22 months old You already know how important playtime is to your developing toddler. Playtime is a special time for you and your child to enjoy each other and show love for one another. Play is how your child learns the best and he learns by watching you. Through play, children learn about their world. They learn how things work and they learn how to use their body to make things work. Children learn about the way items feel, fit, stack, look, fall and move. Playing games with your child will encourage them to share and take turns. You should encourage your child to play and set things up to make playtime easy for your toddler. Keep a container of toys in various rooms of the house so that he can play near you. If his toys will be in his room, place toys on low shelves or open containers or toy boxes so that he can easily find what he would like to play with. Encourage a variety of types of play and change his toys out perioically to avoid boredom.

Continue teaching your child about words, but begin putting words into action. Be descriptive. Talk to your toddler while you drive about fast cars or noisy trains. While you are cooking, explain that the stove is hot or the bacon makesa sizz;ing sound when it cooks. This will develop your toddler's vocabulary and teach him about different objects.

At this point, your toddler has most, but not all, of her teeth. Because she doesn't have all of her teeth, be cautious about foods that could potentially choke her. Choking on food is a real danger for children this age and a real scare for parents and caregivers. Foods that children most often choke on are: hot dogs, grapes, candies, nuts, popcorn and lollipop. Other than the grapes and nuts, none of these foods are nutritious. Hot dogs and grapes should be cut into small, bite size pieces-quartered is the best. Never cut them into full circles because the pieces can get stuck in your toddler's throat.

Children respond well to routines. Establish a feasible schedule and routine that you and your child can both stick to. Ding things in the same routine each day will give your child a sense of security and she will learn and anticipate what comes `next`. Plan to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks at the same time each day. Quiet time, naptime and bedtime should also be at the same time each day. Until your toddler adapts to the schedule, remind him what comes next. You can also include other routines such as: getting a bath and getting dressed after breakfast each day, outside time, brushing teeth after breakfast and before bed and other routines that are important in your family.

thanks for the meal ideas - i think i am going to make a monthly calendar with a different meal each day then just start over the next month! less to think about each day! Can't believe it's just about October already...I guess come the new year we'll find out if Hubby is out of his job or not...he works for a company that processes loads for harley (we live in York) - I really hope it doesn't close I can't imagine what the economy will be like around here if Harley leaves! We have considered just picking up and moving to another state where land is cheap and buy a few acres and just have a farm...but I guess we would have to pay for the land first wouldnt we? LOL dilemmas dilemmas...

joeyandzacksmommy2007 - Tuesday, 22 Sep
groments are those tubes..yeah he had two sets put in but the second set has fallen out already

joeyandzacksmommy2007 - Tuesday, 22 Sep
BEK poor dylan ouch...but i am sure katy means well just not realize yet that she is causing pain..so i am gonna ask who all here believes in that terrible two crap..cuz i do not think behavior comes in ages...zack has his little attitude and has had it for awhile but joey has never been like this. and zack is not two yet.....so yesterday joey woke up with his asthma acting up and well it resolved on its own by the night time then today he woke up with a slight cough and when he was running at the bus stop all u could hear was the wheezing and struggling so i made him calm down and he did better. i hope he is not gonna get sick now. the neighbors kid has strep throat and he sits on teh bus with him. you know how the cross keeps the cvampires and devils away what keeps teh illnesses away please let me know so i can hang it outside my door.....anyway hope you all are having a great day/night or morning whereever you may be..oh and Zack slept all night he seems to be alot better except fo rthat ear....

Bek 30 - Monday, 21 Sep
Looks as though a few of us accomplished a few things today...yay for us. I just spring cleaned my bedroom... Dylan and Katy trashed it, then tackled my bathroom..although I always keep my toilet clean, I only clean my bathroom every few weeks when I have the time..well today I looked at the window and their was mildew on it..so I bleached everything from top to bottom, it is now sparking clean...hehehe, I have run out of time to do the rest of the house, so Thursday when Katy is at day care I will spring clean my lounge room, kitchen and Dylan's room (he will be back at school by then, so more shit to go in the bin..lol).~~~~~ Dylan has had the past 2 days off of school, on Saturday when his dad took him to motox he peed 3 times in 10mins... then Sunday Katy went up to him in a mood and cause she is at that height, bit him on his penis..ouch!!!! Then Monday he got up and it hurt his tummy when he went to the toilet..so today he had a urine test and the doc believes he now has an infection...poor little man takes so much shit from his sister when she hits a tantrum, but he still never goes off at her, raises his voice nor gets the shits with her...If I was him I probably would have punched my sister if she was so nasty to me..lol...ohh well least I know the liklihood of him beating on a girl is zero to none.

Bri - Monday, 21 Sep
I feel good. Even though I'm exhausted and ready for bed I accomplished something that I've been nagging Joe to do. HAHA! I cleaned out his walk in closet. This is HUGE!!! There are books, computer shit, trash, boxes, pictures and a bunch of other random things in there. We couldn't even open the closet door all the way. It was insane. There were boxes spilling out into the room. So, I organized and compiled boxes. I didn't throw anything out but I could have. Now everything is in boxes and neatly stacked at the end of the closet. I got our window fans and other boxes into the closet as well. Plus, we use a shop vac for the chinchillas. I was able to get that inside so it wasn't just sitting in the den. This room looks HUGE now that there is just a book shelf, the chins and a desk in here. HAHA! I'm sure Joe won't be pleased but I've given him how many months? Literally we just moved in in March and you'd think it would have been cleaned by now. Well, now he can sort through things. I'm hoping that by me getting rid of a bunch of books and clothes that it'll modivate him to throw out (sell) some books. I mean there's comic books and legos in there too. Ok, I'm glad we've been taking these damn legos everywhere for the past ten years because they are so expensive and Kekoa will eventually like them (so will his brother) but really. He could have stored them at his parents for the past ten years instead of here. I have barbies, care bears, my little ponies and cabbage patch dolls at my moms. Granted now all the grandchildren play with them but hey at least they aren't with me.

3rdtimer - Monday, 21 Sep
Yeah Double I think your last doc had her chance... you told her how you felt and she still tried to pressure you to do things you were not comfortable with. Sorry she's putting the guilt trip on you now! Anyway if she wasn't going to be there for the actual delivery, you're better off going elsewhere regardless. My doc would not book me in if my due date fell in his holidays (he has them planned well in advance). As it happened he was not there for Clem's delivery because he came early but I had met the other doc from his practice 'just in case'. ****** Tammy that's great that Zack is improving. If it makes you feel any better, Clem had pus coming out of his ear for about two weeks recently (until I finally thought this is ridiculous and got him some antibiotics). Zack has grommets doesn't he? Jasper had them and used to get the pus coming out quite often. Better out than in I reckon! Imagine if it was all just sitting in there without a way out. Clem gets grommets next week. Anyway I hope Zack perks up more and more. He looked so sad and sweet in the photos on FB. Like he was trying to have fun in some pics but he just felt crappy. Poor bubba.

luvbeingamom - Monday, 21 Sep
Double, i agree with your hubby and Bri. You did the right thing. If you weren't comfortable when you leave the appts, then you don't need to deal with her. Hopefully you love this new doc and she will listen to you.

Bri - Monday, 21 Sep
doublemama - I still think you made the right decision. Sorry, she's hurt, maybe next time she'll learn to be nicer during appointments...or not.

doublemama - Monday, 21 Sep
my doc called me n left me a voicemail saying shes hurt i left...she was being massively nice. of course the pushover that i am felt guilty about that until hubby reminded me i came back hurt by the way she was talking to me at the appointments.

luvbeingamom - Monday, 21 Sep
Tammy i am so happy to hear that you all are home and Zack is doing better. ***** Shelly, soda is the first thing that should go, i wouldn't buy it. For caffeine stick to coffee and teas. I drink 2 cups of 1/2 caf coffee a day and then a large McD's unsweet tea. Then water the rest of the day. For food, stick to high fiber, low cal foods. For what has been working is a high fiber cereal (fiber one is good) for breakfast. A activia low fat/fat free yogurt for snack, an open face sandwich for lunch (with double fiber bread), one slice only. Afternoon snack is a handful of grapes and then dinner is meat (lean) with a veggie. Some of the easy ones are baked chicken with just a few spices on top (you can also use Italian dressing, tomato sauce or a wine sauce) and then for veggies, stick with steamed broccoli, green beans, carrots, cauliflower, and squash. Peas and corn are starches and though sometimes they are good, not all the time. Oh and i have popcorn and weight watchers ice cream sandwiches for evening snacks.

doublemama - Monday, 21 Sep
shelly, baked chicken is great..i just get chicken halves with the bone and skin n all, pour some pasta sauce, salt n some dried rosemary (takes about 2 min) then put it in the oven 375 for about 45 min covered, then 10 min uncovered so the skin gets crispy. it comes out tender enough for my daughter to eat as well, and pretty healthy provided u dont eat the skin. we also have sphaghetti n meat sauce, baked fish n veggies. just basically try to up your protein content cause thats what will keep u full but try n make it come from lean sources like chicken, lean ground beef, etc. and as bri said, dont let soda's, even juice in the house (maybe just some juice for the kids) if i really want soda ill just get sparkling water and add a lil bit of 100% juice with no sugar added to it. pb and j is also great as itll keep you fuller longer.

joeyandzacksmommy2007 - Monday, 21 Sep
i am a soda drinker myself and hate coffee unless its DD french vanilla iced with extra cream and extra sugar..but since there is not a dunkin donuts around for 35 miles i stay away from those...i am not the healthiest eater myself but i do make sure the kids eat healthy...

Bri - Monday, 21 Sep
Tammy, that's great. I'm so happy that a good nights rest is what is needed. And, to just lay around in the house is perfect. Shelly, I don't know what to tell you. I'm not a coffee drinker but I'll definately drink soda if it's in the house. I get lattes every once in a while but I don't need or crave them. Maybe just not buy the soda in the house and don't take cash with you if you are out and about. I know if I have cash on me it gets spent. Especially when I was working because we had vending machines. I just wouldn't bring money with me and so I couldn't buy soda or candy. I just drank water. But now that I'm home home I drink juice and soda all day. It sucks. I need to drink more water but I just don't feel like it.

shelly32 - Monday, 21 Sep
OK so I need some support to get control over my eating habits and make some changes! I used to eat pretty good and exercised a lot but now with two kids i'm finding it all too easy to stop for a coffee each morning and drinking a soda a day to stay awake...hubby works 3rd shift so i pretty much have the kids alone 24/7 and when they wake up at night it's not like we can take turns...i hate soda but it's the only thing that gets me through the day. anyhow so i would like to break some bad habits and am looking to lose about 20lbs. anyone care to share some healthy (not too complicated) meals that their families enjoy?

shelly32 - Monday, 21 Sep
J&Z - glad to hear you are home and things are slowly getting better - i was thinking about you guys all weekend! I've become such a 'nervous nellie' since i've had kids and all that had happened to my sister...anytime they even seem a little out of sorts i can't help thinking in my head what if something bad comes of it? (we dont run to the doctor constantly and i dont worry them - it just runs across my mind constantly). It's been 6 months since my sister passed and we are now finding out it may be due to the hospital making mistakes...i guess they are doing an investigation to see what really happened since her autopsy wasn't conclusive in itself...ugh i just can't imagine having to go through that all over again - my MIL just found out that her father who passed away in a hospital a year ago that someone 'Tripped' over the cord that was keeping his heart pumping and killed him!

joeyandzacksmommy2007 - Monday, 21 Sep
hey girls...happy to report that zack is somewhat better today..he is still congested and his ear is draining puss still draining bad out of his ear..he is laying around but that is to be excpected..we have an ear appointment today and his follow up wednesday.......

3rdtimer - Monday, 21 Sep
Ah Bek that seems like a brilliant idea for your nephew. If that doesn't sort him out nothing will. Must be a relief for you right now :-)

Bek 30 - Monday, 21 Sep
J&Z: Glad ure home and Zach is doing better.~~~~~~Ok update on my troubled ass of a nephew. All avenues have been exhausted, been kicked out of school, no one wants to give him a job, ran away from home the other night so his parents locked the doors on him, nan and pop gave him a roof for the night, and the little ass stole our money!!!! So now my sister has found this place in the outback of Queensland that takes on troubled teens, gives them a job as a Jackaroo..teaches them disipline etc at the same time as earning a living..they r out in the middle of bum f%^k, on thousands of acres, with nowhere to run. He will earn $100 day but needs to pay for his accomadation and food out of that, their r no shops for hundreds and hundreds of miles..so he gonna have to give up smoking..lol. He will fly into Brisbane, then a chartered plane to the outback..stay in a hotel for the night, then the mailman will drive him 6 hours to the place he gotta go to...he is not to leave the place for 12months even for xmas, he is only allowed back by the employers rules to go for his surgery, so hopefully he will come back a decent young man, thats if he comes back at all, he may like it so much that he may decided to get another job on another station elsewhere...my mum and dad r blabbering messes, crying and all upset..won't talk to anyone and basically got the shits..Dylan is upset, but everyone else is cheering..hahaha. Life may go back to normal and we may even start saving money again, something that we haven't been able to do seen as though stealing $100 at a time then telling us we lost it that he never touched it....Mmmm, Grrr. Xmas is gonna be a happy occasion again....anyway his uncles live in Queensland, so if their is any trouble they can get to him...mum and dad need to butt out!!!!

3rdtimer - Sunday, 20 Sep
YAY that you're home J&Z, I hope you all get some rest and decent food. I bet Joey was worried about his brother, too. Will you be getting Zack the seasonal flu vaccination now, and will there be a swine flu vacc available soon? In Australia they are saying a swine flu vaccination for adults will be available at the end of this month, I think. **** Anyway, Monday... ugh. Such a rush of a morning in our house since we not only have to get us all off to work/school/childcare but also have to leave the house totally neat for the cleaners. Of course I'm very glad to have the cleaners now but it makes for a frantic morning! At lunchtime I had to go and renew my passport. I hate those photos! I look pretty much identical to my photo from 10 years ago: a grumpy square-shape. They make everyone look like a criminal. Oh well maybe at least in comparison I will be a pleasant surprise in real life haha!

Bri - Sunday, 20 Sep
Tammy, I'm glad you are home and resting. I'm so happy he's getting better. I was really worried about him for a while there. It looks like he still has a bit to go but at least they released him. Get some rest tonight and eat something healthy....maybe a chocolate chip cookie and ice cream. HAHA!

joeyandzacksmommy2007 - Sunday, 20 Sep
hi everyone glad to say we are home. it feels so good let me tell you...poor joey started crying when he saw me...Anyway we left on 4 medicines and albuterol treatments..the verdict was Influenza A, severe dehydration, double ear infections, bronchitis and complications to the diabetes insipidus...we have to go back in 3 days for his check up/follow up. it was a rough 2 first days but as he started getting better the days got better. as for the food situation it was gross with a capital G...last night i got some sleep i fell asleep with a major migrane...zack actually slept in teh crib..we laid down about 930 i believe and then zack woke up at 130am after his breathing treatment ran around for an hour then fell asleep from 230 am till 10am so i slept till like 9am...i still had a headache but not as bad as it was. anyway all is good now..thank you LUV so much for keeping everyone updated and thank you everyone for your kind words it was heartfelt and very nice to read them. u are truly the best friends a girl can have even though we have never met.....xxoxoxoxoxo luv you all

luvbeingamom - Sunday, 20 Sep
Oh i hope so!

Bri - Sunday, 20 Sep
I got the text too. I'm so happy they're heading home. That poor little man. Hopefully now that they are home he'll be able to get a good nights rest...Mommy too.

luvbeingamom - Sunday, 20 Sep
Good Evening ladies. Sorry, i haven't had a chance to talk to Tammy, but she sent me a message about an hour ago saying they were on their way home. So YEAH! **** I spent today at a football game! yea we won! haha. It doesn't usually happen. But it was a lot of fun, but i fear i didn't put on enough sunscreen b/c i chest and shoulders seem to be a bit to pink. :-) How was everyone elses weekend?

lyfe - Sunday, 20 Sep
