16 months old Self-esteem starts early and your child is beginning to realize if people like her or not. She knows when people are happy or upset with her actions. She needs to know that you still love her and accept her even when she misbehaves. Your child's self-esteem is made up of the thoughts and feelings she has of herself. This is effected by the way people treat her. It is important that she knows she is loved and important. Building self-esteem is an important job for parents and caregivers.

Your child is becoming very independent and wants to do everything on his own. Your child can be very self centered and selfish at times. Allow him the opportunity to express his personality and do as much as he can for himself. Support him and guide him when he needs help. If he gets frustrated, he is unlikely to try again.

Your child can understand simple commands and likes to please you-most of the time. While she still enjoys reading and looking at books, her attention span is short and she may not listen to an entire story. She does like to point to pictures in a book and talk about them. This will also help her vocabulary to develop.

It is a good idea to give your child meals and snacks around the same time each day. Breakfast is very important to ensure that your child stays active and alert throughout the day. If he does not want to eat right after he wakes up, that is okay. Offer him breakfast an hour or two after he wakes up. Because of their small stomachs, snacks are important to make sure your child is not hungry. Offer nutritional snacks mid morning and mid afternoon. Encourage your child to eat the foods that you have prepared and don't make separate meals for him. Your child can eat what you eat at this point.

Water play is fun for young children. Give your child a small tub of water or pool to play in. Offer her measuring cups and spoons, assorted containers, water wheels and anything else that holds water. Bathime is always a great time for water play.

Glad you've found something that's working for you!! :-)

hopeful29 - Wednesday, 15 Feb
Hey Kathleen! I am still on the cleanse have been for a week now. I lost this original 10 lbs before I started (I'm guessing water weight) and 5 lbs since I've been on it. I know its going to slow right down for the remaining 15 days or so I have left but once I'm done my intention is to continue counting calories eating healthy and exercise. This cleanse is great, I feel great on it. I thought it would be hard to sacrifice my fav things like diet coke and coffee but amazingly I don't miss anything. I do however miss cheese! I love cheese. But on the cleanse I can't have dairy (they say your body can't digest cows milk properly) however you are allowed to have almond milk??? Whatever that is. I don't like milk so its no biggy but cheese OMG lol.So its basically a shake in the morning snack around 1030 (I normally have a hard boiled egg) a shake at lunch another snack at 230 ( I normally have veggies with hummus) and a 600 calorie meal for supper. You can swap out the shake at lunch and have it at supper and eat your meal at lunch but I never have enough time to do that. Lasal so happy to hear everything is great!!!

kathleen112 - Tuesday, 14 Feb
Hey, I commented awhile ago! :-( Hopeful, that's an incredible amount of weight loss! More than I'be been able to pull off in 6 weeks, but I'm very happy with my progress. Are you still doing the cleanse? Ben has been obsessed with his groin lately. Anytime I pull his diaper off he's scratching at the one side incessantly. He's starting to get a bad looking rash there. Guess I should call the doctor but have any of you experienced this??

lasal - Tuesday, 14 Feb
h hey ladies! How is everyone and their little one doing? I cannot believe how time flies! Ethan is running araound everywhere and he is climbing on everything! I have such a little monkey! He climbs on the couch by himself now and jumps up and down. He is so silly. He has at least 10 teeth now and he is saying a lot of words. The cutest is when he says thank you. Just the past 2 days we have tried something new. I usually carry him to the car in the mornings but I decided to let him walk and hold his hand. He felt very grown up and when we got to the car I clapped and cheered and he was so pleased with himself that he clapped as well! He is becoming more affectionate and now hugs me and kisses me. I love it! Well hope all is well with everyone!!

hopeful29 - Tuesday, 14 Feb
I would like to hear what you have to say Kash...just saying lol And I agree with you 100% So since Jan 23rd I have lost a total of 15 lbs so I am well on my way to get rid of this weight, I have a ways to go but things are looking up. Keira said 'love you' today, how perfect is that! Made my day!!!

kashsmommy - Monday, 13 Feb
Cupcake...I will refrain from saying what I would really like to say because this is a public forum, but you are gorgeous just the way you are and if he can't appreciate what you've put your bbody through to give him those 3 beautiful children then he doesn't deserve you!

hopeful29 - Sunday, 12 Feb
He said WHAT???????????????WTH???????

kathleen112 - Saturday, 11 Feb
Omg cupcake are fucking SERIOUS that he said that to you?!?!?!?!?! I could kill him. You're TINY!!!!! And even if you weren't you've born three children--HIS children-- and he has the balls to speak to you like that?!? He's lucky international travel is expensive or my foot would currently be stuck firmly up his ass!!!

cupcake83 - Saturday, 11 Feb
Hey laydeeez. Sorry I havent had time to post but i have been reading along! Hopeful that is just bollocks about your job! Can't believe u would still have to sell up and move etc! Terrible! Have u heard anything else from the ped? Hows the cleanse going? I'm interested in it!! Kash - poor little ham! No fun being poorly all the time, bless him. Kathleen - I hardly know what to write....OMG YAY BEN!!!!!!!!!!! Ol has been waiting for u Ben!! Now 4 steps in a row...bet he takes off any time now!! Ol is SLOWLY getting more confident, he's still only done 12 steps max i'd say but he can change direction and stand up from sitting not holding on to any thing! He'll only walk to me (small amount of mummy smugness here!) Thats really great about your continued weight loss. I myself am getting p*ed off with mine. I'm going and joining Slimming World next week with a friend. Karl and I had a huge argument and he called me fat. He said that he didn't 'sign up' to go out with someone my size. This was after the previous day of telling me not to eat some chocolates i had been given. Really pissed me off. The funny thing is I wasn't even that bothered, now i'm uber concious of it. I weigh 135 pounds ( i looked that up for u guys, didn't think you'd get stones!!) and before Ollie i prob weighed only maybe 5-6 pounds less. I'm gonna go to the gym and get my body back and stick two fingers in his face! I wonder how Ruby is?

kathleen112 - Thursday, 9 Feb
I give Ben a liquid vitamin that the pediatrician prescribed. I think it's a good thing to do but I really wouldn't worry too much Hopeful about her intake. Kids are very intuitive in that way--they know how much they need to eat. I bet she'll hit a growth spurt and will be eating you out of house and home soon enough...and then it'll be back to just grazing. Ben is up to FOUR steps in a row!! Progress baby! :-)

hopeful29 - Thursday, 9 Feb
sweet I'm picking some up this weekend for sure!

kashsmommy - Thursday, 9 Feb
They're Nemo gummies! It's says for 2 and up but his ped said to only give him one a day (the package calls for 2) and it would be perfect! I got them at Walmart for like $3.50!

hopeful29 - Thursday, 9 Feb
Keira is now starting to really refuse milk....she eats lots of yougurt and cheese so I hope she is getting enough calcium. I also hope it's just due to this whole teething phase cause she is still barely eating anything...I managed to get her to take 3 bites out of a banana and almost a whole scambled egg this morning but at daycare she is barely eating and supper she is not interested at all doesn't matter how soft it is. I always worry she isn't getting enough. Kash what are these gummy vitamins you have? Are they perscribed? The only vitamins I've found are for 6 and up. I'd love to get my hand on some of those you'll have to let me know the kind etc.

kashsmommy - Tuesday, 7 Feb
Yaaaaay Ben!!!! Hopeful...he is still in daycare! I know that's why he's been sick but I'm kinda glad because his immune system is hopefully growing! I give him gummy vitamins and have been giving him at least one citrus fruit a day to try to boost his vitamin c! I'm hoping it helps soon! I can't believe Keira is getting all these teeth!!!

kathleen112 - Tuesday, 7 Feb
I think it's funny that Keira was so late getting teeth but is quickly catching up to Ben. He's had four teeth now for what seems like forever. We *think* that he's getting four more teeth now but cannot be sure 'cause Ben is uber protective of his mouth and he won't let me look or feel! It's so funny. Even when I try to trick him by asking him to say ahh he somehow manages to cover up his teeth with his lips. Occasionally I can get a glimpse while he's eating but not a really good one. Funny how they all have their little quirks! Best of luck with the cleanse Hopeful! Offically I'm down 10.6 lbs since starting WW 5 weeks ago which is great, the only frustrating thing is that when I weigh myself at home I've been down as much as 12-13 lbs. I know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday but it's hard not to. I keep telling myself it doesn't matter how quickly or slowly the weight comes off because I'm changing my habits for good, not just for the short term, and lasting change takes time. The nice thing is is that because the baby weight is basically gone I'm already fitting into so much more in my closet so it's kind of like instant gratification! But I'm sticking with my goal of losing at least 20 more lbs. Kash--sorry Cole is sick, unfortunately I think Ben is right behind him. He's been coughing all day and felt warm when I just put him down though he's not running a temp. Our poor little boys. :-(

hopeful29 - Tuesday, 7 Feb
So Keira has 3 teeth now and she is still teething bad so I think #4 is on its way. She is barely eating and VERY cranky for the past 2 days...Kash sry to hear Cole isn't getting a break from being sick, poor little guy is he still going to daycare? Keira was sick for like 6 months straight when she started going to daycare, think it just took her awhile to build up an immune system. So I'm on day 2 of my cleanse so far so good. I had to weigh in prior and I weigh in again on Sunday so hopefully I'll be down some weight!!

hopeful29 - Tuesday, 7 Feb
Yahoo BEN!!!! It def counts girl!!!

kathleen112 - Monday, 6 Feb
Drum roll please...BEN TOOK A STEP!!! It's a freaking miracle lol. And when I say A step I do mean a single step but he did it two separate times today so I'm counting it!! So proud of my little man. Cupcake, it's time to tell Ollie he can start walking again, his bff Ben is ready! :-)

hopeful29 - Monday, 6 Feb
She's not going to be in till Wed now...so I explained everything to her secretary so I expect a call hopefully no later then thursday.

kathleen112 - Monday, 6 Feb
Hopeful--what did the ped say?

hopeful29 - Sunday, 5 Feb
thanks Kash, it means a lot to have your support. And yes I'm in Canada! I'm not sure about where doctors come up with these percentiles anyways...nobody has ever told me where Keira stands either. Ah well they all have growth spurts at different times!

kashsmommy - Sunday, 5 Feb
Oh and I guess Cole isn't so small...not much of a difference from him to everyone else! That's why I don't even understand why his ped says he's 10th percentile for weight and 25th for height. Not sure that makes much sense.

kashsmommy - Sunday, 5 Feb
Omg hopeful! That is ridiculous!!! They shouldn't be able to keep you of you have put in your release!!! Hopefully the doctor comes through!!! Sorry for all the !!!, I'm just a little outraged by this! You're in Canada right?

hopeful29 - Sunday, 5 Feb
So as far as posting if I can get a letter from the ped saying that its in Keiras best interest to stay here for health care with her eyes and heart murmur I won't be posted. So I have to call tomorrow to see if she'll write the letter. If not then March 30th I have to be in my new location. Try to sell the house with 2 dogs a baby and work full time....So even with my release in if this doesn't pan out they can still keep me for 6 months since I'm on contract therefore they will send me there regardless. I'm so pissed at the army right now. Hopefully the Doc can come through for me. Fingers crossed

hopeful29 - Sunday, 5 Feb
everybody says she is so short but she just looks short cause she has short legs. People are always surprised to see her around other kids her age cause she is roughly the same height. She just has a longer torso! She wears 18 months clothes or 18-24 depending.
