Dates and numbers:
There are 110 days until your due date on March 12, 2009.
You are 170 days pregnant.
You are 5.6 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: June 05, 2008 to September 03, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: September 04, 2008 to December 17, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: December 18, 2008 to March 12, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

This week your baby's crown-to-rump length is around 8.4 inches and your baby will weigh approximately 1.2 pounds. Although it weighs a little over a pound at this point, your growing baby is still tiny. Your uterus can easily be felt 1.5 to 2 inches above your bellybutton. The fetus does not appear to have much room in the uterus anymore, but as your pregnancy progresses, space gets much tighter!
Because your uterus is expanding and putting a great amount of pressure on your abdomen, you might get stretch marks. Your weight gain may also be taking a toll on your body at this point. Many pregnant women experience backaches, bladder problems, sore feet and fatigue that affect their daily routines. You might also have some nasal stuffiness or nosebleeds.
Your baby's face is basically complete now. The fetus's eyes are close together on the front of his face and they are still shut. Your baby's ears have moved into their final position on the sides of his head. Where they are now is where they will be when your baby is born! Hair will continue to grow on his scalp and his eyelashes are well developed. Most of your baby's features look the same as they will at birth. Because your growing baby is getting plumper, he no longer has room in your tummy to do cartwheels and somersaults.
Now is a good time to ask about prenatal classes being offered in your area. Many local hospitals offer classes for expectant women and their families. You should aim to complete the classes approximately one month before your due date.
You may sometimes get a stitch-like pain in your side from time to time. It's simply the muscles of the uterus stretching.
the unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair called lanugo. Its tender skin is protected by a waxy substance called vernix. Some of this substance may still be on the child's skin at birth at which time it will be quickly absorbed.
The child practices breathing by inhaling (up to a liter/day) amniotic fluid into developing lungs.

FOR ALL YOU LADIES OUT THERE...
A great way to make your own baby food....
Bake your potatoes in the oven....boil the carrots...whatever....
Mash them up really good, add water (needs to be moist for the baby)...
Then FREEZE in ICE CUBE TRAYS.
Once frozen, take out, put in ziplock bags....
then feed you baby a 'CUBE' of potatoes, a 'cube' of carrots, ....of course...
defrost!
My soon to be pediatrician gave me the idea.steponroach -

Nikki, thanks for the extra input on cloth diapers! I have read much on Yahoo Answers about them.
It isn't about going green to use cloth diapers...it is I hate going to the store and buying diapers just to throw away!
with cloth, I can later on use them to mop the floors!
And, I just hate going to the store all the time anyway (and since I have to have a Csection...it will make me less dependent on my husband)mercedes30 -

With my first, I had enough diapers from baby showers to last for her entire first year! If you have the wrong kind or wrong size, Walmart lets you exchange for what you need, as long as it isn't open. Lindz -

Just thought it was worth a mention to those who are already thinking about nappies/diapers. There's not much point buying them now cos your baby may be allergic to them. When i was a baby ( i'm 23 now) my mum had bought loads through her pregnancy and i was allergic to them so she had to buy more. Bit of a false economy. mercedes30 -

i also forgot to mention that the reason my son was toilet trained early was the fact that i just couldnt be bothered changing his napie no more so he used the potty for poos and then when he learnt that was a good place to go he started weeing in there and the only reason that he learnt all that was becuase when you are washing napies and you get sick of it you start to watch you child faces when they are about to poo and you soon learn to pick up on it so you way up do you want to scarp poo or flash poo lol where as my friends that dont use cloth they are just starting to train there kids and they are 3 now. my daughter is 14mths and she has just started using the potty as again she is a wetter so i had to change her heaps dont get me wrong i can go for 5hours without changing her but thats just mean would you want to stay in wet undies foor that long i dont think so well i just started noticing that she wees every 30mins so i put her on the potty at those times and when she poos she goes all quite and tunes you out so i stick her on the potty even if she is wearing a nappy i take it of her and then put it back on she has now started to sit on the potty without me telling her too when she wants to do poos but wees is taking a while but i dont care less nappies for me to wash.. but i think that if she was in dispoable i would have just left her till she was ready as it is just easy to wrap up and throw away than wash and dry nappies. but then saying that it still not that hard i will still use cloth and for the record when my 1st was born i was usuing disposables but they just got to expensive and he kept getting the crystals in his skin even if he wasnt in them for long which lead to a rash and when he was newborn he got bad thrush from huggies so i never ever went near them again. and when i had my 2nd i used cloth right from the start she has never gotten a rash not even a minor one...

huh i see people have been talking about cloth well i can say as a mum of 2 1 is 3 and 1 is 14mths i use cloth and when my 2nd was born i used cloth for both of them at the same time and yes when this one is born i will be using cloth for 2 kids again i dont find it that hard one of the women on here said that you have to mess around with poos thats not true at all for starter over her in new zealand you are ment to scrap poo of the dispoable before throwing it in the trash so whats the differents and with the cloth you can buy liners that can get flushed down the loo so if it did a poo then take the liner out and flush it away with the poo and then put nappie in a bucket till your ready to wash. if you cant aford the liners then just shake the pooy nappie over the toilet it will soon drop of or for the first few weeks it will be runny anyways so wash it down the washohouse sink and again put it in the bucket to soak then when bucket is fill wash them and my clothes dont smell like poos im guessing that your mum never rinsed the nappies and your washing machine might have been old so poos stayed in there longer...
as for the nappies there are heaps to chose from over her i use real nappies and that is just a prefold folded into a pad for newborn and you put the pad into the cover that looks like a dispoable and then put nappy on like you would normaly and they have leak gaurds on them so poos cant run out the side and the lining is plastic coated so it wont smell you can use it even if it was just a pee and if no poo got onto then use it again i can get away with just changing the pad inside and using the cover all day and change it for night time yes thats right my baby sleeps in a cloth all night i just stick 2 pads in to hold her over and belive me she a wetter but she still wakes up with dry cloths as long as i take her nappy of her she is fine... i find it much cheaper using cloth than i did with disposables and can you guess how much i paid for my nappies all up they cost me 200 and if i were to use disposables i would be paying over 2000 a year and when this baby come it would be double that not to mention that i would have to buy different sizes and i can also relax that i am doing my bid to save the world by not have to nappy in the landfeild o by the way washing your nappies only costs 50cent a wash and in most cases if you have bought enough nappies and have a big bucket you can get away with washing nappies every 2nd day like i do and that was also when my son was in nappies too. really not that hard and i cant stand people that turn their noses up to cloth saying ewww when they havent in their life tried it so before you say no you should at least try it first to see if it is you or not.. and also in new zealand we have a grant to you cloth the goverment helps pay so you can get them as we are trying to be greener over her and they have come a long way from usuing pins and fluffies although i use the big squares and fold them into pad as i find they soak up more wee than the other ones inday -

I am also going to use cloth diaper. Since I have a one year maternity leave, I think I can handle washing poopy diaper. For me its one diaper out of a landfill. But I will still use a disposable when we go out. My problem will be when I take the baby to day care. The director said, its against the health code. Well anyway I will not worry about it, if it works then I will continue, if not, then I will switch to disposable.chas5 -

In case you guys haven't heard, cloth diapers have come a long way. They look just like disposable and you don't put the plastic thing over them anymore. They have velcro closure too. I have 2 friends who use them and love them, but they do get tired of them sometimes and use disposable for a couple weeks and then switch back.1sttimemom25 -

Oh by the way steponroach- If you really want to wash cloth diapers I would actually check into the price of the diapers you want. They make some fancy ones over here in the US that are supposed to last longer, in terms of number of uses. But they too are pricey. Plus you need the plastic thing to go on top of them. My girlfriend did them for about a month and then gave up. You have to wash them for every pee. And you can never catch a pee and a poo in one change. Worse if you have a runny boy like my friend.1sttimemom25 -

I agree on the cloth diapers. There is a special art to cleaning those things and I think it takes too much of your time. You will probably wash clothes weekly for the baby and to take special time to hand wash poopy diapers everyday is alot. I guess if you stay home and dont have other kids or many chores it could be doable. I just cant bother. Disposable are just so much easier. mama-julz -

I think cloth diapers are only good for burp cloths lol. Try purchasing your diapers from a warehouse like Costco or Sams Club. You pay a little bit more but you get more diapers. Also when I throw baby showers I ask guests to bring a package of diapers along with their gift if they wish to be included in a special prize drawing. This gift should be nicer than the gifts you give out for the games. Every time I do this the parents to be have at least a 3 month supply of diapers before the baby is born! And if some of them end up being too small take the package to any store and exchange them!jacobbs-girl -

Although cloth diapers are inexpensive and easy since you have them lying around they are yucky you have to put those plastic panties over them and they leak all over even if you catch the babe going in time, my mom used to use them on my lil sister and immediately changed to disposables because of the fact that you had to wash poop in your washing machine and it was starting to make the clothes smell like poo... I guess you can try if you want but I dont think I will EVER, eww.tiggerlyli -

1sttime I took Lamaze and it did nothing for me. Like Denyze said it's more to prepare the men. I wasn't in labor long with my first, he came right out. I think since this is your first you should take a class more for the experience. It's fun being around other pregnant women. terrencesmom -

My sound freaky, but i loved child birth with my 1st. Yes it was scary yes it hurt like hell. I was all over the place at one point baby's head was right there i could feel him and i ran off to the toilet thinking i needed a number 2. I had an injection of pethadine which helped with the pain and also gas and air through the contractions. In the end i was on my hands and knees hanging over the back of the bed when he popped out. As soon as he popped out the pain disappeared and i massive wave of love comes washing over you the second your eyes meet that child. And to this day i really can't remember the extent of my labor, because of that feeling i got at the end. Don't be worried about it accept every second, minute, hour. Don't think oh my whats gonna happen in 3hours. Just relax in the moment your in. I think it's an amazing thing to go through. I feel very privileged to be able to it as some women in the world will never get the chance. Me and alot of you others are getting that. xxxmittens0809 -

I was totally freaked out by the pain of childbirth and I knew with my first one I was going to get a epidural. I did not want to be in any pain at all I just wanted my baby even though I really hated needles and at my hospital no one can be in the room with you when you get the epidural only you and a nurse plus the anaesthesiologist so I was totally scared but did not want any pain so I did it. And then it did not work.At first it did then after about half hour it wore off so they unplugged the little button I Got to push and I had to go natural I really wished I would have taken lamaze classes at that point but like I said I knew I was going to have a epidural I just never expected it not to work. So with this baby I will try a epidural again knowing that it probably won't work again if that tells you any thing about the pain. so always have a back up plan.I took lamaze with this one just in case.I don't mean to scare any one just make sure you have a back up plan just in case the same thing happens to you and I guess the pain couldn't have been that bad since I got pregnant again four months later right lolmercedes30 -

I can totally relate to Lorid's comment. My son is now 9 - I was 20 when he was born. Life just gets so 'busy' that before you know it you have wished there little childhood away. I wish he could sleep through the night, I wish he could walk / talk / feed and dress himself / I wish he would stop sleeping in my bed...I asked him to sleep in my bed the other night so I could give him big cuddles and now he feels too grown up to sleep with mum. Kids really do grow so quickly so cherish every moment..even at 3am. :)lorid -

gsummertime, I had my first 3 kids between 20 and 26 years old. And then the 4th came on my 39th birthday. Let me tell you, it has been a WORLD of difference!!! With the older kids, I couldn't wait until they slept through the night. And then I couldn't wait for them to start walking. Or to be potty trained. But with the last one, I enjoyed every single second. And I plan to with this baby too. It goes by so quickly but I'm not sure you realize just how quickly until you're a little older. I didn't any way.jamesonsmamma -

Mercedes I know what you mean about staying home, I feel like my life was so much more organized when I was in school or working. It takes a lot of self control to keep busy, especially when you feel lazy. If I were at work I would have ignored that urge to do nothing but at home its so easy to just veg out and eat.gsummertime -

gsummertime, I have had 2 other kids. One I had at 20, one at 27, and this one I will be 38. I think there are pros and cons to having children early in life and later. I have an 18 year old who I drive to college (45 min away) once a week and take him to lunch just so I can spend time with him. Even though, my nieces and nephews think I am pretty cool, I am sure my son thinks I am a dork. It's funny though, he always makes sure I am driving him on Tues. On the other hand, my 11 year old is a mommas girl. She loves to hang out with me. However, I bet in 3 years things will change. I think if you love your kids and they know that then that's all that matters. Don't worry you sound like you will make a great mom!MRS.FIELDS -

What a day
I had spotting today and had to run to the hospital.
They checked the heart rate and did an U/S everything was normal
.I have been told as long as it is just pink there is nothing to worry about.
For a minute I thought I lost my Adam. What is really hard that I have no FAMILY here and my husband in Iraq so I had to go through this by myself
..It was awful.
I am praying that I wont deliver until my due date because that when my husband will be back !

Quiverfull--struggling with the same thing-being a night owl, then tired in the morning. Getting to working out and the morning is over. I'm also trying to get some kind of routine going. If any of you go from working full time to staying at home, it is an adjustment. No one giving me deadlines or me having my plans written for every day (teaching). I gotta get it together while I have one-on-one time with my daughter, cuz when it's over, it's over--little sister is on the way!gsummertime -

mercedes30 i wrote down the wording you gave for ways to correct them. it helps to have different words for the same message. communicates differently for different kiddos.
we're trying a new schedule/routine tomorrow for the whole family. there has been so much chaos lately! partly cuz i want to sleep the morning away! then exercise takes up the rest of the morning. so i think its time i woke up sooner and get our day started better. that's not gonna be easy with the preggo sleep i crave. if i could just break my night owl habit. but i really think that some of the discipline issues i am having are related to lack of routine. we homeschool and we can't afford to waste any time! i know the new baby won't make that any easier. sure hope the new routine works for us.
