Dates and numbers:
There are 104 days until your due date on March 06, 2009.
You are 176 days pregnant.
You are 5.8 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: May 30, 2008 to August 28, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: August 29, 2008 to December 11, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: December 12, 2008 to March 06, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby's crown-to-rump length is about 8.8 inches. Weight has increased to around 1.5 pounds and fat is still being deposited at a high rate. Babies come in all shapes and sizes, so your baby could vary slightly from these `average` measurements. Your uterus has grown quite a bit bigger this week. The top of your uterus is between your bellybutton and your sternum. Your uterus is about the size of a soccer ball now!
If your baby is delivered at this time, it would have a good chance of surviving. It is best for your baby to remain inside of you for the remainder of the pregnancy, but great advances have been made in the care of a premature baby. Ventilators, monitors and medications all help premature babies develop and grow outside of the womb. If your baby were born this early, he would probably have to spend several months in the hospital and would be more susceptible to infections and other complications.
You can hear your baby's heartbeat with both a Doppler and a stethoscope at this time, and your partner may even be able to hear the heartbeat unaided if he puts his ear in the right position. Sex differentiation is being completed now. If you are expecting a baby boy, the testes start to descend into the scrotum. In baby girls, the vagina is hollowing out. Your baby is able to do more with their fingers now and can move his fingers to make a complete fist. As your baby becomes more dexterous, he will be able to touch and hold his feet. Babies also begin to prefer their left hand or right hand at this time. Because babies settle into routines of sleep and activity, you might begin to notice these patterns as well. Some women experience the most fetal movements while they are trying to rest.

I have a strange question is it possible for the baby to tangle and untangle him/herself with the umbilical(sp?) cord.? How will we know if they are tangled? Do we get another ultrasound before the babay is due? Sorry I am a first timer and am very nervous about everything. My doc calls me a spaz.Ashley1562 -

alisha i got the same impression from the article. it made me wonder if more 21 weekers would make it if more were given intensive care!!! WOW i'd love to see a pic of that baby today!!! AMAZING STORY!!!mercedes30 -

liloscarsmommy - The placenta can move again. I had placenta previa the entire time, and then it moved up at 37 weeks. For the rest of you, my doc said if it starts up higher, it usually won't go down later...Also, the techs aren't really supposed to say ANYTHING to you about what they see. They are not allowed to give 'a diagnosis' so that may be why she brushed you off. When they found mine, I just saw her typing the words, but she never said anything and I couldn't remember what that word meant.Ashley1562 -

Alisha-Well i have not read the article but the way you takin it is true. Doctors will even tell you that at that stage its nothing they can do. Especially if your havin problems thats the first thing they told my friend with this pregnancy it scared heralisha2730 -

So I was just reading this story on the worlds most premature baby ever born. http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/florida-girl-worlds-most-premature-baby/2007/02/20/1171733764459.html She was 21 weeks gestation, born last year and survived. There are guidlines out there I guess that say normally babies born that early (and this is how I'm taking it, I'm not sure if I'm right)have such a high risk of problems and possibly not making it, that doctors are not required to initiate intensive care to the child, only if the parent wants. If I am reading this right, I am shocked!! How is it that someone who has had an accident and is now in vegitative state can be kept on life support with no real signs of coming out of it, but doctors are not required to fight for this tiny infants life?!?! Please let me know if I am reading this article right and your thoughts.jennys -

mommyof4plus-more... my first son was born with his cord wrapped twice around his neck and around his leg!! we didn't know until delivery though... in labor as he got lower in the birth canal the pressure from my contractions was aparently squeezing the cord ans causing his heart rate to drop..I had an emergency C-section. it took them a while to get him out he was a large baby and fairly low in the birth canal... I was told for some reason??? alot of blood traveled from his body back into the placenta?? (I don't know if that has anything to do with the cord being wrapped or just the fact that it took so long getting him out...)tehy had to cut the cord before they brought him all the way out and when he was born he needed a little extra attention to start breathing..but within the hour he was fine.
I'm sure since your doctor knows about the cord being wrapped extra precautions will be taken.
... funny how some babies get tangled up like that... my first son wasn't that active in the womb , my second was all over the place and I thought for sure he'd be wrapped but he wasn't... and this one is somewhere between the twoLindz -

wow mercedes30..didn't know that could happen. funny you mentioned fibroids. I had to go to the emer rm a few wks ago from bein super clumsy..i had a slight fall. the us tech asked me if the us techs before had mentioned fibroids. they hadn't and I asked her did she see any n y she asked. she brushed me off w/o an answer then said my placenta was very close to my cervix. I'd never heard that at previous us either.I asked can the placenta move, again she brushed me off. Is it possible for the placenta to move that much in a month. My last us at 20wks they said there was no sign of placenta previa..can that change in a matter of wks. I have us again at 28wks I hope they tell me somethingmercedes30 -

My baby was breech and I did have to get a c-section....but I had fibroids so they thought they'd get in the way of her turning. However, later when the fibroids were removed, they were on the outside of the uterus, so maybe they wouldn't have been in the way. If your baby doesn't turn by the end (37 weeks) they can manually try to turn them. But I doubt they will let you have a vaginal birth if the baby is breech--it can kill you and the babeliloscarsmommy -

Anyone else have a baby this far along with cord around the neck? I posted a poll with pics a few weeks ago because I beleived I saw the cord, and sure enough the doctor said it is wrapped around his neck, not once but twice! At first i was scared, but she said a 3rd of babies are born with no problems that way! So I am just praying everything turns out ok, was wondering if anyone on here is going through this or has?Ashley1562 -

I hate that I haven't gotten to participate in many of the topic discussions this week, but I've gotten some good info from you guys. I am leaving tomorrow a.m. for Virginia to be with my family for Thanksgiving. Is it bad that I am more excited about eating at Paula Deen's than seeing my family? Anyway, I'll talk to you lady's once I get settled in this weekend.jamesonsmamma -

Hey ladies i have a question. Are any of your babies currently breech? And if so when does it become a concern to your doctors? I'm hopin by monday this little girl will turn for mejimmysbabymama -

Kanojoca -- just know that is totally not true! If your mom didn't get them, odds are really good that you won't either! Me, on the other hand, my mom still looks like she got attacked by a bear to this day and I'm getting pretty close to the same more and more every day! Consider yourself lucky even if you only get one or two little ones and just remember, it could be worse!kanojoca -

I ask the midwife today if she was going to measure me and she said its too early, that she'll do it at my next appointment in 2 wks, but she felt everything and then the cheeky bitch said oh you have cream on your tummy i said yes i always do, and she said no stretch marks yet i see, i said nope and my mom didn't get them either, she replied with well they will come most definitely while your giving birth, you watch and see. Elizabeth - I know! Emma seems pretty into babies right now too. She carries her baby doll all around the house and when we go somewhere and she sees a carseat she runs over and just gazes at the baby. It's so cute, but I'm a little worried she is going to get rowdy. Plus whenever my dog Jax jumps on BF's lap, Emma gets jealous and has to get on his lap too. It's gonna be crazy!!lynz40 -

Lainy-Up until my last appointment (around 23 weeks) my dr didn't use the tape measure to measure my uterus he just used his hands...however at my last appointment he used the tape measure and I measured exactly 23 cm. I have heard of people that were measuring behind a couple of weeks and a couple of weeks ahead..I think everyone is different. elizabethw -

I was measured at my last appt. I was measuring about .5 week behind. I'm hoping when I go in next that maybe I am measuring ahead (maybe that would mean lil one will be born sooner, that would sure be nice!). I have started thinking about the day my lil one will be here and I'm getting a little freaked out. Mainly because I have 1 daughter and then we will have 2 to take care of. I sure hope I can handle this!! =)mercedes30 -

I went to my appt last week and she measured. Did you read the above description that our uterus is now the size of a soccer ball? wow Mandi--my hubby is the same way. When we were dating he drew a picture for me to explain my digestive process, while we were on a date at a restaurant. I also had the whole kit and caboodle yearly exam the day I found out I was preggs. She gave me a preg test just in caseBobbyG -

Hi all. I mostly onlf feel baby on right side, occassionally few kicks to the left side - sure it all just depends where they are comfortable. Also, with regards to the whole epi/natural/caeser birth discussion, its very important that everyone keeps an open mind. Unfortunately I have been in the situation where I had no choice with my first, I had to have a c/s, and when I had my twins 22 months later, they were coming out the same way. I know of too may people who have their hearts set on a certain kind of birth, and then at the last minute they have to get their heads around something else. Unfortunately it is a breeding ground for PND, when you feel like you have let yourself down. Please just all keep an open mind, and trust your caregiver - they do generally know whats right...lainyj -

I was wondering if everyone was measured when they went to their dr. appoint. I think its called fundal height. Where they measure your belly. On Monday I measured 22 and I am at 25 weeks, how close has everyone been? And does anyone have info on this? mandiandburger -

I had a pap and breast exam at my first appointment, also. Then they found abnormal cells and I had to have a biopsy. OUCH! It was not fun... My husband went with and watched the whole thing, he thinks it's so cool to watch them do things like that! I married such a strange man, but I love him anyways!jamesonsmamma -

All of you lady's involved in the epidural talk, I really want to try natural this time (tried with my last and had one for the last 30 minutes, oh and it only hit part of one side-that one numb side helped sooo much). But I was so disappointed in myself like I failed, now I realize that I accomplished what I came in for- birthing my baby out safely. So I would say go in there with an open mind and be prepared to change it if need be. It's such a personal choice and an understandable one to make either one. Oh yah I feel my baby on my right side all balled up in my ribs. Also how far above your belly button is your uterus? Mines 3 inches and I'm just entering my 25th, thats normal right? My doc never measures he just feels it, listens for a Heart beat and were done. marchjoy -
