Children learn through play. As your child becomes increasingly interested in more advanced toys, you can make some fun things for him to play with. Not all of his toys need to be store bought. They just need to be safe and stimulating. Your toddler might even be able to help you make something new! Parents and caregivers should play with their children and encorage active learning. When playing, it is best to let him lead the way. After playing for a while your child's way, show him how to something another way. Show him how to combine toys to make playtime more fun. Your child may become aftraid of the dark and may stop playing in his room alone.
Your child is interested in small things. Bugs, pebbles, crumbs and other small items are fun for her. Your child can stoop and stand back up agian. Sometimes your child will drop things just to have you pick them up for her. If you are not careful, this will soon turn into a game that she loves!
Your child can let you know when she wants something and is beginning to increase her vocabulary. He likes to make sounds and might scream to let you know just how powerful his voice can be. He inititates games and will bring you books or toys that he enjoys.
By fourteen months, you will have to limit the amount of television your toddler watches. The television should not be used as a babysitter and the programs she watches should be monitored. Watching the television does not give your toddler a chance to explore and develop muscles.
A child this age is mobile and curious! Take special precautions to prevent poisoning. Everyday items can be poisonous if a child were to consume them. Colognes, cleaners, spices, garden plants, and lots of other items are dangerous. Keeping a clean and clutter free home can help eliminate hazards. Keep the number of the poison control center posted at each phone in case of an emergency.
Discipline can be hard, but it is an important part of parenting. Disciplining your child is important to help them grow into responsible adults. By fourteen months, your child already has developed a close bond with you. He knows that you love him and he trusts you. During the second year of life, toddlers want to please their parents by completing simple instructions. Your child will also begin to mimic your behaviors. Set your rules and stick to them. When your child is misbehaving, pull them aside and remind them of the rules.

Grace was weighed today she now weighs 20lb 15oz. Her new words are drink, look, some, eese(please) and down. We have an inglenook fireplace that has a seating area at the side of the open fireplace. We made it a rule that Grace wouldnt be allowed up there so that when we start to light the fire, she already knows that its out of bounds. Anyway suddenly this wk Grace is constantly getting up into it and we keep saying 'down' to her before picking up off the fireplace so now she gets up onto it smiles at us and says 'down.' Little minx LOL We have now started to ignore her instead but she looks so cute standing there grinning and shouting 'down' debsandgrace -

I had thought about getting Madison a kitchen for Christmas but she does not play with the one at our playgroup. I was glad that I could see if she was interested at first before buying it. She did flip out about this baby at the store today. It crawls(motion activated)All the babies started crawling when we walked by. She laughed and squealed. So Santa will getting one for Madison. judi -

I'm still breastfeeding Penny, too. That little kitchen set looks great. I wonder if we'd have space for one. :) Penny has a musical piano keyboard thing that she LOVES and when Jason was little he had one of those soft chairs and he just about lived in the thing, but my girls never liked them particularly. munchkinsmommie -

Congrats Mgmommy!!!! Lilli--My mom got Madison and tent and tunnel last week. Madison loves it. She goes in out of the tent and tunnel all day. I say where is Madison and peeks out of it and giggle. My mom spoils my kids( I would not have it another way). I had told her last week that Madison loves the tent at our playgroup and Nanny went out and got her one. But she does love it so. mummysboy -

Mgmummy its sounds like you're pregnant to me... Those tests are all basically the same no matter how cheap... As long as the control line worked you can say the test worked. Maybe wait a few days before you retest? Give the hormones chance to increase.mae18 -

Hi there mummysboy how are you & Ossian doing? Aw you will have to take a pic of him in his christening outfit.
mqmommy I have read it is possible to get a false negative but not a false positive pregnancy test. We havd the false neg on the first cheap one I did with Heidi then 3 positives. It does sound like you may well be though.mgmommy -

I have a question... I took a pregnancy test yesterday and there was an extremely faint line. I took another one this morning and had the same thing, barely visible - it's to where I think I'm seeing things. It's a cheapy test and I am going to go buy some better ones later.. Do you think it could be just the test? I am kind of hoping so, I'm really not ready for another one yet :/mummysboy -

I've made a real rod for my back! Ossian is addicted to his dummy. He wants to constantly suck on it and makes whining noises when he wants something because his mouth is full. I tried a morning without giving him the dummy and he lay on the floor screaming like I was killing him! Oh lord!mummysboy -

I am breastfeeding also, just before sleep though. She has frozen milk right now. Cows milk made her tummy upset but will try again when the frozen is gone. She LOVES her kitchen set. This is a picture of her standing on it. I did a lot of research and this is the one that got the best reviews.

Yeah I am sooo sick of the baby toy age!! They are all the same with the same songs. I want to get Wyatt one of those little kid laptops since he loves pushing buttons and sitting at the computer. He is so unamused by toddler toys because he masters them so quick. I still think he is too young for the interactive older ones and I dont want him to get sick of them before he can actually learn from them so I am sticking with older stuff that doesnt really do anything (art stuff, legos, stuff that he can play with at his own pace). He loooves the kitchen set at daycare but my husband said no way he can only have a tool bench haha. My parents are getting him a tunnel and tent and we got him a slide so thats enough big stuff for this year. Also, we broke out the little tikes chairs that came with his train table and he loooooves sitting in them! He cant quite get up on his own but he points and when we put him on he will sit there for like 10 minutes at a time playing with his toys or doing art at his table. SUch a little person!
