Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 29 days until your due date on December 22, 2009.
You are 251 days pregnant.
You are 8.2 months pregnant.
You are in your 9th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: March 17, 2009 to June 15, 2009. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: June 16, 2009 to September 28, 2009. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: September 29, 2009 to December 22, 2009. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby now weighs over 5.5 pounds and its crown-to-rump length is approximately 13.2 inches. Your baby's total length is around 20.25 inches at this point. Your uterus is now 6 inches from the bellybutton and the average weight gain is approximately 24 to 29 pounds.

Most pregnant women begin to feel cramped and heavy around this time and often become tired of being pregnant. Some women feel like they do not have to room to breathe or eat. You should eat small, but frequent, meals and rest as often as you can throughout the day. Your cervix will begin to dilate and efface within the next few weeks to make room for your baby's head to emerge from the birth canal. Your cervix needs to be 10 cm dilated in order to deliver your baby.

This week of your pregnancy your baby's fingernails will have definitely reached the tips of his fingers. When your baby is born, his nails may look long and pointy. Your baby is less likely to scratch himself at this point because of the lack of room in the uterus. Fat deposition will still continue and your baby is getting chubbier and rounder. Your baby's shoulders are plump at this point.

The baby begins to develop its own immune system.

MOMS OF 2 OR MORE KIDS.. PLEASE ANSWER POLL(s)!!! http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/vip-polls/hopeafloat2009

doublemama - 5.8 hours ago
im also just so blah. i hate being so useless. i hate feeling like a terrible mom to my daughter. i hate having a to do list fill my head with no energy to get it done. i really hate getting dressed or seeing a body that isnt mine in the mirror. i dont mean to sound full of hate but im just in this funk, and really i dont feel like doing a thing about it. getting some cleaning done made me feel good this morning but those moments are getting fewer and farther between when i can actually get mmyself to be productive.

Kris1209 - 5.9 hours ago
Slowly is the key to getting anything done. I managed to make breakfast, chicken broth, banana bread, and fold one small load of laundry (that is still on the couch). After that, I was too tired to make dinner so my DH managed to get dinner for my daughter and her 'big sister' our best friend's 6 year old who is spending the night so her parents can go out. Most of my friends are at a Cherry Poppin Daddies show tonight but I knew there was no way I was going. I am parked in my chair timing contractions that are all over the place. Having lots of them but no pattern. I took the meds to stop them so we will see. Tonight would not be a good night.

Bri - 6 hours ago
doublemama - I'm with ya! I was so active and then with my little vein problem it slowed me down. Now that I'm back to moving and grooving I feel the weight. It sucks! We went to the mall today and I could barely handle it. I felt so tired and heavy. Just about died when we got back to the car. Then went to eat. I drank so much and had King Crab. Hmmm! Yummy! But I'm beat. I know it's healthy and need to keep walking but wow it's exhausting.

doublemama - 6.2 hours ago
ugh i was so good about the walking until last week i think is when i just couldnt anymore. i literally waddle bent over from how low he is..i can feel his head with each step. i have all these things i want to get done, but it just is too much effort to do any of em. itll all get done..slowly but surely

Rachael1209 - 6.5 hours ago
zepher~ i have had the same thing going on. the period like feeling...and in the middle of the night. it's weird...i just assumed my belly was growing, more! i am definately to the point of wanting to do a bunch of nothing which isn't my nature. but i have no control. i havent walked in a week and was walking 5-6 times a week. i just get so sore and it's not worth waking up in the middle of the night and feeling like i've been kicked inbetween the legs. so anyway, i'm going to be induced with a csection by the 17th of dec. and i'm soooo ready!

doublemama - 6.6 hours ago
tx...sex (let the semen stay in there as thats what ripens the cervix), eating lots of fresh pineapple (something in it mimics the effect of the meds they use to induce labor), lots of walking....id id these three things, i did get labor started..but that doesnt mean it continued! my labor stopped, and i ended up being induced in the middle..and lets just say it wasnt fun from there. i dont advise starting up labor, though i know how terribly tempting it is. my baby was NOT a happy camper, and had tons of issues as a result as well. just not worth it. i know hwo hard it is to wait..im so uncomfortable, for all the reasons u listed, im dying to try n start things up on my own as well, but im trying my best to stop :)

Texasmama76524 - 9.2 hours ago
Hey ladies~ I'm so excited that i will be considered full term on wednesday at 36 weeks!! I am getting really impatient and wanting her to come already! I am hoping and praying that she comes really soon cause i dont think i cant handle waiting anymore as i can hardly breathe, my tail bone is killing me, sleep is like a guessing game and just to shave my legs at this point would probably be pretty entertaining to watch.. My due date isnt until dec 23rd and its my second child (i have a 8 year old daughter) and i dont remember hardly ANYTHING from my other pregnancy as i was very young and it was so long ago..anyone got any ideas on how i could send myself into labor, i want her to come in her own time but a little push never hurt ha ha....

Kris1209 - 11.5 hours ago
zephyr - ask them to check you. I expect if you explain why they will do it. It is not a definative answer but they should be able to estimate cervix length and dilation with an exam.

doublemama - 13.8 hours ago
i wish they would give us the ffn tests at our weekly appts that tell u if ur likely to go into labor within the next 2 weeks. that would at least give some time frame. id love to be able to go out of town n just get away..but too scared of the whatif's.

zephyr - 14.4 hours ago
It certainly felt like my baby had dropped last night, but my belly is back today!! Just not sure if it's in the same position as it was before (high or low) and as big... anyways, I remember when I was induced with my last one, the contractions felt like alot of pressure, not sharp pains, but they were definitely in waves where I could time them... this, however, was just a deep, dull ache and warm, like you get when you are on your period... who knows!! I'm supposed to go 200 miles away for Thanksgiving for 4 days and I'm a little concerned as it's kinda a rural area and the nearest hospital is like 45 minutes to an hour away... my doc appt is on Wednesday, but at this practice they don't typically check you for dilation at all... wondering if they would if I asked to see if it's safe for me to go that far away for that long.

Bri - 14.9 hours ago
zephyr - That's cool that your baby dropped! I would love to breath again but I know once they are in the pelvis it becomes harder to walk. The pregnant waddle! HAHA!

Hope all is well for everyone this morning. It's a pretty uneventful day for me and I suppose that is great. I became an insomniac last night but now I need sleep. The little man is going down in 20minutes so I'm excited to say....so am I!

mrsmom - 15.2 hours ago
zephyr--sounds like your baby dropped--from what you described. Braxton Hicks create a tightening feeling. You may be having 'false labor'. Contractions do feel similar to REALLY REALLY REALLY bad period cramps. If they are in a pattern (same minutes apart) or you have more than (I think it is) five in an hour, call your dr.

doublemama - 18.5 hours ago
3n1..its all too hard to predict. which is whats so annoying about it!! if i could be picky i would have him on the 18th lol. my inlaws get in on the 16th so that would give my daughter a cpl days to adjust to having em around, and then off i'd go to the hospital lol. im thinking that even though im so anti bringing on labor...im just gonna let the 17th be a freebie where i let myself do all the home remedies that bring on labor..if it happens it happens if not ill stop n not try again lol i warned hubby about a month ago that if i start gettin crazy thoughts towards the end to get the baby here that he has to be the one to keep me in check...hopefully he will!

zephyr - 18.7 hours ago
All yesterday evening I had period like cramps and during the night they got even worse with a little bit of backache... couldn't sleep!!! It seems to finally have subsided this morning, but now down in my vajajay there is some pressure and it feels like she is going to fall out of me... would that be considered Braxton Hicks even though I didn't have a tightening and it was more of a constant dull ache than contractions I could time... my hubby rubbed my belly for me and he asked where my big belly went because it was virtually gone?? Where did she go?

meoh - 18.7 hours ago
3n1- I was in the hospital this week with intense contractions (not Braxton Hicks) that were measuring 2-4 minutes apart. The doctor did a swab test of my cervix that proved not likely I would go into true labor in the next two weeks. They gave me 2 bags of IV fluid which stopped the contractions. He said they are normal and just preparing my body for labor.

adriana03 - 19.4 hours ago
3n1.... that's what I would like to know as well... lol.. the doc said if they dont get closer or more painful then it might not be. And sleep on yopur sides only with loads of water if they settle down your not. Wish I woulda known that before I went haha. Last time I went I had the same thing and he was pist for not coming in sooner. DOCTORS!!!

Bri - 21.3 hours ago
Martha03 - I think I would have cried or punched her. At the very least I would have made some other rude comment back. I was so damn sensitive afterwards that I think I would have been irrational on her. HAHA!

I was told by my mom that with her first she has a 12lb baby, plus the 2lb placenta, plus the fluids....AND she still went home and had gained weight! How did that happen? HAHA! I didn't even weigh myself when I get home. I probably won't this time either. It's crazy how the body works! I've been asking for a treadmill for Christmas because I doubt I'll be able to get outside with two little ones in winter but my husband hates them. Too bulky, blah blah blah. I have this thought that I could 'walk' while my son sleeps and the other is on the floor next to me. Great idea but whatever. Maybe I'll mention it to my MIL. She tends to get me what I want! HAHA!

3n1 - BH and false labor is just practice. I don't think the number of BH actually can tell you when you'll actually go into labor. I know women that had them for months before actually giving birth. Other never had them. It's so hard to tell when we'll actually go into labor. I've been trying to research what are the signs that labor will be soon and nothing can tell me. They can tell you what early signs of labor are but not fortelling a month down the line.

3n1 - 22.8 hours ago
Hi Ladies, Does anyone know whether false labour is a sign the true labour is coming along soon? The other day I'm fairly sure I had false labour, I was having heaps of Braxton Hicks and then I got lots of back pain and period pain. My contractions were coming along every 10 mins but did not get any worse or any closer together so I stayed put at home. If anyone can help that would be great.

Kris1209 - 1 days ago
I retained all of the fluids from the IV and was more swollen after than I was before but that wore off after a few days. I only gained 25 lbs with my first and had taken off all but 5 lb just breast feeding but when I quit breast feeding gained a quick 5 back. I was up and mobile the next day and I pushed for 4 hours and had an episomity (not too bad). I was actually more sore the second week but I was up and around more.

Martha03 - 1 days ago
doublemama... yeah I remember thinking..ummm wait didn't I HAVE the baby! I had one of my hubby's aunts over to see the baby and she grabbed my belly and said.. 'still hangin onto it huh?' I wanted to punch her in the face!! I am gonna get a belly bandit this time!!!

doublemama - 1 days ago
oh and nobody told me that after u have the baby u still look 5-6 months pregnant..so i was so sad lookin in the mirror the next day thinking i was gonna be stuck like that..but it goes down..just wear spanx or biker shorts or something to hold it in n not let it get used to just hanging. i also thought when id weigh myself the next day id be at least 10 lb lighter...nope i was the same exact weight due to all the fluids they pumped in me...but the first week i soaked the sheets literally with sweat..its ur body's way of detoxing..as well as pee'd by the gallon...so thats when the weight started coming off.

doublemama - 1 days ago
i had an episiotomy..they didnt tell me what degree...i was up and about that night :) i just was told to sit in a warm bath every day to let it heal faster, so i did that. i dont remember too much pain there..they gave me these lovely lil wipes that u stick ontop of ur pad that were soothing along with some spray stuff that u spray after u use the restroom. as for weight..i gained 47lb with my first, lost 20 in the first two weeks..then a total of 50 in five months..only thru breastfeeding. each body is different however.

Elizabeth21 - 1 days ago
babynum1- I would also recommend doing everything you can to avoid getting hemmroids. I didn't know I had them before labour and the act of pushing the baby out made them worse. Keep your fibre up and your bowels moving. It will definitely help with avoiding them. I have to say...most of my pain was due to them. I could barely sit for 3 weeks.

adriana03 - 1 days ago
Thanks bri yeah I'm hoping that by this week...lol before thanksgiving even tho I won't have an excuse to eat like a pig anymore.

Bri - 1 days ago
nic-babynum1 - I would say it depends on the person and how the birth went. If there was tearing or an epsitomy then you'll be much more tender then somene who didn't. I have known women that were up and going the next day and others on the couch for weeks. As for baby weight, that also depends on you. It all depends on your metabolism, how much you gained, how much exercise you are planning on doing, what type of diet, if you are breastfeeding. etc. You get the idea. Pretty much the rule of thumb is 9 months on, 9 months off. Expect to look 5 or 6 months pregnant when you go home. Then it's up to you. You could be like some of the celebs that are in the gym 8hours a day and back into your skinny jeans within a month or you could be like me that had to eat right and exercise but had no time for the gym. For me it took over a year with my first. I gained 80lbs and it really sucked. Plus, even though breastfeeding helps in the beginning to lose weight you can't diet. You need the calories. So, I ate right and did what I can to lose weight. In the end it came off and I've only gained 40 this time around. I want to be in normal clothes by March.

nic-babynum1 - 1 days ago
Hiya, i know this is a bit premature but i was just wondering about after the birth. how long do you 'lady bits' hurt for? and when people say they hurt, is it obvious? like when u sit down will u gasp? or will nobody know? also how long does it take to loose baby weight? im in no rush dont get me wrong, but i just want to know now whether its going to be weeks or months?! arhh!

Bri - 2 days ago
adriana03 - Congrats on being so close! I don't think I'll go anytime soon. I just hope not to be in the hospital for Christmas. If it was my first I wouldn't care but I have a toddler at home. Last year he had no idea what Christmas is. This year it's a little more exciting although I know he still doesn't get it completely. Next year will be much more exciting. But still it's Christmas with my son.

adriana03 - 2 days ago
Yup well I'm home, with a couple of uncomfy contractions now. They said if I have them regularly and more painful to come in again. Due to my history of fast labors. But I'm happy that I've progressed now ill only have to suffer for 7 more cm's. I really want my baby now. I'm 36 weeks and measuring 37 so I think she's done cooking. Lol

mrsartis - 2 days ago
yay not long to go!

Elizabeth21 - 2 days ago
Yep I was 3-4 cms for a week with my first.

laurissa71 - 2 days ago
Adriana - My dr let me hang out at 4cm for 2 weeks with number 2. When she came it was FAST!!!!

Bri - 2 days ago
jenb32 - All I can say is hang in there. I got a steriod cream that really helped last time. Also, cold oatmeal baths at night, then wrap cold towels around your legs, mid section and arms. It really helps. Don't scratch, I have tons of scars from burst welts. I feel for you! I had PUPPPS for over 8weeks last time. It was crazy. The pharmists knew me by name cause I was in there every other day getting new meds to try.

adriana03 - Has your water broke yet? If it has then they won't release you. But if you are having false labor they will. Some women hang out at 3cm for weeks. Probably not the most comfortable but it looks like when labor actually begins you'll be in good shape. Good Luck!

Double, I think this guy goes up and down. I sometimes feel him in my pelvis, especially when I cough or sneeze. That hurts because all the pressure goes right there. But there other times I feel him right under the ribs too. Makes breathing difficult. Maybe he's just big, who knows?! It won't be long now! I'm thinking the 16th of the month sounds good to me. HAHA! I know I can't plan it but....it's plenty of time before Christmas and he will be old enough to come out. We'll see. Maybe some long walks come winter time. I would say sex but with my veins I can't even think of it. He'll come when he wants to. I'm not worried.

Elizabeth21 - Have you been doing pelvic tilts and such? I got my little guy to turn that way. Good Luck! Remember only 3% end up breech at the end. Hopefully yours won't be one of those.

adriana03 - 2 days ago
That was my thought exactly. I'm surprised that they said I could go home. They're probably gonna check me one last time and then decide. But the baby hasn't dropped at all. Maybe that's why... who knows....

doublemama - 2 days ago
3cm puts u in active labor..im surprised theyre sending u home..but i guess with irregular contractions theres not much to do.

im still having mine pretty frequently and he feels engaged. i can feel his head in my pelvis when i walk..which is a bit uncomfortable but it totally beats not being able to breathe. hes finally off my lungs and i dont have to huff n puff anymore lol. all iwant to do is sleep all day as if its my first trimester again..kinda hard with a toddler to keep busy. she is 'cooking' now in her play kitchen so im get a break :)

adriana03 - 2 days ago
Well I'm still in the hospital and will be going home in a couple hours I think. Anways I got the progress I had hoped for. I'm about 3cm and still contracting but not regularly.they're more painful then this morning but times are all over the place. I'm looking at a 7lb baby already. Wow. I don't even think I should go home I have a feeling ill be back tomaarow

jenb32 - 2 days ago
Just got back from my final Ultrasound!!! Baby A is 5.7 lbs and Baby B is 5.10 lbs! That's basically 11 lbs of babies I'm carrying around! Whew!!! Dr. sent a request to L & D to schedule my C section. He said 2 weeks which will be Dec 2 or 3rd. I can't wait!!! Don't know if I can hang in there with the PUPPPS! It's itching is driving me MAD!!!!!

Elizabeth21 - 2 days ago
I'll take some baby turning dust please!!!

Martha03 - 2 days ago
GoodLuck Adriana!! I feel as though I have grown to know so many of you.. and here it is time for us to be having our babies!!! This is such an amazing website... labor dust my girls!!!

Bri - 2 days ago
adriana03 - Good Luck! I hope all is well. It's a little early to be giving birth but many are known to do it.

Double, I'm with you. I want him to be home for Christmas but I also don't want him to be born before 37weeks. Pretty much mid-December would be fine for me.

Only woke a couple times last night. Kind of refreshing. I'm still tender down there but I don't expect that to change until after birth. I'm happy, I feel completely worry free now. Nothing to do but keep house and watch my little guy. It's very nice to finally be able to just relax and enjoy my son and pregnancy. He does seem bigger then Kekoa though. Maybe I had just forgotten because I was comsumed with the PUPPPS that I couldn't focus on what was going on. He seems cramped all the time and push me to have a straight back. I was propped up in bed and couldn't do it for long because it was just too much on my lungs and such. Hmm? We'll see in another month or so.

MyBabySuprise - 2 days ago
zephyr, thanks so much. I totally forgot to wash the car seat liner. I am washing everything else. Also, don't forget to use a dye free, fragrance free softner like downy. That breaks down the fire retardant chemicals. I still am not convinced that my son will catch on fire or that having all that chemical on eerything that touches his skin (clothes, blankets, liners, ect) out weigh the risk of him catching on fire so I am attmepting to wash it off evertyhing. The Dreft site says fabric softner breaks down the fire retardant chemicals although I am not using Dreft because it has too much fragrence. I bough ALL free and clear.

gorogo - 2 days ago
Zephyr: I have a graco car seat from my first and we just washed it using baby detergent. It seems to be fine with no smell.

adriana03 - 2 days ago
Not sure if I'm gonna make my appt later today. Today at 1:50 am woke up with pain, and now its going on 4 and have had contractions 5 mins apart since waking up. I'm about to call doc and see what he wants me to do. The contractions are like clockwork but don't hurt much. So who knows. Will let you guys know later.

stina007 - 2 days ago
adriana-I have been experiencing extreme numbness in my fingers and pain in my elbow and wrist (only in right hand n arm), usually only at night and early morning for a couple weeks now. My doctor has given me a brace for the day and one for night that has helped a lot. Also I have found relief from cutting back on salt in my diet and really making sure I drink an adequate amount of water! It's easy to get behind on the amount of water we should be drinking because of the constant pressure in our bladders and bathroom runs. I found the best relief with my carpel tunnel was making sure I am constantly drinking water to prevent access water retention which in turn causes pressure on the nerves. My bonus therapy is having my husband massage my arm at night, thanks honey :-)

Berrymama - 2 days ago
No gender known and curious about what to do about a shower. Please answer on my poll. Thanks

mama2be12.24.09 - 2 days ago
today i had a terrible shooting pain and my stomach(well preggo belly) hurt so bad to any slight touch mostly around my belly button, finally i look to see if its bruised, and my belly button which was normal this whole time has almost all the way popped out! wondering how it happened within a half day and if thats what the pain is. so weird, and im kind of sad i want my belly button back! hope everyone else is well

doublemama - 2 days ago
ugh i had contractions down to 9 min apart for a while tonight. hope all that wasnt for nothing. i do want the baby to be at least 37 weeks when hes born..but im hoping all this that my body is going thru is useful in some way

adriana03 - 2 days ago
I got my crib and its all set up in our room and now I'm kinda sad cuz its all empty lol. I better be dialated more tomarrow.

Bri - 2 days ago
We never had a problem with our Graco that I had for my son. It's still really nice looking since we have a travel bag (for air travel) that we stored it in. I do need to clean out our stroller. Now that thing is getting nasty. HAHA! Kekoa still uses that so it gets crumbs and all sorts of stuff in it. Yuck! I also need to have my husband move the straps down to the lowest level again. It's at the highest right now. I have no idea how to do it. Oh well! We have time. Maybe I'll have him do it next week since he'll be off the entire week.

doublemama - 2 days ago
that flame retardant is also linked to adhd according to some study.
