Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 114 days until your due date on March 16, 2010.
You are 166 days pregnant.
You are 5.4 months pregnant.
You are in your 6th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: June 09, 2009 to September 07, 2009. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: September 08, 2009 to December 21, 2009. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: December 22, 2009 to March 16, 2010. (28 - 40 weeks)

This week your baby's length, from crown-to-rump, is approximately 8 inches! Your growing baby has finally reached one pound. Your baby is about the size of a small baby doll and looks very human. The baby's face and body look similar to that of a newborn at this time. Your uterus can be found about 1.5 inches above your navel. Your total weight gain should be approximately 15 pounds at this time.

You might notice some Braxton-Hicks contractions around this time. These contractions are not regular and they should not be painful. Braxton-Hicks contractions prepare your body for the upcoming labor and they will get stronger as your pregnancy progresses. You might be able to feel the contractions if you put your hand on your abdomen and your baby can probably feel the uterus gripping and massaging her. It will not harm your baby, so there is no need for concern.

Fat is still being deposited at a rapid rate, but your baby still looks red and wrinkled. Skin is being produced at a higher rate than the fat is, so the skin hangs loosely. Your baby looks red because the skin is losing its transparency and pigment is beginning to form. You should be feeling your baby moving quite a bit throughout the day as she will kick and punch the uterus walls. Babies also run their hands along the umbilical cord and touch their body parts while they are in the womb. Your baby now can suck her thumb for real, where she was just sticking it in her mouth. Your baby will continue to swallow amniotic fluid and recycle it as urine. The liquids and sugars that the baby retracts from the fluid is a supplement to the nutrients that the placenta delivers. You might be able to feel small `jumps` inside of you when your baby gets the hiccups from swallowing fluid. The pancreas is developing and it will responsible for insulin production, to help break down sugars.

Oily fish in your diet could help boost your baby's health. (Women who eat oily fish while pregnant have children with better visual development, a major study at Bristol University suggests.)

As the baby continues to grow, it has less space to move around in the uterus. Bones, muscles and organs are growing steadily.

Hi Ladies.... glad to be in this week, the two passed weeks have really flown by! Thoughts and prayers are out to those who need them right now. Getting Bean's room painted.... I forgot why I hated painting! Hope all are feeking well!

luckypenny - 2.4 hours ago
Lilmama- you sound like how I was yesterday! I b****ed to anyone who would listen! If I get sick and I didn't thank GOD I was going to file a grievance with my union. It was such BS...and to think its funny....I mean come on! I understand she's nearing 80 but seriously...soooo not funny. Then the tamiflu gave her the runs so she brought I KID YOU NOT extra underwear to work! I could not make this crap up I swear it! I thought I worked with special nees kids not adults!

lilmamamads - 3 hours ago
lucky- first of all I can't believe that you are so calm about someone coming around you while having the swine flu!! How inconsiderate of people and in a classroom too? with children? I don't understand! Why would anyone and then to laugh like oh your getting it too? Has she not read anything about the dangers of being pregnant and getting SIV? Oh man this has got me all fired up! My friend wanted me to go over to her house last week and when I get there she tells me everyone is sick with the swine flu-her hubs and 2 kids. I was so mad why didn't she tell me first before I went over there? Then she laughs and says 'oh you won't get it, don't worry.' How do you know? I didn't go in...jumped back in my car and sanitized my hands.urgh ok there is my rant.

lilmamamads - 3.2 hours ago
lilbit- I know how you feel. I knew what I wanted to have and I just kept trying to convince myself that I would be happy either way but i knew deep down that it simply was not true. Before I found out the gender I told myself that the baby was the opposite of what I wanted so I wouldn't be disappointed. Someday down the road you will look back on this and laugh...it will become clear why you were blessed with a another little boy. and you'll have an A-HA moment for sure.

Thank you all for your comments and reassurance. It makes such a big difference to have feedback from each of you. I just worry so much about this baby being safe and healthy. Making choices all along, only to have something totally out of my control happen is so scary. The good news is that I'm healing well. The surgery did not precipitate premature labour, there has not been any infection, and I'm eating now and had my first BM. Baby heart is strong, and he has been moving and kicking more than ever before. On the positive side, I also got another ultra sound with photos and got to hear his heart beat several times a day. I've been discharged and will be going home tonight! So glad its behind me now. Can't wait till March!

lilbit9729 - 8 hours ago
I have a question for everyone. Did anyone feel upset when they found out the sex of their baby? I know it sounds like a terrible thing. I just wanted to know. I know we should feel grateful if the baby is healthy and all. But I just cannot get over being upset. I am upset because I wanted a girl to have that mother daughter bond with. I missed out terribly on that. And this is my last. I am trying to be excited. But I just see ho0w our son is with his daddy and I want that so bad. I guess maybe I am just being ridiculous and over emotional.

michellel27 - 8.4 hours ago
Balsamfir- If this HAD to happen, it's prob. best that it did not happen during the 1st trimester. That is when medications are so extremely scary. You and baby will be just fine. 1mg of morphine is not that much. It is actually given to many preg. womwn b/c it's considered safer during pregnancy than sum of the other pain relievers. I've seen patients that take morphine everyday due to chronic pain and their baby is ok (This is not ideal of course but it happens)

mrsmacd - 9.2 hours ago
I think the morphine should also be fairly safe, not ideal but definitely not a really scary thing to give baby.

mrsmacd - 9.2 hours ago
christi21; Prayin' for you and your family! Balsamfir; I've had anti-biotics a lot during pregnancy due to infected teeth, but all the strains of anti-biotics have been some form of penicillin which is supposed to be safe during pregnancy and way safer than an infection.

KelB75 - 11.4 hours ago
christi21 -I can't imagine how upset your family must be. I'm so sorry. I'll be praying for you.

sandraintexs - 19.1 hours ago

my husband brought me Taco Johns tonight... an order of potato oles and two churros! He somehow knew that was going to be my perfect 9:00 p.m. snack! MMMmmm - i love that man! *wink wink*

Balsamfir - 21.5 hours ago
Hi! Writing from my hospital bed. Just wondering if anyone out there has ever had to have surgery with prior pregnancy, and what affects antibiotics and such have? Since I had appendicitis and surgery, I really had no choice in being sedated or receiving the antibiotics. They have me on IV with metronidrzole and gentramicin. My first few hours after were so painful, they also gave me 1mg of morphine. And its policy to prevent blood clots with hepharin...... Now that I'm feeling better I've read some affects online that have totally freaked me out, but my life was in danger and everything was so rushed. now I feel so worried and upset! Any input would be much appreciated! Still in hospital, but worried about my baby!

michellel27 - 22 hours ago
Oh my! Both kidz are sick and hubby is comming down with it. Poor babies! Stomac\ flu....yuck!

michellel27 - 22 hours ago

Gosh ladies just learned my mil's cancer is stage 4 and terminal:( there gonna try to slow it down but she won't be alive long enough to see her grand babies grow up...very sad moment in our lives.

rae9170 - 23.9 hours ago
luckypenny- I'm from week 37 but saw your comment on the spy thing. I haven't...but I'm dying too! Unfortunately, I think I have to wait until after my baby is here! Everything is always sold out and I can't stand in a line for too long! lol. If you see it or have already, let me know how it is! Why can't we have little Renesme's? ha ha

christi21 - 1 days ago
Hey ladies went and got my kiddos the seasonal flu shot and the swine flu shot.I'm kinda regreting getting the swine flu shot for them but o well to late now.I didn't get the swine flu shot and I don't plan to.I just hope there is no bad side effects or I'm gonna be one pissed off mom.at least getting them the shots covers them from the swine flu crap

luckypenny - 1 days ago
Anybody see New Moon yet?????

luckypenny - 1 days ago
I just hate that we have to even debate this darn piggy flu shot....wish it just wasn't around. Its making me batty. Well not the vaccine part since I saw my doc this past Tuesday and she said no to get it. She just reitterated what I said about if you get it, get Tamiflu, and get better you then have the antibodies for it and then so does your lil one. I'm not big on vaccines. But I am kinda pissed that my teaching assistant came to work knowingly with the h1n1 flu and sat coughing and wheezing...I know that sounds mean, but stay home dammit! Me and the kids don't care to breathe in your germs! She then laughed today when she saw me sneezing and blowing my nose 'OH Are did you get it now too? HA HA HA?' Oh I wanted to punch the old bitty in the face. Okay that is my Friday rant. LOL

motay9383- thank you, ya no one seems to like it too much.

First day in week 23! It seems to have been drama land on here. I hope everyone is doing better and those waiting on test result are in my prayers.

first babyboy - 1 days ago
hey ladies, i am still waiting, they have a partial result back so i have to wait for the result via doc, but my last urine was 316 so i dunno. i am inpatient when it comes to this, i even tried to get them lol

lisset005 - 1 days ago
I am still debating over this swine flu shot- my main concern is the affect it can have on the developing brain-they tested it on mice ans in 15% of cases the mice had parts of their brain that developed to be smaller--so I'm struggling with the thought of that happening...I'm a stay at home mom so my outside exposure is limited and I carry sanitizer spray and wipes with me everrywhere I go!

KelB75 - 1 days ago
I got the swine flu shot about 3 weeks ago clara, and no side effects other than a sore arm. Baby is developing fine. There's been alot of debate over this, but it's a personal choice. It has eased my mind, so I'm glad I got it.

KelB75 - 1 days ago
Clara -I think I commented about it a while ago when we were talking about cravings.. I was sad that I can't give in to mine :( oh well, it's helped to manage the weight gain!

clara16032010 - 1 days ago

So we took our little one to Disneyland tonight since all the Christmas stuff was up- it wasn't too crowded which was nice and the weather was not too cold- we had a really good time! About 15 mins into our ride home I started getting horrible pain! Mostly concentrated about 2 inches above my belly button on both the right and left--it hurt all over like a contraction pain but with no contracting--I'm still in the same pain but alot milder than before- the pain was so bad I almsot threw up in the car--I'm finally feeling a bit better-this has been a hard week my hubby has been working at 4am and has been exhausted--I'm him all day with our 18 month old and am exhausted in my own ways from this pregnancy and it causes alot of issues--he's also been working really hard on promotion he finally got ---sometimes I think he forgets I'm pregnant cause I feel like I get no sympathy or extra love and care from him--No back rubs or feet massages like I did he first time--I don't think I can remember the last time he's felt Noah kicking...makes me sad he isn't as involved in his pregnancy but I will give him credit for not missing any OB appointments and u/s--he never missed any with our first...must be a guy thing to just kinda keep going on as usual because the pregnancy isn't directly affecting them as it is us women...anyways can't wait for thankgiving! Would eat it right now if I could!

Berrymama - 2 days ago
What can you do for a shower if you will not know the gender prior to birth? Any ideas or anyone who has done this please comment on my poll. Thanks

luckypenny - 2 days ago
mrsmacd....that's great! I can't believe they came out re: a dirty house! I reported a family for physical/emotional abuse of a child and they found no grounds...unreal. They bother the good people and sweep everything else under the rug.

first babyboy - 2 days ago

mrsmacd - 2 days ago
CAS is going to 'close our protection file'! Yay! Thank you for your prayers! The worker that came last week unannounced came after having made an appointment and wonder of wonders found my house clean! LOL! She gushed at how beautiful my children were, how polite and well behaved, and said that she was 'closing the file' that she had to talk to her supervisor on Tuesday but that she was pretty sure they were closing the file!!! Woooo hooo!!! Deo Gratias!

michellel27 - 2 days ago
Balsamfir--So very thankful that you and little one are OK! When do you get to go home? I know it's hard but let someone else care for you for a while. You need your rest. Hang in there, I'm sure you will be just fine! As for x-mas, I think alot of us are concerned! We are preparing to move and I have no idea how we are going to be able to afford anything. We used all of our savings with my last pregnancy, as I can not work during my pregnancies. I never expected to have any more babies ;) I am only concerned about my 9 year old. I know there are alot of you with more older children than I, so I feel for you. I honestly can not believe we are talking about Christmas! Did we have a summer? I think I missed it. This weather is horrible. Work for hubby depends on the weather and it's not looking so good.

angela7011 - 2 days ago
