Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 207 days until your due date on August 02, 2009.
You are 73 days pregnant.
You are 2.4 months pregnant.
You are in your 3rd month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: October 26, 2008 to January 24, 2009. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: January 25, 2009 to May 09, 2009. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: May 10, 2009 to August 02, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

At this point of your pregnancy, the crown-to-rump length of your developing baby is 1.25 to 1.68 inches. It is now easier to tell how much the baby weighs since he is beginning to put on some weight. Your baby weighs approximately 5 grams and is the size of a small plum! The baby has grown an incredible amount during these past few weeks, but you still aren't showing too much yet.

Fetus in pregnancy week 10 Click for a bigger movie of this busy boy

This week is somewhat of a landmark for your developing baby. By now, your baby's complete body plan is laid down. Your baby will continue to develop and grow for the remainder of the pregnancy. The fingers and toes have separated and the tail has disappeared now. Your baby has taste and tooth buds at this point, which will continue to develop. The brain will continue to grow at an amazing rate and nearly a quarter of a million new neurons are produced every minute! The embryonic heart is completely developed. External genitalia are not apparent until next week, but a male's testes will already be producing testosterone.

Because you have high hormone levels at this time, you may notice an abundance of emotional and physical effects. Most pregnant women find themselves getting distressed easily and have frequent mood swings. Common physical changes include the beginning of real weight gain, potential softening of the gums and slightly swollen thyroid glands. Common emotional changes include feelings of unattractiveness, feelings of inadequacy and concerns about what the future holds. Some women are not excited about their pregnancy at first and question the condition. It is not uncommon to get upset easily, cry at the slightest things, feel moody or drift on daydreams.

You may have gained a little weight already. Average weight gain during pregnancy is about 28lbs(13kgs), but most of that is gained in the second and third trimester.

Hi everyone, I'm here a day early-won't be 10 weeks till tomorrow. Anybody else having trouble swallowing their prenatals? Lately I have been crushing them and putting them in drinks but they don't mix well. Any suggestions?

amo - 52 minutes ago
I am sorry I posted my message in the wrong week

amo - 53 minutes ago
The normal heartbeat is 120-180. There tends to be an accelerated hear rate at 9 weeks for some reason. The heartbeat will slow towards the end of the pregnancy. There is a greater concern for slower heartbeats then fast ones. They say that above 160 tends to be a girl. If you would like to see all my bloodwork and hear rates feel free to visit my profile because I have already had 3 u/s.

Darcy - I saw a chiropractor regularly throughout my first pregnancy and I continue to see her now. She specializes in pregnancy (in fact, she's 7 months pregnant herself!). I find it to be incredibly helpful.

babybrady - 1.5 hours ago

samsmom06 - 2.2 hours ago
megs- Try an ice pack wrapped in a hand towel of course, on your neck and sitting in a dark room. That seems to help me :)

babybrady - 2.2 hours ago
hey, thanks for adding me number2love X

Bajancherry - 2.3 hours ago
Hi all I am 10 weeks with my first. my DH and I are so Happy.Just like you Darcyanne I have no M/s but i am trying not to worry, I Have a doctor appointment tomorrow hope everything is going good.

number2luv - 2.4 hours ago
darcyanne, When I was pregnant with my daughter six years ago, I had no m/s or headaches or anything in the beginning it was awesome, then around 7 months I got sick twice and had severe heartburn, back pains soo severe. This time I've been through the m/s headaches, crazy mood swings(which has gotten worse) spotting, and I feel every twinge and pull down there its totally different. I just hope that your preganacy will stay smooth all along!!

Darcyanne59 - 2.9 hours ago
I was wondering if anyone has been to a chiropractor during pregnancy. I am thinking of going to one because my headaches are terrible which goes down into my neck and I have noticed slight pains in my left hip that pinches when I get up..

babybrady - 2.9 hours ago
lisareader, thanks for the advice. at present i am sitting here with tissue up both nostrils as its like a tap !!! :( i didnt think you could take sudafed ! Bundleofperez i have the exact same fear as u, my u/s is not until feb 10th , i have never heard my babys hearbeat as i have never has an appointment. the system in Ireland is terrible ! so busy they tell me. so im praying everything is ok !!! oh and i keep dumping my boyfriend and being so mean and needy but i dont mean too . its so hard on him and im so scared that he doesnt love me anymore :(

natters - 3.5 hours ago
lol darcy and lisa, I also get those sharp little pains once in awhile. Hard to convince myself that they're not bad omens :P I've had so many symptoms this time around I've told myself that this one is definitely sticking around - s/he's already a pain in the a**!!!

babywest - 3.6 hours ago
So I went back to the dr today for a follow up to all thats been going on. This appt was actually scheduled a month ago as my 2nd OB appt and was just kept as the follow up. The dr said everything looked great and when we went over everything she ended up changing my due date back to the original date that coinsides with my LMP, which is July 27th!! That means I am 11 weeks today, so I am about to change me info...again...and off to 11 weeks I go!! I am so excited we made it ths far.

megs902 - 4.2 hours ago
it's nice to know someone else has dry heaves...i feel like it's all i do all day. my 17 month old mocks me and laughs...at least someone is having fun!

Darcyanne59 - 6.9 hours ago
maybe I have jinxed myself. Has anyone else been having severe migraine headaches? I could barley even keep my head up yesterday.. and its been going on for about 3 days now! Aughhh and Tylenol isnt touching it!

kennedysmommie - 8.4 hours ago
This u/s on this page is cool!

natnat - 9.7 hours ago
i think it all depends on your doctor. I went last week for a bad cold and sinus headache, and they told me not to take anything but tylenol in first trimester. they put me on antibiotics and im very fine ever since

lisareader - 10 hours ago
Darcy - I was really, really sick with my first and he gives me a run for my money every day now :-). I'm hoping the fact that I've felt good with this one means this baby is a bit more laid back - I wish the same for you, LOL!

lisareader - 10 hours ago
Bundleofperez - yep, they should be able to hear it, either with the ultrasound machine or a doppler :-)

bundleofperez - 10.3 hours ago
Hey ladies.. I hope everyone had a nice weekend and an enjoyable New Years. I have my first appointment tomorrow. I'm so excited and so nervous at the same time. I have this fear that they'll go to see the baby and there won't be anything there. I can't wait to see an actual baby there on the screen! Do you think I'll be able to hear the heartbeat??

Jo Jo 7 - 10.3 hours ago
I am 10 weeks tomorrow. Have a scan on the 12 Jan. I sometimes have no symptoms at all then I will feel slightly sick in the evenings and then get pulling type pains in my lower stomach. When I feel thse pains it makes me feel like everything is o.k. I miscarried in march last year and I have been told that I have polysistic ovaries so I am very nervous about this pregnancy. I pray everynight all will be fine. Fingers x

Darcyanne59 - 10.6 hours ago
Lisareader- Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am very thankful but very nervous at the same time. I just hope everything is ok with my lil pea pod.. my husband tells me that its being so nice to me cuz its gonna give me the run for my money when it gets out! hahah

lisareader - 11.3 hours ago
babybrady - I had a terrible cold all last week. I consulted my cousin (a pharmacist) and my midwife, and both said to rinse my nose a few times a day with saline drops, get plenty of rest and fluids, and take Sudafed for congestion - apparently it's safe in the first trimester. I had to ask for it at the pharmacist counter because they no longer sell it on the shelves - it's working really well!

lisareader - 11.3 hours ago
Darcyanne - sometimes people just get lucky! I have two friends who are pregnant for the first time right now and they had no morning sickness and have felt great - one is now 6 months and one is 8 months, and everything is going well. There will be aches and pains later - but if you feel good now, just count your blessings :-)

lisareader - 11.3 hours ago
number2luv - I started having those pains yesterday! I remember them starting around 14 weeks last time, so I was also surprised they came so early. But, everyone says you feel things earlier in a second pregnancy, so I guess that's what's going on :-).

JenWilson07 - 11.9 hours ago
YAY i am 10 weeks and 1 day today!!!!!! i am so exicted... we saw our baby last week and everything is going good!!!! hope all is well with yall!!!!

Darcyanne59 - 12.2 hours ago
NATTERS- Thanks! I am a little worried about miscarrying because this is my first pregnancy and I feel so darn good.. But at the same time I dont want to stress over it too much and then make myself and the baby sick. I was just wondering if it was normal to go throughout your pregnancy where you just feel fantastic? Talking to some friends they told me that there was a point where it was really boring and they didnt have much.. but I thought I would get some input from others..

babybrady - 15.8 hours ago
Hi everyone ! i have started to feel worse with M/S not better and it doesnt help that i am also smoothering with a cold... any suggestions to clear up a cold.. im trying to get loads of vitamins C into me.. it seems the more mucus there is ( sorry dont mean to be so graphic) the more sick i am ! help me :(

number2luv - 18.9 hours ago
so, somtimes when i stand up too fast I get these pulling pains in the uterus area, I do remember having this when preg. with my duaghter, i just don't remember it happening soo early. anyone else get this?

tgamum - 19.2 hours ago
Hi all Im 10 weeks 1 day today. Have been talking to the nurse at the recurrent miscarriage clinic I have been going to (have had 3 miscarriages) and she said its a milestone because we have seen baby and its heartbeat of 176 bpm the chances of miscarriage is next to none however I to am a toilet paper checker to. Have my nuchal scan in 2 weeks and then seeing midwife not until the 2nd feb. My ms has been so bad but was a bit better today although still constantly dry wretching. I hope everyone else is doing ok.

samsmom06 - 1 days ago
Kitz- no my DH was at work so I ate some fruit. He has a hard time doing anything that doesnt involve the grill or mac-n-cheese....LOL!!!

hannah1701 - 1 days ago
well i am feeling good, was sick as a dog with 1st preg, till 20+ weeks, this time get tiny sick feelings which go soon as i eat something, so to you sick mummies 2 be i feel bad for you as i have been there but i promise you all worth it in th end (apologies if spellimg wrong, typing one handed, my son has fallen asleep on me, love it!)

natters - 1 days ago
I am also guilty of checking my toilet paper every time i go to the bathroom lol. I feel for those of you who are not feeling well. I was sick for the first two weeks after i found out and it was horrible.

mel11 - 1 days ago
I have been super congested at night recently. I am now trying to get sick with some sort of virus I think. I am miserable. I had to work all night last night (nurse), and the pharmacist sent me some actifed. Apparently it's safe but I felt all jacked up and weird. The benadryl is working better today, but can't take it at work. I am hoping for a swift recovery. My other symptoms are not gone quite yet, hopefully soon. I feel pretty confident about escaping the first trimester without miscarrying. I think this one is stuck in there pretty good. That does not mean I have escaped the obsessive checking for blood EVERY TIME I PEE! I will relax once the baby is in my arms. Hope all is well.

kitz (Donna) - 1 days ago
samsmom06 - was that m/s then lol or did your partner cook lol.

katearoo2009 - 1 days ago

samsmom06 - 1 days ago
Thats awesome kitz! I have my first u/s in february. Ive done pretty well with the exception of a sudden loss of my breakfast yesterday before I left for work. Then today I had to take my zofran just so I could eat lunch! Otherwise Im goin good :D

kitz (Donna) - 1 days ago
hey ladies, well the symptoms are starting to wear off, no more sicky feeling, all i have now is sore bigger boobies and a tiny bump, not to mension drinking more water and what comes with that of more trips to the loo.

I feel so pregnant now its wonderful. I have my scan on the 13th of jan and this time ill get a pic to show.

How are you all feeling?

natters - 1 days ago
I'm 10 wks today! darcyanne, I have lost most of my symptoms with the exception of mild cramping and slightly tender boobs. I wouldn't worry too much about miscarriage but if you want to worry about it with someone feel free to message me :P I miscarried my last pregnancy at 6 wks so I'm nervous too, but I have a good feeling about this one :D

j@m!e - 1 days ago
I have a bad cold! My throat is sooooo sore. And Im all stuffed up at night. I have like a dry cough and it makes me gag everytime. :o(

Darcyanne59 - 1 days ago
Hello everyone. The 5th is the start of my 10 weeks.. and I have been reading everyones messages! I hope everyone is doing well! I have been very thankful. The past 2 weeks I have felt great. No m/s no nausea, no boobs hurting.. just very tired.. I am starting to worry because everyone else is feeling awful and I am hoping there is nothing wrong here. I go for an ultrasound on the 12th of Jan. So I will hope and pray to get good news. I worry so much about miscarrying because it seems so common in the earlier weeks. This is my husband and I first baby.. I just feel so overwhelmed and I am not sure what to think. If I didnt already know I was pregnant I would of never thought I was. Is anyone else like this?

samsmom06 - 1 days ago
Thanks Brandi! I normally feel fine during the day but last night when I was getting ready for bed, I got congested and felt like I had 'junk' in my throat! So I took some benadryl and feel a little better this morning :)

brandi0881 - 1 days ago
samsmom - I have had a cold so I have been staying congested. But I do get hotter at night and wake up all stuffed up even when I am not sick. And my freaking hands keep going to sleep. I happened with my daughter too. I will wake up on my back and my hand will be dead asleep. It is soo annoying. And I don't care what anyone says, I swear I feel this baby moving already. Just a light flutter, but I know that's what it is!

samsmom06 - 1 days ago
Morning ladies...has anyone else been getting congested at night when they go to bed?

number2luv - 2 days ago
