Your baby is continuing to grow each week that you remain pregnant. Your baby's crown-to-rump length is nearly 11.2 inches and total length is approximately 18 inches. Your baby weighs approximately 3.5 pounds at this point. Your uterus is about 4.4 inches above your bellybutton and continues to get larger. An average weight gain at this point is between 21 and 27 pounds. The weight that you gain is made up of your baby, placenta, blood supply, uterus, breasts, fat, water storage and amniotic fluid.

Because the ligaments and muscles supporting the small of your back relax and loosen in order to get ready for childbirth, your back may be aching from now on. There is usually nothing that can be done to prevent backaches, only to make them more comfortable. Many women get heartburn during these last few weeks of pregnancy because the oversized uterus leaves less room for the stomach and the contents within the stomach. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help relieve the discomforts of heartburn.

This week marks an incredible milestone in your baby's lung development. Before now, the air sacs and branches in your baby's lungs were present but not functional. The lungs were not able to inflate properly. However, now there is surfactant being produced in your baby's lungs. Surfactant prevents your baby's lungs from collapsing outside of the uterus and the baby is able to take in air and breathe properly. The fetal ear is almost completely developed both inside and out. Your baby can hear your voice and other familiar sounds that she will recognize after birth. Your baby is putting on white fat under the skin and the skin's color is pink instead of red at this point. Your baby's fingernails have grown to the end of her fingers and she may scratch herself while she is in the womb.

moni7 : I had a cold around week 12. I only took tylenol, drank plenty of water and slept a lot. But I'm sure you could also take some cold drops like Halls Natural for your sore throat?

Feellikeabear : the chinese gender prediction was right for me! It said that it's a boy... and I saw it again yesterday at my ultrasound. There was no doubt he's a boy lol !

bear, the chart was totally off for me even if I was three years older, and younger! I think thoes things are just for fun. I really dont bleive there is any way to tell until you give birth....the suspence would kill me.... :)

I take tyl pm often, to sleep, and took the spray stuff for a bad throat a few months ago. Its all okay, just dont double up on anything, pick one like tyl and the throat spray and thats it.

Well Ladies... I THOUGHT I had avoided getting sick this season. I guess hanging around my sick DH, FIL, MIL, etc. finally got to me. I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and today it seems to be moving UP my head. I am not feeling HORRIBLE, but I would like to fight the cold b/c I have birthing classes on Thursday and my first baby shower on Sunday. I called my OB and the woman who answered said it would be fine for me to take DayQuil, Tylenol, Robetussin, and the red Chloroseptic Spray. Have any of you ladies taken anything for a cold while pregnant?

my little mini loves the left side...bad news i just found out i have gestational diabetes (sp?) making me very nervous bcs they said that it is common that babies usually come out extra large...i am already having problems coping with the fact something that big is comming out of something so small...and now i am completly freaking out..anyone else been diagnosed with this and have some words of wisdom..? i dont see the specialist until 1/28/09 AND they still cant figure out what is going on with my iron.. may have something to do with the fact i have the sickle cell trait.. I AM STARTING TO PANIC!!

I don't know if you ladies know this. My doctor told me that what you baby weights now it will double when it's born. My son weights 3 lbs 9oz so when he is born he will weight 7 lbs. That is what my first son weights. I think that will be cool if this was 7lbs ans 3 oz like his bigh brother.

Well I'm having a boy and when I lay down I feel him on my left side, rarely ever on my right side. When I am sitting up or laying back like in the bath, he moves everywhere, it's like my tummy has waves in it all over the place. Although yesterday when I woke up he was laying on my right side and in my ribs, I could barely push on him because of how bad it hurt but I needed him to move!

Mami-yes my son love my right side. He does everything on my right. He hates it when I lay on my left side. he will kick and kick until I move back to my right side. I told my SO that my right side will be flat from laying on it all the time LOL.

Ive got lower left movement, and upper middle/right. Yeah the whole tum moves, its so wierd. Over all, I like it, but if I think about it too much it kinda creaps me out.

feellikeabear : my son is all over the place ! He kicks and moves either to my right or left side. It's crazy! I can see my belly moves and it's so funny! And I don't know if this means anything, but he's more active when I lay on my left side.

feellikeabear- my son seems to move to either side...it changes every night... mostly he is on the left side though. but when its time for me to lay down and sleep, he usually moves around to the right.

Wow I sure got a horrible night.I came down with a bad stomach flu. I have been up since 11:30 pm. Hope it will not affect mt baby.So I have to call in sick at work. I probably will work until Feb. or end of January. Then I go for 1 year maternity leave. And by the way my baby like to curl on the right side and he's a boy.

Well, yesterday I had a dr. appt. and he told me about the result of my ultrasound done dec. 31. My baby he said if I carry it full term can weigh 9 lbs. Next week I will see my ob/gyne and I will see what he would say.

Among the many old wives tales we have here, the most believed is that boys prefer the right side and girls prefer the left side. My baby curls on on the left too and I am wondering if there is any truth in this tale. Other mommies too, please tell me your experience regarding this. I am really curious now as to whether I am having a boy or a girl.

I get cramps in my right leg. I use to get them all the time years ago and they just came back this week. Its mostly in my calf muscle and they hurt!! I can't stretch that leg without getting one. I know in the past if I increased my potassium it helped. I would eat banannas, oranges drink orage juice etc.. I hope they get better.

I try not to stretch my leg so much and eat more calcium everyday, if I walk too much I found that my leg will cramp at the leg muscle...

Hi ladies, do any of you get musle like cramps. I get bad in my right arm and leg. Mostly at night. my gynie has put me on extra calcium and magnesium but it doensn't seem to help. I cant stretch my leg without having it cramping on me is this normal?

so the menstrual like cramps aren't normal..wow..i had them a couple times n the last couple days. one lasted for like 6 min n the pain kinda shot down my leg. tomorrow I start my non stress testing twice a wk until I deliver. does any one know what they do n will I get an u/s when they do it. so i had a dr. appt today and they said at my 28 wk ultrasound my baby was weighin bout 3lbs and if he keeps growin at this rate ill prolly have a 9lb baby... OH MY!! and my fundus is measuring at 33 weeks.. i hope he like 3 weeks early so i aint gotta have big baby or ima ask for a csection n i really dont want to do that..

Well my little girl weighed in at three pounds and 5ounces and that was week 30 im technically in week 32 and my doctors said im measuring a week further then that but still no changes to my due date :-/

cheyeene thank you for that. i know it dosent mean much but i have a stich in and my main scare is that i will start laboring with it in and cause it to rip and thats the last thing i want. So right now im like VERY cautious about everything

Ina, my dr. (I dont really need it though) gave me a leave of absence form right in the beginning that was dated 2 weeks prior to my due date, maybe you could get one...Im so surprised at that policy, my gosh do they want your water breaking while you are teaching class????? crazy!

My school district's policy says that we are required to work till our due date unless otherwise directed by our doctors. So, I guess I am working till I bust.

Im not sure if Im getting BH either!? sometimes when I exercise or work I feel full and heavy, could that be it? it doesnt come and go as I would expect a contraction to feel though. Chas, if you are getting period like cramps CALL YOUR DOC!! thats not good, I had them in the beginning and the doc was very concerned. also about maternity leave, Im not sure when I should stop working...2 weeks before the due date sounds good, but if I go over, then that could be almost a month with no work even before I have the baby...hmmm gonna ask the dr on Wed.

Nothing has been going right lately, my husband is a Idiot(read my blog about him being in the doghouse, if you want to know) I have been so stressed about that and also other issues! I went to the drug store to get my pre-natals and i had to wait forever after i called it in the told me another 45 minutes then when i went back they said they didnt have any in stock!!! I'm telling ya nothing is going right.. And I havent felt my little one move all day!!! Could it be from all the stress and me crying??? I'm worried but i do have an appt. tomorrow for a sono...

It is pretty rare to have braxton hicks with first pregnancies. It is usually on your second or so on that you get them.

I had my appointment today. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow. I measured at 34 cm today. I asked if that was going to change my due date. She said no. My baby just went through a growth spurt. I am fortunate enough to have had another ultrasound scheduled for the 21st of Jan. :) I'm so happy I get to see my little guy again! They're going to take measurements and estimate his weight at the time and make an estimate of how much he will weigh at birth. I was soooo afraid that I was going to have a HUGE weight gain seeing as it is right after the Holidays. I was off for 2 weeks and I ate like an OINK! I actually LOST a pound! YEP! Happy Camper!

Ashley- not only is it normal but I think it is fairly common. Ihad this happen during week 34 and my Dr. said it is common and that the mucous plug actually regenerates itself. It is common for it to come out in pieces well before the whole kit n kaboodle comes out. Unless it is tinged with blood and in a big glob then it isnt really an indicator of much.

So I keep getting these period-like cramps...sometimes with diarrhea and sometimes without. I asked before and you guys said not to worry that it's prolly just a bug but it's starting to worry me. My little guy is still very active but could this be a sign of early labor? This is my first so I don't know what to expect?

Does anyone else not like sharing their food...lol I seem a little selfish but everytime someone asks me I tell them its for the baby not for me, which isn't a total lie! lol I dunno I just think people should know better to ask preggo people for some of their food. I wasn't so selfish before i got preggo I know that.
