Dates and numbers:
There are 184 days until your due date on July 10, 2009.
You are 96 days pregnant.
You are 3.1 months pregnant.
You are in your 4th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: October 03, 2008 to January 01, 2009. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: January 02, 2009 to April 16, 2009. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: April 17, 2009 to July 10, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

This is the last week of your first trimester and your baby weighs 14 to 20 grams. The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 2.6 to 3.1 inches. Your baby is now about the size of a peach. Fetal growth is amazing from now through about the 24th week of pregnancy.

A 13 week old fetus by SONOReal 3D ultrasound imaging

At this point of your pregnancy, there is a steady flow of pregnancy hormones in your bloodstream. Your body will adjust to the changes and morning sickness might stop and other early symptoms will begin to ease. Because the second trimester is approaching, feelings of anxiety or nervousness may also diminish. You have probably gained some weight by now. You are losing your waist and your clothing is probably fitting snugly.

There is a milky membrane that surrounds your baby. It is pierced by the umbilical cord and is made up of two layers, which are fused together. Your placenta provides most of the nutrients and oxygen that your baby needs. By this week, the placenta is well formed and ready to take over hormone manufacture from your ovaries. The placenta will produce progesterone and estriol. These hormones will be crucial in the maintenance of your pregnancy. Tissue that will form your baby's bones is being laid down, especially around the head and limbs. The nose and chin are becoming more prominent. Your baby's eyelids meet and fuse together and they will not open again for nearly four months. The eyes started out on the side of your baby's head and they are now moving closer together on the face. The ears come to lie in their normal position on the sides of the head. If examined outside of the womb, you will be able to distinguish male from female at this time.

The sockets for all twenty teeth are formed in the gums, and vocal cords are beginning to form.

Yay, first day in week 13. I am so excited. Only a few hours to go, and I am going to my gynae, for my first scan.... Maybe we will get to know the sex. She could tell at 13 weeks with my son.

vistasrascal - 3.9 hours ago
Hey ladies, I was just reading around and it seems like a lot of us in the last few weeks have been having some troubles with bleeding. I went in last Tuesday for some spotting and was told my cervix looked like it was opening and then my doctor put me on bedrest. I had blood drawn at the ER Tuesday and then had to go back Thursday for a second draw to check my HCG levels. I got a call from the ER today telling me that my levels were rising like they were supposed to, but then when I went to my doctor he told me they dropped by 1,000. I now have to go in tomorrow for more blood work and an u/s, not that I mind getting another u/s. Anyway, I did some research and found that it's supposedly normal for the levels to drop. Have any of you had this experience? My doctor was able to find the heart beat today, and I haven't had any bleeding since that one day. Any help would be good. Thanks so much.

lindyloo - 4 hours ago
Aahhhhh I'm having such a boring day!!!! It's beautiful weather here but I have no motivation to go outside, LOL.

sydneysmommy930 - 5.6 hours ago
Hey ladies, today is my first day in week 13. I had my NT scan done today and the tech was already able to tell the sex of our baby. It's a boy!! I was hoping I would be able to find out early but didn't get my hopes up. We saw everything very clearly on the u/s and there was no mistaking it! He is a boy!! lol

sydneysmommy930 - 5.6 hours ago
Nikki I take 5mg hydrocodone also due to degenerative disc disease and 3 bulging discs. My doc says it's okay as well. I also took advil a few times because I had no tylenol. I read that advil was okay only if you don't take it frequently. I haven't in a few weeks and won't again but I had a horrible headache and was just miserable.

joybird - 9.3 hours ago
Hi..new to the site..first baby, too. just wondered if anyone else has had bad aches in lower right back. mine kept me up almost all night. finally caved and took tylenol.

hoping4baby1 - 9.4 hours ago
hey ladies i was reading the posts and noticed the info about tylenol (acetaminophen) and advil (ibuprofen) and thought I would add a little bit more info that might help. Tylenol is safe during pregnacy. Advil is not, one reason is because like aspirin it can thin your blood, thus increasing the risk of bleeding. It does this whether you are pregnant or not, it's just like everything else in pregnancy this side effect is more dangerous. Hope this helps!!! Have a great day!

granolamommie - 11.6 hours ago
Tessa, your husband withdrawing is normal (but not fun) - keep reaching out to him, find supporting friends who you can lean on in the mean time. I'm higher risk for DS because of my age, so we are going through the whole 'keep a positive outlook' thing too - good luck and be gentle to yourself and your husband, too!

hadhas - 11.9 hours ago
Today is my first day in week 13! :-) I am totally showing and people at work are jumping back and saying 'wow' in surprise because I have really popped in the last couple of weeks. There is no hiding it. I don't know how many people today have asked if I am having twins. (According to my dr. and 4 ultrasounds I am not!)

BabyTucci - 12 hours ago
ok thanks, I couldnt remember exactly what is was. I do know that it causes harm to the baby. Thats all I needed to know.

junerewind - 12.1 hours ago
Please check with your doctors, but acetaminophen is Tylenol and is safe. Advil is ibuprofen and messes with the baby's circulatory system (according to my OB/GYN).

BabyTucci - 12.2 hours ago
I'm trying to remember- I know Tylenol is safe. But what is in Advil that is so dangerous? I'll have to call me doc. I want to find out.

nikkic204 - 12.2 hours ago
hi im from 12 weeks but i wanted to comment on the pain meds . I also have had to take 5mg hydrocodone perscribed(generic for percocet) due to back pain, and doc says its okay to take..and he says only prolonged use will affect the baby otherwise it will not harm the fetus if taken as directed.. but i was also told by 2 docs that acetemenophin (tylenol) is completely safe also!

BabyTucci - 13.1 hours ago
I just read what I wrote- I meant to say that Acetaminophen is what harms the baby. Also, my doc said to not take it close to the end of pregnancy b/c I could test positive for opiates, and social workers could get involved.

BabyTucci - 13.2 hours ago
cheyenne- I felt so guilty for taking a half of a pill. I'm finding other docs have different views on this (that I'm finding out). I remember my doc saying something about Acetaminophen, and wont harm your baby. I would just take as need. You never know! Hope this helps!

cheyenne - 13.4 hours ago
BabyTucci- I am from week 37 but your post is interesting to me. Did he tell you why Hydrocodone was better? I was prescribed it at 29 weeks and took a couple but couldnt get my brain around taking anymore than that even though Dr. okay'd it. Just wondering if you had anymore information because there are times that man I could really use 1.

BabyTucci - 13.4 hours ago
Shelby- I was given 5mg Hydrocodone for the pain. I was so scared to take it at first. On Friday, I had my prenatal visit. The doc told me that Hydrocodone was so much better than taking OTC Advil/Ibuprofen (cant spell). That the over the counter medicine could do more damage to the baby than this narcotic. Interesting! 2 more days until the big day.

shelby34 - 13.5 hours ago
BabyTucci ~ I thought of you yesterday..I was cleaning the kitchen and I wound up getting a shooting pain in my tooth and I thought of your situation... What do they give pregnant women for a painkiller?

ces - 14.5 hours ago
thanks guys

BabyTucci - 14.7 hours ago
Oh boy, I hope the vinegar works. I might throw up. I do hate heartburn. Humm... I would atleast have to try it once. Anything to get rid of the heartburn.

hmbrown - 14.9 hours ago
Good Morning girls. I have a quick cure for heartburn that works in seconds and is perfectly safe. You can even take it before every meal. Try a spoonful of apple cider vinegar. It works immediately (taste isn't great, but not to bad.)

13yearslater - 15 hours ago
Ces- I had a cold about a month ago and my doc and pharmacist said sudafed was ok to take.

BabyTucci - 15.2 hours ago
Ces- can you call your new doc to ask? I heard that was the only thing you can take. I would check with someone just in case!

ces - 15.6 hours ago
hey every one ive had a cold since new year day and i've avoided taking anything yet. my husband is worried that not taking something could harm the baby while i feel like i should abstain from any drugs as long as i can. i have an appointment with a new ob/gyn in 2 days but would like to know. what do you think? dr google says its ok to take benadryl... should i? thanks

Stacy B 1976 - 16.4 hours ago
Got my prenatal visit today...hoping nothing but good reports. I've been up at night ranging from 1-2 hours in the middle of the night for the last week or so which is VERY unusual for me- hope it goes away soon. I felt a 'flutter' for the first time last night and it was NOT gas...so exciting! Hope everyone is doing well today.

BabyTucci - 16.6 hours ago
Good Morning everyone! Once again- I'm bored at work! How is everyone doing today? 2 more days until my root canal! Oh, I'm so dreading this one.

Hi I am new. One reason I came on is becuase I am stressed over taking the CVS test this Thursday. Stressed it does not cause a miscarrige. Stressed the test come back Negative for Down Syndrome. Dr. Told me after some test I have a one in five chance of having a down syndrome baby... Mostly I am positive that I have a health baby due to by belief in God and having a very positive dream(I know sounds Wierd) But my Husband is not positive and has become withdrawn and not supportive which is something I have not experience from him before...... Anyway looking for well wishes/ prayer or good thoughts And anyone who can relate.

BusyCaliforniaMom - 1 days ago
For everyone experiencing heartburn - try Zantac 75. It's an over the counter antacid that is very safe to take while pregnant. In both of my pregnancies I've had terrible heartburn and my doctors have suggested this lower dose of Zantac.

Gidget1012 - 2 days ago
I've had acid reflux for years. I'm hoping for me that it doesn't increase with pregnancy, thinking positive here. ;o) For me, heartburn is a feeling of acid/burning sensation in my throat. It generally is worse if I eat too soon before bed or eat something too acidic like tomato sauce or oranges. I try to just take Tums but they don't really work for me. When I am desperate, my Dr said it was okay to take Pepcid.

angtay - 2 days ago
I have been having horrible heartburn as well the last few nights. Mine is more of a acid reflux feeling then an actual buring feeling though. But it is so uncomfortable right in th emiddle of my chest and throat that I can't lie flat or it just kills. I will be starting to take the tums as well.

starlyte - 2 days ago
I was in the kitchen this morning making a cuppa tea when i had a coughing fit. During the cough my back completely seized up. I was able to stand up straight again after about 5mins (and my hubby rubbing my back), but my lower back has been hurting continually since then. It hurts to lift my legs up (even to walk) or even to shift on a chair. Is it worth going to see a dr about it or is it something that should be waited out? As long as I sit really still it doesn't hurt but the moment I move I get spasms shoot out all over and it bloody hurts!

BabyLove* - 2 days ago
Hey Guys.. Morning sickness has finally died down but HOLY MOLY, I believe I have began to experience heartburn! I have never had this before and it actually woke me up.. I was in so much pain. I am not 100% sure if it was but when I took some antacid's it went away.. Anybody else experiencing this?? If so where exactly does heartburn hurt (that way I know if that is what I am experiencing). I would almost rather have m/s than heartburn! haha

msmillsap08 - 2 days ago
I just uploaded some new pics of me from 11-13 wks in my blogs if u girls wanna check them out and we can compare bellies. lol

freihautcr - 2 days ago
Hello all! I am new to this site and love reading all the comments! I did not have morning sickness too bad but I am finally getting some energy back and not sleeping 12 hours a night! I have my next prenatal appointment on Monday and then off to week 14!

BusyCaliforniaMom - 2 days ago
Is anyone else experiencing problems with sleeping? The past 3 nights I haven't been able to fall asleep and stay asleep without tossing and turning for hours. No known stress in my life, had a scan done today and everything looks great with the baby. I never had this problem with my pregnancy with my son - it was exactly the opposite.

starlyte - 3 days ago
Have added 13w5d scan photo to my profile if anyone wants to have a look x

Gidget1012 - 3 days ago
kamdm1 - my morning sicknes seems to have come back too. Mostly when I have to get up at 5:30 for work. :o(

kandm1 - 3 days ago
Hello everyone in 13 weeks! I am just wondering how everyones morning sickness is going?? I had pretty strong sickness from 5-10 weeks and I was feeling better at about 10 weeks but now it's back pretty strong again :-(

lil-mommy - 4 days ago
Oh man, last night I woke up at 2 am and could not get back to sleep. It was quite frustrating. I am not used to being wide awake in the middle of the night so I laid there bored. Hope that doesn't happen too often with this baby. Hope everyone is feeling good!

starlyte - 4 days ago
Wow - been to see my baby for the 1st time today. It was beautiful to watch. He/she was asleep when the scan first started and after much hip waggling and prodding it woke up in a real temper! Little arms and legs waving everywhere and complete refusal to settle for measurements to be taken. Truely wonderful stuff! On another note am completely fed up with being sick now. I suffer (as with the last 2 pregnancies) with HG, but today did lift my spirits and show how brilliant the outcome of all this will be. So have decided to share my happy dust with you all today :0) sprinkle sprinkle x

BabyTucci - 4 days ago
Right- I know! My dentist even gave me Vicidin for pain. I was so scared to take it. So I only took a half of a pill to sleep. Talk about feeling guilty. I'm not longer in pain ,unless I eat on that side. My root canal is scheduled for the 7th. I hope I can make it that long.

shelby34 - 4 days ago
BabbyTucci~ I am so sorry for your tooth...I have been waiting to hear your verdict. Gosh, that would s---!

BabyTucci - 4 days ago
Thanks 13yearslater. I just have been on an antibotic for my tooth (need a root canal soon). I had to get an xray on top of everything else. I feel really guilty for have all of this done while pregnant. I just want to make sure everything is ok. I'm not sure if I can wait that long. I havent felt the flutters yet. I need some sort of reassurance that everything is ok.

13yearslater - 4 days ago
Tucci~ I don't think the doc does an u/s at every visit unless there is cause for concern. in my experience they do one to for dating and then one around 20 weeks to make everything is ok. i have had 4 u/s this pregnancy because i have been bleeding. Hope that answers your question :)

momfor2 - 4 days ago
Hello everyone!! Happy new years! Im almost 14 weeks pregnant. How is everyone feeling at this point?

BabyTucci - 4 days ago
Hi 13 weekers- Bored at work. My nausea has finally started to go away. How exciting! I have my 2nd prenatal appt. My doc's have an ultrasound machine- do they check the baby with the machine at every appt?

msmillsap08 - 4 days ago
proudparentstobe- I had Epilepsy as a child and have been seizure free since age 10. I had what they call Childhood Absence Epilepsy, which can be outgrown. My Grandma had it, her uncles had it, my mom had it and I had it, so although I am hoping it doesnt happen, my daughter may develop it also since it has hit every generation. I cant believe this is the last week of the first trimester! How quickly this has gone by for me, Im guessing it is because this is my second baby!
