22 months old You already know how important playtime is to your developing toddler. Playtime is a special time for you and your child to enjoy each other and show love for one another. Play is how your child learns the best and he learns by watching you. Through play, children learn about their world. They learn how things work and they learn how to use their body to make things work. Children learn about the way items feel, fit, stack, look, fall and move. Playing games with your child will encourage them to share and take turns. You should encourage your child to play and set things up to make playtime easy for your toddler. Keep a container of toys in various rooms of the house so that he can play near you. If his toys will be in his room, place toys on low shelves or open containers or toy boxes so that he can easily find what he would like to play with. Encourage a variety of types of play and change his toys out perioically to avoid boredom.

Continue teaching your child about words, but begin putting words into action. Be descriptive. Talk to your toddler while you drive about fast cars or noisy trains. While you are cooking, explain that the stove is hot or the bacon makesa sizz;ing sound when it cooks. This will develop your toddler's vocabulary and teach him about different objects.

At this point, your toddler has most, but not all, of her teeth. Because she doesn't have all of her teeth, be cautious about foods that could potentially choke her. Choking on food is a real danger for children this age and a real scare for parents and caregivers. Foods that children most often choke on are: hot dogs, grapes, candies, nuts, popcorn and lollipop. Other than the grapes and nuts, none of these foods are nutritious. Hot dogs and grapes should be cut into small, bite size pieces-quartered is the best. Never cut them into full circles because the pieces can get stuck in your toddler's throat.

Children respond well to routines. Establish a feasible schedule and routine that you and your child can both stick to. Ding things in the same routine each day will give your child a sense of security and she will learn and anticipate what comes `next`. Plan to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks at the same time each day. Quiet time, naptime and bedtime should also be at the same time each day. Until your toddler adapts to the schedule, remind him what comes next. You can also include other routines such as: getting a bath and getting dressed after breakfast each day, outside time, brushing teeth after breakfast and before bed and other routines that are important in your family.

Bek 30 - Sunday, 20 Sep
Lol, I am glad that I amused you girls...hahaha. Let me just clarify this is the most timid, docile bull you could ever come across... I bought him for Dylan when the bull was just 2 days old, and we bottle fed him for several months so he is so used to human contact...Katy goes up and plays with him and even rides him... but yesterday I was home alone, and the silly thing decided he wanted to be in the next paddock, so he went to go over the top of the fence and got his left leg stuck over the top of the fence, but his right leg ended up with the bottom strand wrapped around his hock, and the dog mesh wrapped around it also, so everytime he tried to move foreward the wire would tighten around his foot...so I bolt cutted the fence off his leg...then I had to lift his right leg back at the same time as pushing him back...damn it was hard pushing a 600kg bull...hahah, thankgod he is as dumb as shit, other wise I would have had to shoot him...my stupid computer blew up today ( sob sob), I am so lost without it, so now I am stuck on Dylan's super slow one..but atleast it is a computer and I finally got all my bills paid.~~~~~ Luv, have u heard anymore on Zach?

3rdtimer - Saturday, 19 Sep
Ha ha double I would like to hear the tutu story when you have a minute, sounds interesting! And yes imagining Bek dealing with a bull stuck in a fence is scary and amusing! Luv thank you for all the Zack updates. Sounds like the poor bub has a bunch of infections going on at once so hospital is probably the best place for him, for now. Let's just hope he doesn't pick anything else up while he's there. ***** Robin good to hear from you, would love some Hunter updates too :) ****** Lyfe like Bri said there's not always a fever with ear infections. My Clem is about to get grommets put in his ears because his left one kept bursting with infection/pressure but he has never had a temperature specifically related to it. I feel bad when it happens because I don't know what the problem is until it bursts, because he has no fever and doesn't particularly pull at his ears or anything. As far as I understand the infection itself is not a huge problem in that case (it's just like having an ongoing snotty nose from a cold) but the pressure causes pain and the fluid sitting in the ears reduces hearing which is critical for language development at this age. Does that make sense? In any case I reckon it would be worth getting your little one's ears looked at.

doublemama - Saturday, 19 Sep
hehe luv i think i had the same reaction. i had a whole list of predicaments i ran into today that i came on here to vent about, but certainly none come as close to interesting as handling a bull in a fence. good job taking that on bek :) encountering a bull, weather it involved a fence or not, would have probably just sent me running in the other direction. i admire people that can take on the outdoors. anyway as for my day, suffice it to say it was a series of frustrating events one after another. it sounds silly now but my advice is never buy one of those damn ballerina tutu's for your daughter while your pregnant. it will cause for a sh*tty day.

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
Bek - There are so many things i read here that just make me smile and wonder. In all those times, i never thought i would here about your bull and fense. I was laughing outloud thinking of this situation. I could just picture me staring at the bull, the fence, the bull and back to the fence goign... well WTF do i do now! haha. Sorry about the fence and the bull. Hope the bull is ok. It just made me smile thinking of that situation. Good luck on mending the fence.

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
Just got a text from Tammy. Zack has Broncitis (sp?) and had to have a chest xray. They are doing 'ok'. Zack was sleeping and tammy has a headache and is about to try to sleep. She said she will update me more later. I sent the well wishes and she said 'thank you'.

Bek 30 - Saturday, 19 Sep
lyfe: I would get his ears looked at to b on the safe side, Katy always plays with her ears and when I wash her hair she turns into a sobbering mess holding her ears, I take her to have them checked out, but the dr's always say she is fine..but I am always wondering....I don't know what motrin is..so I can't say!, but here in Australia we have infants panadol and childrens panadol, so it is probably along the same lines...our pharmasist says u can u go up, but give them a bit less then what is marked on the bottle.~~~~Katy is 23months today...omg time flies!!!~~~~~~Glad to hear that Zach is feeling a bit better, give them our love please luv. Ohh well I better go repair the fence that I had to cut down....my stupid bull decided he would go thru it and almost cut his tendons in his front foot, I had no choice but to bolt cut the fence down and hubby is less then impressed, but how is 1 woman supposed to get a heavy BULL out of a jam?...

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
Bri, i feel the same way. I just cry for that poor little guy, and his family. I just hope he feels better soon. She has sent me a couple photos, he looks much better now then he did when he got to the hospital. I just can't imagine. **** Lyfe - I too feel horrible that nobody answers. Like Double said, I would go by weight. With my older son we were using kids meds before he was 18 months b/c he was already 30lbs at a year old. However, Jake is MUCH smaller and is not even 26lbs yet so i will hold off on giving him kids meds for a while now. As for the infection, unless it is bothering him. I wouldn't say let it go. Also, they don't need a fever to have an infection. **** CNC - I thought about those train tables, but i don't think i will get one. I don't have a ton of space, and their play room is my TV room/Den so i want to be able to put thins away. But i will see, b/c i am sure both my kids would love it.

doublemama - Saturday, 19 Sep
lyfe, depends more on your child's weight than his age. look on the weight range for the dosage and use the one that suits him best. my daughter is almost two however she is only 23 lb so we will be sticking to the infant kind for a while it seems.

Bri - Saturday, 19 Sep
Luv, I can't stop thinking of Zack. That poor little guy. I just tear up everytime something else happens to him. Plus, his poor brother has to deal with this too. Thanks for keeping up updated. I'll send her another text here shortly.

CNCMOM - For Kekoa's birthday we were thinking of getting him a big wheel or trike. Probably a big wheel. For Christmas I'll probably get him a work bench and some smaller toys. I'll be due to give birth around that time so I want it to be special for him but not too much money.

lyfe - Sorry no one ever writes back. I feel awful. We do tend to write when we can. I haven't start children's yet although my husband had bought some a while back because he said he couldn't find the other stuff. As for ear infections, Kekoa always gets one when he has a cold. He has never had a fever with an infection. In his first year of life he had 9 infections and no fever. It seemed like every time we went to the doctor for something else he had one. Also, not all infections need to be treated. We only treated the really bad ones. The others cleared up on their own.

lyfe - Saturday, 19 Sep
HI EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!! I REALLY DONT POST MUCH OF ANYTHING B/C WHEN EVER I DO...I DONT EVER GET MUCH OF A RESPONSE..MAYBE B/C ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT REALLY KNOW ME BUT I HAVE 22MONTH OLD SON!!!! I WANTED TO KNOW IF EVERYONE HAS MOVED TO CHILDRENS TYLENOL AND MOTRIN INSTEAD OF 'INFANTS'.....I KNOW THE BOTTLE SAYS 2-11 YEARS OLD BUT IS IT TO EARLY FOR ME TO MOVE?????? PLUS I NOTICED MY SON PLAYING IN HIS EARS LATELY LIKE HE'S COMING DOWN WITH AN EAR INFECTION BUT HE HAS NO FEVER...HE DOES HAVE A LIL COLD THO!!!! SOME FOLKS SAY WELL IF HE'S NOT RUNNING A FEVER THAN HE DOESN'T HAVE A EAR INFECTION...HE DONT SEEM TO BE IN PAIN(EAR) SO IM CONFUSED NO FEVER????

CNCMOM - Saturday, 19 Sep
LUV-I was thinking along the lines of trains also. I really like those train tables, they are expensive but I think my 5 year old would play with it too.

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
Robin - i am sorry, i didn't answer your question. It is flu type A i think, but they don't test for the swine flu unless he was intensive care b/c it is a very expensive test and is treated the same way they treat the flu. He is getting antibiotics, tamaflu (sp?), iv fluids and something else, but i can't remember.

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
CNCMom - For birthday/xmas this year, i think i will be getting some train stuff. He seems really into trains now and my older son never was, so we don't really have much. I am getting my older son some legos and hotwheels tracks and cars. Both will also be getting some books, puzzles and cloths.

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
Robin i have been thinking of you and hunter lately too. I hope all is good for you. I read on facebook about a playgroup? Is he doing well? How is his social interactions going?

luvbeingamom - Saturday, 19 Sep
I just spoke to her via text again. She said his numbers are better. But they will be in the hospital for 3 more days. (so monday i think). They are also now treating him for RSV, he has puss coming out of his ears (ear infection), he is still fighting a fever and being fed IV fluids. She said for now he is sleeping but they had a rough night. They slept on and off but the nurses kept coming in and waking them. She is eating now and had some hospital food, but apparently most of it is pretty nasty. Her hubby is bringing her some food in a little while and tomorrow her SIL is coming to stay with Zack for a couple hours so she can go home to be with Joey and Ashley for a while. So that will hopefully give her some down time. I just keep praying for them. I wish there was more we/I could do.

CNCMOM - Saturday, 19 Sep
Hi Ladies! I was wondering if you could give me ideas for Birthday and Christmas presents for my son. We have so many toys as I have an older son so I'm looking to see what others who have a child this age are going to buy. Thanks!

doublemama - Friday, 18 Sep
robing! ive been thinking of u...well more so hunter..i keep seeing ads for the thomas movie or dvd cant remember which and everytime i think of him, thats what he loves to watch right? how are yall doing :)

RobinG - Friday, 18 Sep
TX for the update Luv!! Give her my prayers and hugs ~ has there been an update on if it is same as swine? Gosh I feel so heart sick for her and all he has had to endure :( ((hugs))

Bri - Friday, 18 Sep
Poor Tammy! She needs sleep AND food. They fed us in the hospital too??? I wonder why they aren't bringing her food. Also, the Children's Hospital where Kekoa was at had nurses who would sit with Kekoa if we needed to leave for anything. Of course I didn't but I could have. I feel for the both of them. At least he's getting better. I'm glad they are at the hospital though. At least we know he's getting fluids, even if it's through the IV. He was in Kekoa's and my night night prayers tonight and will continue to be until he's well.

luvbeingamom - Friday, 18 Sep
I just got off the phone with J&Z. Zack is a bit more alert. Spent a few hours playing. She is waiting for the blood results for his new numbers. She still hasn't slept much. I think she said about 30 minutes all day. She said she will text me with the numbers when she gets them. If i am awake i will post them for you all, but if not, i will let you all know tomorrow.

luvbeingamom - Friday, 18 Sep
i am going to try to call her again shortly. Bri that is how it was with Jake too. The hospital near me actual gives the parent a full bed to sleep in. so when i was in, jake wouldn't ever leave my side. He slept in my arms almost the whole time we were in the hospital. What Tammy was saying is they didn't want her sleeping b/c of a fear of falling out of the bed. I don't know, with all that is going on with him, i would tell the nurse where to shove it, and again, as long as he is still fully connected, i would try to catch a few minutes of sleep when i could. When i spoke with her this morning, in 24 hours she had only eaten an english muffin and the gross home fries that the hospital served her for breakfast. I will update again after i can speak with her.

Bri - Friday, 18 Sep
You know when Kekoa was in the hospital a month ago he wouldn't go anywhere near the crib. I pushed the crib out of the way and laid him down between Joe and I on the cot. We had to push it to where the crib was because of the monitor cords wouldn't go very far. I had to sign a waver which was fine with me. He was still on the monitors but actually sleeping. They knew I was pissed just being there and pregnant so they really didn't care either. I know Zack is more serious but you'd think they would be fine as long as he is still on the monitors?

3rdtimer - Friday, 18 Sep
Luv - thanks for the update on Zack, poor little man. It's such a complex problem he has isn't it. If only they could get to the bottom of why it's happening in the first place. Yeah I think that's rubbish about not being able to sleep in the bed with him, are they worried she'll squash the IV line or something? ***** Bita yes I wouldn't want to go that far overdue either, you poor thing! I bet you were trying every 'natural' trick in the book to get labour to start! I was induced with my first, two days early, but only needed my waters broken. It was because I had low fluid. Even then it came on fast. I think I was almost ready to go anyway.

doublemama - Friday, 18 Sep
and luv, that sounds serious, his blood pressure is higher than mine...do u think its gonna be just a cpl days stay? i know hospitals arent easy places to be especially for kids but it almost sounds like constant monitoring would be best, and would take a load off of tammy. thanks for the updates

doublemama - Friday, 18 Sep
bita im with u...i would not go mroe than 2 days passed my due date and at that point id request an induction...my whole deal was i want things more patient centered and on my terms, she was gonna strip my membranes, induce me, and convince me to take an epidural...all without me requesting it!...had i requested it, which might have been likely, i would have been fine..but i dont pay someone to tell me what to do nor do i take crap from people haha.
