Congratulations! This week marks the half way point of your pregnancy. It has been 18 weeks since the date of conception and your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.6 to 6.4 inches. The fetus weighs about 9 ounces and your belly definitely has an obvious bulge. Your waistline has expanded and is no longer visible. Your uterus has now moved up enough that it is pushing your abdomen outwards. The top of your uterus is even with or just below your navel.

For the remainder of your pregnancy, the growing uterus puts pressure on your lungs, stomach and kidneys. This will make you feel short of breath, the need to urinate more frequently and can cause indigestion. The added pressure on your abdomen can also cause your bellybutton to protrude and cause an `outy` instead of an `inny`. Many pregnant women begin to notice stretch marks around this time as well. Your abdominal muscles are being stretched and pushed apart as your baby grows inside of you.

Your baby's skin begins to thicken this week and will develop four layers. Your baby's sebaceous glands secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa. Your baby will be born with this wax and it will look like paste. The vernix caseosa is crucial because it protects the fetus' fragile skin from the continuous immersion in amniotic fluid. Lanugo hairs secure the vernix caseosa in place and it is thick around the eyebrows. Scalp hair and toenails are beginning to form at this point. Hair can also be seen on the upper lip and eyebrows.

Around twenty weeks, most doctors will order a routine ultrasound to check the baby's development. Measurements will be taken and the sonogram technician will check to make sure there are no defects or abnormalities. Your ultrasound technician can also see how long your cervix is and can tell you approximately how much your baby weighs at this time. Most expectant women also find out the sex of their baby during this time! If your sonographer does not offer pictures, ask them for a copy of the photos.

Hello Ladies. Hope everyone is doing fine. I have an appoiment tomorrow,I will get the reasults of the amnio, I'm praying everything is ok with my baby. About the sex of the baby last Ultrasounf doctor said it looks like a girl but is not for sure yet.

Anyone has ideas for a 'babymoon', i need to take a vacation before I have the baby. Actually up until end of March i can travel after that its a no no i wont be able to travel. I thought about hawaii but thats 3 1/2 hours on a plane. I'm in california. Any ideas about a destination to go to relax before I give birth???

Only one more sleep till the big ultrasound. Hopefully all goes well and we can finally know baby's gender :) I have an appointment with the midwife this afternoon, hoping to hear the heartbeat and be reassured all is well. Now the day will go so slow cause im so excited :(

JW0217- I am one that has a sometimesy baby. LOL Over the weekend he didnt move much yet yesterday and today he has been kicking like crazy. I'm definitely not skinny, so dont think size has anything to do with it. Get a doppler to hear the heartbeat or movements within your belly. Of course checking with your Dr. with your concern is valid in my opinion. My back, legs, feet, hips hurt daily also. walking even make me feel unbalanced although my belly has alot more growing to do. My headaches have eased up, which is good I didnt like taking tylenol at all. Try to relax. I have a desk job so I can sit and get up from time to time. There's a mile hike to the bathroom in this building too. LOl j/k Take it easy.

milli my ultrasound pic on my page shows the lines and the middle one looks longer too! LoL i thought that meant it was a little winky or something! I was determined to have a boy so i spent hours after my ultrasound looking at pics of other peoples ultrasounds on the web comparing! i am convinced its a girl like she said now lol maybe looking at mine will help some..?

JW0217- Not feeling the baby right now is perfectly normal for a few reasons. One could be that the baby is facing towards your spine, another that your placenta is in the way, or that your uterine walls are fairly thick. This is my third and I JUST started feeling regular movements the other day but they still aren't real strong. I started feeling them at 12 weeks but then nothing for a while and then they turned to occasional jabs every 4 days and now they evened out. With my last two pregnancies I was feeling them regularly and strong much earlier. As for pains, I walk my daughter to school and back everyday and I get sharp pains in my legs, hips, vagina, and lower abdomen. Baby likes to settle in weird positions and sometimes pushes on your sciatic nerve. I have tailbone issues from my last pregnancy because I broke my tailbone during labor so the pains are quite strong but it is all still very normal. I hope this eases your mind a bit and just remember every pregnancy is different. None of my three have been the same or even close to the same at all. :o)

Okay, I've got a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me out with. 1st I'm not a small woman and I'm concerned because I still have not really felt the baby move a lot. Is this normal at this stage in the game. Sometimes I think I feel movement and other times I'm not sure if it's just my mind playing tricks on me. My doctor says the baby seems fine. HB is 152bpm. I'm just nervous because with my son I felt everything from the flutter to the full blown kicks and with this baby everything seems so different. Anyone else not feeling a lot of movement?? 2nd Does anyone else have odd pains? My hips hurt, my lower back hurts, my knees hurt... not all at the same time but it seems like something ALWAYS hurts... is this normal?? Thanks ladies for all your help. I love this site and am so glad we are not in this alone!!! Congrats to all who have felt movement and have found out the sex already. I just pray that everything is okay with this baby. :)

I have always found it funny that they can't be 100% on gender determination but they can be 100% on all the other things they check and measurements. Never makes sense to me.

Ok ladies I had my ultra sound yesterday and one time she was like it's a boy then she was like nope I think it's a girl then she was like no now I think it's a boy. I'm not sure that to think. She said she has been wrong several times and the pic I have you really can't tell. What do I do??? She said 70% boy but that isn't good enough to make me buy blue yet. What do you all think I should do??

So many people are finding out if they're having a boy or girl. I have to wait 9 more days. The baby was kicking up a storm yesterday and I was able to feel it from the outside where my hand actually moved. Pretty cool. My hubby still hasn't felt it yet though. I'm so excited to be halfway today!!!!

Hi ladies! We found out that were having a baby girl yesterday! Very happy and surprised! Weve been thinking blue for 5 months now! Spent 3 hours registering at babies r us yesterday, by boyfriend went gun crazy! It was super cute! Im just wondering how accurate the results are because I had no idea what she was looking at?

Oh, and i was so excited cus i was i was going to make a 4d ultrasound appointment, and find out the sex of the baby while there, but then i called and they said they don't recommend it till after 25 weeks and if i can wait, preferrable after 27 weeks. They can do a fast gender determination for $65, but my boyfriend is being too cheap and said i should just be patient and wait till after the recommended time and then we'll get it all done at the same time, and i'm being too impatient. Everybody seems to be going in to look at there baby's sex, and i'm just trying to patiently wait...This is going to kill me 5-7 more weeks seems like forever to find out!! I might just have to go in without telling him... But i wouldn't be able to keep that kind of secret from him, especially if they give me pics. OH what to do what to do!

Went to my ultrasound today. Had my hopes up that we could find out the sex. Baby is breech though, so they couldn't see between the legs. Not gonna lie, I am pretty bummed. They will do another ultrasound in 4 weeks though. Doc said everything looked great though, and the baby will probably move into the proper position in the not too distant future. Not gonna lie though, pretty freaking bummed :o(

somebody describe braxton hicks for me please? I get this pressure feels like a cramp. Feels a lil tight also, but is been 12 years since my only other child. I plan on getting the 3/4D but around week 30 or so...maybe sooner like you say 28 weeks. I keep imagining how my baby will look, you know wondering whos features he will have, mine vs his dads. They are great keepsakes too for when your child is 3-5 years old and will be very amused to see themselves when they were in mommys belly!

I had my u/s today and got to see the baby! so awesome. I can't wait to go to the dr. next week to confirm everything is good with the baby! We didn't find out the sex. I guess it'll be a surprise!

Ok, so congrats to all you getting the ultra sound scan to view your baby and make sure she/he is healthy thus far. I went to my appt. (so I thought) jan 2, yet she only listened to the heartbeat and told me i had schedule the U/S in another dept. Well... when scheduling they only had JAN 30th available. Hello, I was pissed. Thats hecka weeks away and right around NOW is the time we should have one to make sure everythings growing ok with the baby. See, thats why Im glad I paid that $95 to do the 2D ultra sound at 3DbabyVU, otherwise I'd still be wondering whether Im having a girl or boy. But I still have to be patient for the appt. to make sure everythings looking good for the baby. Patience ....Ugghhhhhh

anyone having a 4d scan? im having one about 28weeks im really excited for it. i suffer from ashma but only mild and when i walk somewhere for like 10mins i start to get out of breath and now ive got a bad cough do you think i should call the midwife and see what she says?.... my baby doesnt move that much and im jelous that most of your lot does.. im saying that now and i bet the baby will kick me hard hehe... good luck ladies comment me on my page if you like and my pics too. xx thanks you xxx

Had my glucose test today. Yuck! That stuff is too sweet. Held my nose and slammed it. Blah! Doc thinks I have a bladder infection. Won't know any of the lab or urine results until maybe Wed. Excited cause 2morrw we go for our level 2 ultrasound. Praying the baby will finally let us know if boy or girl.

I have had severe asthma since I was 6 years old and I have to regularly see a pulmonary doctor for tests and changes with my inhalers and meds. They told me shortness of breath and the feeling of having an attack is normal in pregnancy and is not an actual asthma attack. In fact they told me it isn't asthma related at all. I 100% believe it because my inhalers do nothing when I feel like I can't breathe lately. This is my third baby and once the baby drops I can usually breathe ten times better. With everything being pushed up, it is common to feel out of breath or like you are having an attack but people without asthma get the same feelings.

Ive started to buy some things also, just make sure you keep the season in mind. My family bought the baby a few things and there all long sleeve. I know it's cause that's what's in the stores now but it will be warm when the baby comes.

Are there any asthmatics here that feel like their asthma is worse lately? I feel like i've been using my inhaler a lot lately. Aside from that, feeling lots more movement lately, so nice and reassuring. Can't wait till my husband can feel it from the outside! 4 days till i get to find out baby's sex :)

I found out on Friday that I'm having a boy!!! I am quite excited. We thought it was going to be a girl, but we are happy either way as long as the baby is healthy and the baby is healthy. 11 ounces. I saw the baby moving his arms in front of his face and kicking his legs. He was moving quite a bit. I can feel him a lot more in the last couple weeks. I ate a little too much sugar at our party the other night when we introduced the sex and he kept me up all night I won't do that again! I can't wait for my husband to feel him from the outside. We already have the name picked out... Landon Michael. :) I am so excited!

First-time-mum-18, nose bleeds are normal, Ive seen my sister go through those. As far as buying items for the baby; go ahead. Even though we still have 20 weeks left, time will fly. I am actually going to start buying baby items in February. This is an exciting time for all of us so buy it and enjoy it :)
