Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 108 days until your due date on April 25, 2009.
You are 172 days pregnant.
You are 5.6 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: July 19, 2008 to October 17, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: October 18, 2008 to January 30, 2009. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: January 31, 2009 to April 25, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

This week your baby's crown-to-rump length is around 8.4 inches and your baby will weigh approximately 1.2 pounds. Although it weighs a little over a pound at this point, your growing baby is still tiny. Your uterus can easily be felt 1.5 to 2 inches above your bellybutton. The fetus does not appear to have much room in the uterus anymore, but as your pregnancy progresses, space gets much tighter!

Because your uterus is expanding and putting a great amount of pressure on your abdomen, you might get stretch marks. Your weight gain may also be taking a toll on your body at this point. Many pregnant women experience backaches, bladder problems, sore feet and fatigue that affect their daily routines. You might also have some nasal stuffiness or nosebleeds.

Your baby's face is basically complete now. The fetus's eyes are close together on the front of his face and they are still shut. Your baby's ears have moved into their final position on the sides of his head. Where they are now is where they will be when your baby is born! Hair will continue to grow on his scalp and his eyelashes are well developed. Most of your baby's features look the same as they will at birth. Because your growing baby is getting plumper, he no longer has room in your tummy to do cartwheels and somersaults.

Now is a good time to ask about prenatal classes being offered in your area. Many local hospitals offer classes for expectant women and their families. You should aim to complete the classes approximately one month before your due date.

You may sometimes get a stitch-like pain in your side from time to time. It's simply the muscles of the uterus stretching.
the unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair called lanugo. Its tender skin is protected by a waxy substance called vernix. Some of this substance may still be on the child's skin at birth at which time it will be quickly absorbed.

The child practices breathing by inhaling (up to a liter/day) amniotic fluid into developing lungs.

I love my high chair. I have an evenflo expressions high chair. It's height adjustable and REALLY easy to clean. It came with a top that sits on top of the actual tray and you can pop that right into the dish washer. Hasn't really stained either. It was a shower gift, but they run 60-80 dollars.

jktopel - 46 minutes ago
Does anyone have a recommend on a high chair that is super easy to clean? My current one is a nightmare. I am looking for a stand alone highchair, not one that you put on a normal chair. Thanks!!!

Maksmama - 2.2 hours ago
katanddan - so, do you believe in Ole Nessie? It would be pretty cool if she did exist.

katanddan - 2.4 hours ago
Maksmama-I did wonder what the Craiglist was lol .Edindurgh is very lovely ,we have friends there ,we are in Inverness ,the capital of the Highland Scotland ,the place where they say nessie live lol !!! We have a tattoo up here somewhat smaller i may add. Visitng around the festival time is great ,there is so much to see and do . I will try ebay for stroller ,might get a bargain ,half the battle is finding the make .

Maksmama - 2.8 hours ago
katanddan - I didn't look before I responded to see where you lived, but when you said 'boot' I knew it wasn't USA. You were probably thinking to yourself 'what the hell is Craiglist'. Anyway, I love Scotland. One of my favorite places I have visited. What a beautiful and wonderful country. We stayed in Edinburgh and happenend to be so lucky to be there during Festival and we even managed to score tickets to the Tattoo. It was totally unplanned and we just got so lucky. Good luck on the strollers. It can be such a pain to make those kind of decisions.

katanddan - 2.9 hours ago
Maksmama - Thanks for the reply its a nightmare trying to decide on which one is best .There is no point if it looks good but doesn't do the job.As you said lots of them just wont fit in the average boot. We have a Citreon c3 which is not a big car ,so we have to be really careful which system we buy .I will go look up the one you mentioned and thanks again :)

Maksmama - 3.5 hours ago
katanddan - My two kids aren't quite as close as yours, but I too was in the market for a good double stroller. I did a bunch of research and the one I liked the best was the Graco Quattro Tour Duo Stroller. It is so SWEET. I have it already. It folds up to basically the same size as a single stroller (although a little heavier of course) but that way it fits just fine in a normal car trunk. Many of the doubles are so long/bulky that they don't fit in car trunks. It also has this special handle design that makes its steering superior to the others (even the other Graco doubles). It is a little pricey ($260-270 new) but we bought ours used on Craiglist and it looks brand new. It is compatible with all of the Graco car seats and may work with other car seats, but not sure.

MomOfAlmost3AtHome - 3.7 hours ago
Okay ladies I am officially having a day. I do not feel pregnant I feel fat. I have already yelled at my kids trying to get them ready for school. He has to take this medicine that he doesn't like and I am sick and tired of trying to get him to take it. He is 6 and it is one quick swallow. I know I shouldn't let this get to me, and honestly I normally don't let that kind of thing set me off. I am thinking that if this is a hormone thing, I hope things mellow. In fact I just hope I can get through the day!

alidste - 4.3 hours ago
I have been having the whole bloody snot thing since my 16th week. One night, I blew my nose, and then all of a suddden, I had a nosebleed! Thankfully, I have had only one nosebleed, but everyday I blow my nose and its all bloody...ew, I know!!

augustbaby07 - 5.3 hours ago
Emily, I woke up sneezing at 4:30 this morning, wiped my nose and never thought twice about it. I sneeze again and look at my tissue and my nose was bleeding a little. I never had nose bleads with my first, I called my dr at like 8:00am and she said the membraines in your nose are softer during pregnancy and its very common to have nose bleeds.

mum4eva - 10 hours ago
ayla, i am not sure if it is what you describing but the pain i have is a burning sensation and for me it is just along the top. But i have a dodgy shaped uterus and that is what causes it for me, i think.

first babyboy - 14 hours ago
hey girls u need help nor questions answered or wanna chat hit me on my profile ok

jerika26 - 14.5 hours ago
p.s...I am part of the bloody snot team too.

jerika26 - 14.5 hours ago
ayla, I think it's just because it's so darn heavy and we're carrying it around all day. They actually have these small, little pillows to place under the side of your belly for when you sleep at night to prevent pain.

Kathren - 14.9 hours ago
OK so I guess I REALLY over did it last night. Earlier at work, I started to have some shortness of breath. I thought maybe it was the pants I was wearing and so decided to come home to change. I have been home since. I almost passed out driving home and have been having trouble breathing all day long. I called the doctor's office, but she was in surgery today. I spoke to my nurse and she asked me a ton of questions and she agreed that I must have over done it yesterday. So I have been in bed since 11:30 this morning and still not feeling all that great. Still feel out of breath completely. The nurse called me again a little while ago to remind me not to miss my appointment tomorrow and that the doctor will probably be checking a few things. I love my doctor's office. They actually care about us. At least that is how I feel. I hope everyone else is feeling ok. TTY all later.

ayla912 - 15.5 hours ago
My uterus is really sore to the touch, all around. Not like ligament pain or crampy. Just achy and sore. It's worse in the afternoon and evening. Does anyone else have this or know what causes it?

sheework - 17.9 hours ago
Hi ladies it's so good to see all of your stories I would have been right here with you but my journey ended early. I still pop in from time to time to see how everyone feels glad to see everyone is healthy and awaiting their new arrivals, Best wishes!!!!!!

chava81 - 18 hours ago
So my husband was just trying to listen to baby James heartbeat with the stethescope (sp?) and James punched or kicked it right on the little round disk thing! It was hilarious! My husband was freaking out! I guess James was having a party in there or something and didnt want to be bothered! HA!

katanddan - 19.1 hours ago
I have enjoyed reading about the different travel systems ,what i need to get advice on is twin pram/strollers ,can anyone help ? I am not having twins but lily will be just 14 months when this baby will be born.

chava81 - 19.4 hours ago
Thanks ladies for all the awnsers about the travel systems! I am going to go check out that Graco one now! This site is so great! Its so awesome to be able to ask people questions and have real awnsers!

chava81 - 19.4 hours ago
Oh, and it also says it on the text for this week. Look above =)

chava81 - 19.4 hours ago
Emily- I have NEVER in my life EVER had a nose bleed, but since 2 months preggo I have had blood in my snot when I blow my nose. I know its gross, sorry. So its not a nose bleed, but still very unusual since I have never had anything like that before. They said that it is normal in pregnancy to have nose bleeds, its because the sensitive tissues in your nose have more blood flowing to them. One book I read said that the tissues in your nose are much like the tissues in your vaginia and they will have more blood flow to them and be more sensitive.

jenn-ns - 20.7 hours ago
Heya Ladies! i had my ultrasound last Wednesday, Dec 31st... Doctor said baby boy measured 1 pound 12 ounces, heart was fine, and anatomy looked good. What a relief!! I go back Jan 28th for another u/s, but I don't mind!! We get to see our little man again!

Emily1019 - 20.8 hours ago
So last night I leaned over to kiss my husband and felt like my nose needed to be blown. I went to the bathroom and blew my nose and it was a ton of blood. It bled for about 20 minutes and then I started to spit blood up like it was snot coming from my nose or something it was GROSS! Sorry if this is TMI, but it was scary. Anyone know if nosebleeds are normal during pregnancy? I read that stuffiness and ocasional nose bleeds might be normal, but was wondering if anyone else had seen anything about it or experienced it? ayla-- I had that same feeling last night too. It took all of my energy just to take a shower. I was telling my DH that I felt short of breath and looked it up inmy pregnancy book and it said it was normal throughout pregnancy. Fun Fun.

ayla912 - 21.9 hours ago
Is anybody else (or everybody else) totally totally exhausted all the time? Sometimes just walking across the room seems like too much and my heart races. I am sooo tired, like I was in the first trimester. I can't imagine what it will be like two or three months from now. is this normal? maybe I'm anemic or something...

MomOfAlmost3AtHome - 22 hours ago
With the glucose test there is obviously a little bit of lee way since so many of you have gotten different answers. My doctor said that on the bottle it tells you to fast but sometimes it can make it hard to keep it down. He said not to eat anything heavy maybe just toast before I drink the orange soda. I have had the test two times before and been fine. Except that the stuff they make you drink always makes me belch like crazy, don't know why?

Maksmama - 23 hours ago
I was told not to fast this time, too. But I don't know why b/c last time (2 years ago) I had to. I was not allowed to eat anything after midnight last time. But this time they told me to eat normal. Who knows.

mommaT - 23.6 hours ago
With my first two pregnancies I was told to eat as I normally would but with my last two I had to fast. I just did mine today and it wasn't too bad.

amber-d - 1 days ago
I was told to fast with the one hour test as well...I've wondered if it would be better to have a little someting on my stomach. I will be taking mine in the next week. How is eating a little tricking the test? It's not like we fast normally. Just curious.

cheyenne - 1 days ago
jk- i dont know the reasoning but my Dr. told me to eat as normal. said that I didnt want to 'trick' the test.

augustbaby07 - 1 days ago
my doctor told me to basically fast, I only ate like toast and drank water until my glucose test last time.

ayla912 - 1 days ago
I was told I could eat or drink after I took the solution, as long as I drank the whole solution at once exactly an hour before they were to test me. I know there is a longer glucose test that requires fasting but they don't usually do that unless the first one comes up as having a problem or if you have a previous history.

jktopel - 1 days ago
Glucose testing- does anyone know why some doctors require fasting and others don't? I am supposed to fast before my 1 hour glucose test and I have heard other people say they were told to eat like normal.

Travel systems - My daughter will be just about 3 yrs old when I have this baby, so I'm going to get the Joovy Caboose Ultralight Tandem stroller. Look it up. I found it for $239 on Tinyrides.com. No shipping and I believe no tax. It has a bench seat in the back for the older child to sit on or stand. She loves standing in grocery carts so I'm sure she'll love this new stroller! U can hook on most car seats as well. I haven't gotten it yet, but will. It weighs 21 lbs! A lot better than the usual 35-40 lbrs.. That's craziness. Couldn't imagine lifting that into my car.

ellasmom08 - 1 days ago
Went in for my 24 week check-up and i was measured at 25 weeks. I also have to have another U/S cuz they think i might have a 2 vesseled umbilical cord instead of 3.hope all goes well.

Kathren - 1 days ago
chava81 - I use the same one that Maksmama uses and it is wonderful. We are going to continue using it for Aurora and just get the stroller that allows you to snap in the carrier, so we can continue using the big stroller for our son. Unfortunately, no matter what system you buy, when you look at reviews you are going to find someone who doesn't like the item. I found that to be true even with the Medela breastpump, which is supposedly the BEST pump on the market, yet if you go to the Babies R Us website there are some negative reviews. The best thing I can say is to get some advise from people you know that may already have children and see what they used. They see what is the prettiest and has the least amount of recalls. LOL!

Kathren - 1 days ago
asiebert - hey girl... I went through the same thing last night. My BH were so bad that I was actually in tears. Hubby reminded me about my breathing from our class last year when I was preggers w/my son and it helped so much. I just over did it yesterday. Was putting away Christmas stuff and moving furniture around because we are getting new couches and got a new TV, so I was excited over it and forgot about the whole 'oh yeah, I'm pregnant and shouldn't be lifting that' thing. I regretted it a bit last night, but I am fine today. I hope you start feeling better. Let us know how things are. Hope everyone else is doing well. TTY all soon.

Maksmama - 1 days ago
chava81 - we used a Graco (the Quattro Tour Deluxe) that comes with the larger car seat (hold baby up to 30 lbs) travel system and absolutely loved it. The stroller was so easy to fold up and the car seat just clicks into it. We just recently bought a Graco double stroller and our car seat works with it which is nice not to have to buy a whole new set for the second baby. I had no complaints at all about ours.

alidste - 1 days ago
Hey ladies! I just found this website a couple of weeks ago, and signed up today! I love this website, and reading everyone's posts....Hope everyone is doing well today!

asiebert - 1 days ago
So I called the doctor and he wanted me to come in because I was in so much pain. It was braxton hicks and my sciatic nerve. They said those can be very painful...soo I also have been lifting some stuff that I shouldnt be..and they told me to stop. This was the scariest thing that has ever happend to me. I was a wreck thinkin I was going to go into labor..I am def going to listen to the doctors and rest and stay off my feet. Have a good week ladies!!!

monique28 - 2 days ago
Oh a above forgot to add this he will need you before you need him remember that!

monique28 - 2 days ago
above I'm going through the same thing and all i can say is keep your head up because in the end he will realize its cheaper to keep her(meaning You). My Baby Daddy( his status now) is doing me the same way but I work and keep moving everyday, talk to other men now and when he come around i cuss his ass out. I have keyed the truck we own together, went to jail for fighting him, and I must tell you no matter how you lash out it stills hurt, but each day gets better, Your not ugly hell I'm not ugly and I know once I drop this baby it's own, So listen to the Beyounce song put a ring on it and keep yourself happy!

chava81 - 2 days ago
Ugggg is anyone else feeling totally stressed out with their registry yet? I know, maybe a little early, but I was just doing some research on travel systems and checking out the reviews on them, and its like every one of them has something that people dont like, and something that people do like. So how do you choose one? I dont want to spend that much money only to end up hating the thing, or having the baby hate it! Do you guys have any suggestions for strollers or car seats or travel systems?

Emily1019 - 2 days ago
asiebert--Braxton Hicks CAN be very painful. I woke up in tears one night thinking I was going into labor or something, but it was only Braxton Hicks I think! It was a shooting pain that went up my back from my uterus. IT WAS AWFUL! DH thought I was crazy, but he helped. Don't freak out yet, wait an hour or so and if it is still bad, I would call the doctor who is on call.

mum4eva - 2 days ago
asiebert, if it is like period pain, call your Doc for sure. BH, are not painful. If you are having contractions, it is better to get to them to stop now.

jerika26 - 2 days ago
asiebert-does it feel like contractions? If it is that painful you might want to go get check out. I get Braxton Hicks, but they are just uncomfortable, not painful. It's better safe than sorry if it is hurting that bad.

asiebert - 2 days ago
PLEASE HELP!!! I HAVE BEEN CRAMPING REALLY BAD TONIGHT AND IT HURTS SOOOO BAD!!! iS THIS NORMAL. ITS LIKE BAD PERIOD CRAMPS. IF I LAY BACK THEN ITS NOT AS BAD BUT IF I BEND FORWARD THEN IT HURTS SOOO BAD! IS THIS NORMAL OR SHOULD I CALL THE DOCTOR???

lucysmomma - 2 days ago
mkmom that would be BH contractions. It doesn't mean you are in labor or anything. It is just your body preparing itself for what is to come. I get them all the time especially if i am working or working out. Nothing to worry about.

mum4eva - 2 days ago
mkmom, yes that sounds just like branxton hicks, they are perfectly normal and you will get more as your pregnancy progresses. It does feel strange though.

mkmom - 2 days ago
Hi girls!!! Happy New Year! I hope everyone is doing great! I have a question...I've been kinda freaking out...few times a day I fells like my belly gets really tight and hard and then few seconds later goes back to normal. It doesnt hurt at all it just feels weird..And also it turn into a big funny bump...some times on one side or the other. This happened to me since really really early but I just though it was the baby like balling in one place. But now I'm nervous...could it be braxton hicks contractions??? Anyone feeling this???Tkss
