Your baby continues to grow this week and weighs about 6.8 pounds. His crown-to-rump length is still about 14 inches and total length is around 21 inches. Most women do not grow any larger during the last few weeks of their pregnancy. From the top of your uterus to your bellybutton is about 6.5 to 7 inches. You may be very uncomfortable now-you are almost there!

Just before real labor contractions start, you might notice false labor contractions. These should not be confused with Braxton-Hicks contractions. False labor contractions can be as strong as real labor contractions, but do not get closer and may go away if you get up to walk around. Contractions help dilate the cervix and encourage your water to break. Your baby could be born any day now, but only 5% of mothers deliver on their actual due date!

Over the last few weeks of pregnancy, your baby has been building up waste materials in the intestines. This waste material is known as meconium and is greenish-black in color. Meconium is made up of cells that your baby has shed, lanugo and other substances. Meconium is the first waste that your baby will pass after birth. However, sometimes babies pass meconium before delivery and are delivered with greenish-black waste covering their body. Special care must be taken when a baby passes meconium in the womb.

If your baby is a boy, his testes should have descended into his scrotum by this time. When your baby boy is born, both of his testes should be in place. Approximately 1% of babies are born with undescended testes. Because an undescended testis can cause infertility issues and increase the risks of testicular cancer, your baby's doctor will examine both testes after birth.

The baby's skull is not fully solid as the five bony plates, known as fontanels (little fountains), are still separate and can be pushed together. Birth may mold and elongate the fetal head, a safety precaution to reduce the skull's diameter for an easier birth, without damaging the fetal brain. After delivery, the baby's head returns to a rounded shape. Eyes have no tear ducts yet, they appear a few weeks after birth.

Nony- as I'm reading your comment I'm having one! My face feels like all the blood is rushing to it and my heart starts racing too I get so overheated I start sweating a little. I have a dr appt tomorrow I'm gonna see what she says about it. Mine hurt a little, yours don't hurt at all?

Ok ladies.. I keep getting those Braxton Hicks that knock the wind out of me. For the first time, they are actually coming in intervals but are not painful. It seems like when they happen, I kind of feel like my heart is beating really hard in my chest and I get really overheated. (kind of like a hot flash??)...Could it be the start of labor?

Tracie- HAHAHAHA!!!! That seriously cracked me up!! I can't wait to not be pregnant and feel like a normal woman! lmgibson-Are you dialated or effaced at all? The idea is that your body has to already be starting to get ready in order for castor oil to work. Ya I kind of regretted it once I drank it too but then it ended up not being bad at all.

its good to know everyone one here is going as crazy as me. I havent tryed castor oil, cause im chicken, but i did try the nipple stimulation, i put on my new breast pump for like an hour an nothing. I took a hour walk including 2 flights of stairs and nothing, i had my docter strech my cervix from 3 cm. to 4 cm, and it just went back to 3!!! I have had false labor twice now, and i think im just going to be pregnant forever!!!!

Sarah Grogan: My gums are very sensitive too! They bleed when I floss! It just started a few weeks ago. Also, I am 1cm, 70% effaced and baby is -2 station. OB scheduled an induction for 12/9 as a backup plan. I hope I go earlier though - my back pain is killing me!

haha My fiance was laughing at the last comment he though a man wrote it. lol. Now he wants to try it. Unfortunately for him i am so not inot it . Last night i literally pulled my pants off bent over and was like be quick. lol He thought that was so romantic. I went to a last resort and ate MacDonalds tonight and funny thing is is that the contractions have started allready or maybe it is my stomach rotting out. Good luck to all.

Hi ladies, I haven't posted in a while but have been reading all your comments frequently. Those trying to get labour started heres a thought for you...did you know that oral sex is 'supposed' to be more effective than sex as it is thought that prostaglandins are absorbed more efficiently through the gut than through the vagina?! Don't know how many of you would be willing to try this but I thought it was kinda funny lol you may prefer to keep this piece of information to yourself rather than share it with your partners! Why is it men have all the luck while we are coping with the joys of pregnancy! Goodluck to you all x

Got sent home from hospital AGAIN!! I am getting frustrated. I noticed some bleeding when I wiped (sorry TMI) and was also having contractions. I have only opened half a centimeter and they decided that the contractions werent strong enough!! I really hope that I dont go too long with these contractions! I really want to have the baby already : (

Well today is last day for week 38 and off to 39 tomorrow I will get a sweep on Wednesday if i don't go by then. Which that is what my doctor thinks. But i do not know. When i get the sweep done i will have less than a week for my due date. I pray that it will work for me.

yeah.. Im feeling rough too. It was really wierd! I felt great all day! Literally the best I have felt in 9 months. Then suddenly, I started vomiting and cramping. Where is this coming from?? Is it a crime to just feel 'good' for a full day?? Give me a break!!

vicky- Yes, same thing I get! It feels so weird! Nony- 2 teaspoons isn't nearly enough. I took 2ounces some say take 4 but I was too chicken to take that much. And ya if they aren't hurting like hell they're considered bh contractions. I had 3 dreams all night last night, all were about going into labor and having my baby girl....waking up is such a disappoinment today!

The doc at the urgent care told me i would prob be having the baby within 24 hrs on sat and stupid me i listened to her and my man came home now we lost $6000 from lost wages and no baby! GRRRRRR! mrssmith- No hot flushes. I am not sure if I am dialated or effaced because my doctor says they don't even check until week 39. Its frustrating!! So you think those are Braxton Hicks contractions?? Also, took two teaspoons of castor oil last night. It didn't taste as bad as I expected. NOTHING happened! I was at least hoping that it would help a little with the constipation. but NOPE.. not even nausea. Hmmnm.. maybe I didn't take enough? ahhh well.. I am not going to try it again I am too nervous. I hope all of you are doing well this morning :)

arrhhh im so jealous of all you people who are going into labor and getting contractions. Ive had nothing yet. I just want to meet my little guy already. Pregnancy definitely requires patience. And i am sooo impatient. Have done the BD a couple of times but that seems to not be working. I tried castor oil with my last child and that did absolutely nothing so im not going to try it again. I found it to be foul. The second time i tried to take it i threw it straight back up. Still makes me cringe. Hahah good luck to all and hopefully our bubs come soon.

I didnt do it with my other two pregnancies but tonight I gave in and drank the castrol oil! I mixed it with orange juice and I dont think it tasted that bad. Last week was 1cm 80% effaced so lets hope it works. I took 4 tablespoons...... hope I didnt over do it!

nonymiss- I have the same exact contractions!! It's like we have 2 types of bh contractions. The type that don't really feel like anything just the tummy tightening and then the type that take your breath away, also when I get that type I get a bad hot flash, do you? I didn't have the breathtaking ones with my son but this time lots of them. ps good luck with the oil, are you dialated or effaced at all?

Surprisedby3rd and those trying the castor oil- I tried castor oil Friday and yes I knew it was a laxative. The cramps from the runs are supposed to irritate your uterus and cause contractions but it only works if your body is already on it's way to labor. It's not the same as over the counter laxatives (they're much more gentle) I used them in my 1st trimester bc of constipation and they were absolutely nothing like when I took the castor oil! Good luck those trying it, it didn't work for me but I felt much better afterwards. TMI, all cleaned out!!

I went to labor and delivery because I was urinating every 10 minutes!! I had called and they told me to come in to see if my water broke. They checked me and my cervix was close and my membranes were still intact. But all of a sudden my contractions started soon after that though irregular and mild!! The nurse told me that my baby's head was really low and that she expects me to go into labor by tonight and tomorrow. I am hoping she is right and that i will soon have my baby in my arms.

don't you know that all castor oil is is a laxative. it's a laxative that stimulates your bowels that may make you think it's contractions when it's not really. most over the counter laxatives suggest you not use them if pregnant because it may simulate contractions. just thought you might want to know. to each her own....

While I was sleeping last night I felt two big gushes like my water broke. So when I went to the bathroom it felt like I was just using. At the hospital they said water membranes haven't rupture but I was having a few contractions. They discharge me cuz the contractions were not strong enough. I' ve been feelin bad all day, vomiting, and having these mild contractions. I'm so fustrated I don't know what to do.

But I have no idea how to tell what beginning contractions feel like. My stomach kept tightening up. It wasn't painful but it kept knocking the wind out of me. I guess it could just be baby pressing outward really hard too...
