Dates and numbers: There are 157 days until your due date on April 29, 2010.
You are 123 days pregnant.
You are 4 months pregnant.
You are in your 5th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: July 23, 2009 to October 21, 2009. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: October 22, 2009 to February 03, 2010. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: February 04, 2010 to April 29, 2010. (28 - 40 weeks)
Your baby's weight has doubled in two weeks and now weighs about 3.5 ounces! The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches. If you spread your hand out opened wide, you can see about how big your baby is.
Your uterus is moving up and is now approximately 1.5 to 2 inches below your navel. You are showing more now and there is a noticeable swelling in your abdomen. At this point in your pregnancy, a 5 to 10 pound weight gain is normal. Other people can probably feel the difference in your lower abdomen if they were to rub your tummy. To be the most comfortable, you should be wearing maternity clothes or clothing that is too large for you. You may have felt your baby move already. However, you might not feel it move every day at this point. As your pregnancy progresses, movements become stronger and more frequent. Feeling your baby move can help reassure you that your baby is doing well. You might also notice that your gums or nose bleed occasionally. This is from the increased blood volume that puts pressure on small blood vessels and capillaries.
Huge changes continue to take place within your developing baby. This week fat begins to form and will continue to do so until he is born. Fat is important to the body's heat production and metabolism. Right now, at 17 weeks, water makes up about 3 ounces and fat 0.018 ounces of your baby's body. In a baby at term, fat makes up about 5.25 pounds of the total average weight of 7.7 pounds. The placenta is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. The placenta will continue to develop in tandem with the fetus and it will weigh more than a pound at birth! By this week, the placenta is large and well established with a network of blood vessels that exchange nutrients and waste.
The eyes are facing more forward. The ears are now close to their final position.
Your baby is more flexible with ability to move head, mouth, lips, arms, wrists, hands, legs, feet, and toes.

Hi everyone!! I go in for my 18 week appt tomorrow and I'm excited to hear the little one's heartbeat. I don't find out the gender until Dec. 8 so I bought a Graco Pre-natal heart beat listener to keep me busy until our exciting day. I cannot yet find the heartbeat so I was wondering have any of you had any experience or success with this product this early on?

I think I felt the baby move last night!! I didn't think I'd feel it so soon seeing as this is my first pregnancy so I could be wrong...it was a feeling that only lasted a few seconds. Felt like I was being tickled from the inside!!

Ahhh! 17wks! Almost 1/2way through. Though I do feel as I'm already 1/2 way since I'm convinced I'm having this baby in the middle of April, rather than May 2nd. My ultrasound isn't until Dec 18, which seems like forever away! I asked my Dr to do it early, and she said she would, but she prefers to wait until at least 20wks for a better chance of little one cooperating to take a peak! I guess that's ok with me! I'm SO ready to start showing, and feeling him move!! Oh yeah, I'm also convinced it's a boy. :0) Hope you're all doing well!!!

Hello ladies, I have been following the blog since about 10 weeks, and today I read something that made me want to write. My message is for everyone, but especially Mrs. Hutto. When I was 17 weeks pregnant with my daughter, Gracen, an Alfa Feta Protein test said the odds were 1 in 10 that she would have Down Syndrome. A level two US confirmed that she had a very serious heart defect and several other soft markers for DS. We turned down the amnio because it was not going to make a difference. Gracen was born on 12/28/07, and she did, in fact, have DS. Gracen went on to have her first heart surgery at 5 weeks old, her second at 4 months, and her third at 5 months old. Gracen passed away on Valentine's Day this year. She was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to us. What a blessing. We felt that God truly blessed us for 13 months and now she has been made perfect, and we will see her again. PLEASE know that I do not tell you any of this to scare you, but to tell you that the diagnosis is scary when you first hear it, but these children are such a special blessing from God. I pray that your baby is born healthy, and without DS, but I do know that if he does have DS, he will be such a blessing to you and all who are blessed to meet him. We have been through a super difficult time the past two years, but we would do it all again, to have those 13 months with Gracen. And now, the Lord has blessed us yet again and I am due 4/30. If I can help you in any way, please let me know. I will pray that things are all well with your little boy. God bless you!

etrocks- i feel for you. my 9th month of pregnancy my son stayed on mine and i cried when I walked sometimes. Not only was the baby weight heavy then my back was killin me. It went away as soon as I had him. I was jumping for joy!!! Hope this treatment helps :-)
etrocks - 2 days ago
The chiropractor has helped with sciatica, I can at least walk now. I will need to go & see him 2x a week! I also will be getting a 'medical' massage for the pain, and on my insurance. I always said I would never go to a chiropractor but I didn't know what else to do. Anyone else already getting a sciatica? With my son the only thing I had throughout was restless leg syndrome which was annoying more then anything. My dh used to make fun of me cuz I could never sit still or in bed my legs were going a mile a minute! This time I think he feels bad for me. Of course when I can't walk I can't get up & make him dinner lol!

MrsHutto there are risks with having an Amnio, but they are low. Ask the place you are going to for their specific data. The general finding is 1 in 300 have a miscarriage due to the amnio, but the place i went to was 1 in 900. Also, now that they are using a continuous ultrasound during the amnio, the risks are much lower. BabyCentre has a lot of info on it.
ashraesy - 2 days ago
A few more things I forgot to mention.
I'm having terrible headaches too. I have an appointment on Weds so I'm going to have them give me the prescription for it because I have a history with migrains, ugh.
Also, I'm not doing the amnio. Is anyone else not?
I'll be about 17 1/2 weeks pregnant when I go to my next appointment and I'm not finding out the gender. So my 'big ultrasound' should be at the next appointment after that, right? The reason I'm worried is because my husband has to work during my next appointment so I'm really hoping it's just another heartbeat and vitals check. Isn't it usually around week 20 or so when the big ultrasound is?
Hope everyones feeling good these days!!

It feels sooo good to be 17 weeks pregnant. I'm out of zofran now but the past few days I have felt nothing but GREAT!! It's a complete change for me. I was having it pretty rough and I think the MS is finally starting to head out the door!! Food doesn't gross me out anymore either so I can actually eat and I'm not throwing it up after. I can't stop smiling because I just feel so good finally! Of course I'm suffering backaches and whatnot but I'll take that over MS anyday!!
Arcola21 - 2 days ago
I just cant believe that this year is almost over!!Where did it all go?? I will be 18 weeks tomorrow. The past few weeks have flown by!! My MS has eased up tremendously!! Usually I only need to take 1 zofran in the morning and as long as I keep food in my belly I am fine! Thats a big improvement from taking 3 every day and still getting sick!! I hope everyone still dealing with HORRIBLE MS gets some relief soon!!

Mrs Hutto :- The downs syndrome test are nothing to worry about if they come back with a slight risk. I had an amniosentesis when i carried my second child as the test results came back high risk for a disease named Edwards syndrome. Which is not pleasant. However thats why I opted for the amnio. As it turned out all was well and they could tell me for certain that he was going to be a boy. Which was a bonus :). I have loads of friends (young and older) who's tests have came back high risk for DS and it has always worked out to be completely fine. You should try not to worry so much hunni. Only worry when its completely necessary....thats always been my way of dealing with things :) Good luck!!

Bethany7053 - 2 days ago
also wanted to say, I look like I've put on tons of weight, but went to the doctor to find out I barely put on a pound. not sure if it has to do with all my exercising. nurse didn't seem too worried. anyone else?
Bethany7053 - 2 days ago
mrs.hutto- hello, when I went into my week 13 ob appt, my doctor talked about all the testing. he explained I have a 1/1000 chance for DS, but if I did the blood work/urine testing & they found anything abnormal, they would want to go into the fluid & test it which drops me to a 1/200 chance for my baby to have DS. He said he believes that it does sometimes cause things to happen. he said that the 20 week ultrasound usually gives doctors a pretty good idea if the baby is developing DS due to the neck folds. I hope everything goes well with you & baby.

its 2:30 am and i'm awake?!?!? Going to try to sleep, have the big ultrasound in the AM. Oh, first day in week 17 :-D
MrsHutto - 2 days ago
Thank yall so much! I will deff. Keep it updated. Yall have made me feel so much better bout this. This next 11 days are gonna be hard waiting on test. They want me to get the test where the get fluid with that needle. Is there any risks with that? I'm scared it might hurt the baby.

Just went to the dr.s and had another ultrasound. Thank goodness the 4D specialist was there and told us we are having a boy. Baby looks fine, and heard the sweet little ones heartbeat. Amazing. I took the intelligender test a week ago, and it said that I was having a girl, so be careful about believing results from that. Good Luck Ladies
gurujit - 3 days ago
Just went to the doctor and heard the little one's heartbeat! The most amazing music to my ears :) I've felt the baby move a few times this past week but the doctor says it is really common not to have felt the baby at this point and it will be more prominent around 20 weeks.
2 weeks from today we have our ultrasound and hopefully will find out what we are having!! Can't wait and congrats to all those who have already found out.
And MrsHutto - my sister-in-law had a positive response to the blood test and my nephew was fine, so definitely some error there.

Had an ultra sound... and its a BOY! Im happy to join the Blue Team!
commongoal - 3 days ago
MrsHutto : Congrats and welcome to the blue team =) No matter what, your baby is a blessing and it is very good to hear that if he has DS it does not change your mind on keeping him. If he does have DS, keep in mind that he is God's gift and he has been sent to a wonderful person to take care of his special gift. Keep us posted and let us know what the results turn out to be...xoxo
