Dates and numbers:
There are 137 days until your due date on May 24, 2009.
You are 143 days pregnant.
You are 4.7 months pregnant.
You are in your 5th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: August 17, 2008 to November 15, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: November 16, 2008 to February 28, 2009. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: March 01, 2009 to May 24, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Congratulations! This week marks the half way point of your pregnancy. It has been 18 weeks since the date of conception and your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.6 to 6.4 inches. The fetus weighs about 9 ounces and your belly definitely has an obvious bulge. Your waistline has expanded and is no longer visible. Your uterus has now moved up enough that it is pushing your abdomen outwards. The top of your uterus is even with or just below your navel.

Sex organs are showing clearly on this girl

For the remainder of your pregnancy, the growing uterus puts pressure on your lungs, stomach and kidneys. This will make you feel short of breath, the need to urinate more frequently and can cause indigestion. The added pressure on your abdomen can also cause your bellybutton to protrude and cause an `outy` instead of an `inny`. Many pregnant women begin to notice stretch marks around this time as well. Your abdominal muscles are being stretched and pushed apart as your baby grows inside of you.

Your baby's skin begins to thicken this week and will develop four layers. Your baby's sebaceous glands secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa. Your baby will be born with this wax and it will look like paste. The vernix caseosa is crucial because it protects the fetus' fragile skin from the continuous immersion in amniotic fluid. Lanugo hairs secure the vernix caseosa in place and it is thick around the eyebrows. Scalp hair and toenails are beginning to form at this point. Hair can also be seen on the upper lip and eyebrows.

Around twenty weeks, most doctors will order a routine ultrasound to check the baby's development. Measurements will be taken and the sonogram technician will check to make sure there are no defects or abnormalities. Your ultrasound technician can also see how long your cervix is and can tell you approximately how much your baby weighs at this time. Most expectant women also find out the sex of their baby during this time! If your sonographer does not offer pictures, ask them for a copy of the photos.

somebody describe braxton hicks for me please? I get this pressure feels like a cramp. Feels a lil tight also, but is been 12 years since my only other child. If you've had braxton hicks, please describe it to me. Oh and GAS. I have really bad GAS everyday and after every meal. No matter what I eat.

shanidm - 5.8 hours ago
I plan on getting the 3/4D but around week 30 or so...maybe sooner like you say 28 weeks. I keep imagining how my baby will look, you know wondering whos features he will have, mine vs his dads. They are great keepsakes too for when your child is 3-5 years old and will be very amused to see themselves when they were in mommys belly!

butterfly3 - 6 hours ago
I had my u/s today and got to see the baby! so awesome. I can't wait to go to the dr. next week to confirm everything is good with the baby! We didn't find out the sex. I guess it'll be a surprise!

alishadan3 - 6.5 hours ago
When I am driving I feel like my eyes are playing tricks on me. I get blurred vision then I get a lil anxiety. What is this all about....sometimes I even feel like I am gonna pass out, but I don't.

Ok, so congrats to all you getting the ultra sound scan to view your baby and make sure she/he is healthy thus far. I went to my appt. (so I thought) jan 2, yet she only listened to the heartbeat and told me i had schedule the U/S in another dept. Well... when scheduling they only had JAN 30th available. Hello, I was pissed. Thats hecka weeks away and right around NOW is the time we should have one to make sure everythings growing ok with the baby. See, thats why Im glad I paid that $95 to do the 2D ultra sound at 3DbabyVU, otherwise I'd still be wondering whether Im having a girl or boy. But I still have to be patient for the appt. to make sure everythings looking good for the baby. Patience ....Ugghhhhhh

Had my glucose test today. Yuck! That stuff is too sweet. Held my nose and slammed it. Blah! Doc thinks I have a bladder infection. Won't know any of the lab or urine results until maybe Wed. Excited cause 2morrw we go for our level 2 ultrasound. Praying the baby will finally let us know if boy or girl.

babyphillips - 15.2 hours ago

luvduck84 - 15.3 hours ago

ambiep - 15.4 hours ago
mominmay - I am the same way! I feel him move sometimes but not a whole bunch. I am a bigger girl and am wondering if that might be why? Any suggestions anyone? This is my first pregnancy

JSue628 - 15.9 hours ago
I have had severe asthma since I was 6 years old and I have to regularly see a pulmonary doctor for tests and changes with my inhalers and meds. They told me shortness of breath and the feeling of having an attack is normal in pregnancy and is not an actual asthma attack. In fact they told me it isn't asthma related at all. I 100% believe it because my inhalers do nothing when I feel like I can't breathe lately. This is my third baby and once the baby drops I can usually breathe ten times better. With everything being pushed up, it is common to feel out of breath or like you are having an attack but people without asthma get the same feelings.

JW0217 - 16.1 hours ago

Ive started to buy some things also, just make sure you keep the season in mind. My family bought the baby a few things and there all long sleeve. I know it's cause that's what's in the stores now but it will be warm when the baby comes.

lovinlife - 1 days ago
krash01~ I feel the same way. I've been hitting my inhaler a lot recently as well. Hopefully I'll go back to normal once I have the baby. Besides from that, me and my SO have 12 short hours till we find out what we're having, as long as gummy wants to show us!! YAY, wish us luck!!

CaidenEdwardsMommy - 1 days ago

krash01 - 1 days ago
Are there any asthmatics here that feel like their asthma is worse lately? I feel like i've been using my inhaler a lot lately. Aside from that, feeling lots more movement lately, so nice and reassuring. Can't wait till my husband can feel it from the outside! 4 days till i get to find out baby's sex :)

kimberlydu - 1 days ago
I found out on Friday that I'm having a boy!!! I am quite excited. We thought it was going to be a girl, but we are happy either way as long as the baby is healthy and the baby is healthy. 11 ounces. I saw the baby moving his arms in front of his face and kicking his legs. He was moving quite a bit. I can feel him a lot more in the last couple weeks. I ate a little too much sugar at our party the other night when we introduced the sex and he kept me up all night I won't do that again! I can't wait for my husband to feel him from the outside. We already have the name picked out... Landon Michael. :) I am so excited!

shanidm - 1 days ago
I have been shopping too! mostly 6-9 months or over seeing most people will buy you other things for your newborn during the baby shower.

maybaby509 - 1 days ago

A2NDCHANCE - 1 days ago
First-time-mum-18, nose bleeds are normal, Ive seen my sister go through those. As far as buying items for the baby; go ahead. Even though we still have 20 weeks left, time will fly. I am actually going to start buying baby items in February. This is an exciting time for all of us so buy it and enjoy it :)

Pinkexecutioner - 2 days ago

leslieroe - 2 days ago
shanidm- I bought an Angelsounds brand doppler on ebay for around $40 and it works fine. I cant always hear his heartbeat, but i can always hear movement- even the little movements i cant feel. I dont really mind not hearing the heartbeat everytime as long as i can hear something!

JSUE- i have been getting BH contractions since 14 weeks i believe. very early and i still get them every day. i didnt know what was going on at first cuz i never got them with my first child. they dont hurt but like you said, they can be uncomortable.

mominmay - 2 days ago
Hi all , I will be at 21 weeks on Monday and I cant feel my baby yet.It is worrying me.Anyone else in the same boat?

lulu76 - 2 days ago
I am starting to freak out a little and just realised that my darling little one is arriving in less than four months. Eekk. We have HEAPS to do on the house renovations and not alot of spare cash, I am worried we won't be finished in time. And to top it off I can barely walk due to my hips hurting so much, I am really tired and I still have morning sickness! Phew, needed that vent, thanks! :) But really I am so grateful for everyting I have especially my little bubs. Hope everyone is doing well.

shanidm - 2 days ago
I just added two pics from week 16 of my baby. They say their sure its a boy. Anyone have girl ultra sounds pics? As ridiculous as it sounds.... I want to be SURE SURE. Have heard the stories of women told they were having a boy and had a girl...Someone Reassure me! As silly as it sounds....

JSue628 - 2 days ago
Oh and I bought one of those prenatal dopplers and I haven't heard anything. Then I read the directions and it says you can begin using it in the third trimester. So it will be going in the garage sale box after this pregnancy lol.

JSue628 - 2 days ago
Oh yeah the doctors exact words to me on the braxton hicks contractions were....'you are just going to have to deal with them!' She said especially women on their second and third, forth etc babies, they get them a lot because your body already knows what it is doing. I believe it but they are uncomfortable and annoying. I never got them with my first baby. With my second I got them the last 2 months and this one is already happening at 20 weeks.

cheyenne - 2 days ago
shani- i rented mine from storknet, i have had it since july. it is the same one my dr. uses in the office. $35 a month.

shanidm - 2 days ago
Has anyone rented a prenatal doppler? Anyone using anything to listen to their baby's heartbeat? I bought one of those bebe prenatal things, but it doesnt work nearly as good as the one my Dr. uses. Any advise? I'm thinking or renting one, for the remaining 4 months, LOLOLOL.

alishadan3 - 2 days ago
I'm having the contractions too. I couldn't feel them with my first child but I can with this one. It happens to me several times a day. It is even very uncomfortable sometimes. Hope that doesn't mean the real thing is going to be really bad....

maciandmiasmommy - 2 days ago
..i also have been enjoying 'playing' with my little one for the last 2 days :) i can finally feel her moving from the outside and i can lay there for almost 30 or 45 minutes poking back at her..its so neat Lol

maciandmiasmommy - 2 days ago
JSUE628..i am SO glad to hear that someone else has been experiencing braxton hicks contractions a lot. i get them almost everyday and i didnt really notice them with my other 2 children. with this one it is SO SO obvious! its not painful but very obvious.

mytinylittlemiracle - 2 days ago

I love watching everybody's bellies grow! I'm so glad i found this website. Half of our pregnancy journey is over! Can you believe it??

JSue628 - 3 days ago
A2ndChance- Yes those are perfectly normal it is called round ligament pain. Although scary it is a normal part of the uterus stretching to accommodate the growing baby. I was at the doctor yesterday for bleeding and pressure and they gave me a list of common worries that are actually nothing to worry about at all and that is on there as well as braxton hicks contractions. With this being my third baby, she told me I am going to be getting a TON of braxton hicks and boy have I been getting them!

emmaleanne - 3 days ago
i get sharp pains in my lower left side too, especially when i stand up to quickly or cough! but ive asked other people and it seems that its just because th uterus is stretching and growing, nothing to worry about im sure!

mamatess - 3 days ago
Hi Ladies!!! I would like to offer my gently-worn, but good-looking pregnancy clothes to anyone who would like them and will pay the postage. I would simply send them COD, and you can have them! The colours are mostly blues and greens, sizes 22-28 (depending on my state of pregnancy!). Most of them are 'business casual' as I work in an office. I'm in Los Angeles, so I would suggest this be a woman in the US. If you are interested, send me a private note to my page here, and I will give you my personal email for your address. First come, first served, I guess! Good luck with EVERYONE's pregnancy!

A2ndChance - 3 days ago
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY I AM HAVING LITTLE SHARP PAINS IN MY STOMACH ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE.

kimmygideon - 3 days ago
We are going to have another scan done on Feb 2nd and I am going to have them check again just to make sure. I am so ready to decorate the nursery. When my sister was preggo she was told it was going to be a little boy and when the baby popped out they let her know it was a beautiful baby girl.....what a shock! I am going to have them look one more time.
