is Hypo and since I have been pregnant my doc has ordered a blood test every month. Before my medicine was leveled out and I only needed a test every 6 months. My medicine has not changed yet but to be on the safe side I still have to be tested every month. My ob assured me this condition would not affect my babies health. If I wasnt being checked every month I would def inquire to my doctor as to why not? I hope this helps.

nortybear - 14 hours ago
Miracle3-I have hypothyroidism too and have been on meds for about 6yrs. She checked it at about 18 weeks and everything was normal. I have been on the same dose for about a year now. I have noticed that my heart palpatations have been coming back.

megan5579 - 14 hours ago
Off to week 22 - see you all there. :)

megan5579 - 14 hours ago
Mandy - I'm having that same thing too and have been kind of weirded out by it!

mars-gabby - 14.6 hours ago
Hey girls--so comforting to agree on everyone input. Last night, my stomach was rumbling a lot, very noisey. Was I hungry ---I don't know but I did eat something. Is it bad for the baby when the stomach rumbles like that. I am sure its not one of those soothing sounds....anyone else waking up in the middle of the night or several times? Maybe baby is trying to say its my new schedule HAHA...

shirley37 - 14.7 hours ago
Miracle 3, i had the thyroid condition years ago, took medications and it was under control, always within the normal limits. however when i got tested in my 1st trimester, the results showed that it was again out of range. i have not started taking the medications as yet because i have an appointment to see the endocronologist.

surprisedat40 - 15.1 hours ago
Mandyw - about the leaking... if I were you I'd contact your local 'le leche league' and ask them. They were very helpful when I was trying to nurse my second son and was having problems. They know everything there is to know about nursing and I doubt there's a situation they haven't heard of... good luck!

paula090209 - 15.1 hours ago
heya guys, just woundering do any of use get cramp in ur side affter u have laid down for a whil, if u do how do u get rid of it quickly,

lttl bear - 15.4 hours ago
Thank you all for responding to my Jack Mack name issue. I feel much better about it after reading all of your comments. I feel like it's his name and I'm gonna stick with it. Still not telling anybody until he is born though! You guys are the only ones who know :) Thanks again.

Miracle 3 - 1 days ago
nortybear and shirley37 I have a thyroid confdtion as well (hypothyroidism). Yes - taking med - Are you both. How are you feeling. I was getting sick at 14 weeks and dr insisted it wouldn't need upping till 20 but when checked it was off an did. Have you both been checked each tri or month to stay on?

mandyw0213 - 1 days ago
Two questions: 1) I've noticed that when I walk very far at all- even at a real slow, easy pace I get this pain in my left side. It feels like what happens after you run a long distance. But even when I slow down and take it easy, it hurts. Is this happening to anyone else?

2) I still only leak from my right boob. Not the other one. Is this normal?

wifeandmom - 1 days ago
J9--I used to have that when I was pregnant with my first. I'm a teacher and would sometimes have to hold it too. But when I would go, I would get an awful pain in my left side. It would sometimes make me cry and I couldn't finish going because it hurt too bad. I thought it was a kidney infection. I went to the doctor and they didn't find anything wrong. I have had it once with this pregnancy. But I'm also not working now, so maybe I'm not holding it for so long. Who knows:)But I ended up with Preeclampsia with my first...and really high protein in my urine and was induced 5 weeks early because I was so sick. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not??

nortybear - 1 days ago
Shirley-I have a thyroid condition.

shirley37 - 1 days ago
is anyone being treated for thyroid disease?

megan5579 - 1 days ago
Violet - I drink mine at the next appointment - 24 weeks. I think my doc called it a 'glucose' test.

megan5579 - 1 days ago
My energy levels go up and down. Some days I wake up raring to go and can stay up late - other days I'm late to rise and early to bed while dragging the whole day in between.

violet23 - 1 days ago
Does anybody know when we have to drink that orange drink that checks our sugar. I'm not sure what the test is called.

sleepyem - 1 days ago
I've found it REALLY hard getting up in the morning this past week too, and have pretty low energy. My sleep's been a bit crappy again the last few nights. Been snuffly a lot and a bit dizzy/lightheaded sometimes. Also does anyone else have a weird hungry sort of feeling right after eating? I have a big bowl of porridge for breakfast but then straight after I have this funny hungry feeling, it's not quite the same as normal hunger... I have days when I can't seem to drink or eat enough...! J9 I get that bladder thing too I'd say it's just ligaments or something. Right I'm off to call my sister to talk to her about being bridesmaid at her wedding in jan - I just really don't know if I want to be a huge bridesmaid! I'd rather be glowingly pregnant in the background... :)

mrshernandez - 1 days ago
Hello ladies...I'm from week 39! I'm here to give alittle advice. I know everyone is getting ready to do the nursery's for your lil ones. If you are looking for bedding don't go all out and think you have to have anything super expensive...I did and I feel like an idiot! I went to Ross and TJMaxx and Walmart and found really cute bedding for 1/2 if not more off of the price I paid for my bedding! And these places are also really go places to find really cute cheap clothes and blankets! And one more tip...register for free baby magazines...most have awesome coupons in them...Almost all have a 10% offany one item from Baby Depot...which is also a great store to get things from! Hope this helps you ladies! Goodluck...it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

TanyaT - 1 days ago
Man oh man...talk about freaking tired...my 6 year old and 17 month old both have colds now and I think I am getting it. I could fall asleep standing up..hee hee. I have been really emotional this past 2 days too..I think even more than usual:( Ok..I am finished complaining:) Hope you all are well:)

patty76 - 1 days ago
J9, it may be a urinary tract infection. Apparently they're quite common (and my midwife told me I had one when they tested my urine at one of my appointments that I didn't even know I had). Perhaps go to the dr... I'm also stuffed all the time but am struggling to get a full night's sleep (whch is why I'm on here at 4am right now!) I am constantly late for work cos I just lay there in self pity at how tired I am and have no energy to do anything remotely physical. Is anyone else always puffed out? Walking any more than 100 metres and I sound like I've run a marathon! I am also finding it a struggle to have a much needed sleep in, the midwife told me it's natures way of preparing us for our little early risers in a few months time. Also, I've been reading your messages about the showers, I think it must be a whole lot bigger a deal in other countries than Australia. I've never heard of registries for them and more often than not (especially when it's not your first) people don't have them. I'm thinking of having a girls night in as all my friends are party gals, they can drink and I'll be drinking the non-alcoholic bubbly! I've got msot of my stuff already so it's the actual get-together I'm most looking forward to, I hate all those naff games & stuff...

TanyaT - 1 days ago
J9--I would think that pain came from holding it too long before you peed. Sounds logical.

J9 - 2 days ago
quick question - a couple of times this week I have been pretty busy at work and had to wait to go to the bathroom till i had a very full bladder. Whilst I was 'going' I got a sharp pain on my side, enough to briefly take my breath away but gone by the time I stood up. Do you think this is just my ligaments working overtime as my uterus moves because my bladder was too full?

collegeprincess27 - 2 days ago
woooohooooo week 21 I am sooooo glad I am not the only one who has no energy we get in bed by 8 and with some tossing and turning and FINALLY getting comfy I am out and with all that sleep 7 comes around and I still want to stay in bed. However on the weekends I can't sleep past 8a.m. I was starting to think I am crazy lol oh well guess its me trying to catch up on all the sleep I will lose once the lil monster is finally here btw the lil one was elbowing me yesterday a bit. Anyone else feel like getting sick looking at chilli?

Chel32588 - 2 days ago
Mandy- I think what makes it the most frusterating for me is I feel my mom should know how it feels to be huge and trying to get stuff ready(she didnt tell anyone that she was pregnant with me until she was 6.5 mos) So to me she should remember the stress. I mean its not like I am asking for a whole lot. I just would like some books to read to her and diapers. I do need a different car seat the one my BF's mom got us I dont care for and am worried it might have been recalled. And a bassinet would be nice which she said she would take care of I mean those are the most expensive things I need. I wish I could just do it all by myself but hard times have decided to come at this time there is no way I could afford to buy everything I need. I just dont understand why November just seems such a big problem!! GRRRRR

canuck - 2 days ago
found my first stretch mark this morning..hah guess its not to bad considering I'm half way thru my 2nd pregnant in 2 years

surprisedat40 - 2 days ago
vcats - I hear ya! I thought it was because I'm a bit older than most moms, but I feel EXACTLY the same way... you have described how I feel every day - no energy to do even simple tasks (like mopping my kitchen floor) that I know NEED to get done. ugh!!

Chel32588 - 2 days ago
Cats- I have energy some days and then some days I am down in the dumps... During the day I am exhausted and when I am off work and can to go bed I just lay there awake and i cant sleep when I finally fall asleep I am awake in two hours. On my Fridays off I sleep most of the day and feel tired all week and weekend but I just can not sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. Which is good practice I suppose?!

ycats - 2 days ago
Quick Question...Okay, so we are all about to start the sixth month - our last month is our second trimester. 'Everyone' (who are these people?) says that the second trimester you are full of energy - possibly more than you've ever had in your life! Okay, I do NOT fall in that category...I wake up everyone morning only wanting to fall back asleep. I just finish lunch and I am ready for a nap. I take a walk(down the hall!) and I'm exhausted. I get home from work and I'm ready for bed. (And I'm FAST asleep pretty much every night by 9:30 - and that's a late night for me.) Is anyone feeling the same way? Or are most of you having all the energy the books and websites all say we should have right now? (Btw, my iron levels are fine - I'm not anemic - there is no medical reason that I'm so tired right now.)

mandyw0213 - 2 days ago
Chel! I know what you mean. I thought November seemed the best too. January just seems so close and I really don't want to be waiting til the last minute to see what all I need to buy because I didn't get it in the shower! It's like, I appreciate that you want to throw me a shower, but can we make it just a little bit more about what works for me? lol. Such stress.

lovedove - 2 days ago
My mom says I should be happy that she is handling me down all her stuff from my sister, who is 11 now. I mean, 11 year old stuff is kinda old not to meantion I gave her all my stuff from my son only 4 years ago. So some of the stuff she is 'giving' me is mine to begin with. I mean some stuffs styles never change like walkers and stuff. She says 'I'm giving you about $2000 worth of stuff, you should be happy.' Well mind you, the breast pump she is 'giving me'(which I already have one but hers is suppose to work better, it's a double pump) cost her $300 so at that cost $2000 worth of stuff isn't going to be that much stuff. GRRR my mom makes me mad!

JOY2B - 2 days ago
daranbabymama-I really like the name Destiny too! Im sure it wont end up being the one we choose, but I like it. Lovedove-I thought I was the only one that felt that way about the baby showers! I started registering for the shower that will be in Jan. but there is so much I would just like to buy myself etc.. or that I already have bought. But, I know that there are family and friends out there that really love, buying those baby gifts..etc. so hopefully it will be fun for everyone and we can all enjoy it some. I will just not invite so many! I wanted to suggest mine for late Nov. too, but so many frowned at that?.dont know why. oh well, dont go into preterm over it! YAY Im off to 22 weeks tomorrow!

Chel32588 - 2 days ago
lovedove- I sure have felt the same way my mom wants to wait till the end of January and first of all I dont want to be huge and 'entertaining' people, and not have anytime to put her stuff where I am going to want it while being huge and possibly going in to pre term labor. Also it will be after the Holidays when people are recovering, and just before Valentines day! So I said lets try November but she made it seem like it was just not even an option. Which makes me mad she doesnt seem to understand where I am coming from at all.

lovedove - 2 days ago
I need to vent---Has anyone besides me gotten the feeling that throwing a babyshower for you is just a BIG inconvenience? I hate that! If I could I would just buy everything myself! In fact I have even though about erasing my registeries, which I haven't asked for much, and doing it all on my own!

daranbabymama - 2 days ago
littlbear: my bf named our baby Destiny Chanel Kelly. and so much people ask us why destiny and not to name the baby after any name brand.. that and the other.. but i do not care we love the name and plus i did not help anyone name their babies so it's a choice between me and the baby daddy.

Chel32588 - 2 days ago
littl bear- I love the name you have picked out. I think its cute, it sounds good together. I know how you are worried about the crap from the fam but just tell them to say it over and over and they will like it. When I told some family and friends the name I had picked out for my little girl they all just looked at me weird and said 'well thats a funky name' i had to tell them to keep saying it and its really cute... I think so anyway and no other little girl will have her name BTW its Brailie (pronounced Bray-Lee some people say it weird so I had to clarify)! Any way I think it is a cute name and go for it. They will get used to it or just have to give him little nicknames which a lot of the time happens no matter what the name is.

mandyw0213 - 2 days ago
littlbear: just wanted to add to the comment I left on your page- Don't let anybody talk down about the name you choose. Seriously, if you and your partner like it, that's all that matter. I'm going with Jack as well and I have gotten a couple of negative comments about it, but I think it's cute and our little guys will grow into their names just fine :)

mommyeva - 2 days ago
Yay 22 weeks! See you there!

patty76 - 2 days ago
lttl bear - I like it, it's got a ring to it! You want to say it over and over. I mean Jack Black rhymes and he's a movie star! It's a name you remember...
