12 months old Your baby is a year old! Looking back over the past year, it is amazing how fast she has grown and developed! It probably has been an exciting and eventful year. She may be walking, but if she is not she will be soon! She can climb up and down the stairs and may be able to climb out of her crib or playpen. She likes to take the lids off of containers. Give her a tupperware container that she can put toys in and watch her get it open! She is also becoming more independent and insists upon doing things on her own. Although she is not very good at it, she tries to dress herself. Allow her to help button, snap, tie and velcro her outfits and shoes.

You may have noticed that your baby's babbling has quieted. Now that he is mobile, he will be less interested in talking and more interested in moving. He still likes to hear new words and will try to repeat what he hears.

Your child is very adament about her likes and dislikes. She is still afraid of strangers and new places. Make sure you give her the time she needs to adjust to new situations. When she develops a relationship with someone new, she will gain trust in them as well. Your baby still does not like to be away from you and is relieved when you come back for her. She will be able to show affection now by hugs and kisses.

Because your baby's memory is getting better, he remembers where things are and will go find them. He will continue to try to solve problems, but may become frustrated if he does not succeed after several attempts. If you tell him to do something, chances are he will. Remember to give him clear, simple and precise commands so that he will be able to easily understand what you are asking of him.

Mealtimes might become a challenge because your baby wants to move and explore. Encourage her to eat when the rest of the family eats. If she is not interested in eating, it is best not to force her. She will eat when she is hungry. When she is one year old, she will be ready for whole milk.

Teach your child about shapes, colors, sizes and differences. Provide a variety of toys, games and activities to promote learning. She still will like to read and sing. Now that she can move better, she might even like to dance to music.

Memedawn and Spellfrey - Congrats and Happy Bday to your LO's!!!! So i continued my post in 13 mths.....think this is the first month i have been overdue! 3 days late. Rmber on the 'blueies' u would move on midnight in2 the next week!!! hahahahah!!

hopeful29 - Thursday, 27 Oct
I actually read an article saying that babies are easier to train before 18months seeing as they like to imitate and that it only became later once the diaper companies started making disposable diapers. We shall see, she always watches me go and is very interested in the toilet! She is a smart one thats for sure. It will probably be awhile before she gets it completely and will be harder for me to do seeing as I'm working but maybe come christmas holidays I can get her mostly trained at least during the days. Shye never ever poops in front of me she goes and hides in another room, and they say that means they are ready....who knows...and I use months too cupcake using 1 year just doesn't sound right! I finally talked to my hubby and he is coming home Monday for a week!!! Excited but sucks I still have to go to work and I'm still bring keira to daycare for most of the week if not the whole week cause I have to pay regardless...

cupcake83 - Thursday, 27 Oct
i start to post and now i'm getting called away..i'll reply more later!!!! Kash - ALREADY?!?!?!?!? that doies not bode well! b back in a bit

cupcake83 - Thursday, 27 Oct
Hhahahaha Kathleen!!! Yes, the smugness will go away!! I think thats a GREAT idea and far more personal than a registered gift. We don't do that whole registered gift thing here. I would find it odd to have someone kinda tell me what to get them! I rmber u asking at 36 wks how u will know you're in labour and me just saying TRUST me you'll know!! hahaha!! Then there was that whole 36 wks argument!! LOL!!! We prob should move over to 13 mths!!! When did we stop counting in weekS??? I rmber someone asking me how old Ol was and me replying 16 wks! Then it goes to months and now yrs!! Who says 1 and who says 13 mths? I say months!! I don't wanna to get to the point of saying 1 ANDA HALF, then nearly 2 etc etc!! AAARGH!!! Hopeful- WOW at the toilet training! I would of thought 13 mths was too young for her to associate the sensation of needing a wee to actually going for one! If she is ready then great but i will be shocked!!! I hope you aren't missing your hubby too much - like you say it must be hard to stay connected. It shows how committed and strong your relationship is that u can get thru it! :)

hopeful29 - Thursday, 27 Oct
Keira peed in the toilet last night after her bath!!! I just put her on and said 'go pee pee' and she held her breath for a sec and peed. I was so proud!!! So I'm going to start potty training. Going to have to be up to the daycare mostly during the day so hopefully she's ready!! The sooner she is out of diapers the better!!! I guess I was potty trained at 15 months so its not that far off! She has always been so facinatated with the toilet. Now its the question, should I get her a small potty or just a smaller seat for the toilet itself???? I think a potty at this point she might just always pick it up and walk around with it! Anyone have advice?
