Children learn through play. As your child becomes increasingly interested in more advanced toys, you can make some fun things for him to play with. Not all of his toys need to be store bought. They just need to be safe and stimulating. Your toddler might even be able to help you make something new! Parents and caregivers should play with their children and encorage active learning. When playing, it is best to let him lead the way. After playing for a while your child's way, show him how to something another way. Show him how to combine toys to make playtime more fun. Your child may become aftraid of the dark and may stop playing in his room alone.
Your child is interested in small things. Bugs, pebbles, crumbs and other small items are fun for her. Your child can stoop and stand back up agian. Sometimes your child will drop things just to have you pick them up for her. If you are not careful, this will soon turn into a game that she loves!
Your child can let you know when she wants something and is beginning to increase her vocabulary. He likes to make sounds and might scream to let you know just how powerful his voice can be. He inititates games and will bring you books or toys that he enjoys.
By fourteen months, you will have to limit the amount of television your toddler watches. The television should not be used as a babysitter and the programs she watches should be monitored. Watching the television does not give your toddler a chance to explore and develop muscles.
A child this age is mobile and curious! Take special precautions to prevent poisoning. Everyday items can be poisonous if a child were to consume them. Colognes, cleaners, spices, garden plants, and lots of other items are dangerous. Keeping a clean and clutter free home can help eliminate hazards. Keep the number of the poison control center posted at each phone in case of an emergency.
Discipline can be hard, but it is an important part of parenting. Disciplining your child is important to help them grow into responsible adults. By fourteen months, your child already has developed a close bond with you. He knows that you love him and he trusts you. During the second year of life, toddlers want to please their parents by completing simple instructions. Your child will also begin to mimic your behaviors. Set your rules and stick to them. When your child is misbehaving, pull them aside and remind them of the rules.

I have a question... I took a pregnancy test yesterday and there was an extremely faint line. I took another one this morning and had the same thing, barely visible - it's to where I think I'm seeing things. It's a cheapy test and I am going to go buy some better ones later.. Do you think it could be just the test? I am kind of hoping so, I'm really not ready for another one yet :/mummysboy -

I've made a real rod for my back! Ossian is addicted to his dummy. He wants to constantly suck on it and makes whining noises when he wants something because his mouth is full. I tried a morning without giving him the dummy and he lay on the floor screaming like I was killing him! Oh lord!mummysboy -

I am breastfeeding also, just before sleep though. She has frozen milk right now. Cows milk made her tummy upset but will try again when the frozen is gone. She LOVES her kitchen set. This is a picture of her standing on it. I did a lot of research and this is the one that got the best reviews.

Yeah I am sooo sick of the baby toy age!! They are all the same with the same songs. I want to get Wyatt one of those little kid laptops since he loves pushing buttons and sitting at the computer. He is so unamused by toddler toys because he masters them so quick. I still think he is too young for the interactive older ones and I dont want him to get sick of them before he can actually learn from them so I am sticking with older stuff that doesnt really do anything (art stuff, legos, stuff that he can play with at his own pace). He loooves the kitchen set at daycare but my husband said no way he can only have a tool bench haha. My parents are getting him a tunnel and tent and we got him a slide so thats enough big stuff for this year. Also, we broke out the little tikes chairs that came with his train table and he loooooves sitting in them! He cant quite get up on his own but he points and when we put him on he will sit there for like 10 minutes at a time playing with his toys or doing art at his table. SUch a little person!bumpage -

My Mum couldn't think of what to get Heidi so I asked if she could get her a baby pram for her doll. They all seem to say 3+ years but she uses them at baby groups. I mean if we take the babies to playdays there are loads of different toys there & we don't always know the recomended ages for them. I think it is more a case of just keeping an eye on our little ones. We bought her a car paddeling pool for her birthday & that said ages 3-8 but only coz it is larger than the tiny ones for younger kids. we filled it with balls & she loves it.Haileymaysmommy -

sexibrowneyedmama2be- Hailey has quite a few toys that are meant for older children and with all of them i just take away parts that i think could be dangerous or too small. As Hailey has become very disinterested in the baby toys lately and i find their is not a whole lot out there for this age group as they are too small for tiny pieces etc but too advanced for the boring baby toys.Haileymaysmommy -

*lilygracesmummy*- Hailey got a pretend kitchen for her birthday and she loves it. She has all the plastic play food for it too and she spends hours putting food in and out on the fridge, stove etc, and putting her little dolls blanket in and out of the washing machine. I would recommend a wooden one if you can find one. Hailey's is a wooden little tykes one and it's much better quality than the plastic ones, looks so much more real and isnt so much of an eye sore in your house lol. nik -

Okay ladies, Kailey has officially been bottle free for 24 hours! Last night she slept better than ever! I was so worried because she usually wakes up every 4 or 5 hours for a bottle, but I didn't hear a peep until 5:00am. I hope that wasn't just a fluke...what if she wakes up tonight wanting a bottle though? Should I just give her some water in a sippy and hope that will work? Man, this baby stuff is hard work, hahaha! But we all know that! Oh and I am getting her a rocking horse and one of those tiny couches that folds out. She always sits on a photo box like it's her own little chair, so I think she will love it.brandyboo -

I do plan on stuffing his stocking with straw cups (he just mastered them), crayola things and some snacks that he loves. I see my husband's niece and nephew (4 and 7) who are soooo spoiled and get sooo much for Xmas because they expect it. Wyatt is a clean slate and we are really trying to make holidays (especially XMas) about christmas music and making cookies and a bunch of little traditions where the presents are just the perk. I looooooooove Christmas!!lilli1317 -

I am not going crazy on Christmas because I see the money it costs and then I see him NOT play with it! We have so many toys now I am constantly rotating them. In his playroom he either doesnt know what to play with or he will go for the same toy (a VTech helicopter) over and over again. I figure less is more at this age although I am encouraging people to buy older toys since we will need stuff for him to grow into throughout the year.momentfrozenintime -

Hailey - That's a lot of stuff! haha I would go crazy, too, if I had all the money to! I want to make it a special day whether he can remember it or not, and I'm like that with most holidays. I didn't even think about the stocking stuffers, though! Oh my!momentfrozenintime -

Cailet - That would annoy me too! I don't really know how you would change that because I think most people would just not give the child what they want when they scream like that. Maybe you can encourage her to ask for things (not just juice)?Cailet -
Wednesday, 18 Nov
Hubby has trained larkyn to whine and cry when she wants things! When she wanted her cup and it was out of reach, she used to hold her hands out to it and say 'more' or 'juice'. It was really cute and she'd say it a few times in a row until she go tit, but hubby started not listening and she'd say it over and over then Whine really loud or scream at him, and he'd give it to her. She quickly figured out she can skip asking and just scream and get it. ARGH! Now she NEVER says more or juice, and 'juice' sounded so cute the way she said it. (yeah I know it's dumb to miss hearing a word, lol) I don't want her to scream or whine for things and it's become how she asks for stuff. It's really annoying being around other kids who do that and we never allowed our older girls to act that way, so not sure how to get her to stop! I want to smack him for not paying attention to her and giving her stuff when she asked nicelymummysboy -

Haileymaysmommy she is lucky that she has a mummy that loves her so much :) ossian loves the night garden too, we have a story and music cd of it and I play it when we are getting ready for bath time. Its my favourite moment of the day. He sways back and forth to the music. Its annoying when I tried to read to him as he only wanted to turn the pages or shut the book!
