Born & Birth stories

Dates and numbers:
There are 43 days until your due date on April 29, 2010.
You are 237 days pregnant.
You are 7.8 months pregnant.
You are in your 8th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: July 23, 2009 to October 21, 2009. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: October 22, 2009 to February 03, 2010. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: February 04, 2010 to April 29, 2010. (28 - 40 weeks)

Your baby weighs about 4.4 pounds at this point. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is approximately 12 inches and the total length is around 19.4 inches. Measuring from the top of your uterus to your bellybutton is 5.2 inches. Total weight gain at this point of pregnancy is usually 22 to 28 pounds.

With the exception of crying, your baby is capable of doing everything that a newborn baby will do. Your baby is restricted now inside of the uterus, but still can kick and move. Your baby sleeps a lot of the time, just as newborn babies do. Your baby's eyes move in the manner of REM sleep and researchers believe that babies can dream vividly in uterus. When your baby is awake, she is listening, feeling and learning. There are billions of neurons in the brain that make trillions of connections. Your baby will probably have settled into the birth position by now and your caregiver can most likely tell which way your baby is presenting. If your baby were to be born now, the lungs would probably be strong enough to function properly, but your baby may still need extra care from specially trained doctors and nurses.

During these last few weeks of pregnancy, most women experience an increased urge to urinate. The uterus puts a lot of pressure on the bladder and can send you to the restroom frequently. Your uterus has actually grown 500 times throughout your pregnancy! Red blood cell production catches up with the production of plasma and physiological anemia may begin to fade at this time.

Your baby's eyes open during alert times and close during sleep. The eye color is usually blue, regardless of the permanent color as pigmentation is not fully developed. The final formation of eye pigmentation requires exposure to light and usually happens a few weeks after birth.

I'm from wk 32 and was just looking through here and saw that Mrs. Hutto is being induced... If anybody would feel free to fill me in to as why they are inducing so early... Is something wrong is she okay? I pray that everything goes well for her and baby... As well as to all the ladies that are pregers... We don't need anymore losses... God bless...

baby-no.2: That's so awesome that you guys are so close to each other and having opposites!! :) My sister is due 4 months after me and I'm so excited but secretly wish she was due closer to me ;)

baby-no.2 - 1.6 hours ago
I've dropped :) But now my back is soooo sore :( At least I can look forward to my baby shower on the 28th:) My sister is due 2 days after me and we're having our baby showers together. She's having a boy and we're having a girl. This should be fun!

ashraesy - 1.7 hours ago
I'm so frustrated! More car seat issues! My car had to go in to get a tether attatchment for the carseat to actually work in the car. So, my husband goes to put the seat in there and it doesn't work. I call my dad (who works at the dealership) and he said they had installed it the only way possible and that the strap on the car seat needs to be long. The strap on the car seat is not long. Why can nothing go smoothly for this baby?! I feel like crying! I'm sure everything will get figured out but everything just makes me want to cry these days :(

isaiahsmomee - luckily here in Calgary you are only allowed 2 support people in the room at a time and you must approve them and they must be wearing a bracelet. they don't even let people wait in a waiting room...so i don't have that problem. HOWEVER...if i were you, i would just say 'you know, im really sorry, and we would like you to be there as much as possible in the hospital after our little one is born, however having anyone but my husband in the room with me just makes me really uncomfortable and i'm not sure that i'll be able to properly focus on what i'm doing.' honestly, if it were me though i'd just be like, 'yeah right. not a chance grandma!' lol anywho...i'm off to week 34 now! bye ladies!!

ALSO I wanted to point out that sometimes people that wouldnt get on your nerves normally REALLY REALLY get on your nerves when you are in labor... I was trying to give birth to baby #2 and out of the corner of my eye all I could see was my mom getting her camera prepped and it just irked me... I literally stopped what I was concentrating on and look at her and told her to PUT IT AWAY until I say.... you dont need ALL THE HELP you can get.... too much is WAY to much for opinions and your right... daddy and nurse is PLENTY of help and there is only so much room and the room closes in on you the more people that congragate.

PUPPPS...that is what that rash is called. That particular one though starts on belly and will stay there for the most part, if it becomes severe it spreads to the limbs and breast but not the face. I HAVE IT!! =( I really hope you don't have it ASHLEY because it is horrible! If it didn't start on the belly most likely it is a different rash, hopefully short term. There is no cure for PUPPPS other then giving birth. Steroids will help but I refuse to take them while pregnant. It is known that 70% of women who get this during pregnancy end up with boys. I've only had girls in the past and have never had this. I don't know what I'm having this time around but we'll see if I am in the 70% or 30%

isaiahsmommee; Been there done that and having that alone time at birth and right after is priceless... I wouldnt go back to letting the family in right away for nothing. ALSO there is so much research done that shows how important it is for baby and mommy/daddy to have that first hour after birth atleast for baby to get accustomed to the parents and their voices/smells.... and birth is tramatic enough and if you put yourself in that situation could you imagine how TOO MUCH is just TOO MUCH? I think its more about the baby then it is about the feelings of overbearing family thinking they need to be there.

ashley - i was told by my birthing class instructor who had two boys that she had the itchiness as well. What her OB told her is that some women are slightly allergic to the testosterone their boys are producing and that's why you get itchy...she said that it got so bad sometimes that she would have to actually pull over when she was driving just so she could scratch everywhere!

babydreams08 - 2.6 hours ago
Isaiahsmomee - I feel the same way and did w/ my son too. I think overall everyone understood, but I did have an issue w/ my parents and in-laws coming into the L&D room at different times, not always flattering times either. It got to the point where I asked the nurse to not let anyone other than my husband back. They had an attendant at the maternity ward door who was on guard duty for me. I understand the family excitement but I'm pretty private and since its my privates hanging out I got a little more vocal. I still talk w/ everyone. No hard feelings. They got to see the baby all cleaned up, they didn't need to see everything else! :) Good luck! Take a stand for yourself and if needed get a bouncer to sit outside that door! :D

staceylouise - 2.7 hours ago
isaiahsmomee: I know exactly what you mean!! My sister in law has a tendency to sit at the hospital untill someone comes out and see's her and then lets herself into the room... I have told my midwife that no one is allowed in unless i let them... Me and my BF want to do it on our own... and even my sister has a hard time taking that in.. I have said to her that if we need her we will call... also they leave you in the delivery room for 2 hours before moving you to the ward here, and i dont want people coming into the delivery room cause they dont clean it till your gone... and becuase they didnt move my Sister In Law for about 6 hours and she didnt tell us that, we walked in to see a bloody mess all over the flood.. She didnt care about it, but i know i will... Im sorry but i would love to keep some dignity... but she keeps saying that i wont care at the time, and i wont care how many people are there... this may be true but it is what i want now, when im in the state of mind to make a decision... She is the type of person who thinks she knows best because she has done it already and will take over, and my BF just wants to help me on his own, plus i think it should be a special time between two people, not two pleople and sister, mother, and sister in law. She says you need all the help you can get, but thats why they have midwives, Dr.s and nurses... Sorry for the long msg.. but my sister in law has really gotten up my nose about this topic... not to mention that she knows best for everything to do with MY baby and pregnancy body!! It drives me insane!!!

hey ladies! glad im finally in this week.. hope the rest go by fast tho im sure im not going to hit the 40 since this is my 2nd and hes already completely dropped. oh well cant wait to meet him. Isaiahsmomee: you dont have to be rude when telling them no just be nice and say that you are uncomfortable with them being in there.. with my first son there were a ton of people that wanted to be in there and i either ignored the request or just said sorry but no. its a special time for you and your baby and youre allowed to be selfish with it and keep it all to yourself. and if its really hard to tell them (i know how pushy people can be) then just ask your doctor to do it. they get the request all the time and are great about letting people know that they just dont get to be in there. its totally ok to stand up for yourself and even more ok to want alone time during something that is as personal as labor and delivery!

ashraesy - 3.1 hours ago
Finally met the last doctor today. (At the hospital we go to, they like you meet all of them.) He told me the baby is head down :) And now, I'm in the one week group, going in every week :) But since last night, I've been just completley exhausted!! I napped a little today and planned to nap more but I just feel like I'm being useless when I do so I washed some baby blankets instead. Anyone else incredibly exhausted? Where you can't keep yor eyes open or finish a sentence? Or is it just me?

ashley-blesseddaily - 3.1 hours ago
Blessed123-I have an apt in the morning so I will talk to her then! Thanks ; )

1timegrandma - 4.7 hours ago
Ok I have a question maybe one of you can help. My poor daughter woke me up lastnight and said she was having pains at the top of her uterus. She was also saying that her back hurt real bad. SO I got up and started timing them to see if we needed to go to the hospital. They where 4 minutes apart. After about 1 and 1/2 hours she felt better. I never had BH so I don't know if these could have been bh are should she call her doctor to be checked?

isaiahsmomee - 5.1 hours ago
Speaking of controlling families, I really don't want to hurt anyones feelings but I don't want them in the room during my labor. How do you get that point across without hurting their feelings? Specially the grandmother. I mentioned it to her at my baby shower last Sunday and she starting getting very defensive. Not sure how to manage this..any suggestion?? Please help!

WendyO1 - 5.6 hours ago
CheleO-No offense, but I am SO glad not to be the senior of the group. Thanks for piping up (he-he) God bless you.~Mrs. Hutto...You must be SO excited. God bless both you and your new LO. Praying everything goes well. Let us know as soon as you can.

blessed123 - 5.7 hours ago
mrswilliams.. im so sorry! It's good that it is all ok but i hate that you cant breath!! It scares me to feel that way!

mrs williams - 5.8 hours ago
I feel lousy today. I cant breathe, contractions take my breathe, and I have pain and pressure down there. I called the doc and went to see him. He checked me and said everything is ok. Its just an uncomfortable time right now to go on for weeks. This really sucks!! I can deal with contractions, but this not being able to breathe is almost panick feeling! I do not like this at all!

blessed123 - 6.1 hours ago

lisa-babyno1 - 14.1 hours ago
shakes - my little one gets the hiccups about twice a day!! it was cute at first seeing my tummy moving with each hiccup but as you said after a while i start thinking ok you can stop now...lol :o) she moves A LOT as well, always wriggling around in there!! not long and our little ones will be here!!!! i think i may do my hospital bag this weekend...but will probably end up re-packing it again at a later date! lol

Kat-babyno1 - 15.5 hours ago
BrittanyG - I can hear like a clicking noise coming from inside my tummy sometimes, no idea what it is but I@m hoping it's me n not baby.

maruskah - 17.7 hours ago
Seriously, I agree with alot of you about the girl in the 20 weeks. It seriously doesn't sound right. We really and honestly need to be thankful for everything that we've got and be thankful for the things/changes we experience everyday cause at the end it makes us stronger! My baby boy is kicking up a storm. I'm so happy to feel him move and kick etc. Cannot wait to hold him in my arms.!! Counting of the days till then. Anyway, Hope that you will all have a superfantastic day! :-)

shakes - 22.5 hours ago
k, seriously...this child has been hiccuping SSOOOOO much. i love when i feel the movements and stuff but the hiccuping is REALLY starting to drive me crazy...is that horrible???

milesmommy08 - 1 days ago
my son never liked a pacifier I tried it just because it is suppose to help with sids. I will try it again with this baby but if she takes it I will only use it for the first few months. I can't stand to see a toddler with one in their mouth. Plus all the germs. The little girl I recently stopped babysitting was still using one at 20 months and her mom never washed them. I used to wash them for her and sterilize them because they grossed me out. I hope to be able to bf my son never latched on and I pumped until milk dried up.

amber242 - 1 days ago
mrsjdwilliams - I bet mine can beat yours... lets just say one of her MANY little sneaky things she did was after telling me she didn't want to be in the labor room w/ me when I had Eli (It's not like I was going to have her there anyways, i was pushing him out of ME). DURING his funeral she got an attitude and hubby & I wondered what her problem was just figured it was being upset. A week later she emails my husband, not me & says how she was so upset I had my mom, sister & him in the room and didn't allow her. HELLO WOMAN you said you didn't want to be in the room and it was my 1st, i needed my support!!! See if that crazy woman will ever be invited in the labor room. She always is nice to my face but talks crap to my hubby about stuff that has to do with me and hates my family. I know it's my family but they are great & very nice to EVERYONE. She is now taking it out on Jeremiah and hasn't even sent a single blanket she said she was going to make for him and made the rude comment that 'second babies' shouldn't have a baby shower. OK I'll stop but trust me mine is a B#*CH

shakes - 1 days ago
ashley - are you having a boy?

mrsjdwilliams - 1 days ago
lol lol...so i normally go around peaking a different weeks just reading when i'm bored. i see the hot topic is annoying parents or IL....i'm not even going to get started on mine cause boy i tell you ya'lls are nothing like my mom and MIL. guess i need to stay away from this week or i'll be on here typing a 6 pg vent! LOL

jennybee1022 - 1 days ago
Wow! I guess we all go through it some what, thanks for the advice everyone! I feel much better I'm not crazy lol. My parents had their chance they had 5 kids of their own now its my time and my rules :)

ashley-blesseddaily - 1 days ago
Ladies, I have another strange question.........does anyone else feel swollen and itchy all over?! It is driving me nuts today! I know my fingers are swollen, b/c I can not wear my rings, my feet get swollen if I am on them too much but today my entire body has felt swollen ad I itch all over!!!HELP!!!

brittany gordon - 1 days ago
ok so i might be going crazy from being on bedrest for so long. Last night i had my hand resting on my belly feeling the baby roll around and i swear i felt one of his bones breaking. Am i losing my mind or can this really happen?

shakes - 1 days ago
milesmommy - i've told myself that i'm going to wait until i'm 35 weeks to pack the bags...otherwise i'll probably just end up unpacking and repacking a million times :P it sucks though because i really want to get everything ready!

commongoal - 1 days ago
AMBER : With my first I did both right away, binkie and breast fed...no problem with her. I was not able to breastfeed (no milk) and it was really hard because she did not want the bottle but loved the breast (lol...although she barely got sips out of it) and her binkie. I, as well have always hated binkies...My first daughter was so attached to hers until about 2 years and it was heartbreaking taking it from her. With my second, the nurses gave her one as soon as she was born because she stayed in NICU for 9 days, I took it from her shortly after. I always said I would not do a binkie again BUT now I am eating my words. I had no idea that it is so much better for them. I will definitely USE one for my little one and breastfeed (try my best) this time around.

milesmommy08 - 1 days ago
So how is everyone coming with getting the babys room ready and bags packed for the hospital? I got my daughters bag packed and mine almost done. I ordered a matching set for me and daughter for the hospital from oldnavy can't wait to get it and pack it. Anyone else bringing there own towels or pillow? I get grossed out thinking about a towel someone else used. I am bringing clorox wipes and flipflops for the shower. Maybe I am paranoid.

shakes - 1 days ago
yeah, apparently sids isn't really a risk for the first month of a babies life but the risk greatly increases from 2-4 months but decreases considerably after 6 months to one year... i plan on using a soother for naps and bedtime only until it's between 9-12 months

1st time mommy 5.4.10 - 1 days ago
I have ALWAYS HATED paci...but now that I am preggo and I have been reading that a paci prevents sids early on...I think I will use one only for sleeping and only for the first few months..Last u/s on Tues can't wait to see my lil girl!!!

oopixiesticks - 1 days ago
shakes- im having a girl.... and like everyone im gettin annoyed hearing of my mil and my parents making comments about what to do with my baby.. expecialy cuz im only 20 and this is the first grandchild for both my parents and my hubbys parents they think there in control! and with stuff that i buy for my baby they tell me some of the stuff that i pick out is unnecessary.. but my mil really drive me crazy when she calls my baby herrr baby or OUR baby and that she has to buy the baby an extra swing and playpen to keep in her room which i think thats unessecary because she make it sound like i wont be around to watch my own baby when i definitly will and i hate that theres 2 big dogs in this house and ones a pitbull and i really dont want my baby by that dog cuz i know itl think my baby is a toy and it annoying to hear her talk about ohh how cute it guna be to see the dogs reactions to the baby and how ther guna play with each other!! I DOnt think soo!!!

amber242 - 1 days ago
a fun thing you guys might want to do... last night we took a poll of what my family thought Jeremiah's birth weight & length would be. I hope I'm the closets since I am carrying him lol

amber242 - 1 days ago
with my last my parents had too much to say too much. My hubby & I put our foot down & told him he was our baby & our responsibility!!!!! If they didn't like it get over it or don't say it to us b/c we were sick of them acting like we were clueless about parenting. It really made me feel bad. I didn't want to upset them but got sick of the constant input. This time around they understand and keep their mouths shut!!!

shakes - 1 days ago
i know exactly how you ladies feel about overbearing families. my family is great...they'll give me their opinion if i ask or suggestions if i ask...but only if i ask! whereas my other half's family is just the opposite. 'why're you doing this?' etc etc. it drives me INSANE. and they're around ALL THE TIME...i just would like to have my own life. too much to ask?
