Surely, you have heard of the `Terrible Two's`. Two year olds can be trying and taxing, but they can also be exciting and loads of fun! Rather than looking at your two year old as `terrible`, try to see him as `terrific`-even on trying days! Both you and your child have come along way in just two short years! Look at how much you have taught your little one. He sure has learned a lot! Over the next year, you are going to need patience, awareness, firmness, love, humor and wonder. Parents need patience to deal with the many mood swings of a two year old, awareness to ensure that his surroundings are safe, firmness to make sure your child listens and follows directions and humor to laugh at yourself and your child. Love should be never ending and you should show your child love daily.
Immunizations should all be caught up at this point, at least for a few years. Regular check-ups with the doctor are important to keep your child healthy. Your pediatrician can often find problems before they become serious through well visits. Keep your child's health record in a safe spot so that it is easily accessible for day-care and schools.
Thumb sucking is a common behavior of children through age six. Thumb sucking is one way that your child has to soothe himself and he finds security in his thumb. As long as you do not pressure your child to stop, he will probably stop by himself. Parents are often worried about dental problems from thumb sucking. You do not need to worry about dental problems until the permanent teeth erupt, around five or six years old.
If your child has not yet shown an interest in toilet training, he probably will very soon. Providing a child-sized potty on the floor will give your child a start and make it easier for them to get started. Remember that toilet training takes time, patience and praise. Do not scold or punish for accidents. They happen. The majority of children will stop dirtying before they stop wetting. It is not uncommon for children to be daytime toilet trained for a while before becoming nigh time toilet trained. Occasionally, it may seem that your trained child has regressed. This is common when changes take place in the child's life-a new baby, a family move, visits from family, etc. Do not start toilet training until your child shows signs that he is ready. The process will go smoother for everyone involved!
Interact with your child as much as possible. Take every opportunity that you can to teach your child about a variety of things. Be a teacher for child-you will be amazed how quickly children pick up on new skills. Read to your child often and talk about the images on each page. Most importantly, take time to have fun with your energetic two year old!

Oh so tired today poor zac was up last night for over hour with real bad tummy pains and then was up again at 4 with them. Poor kiddo, I kept him home today to get his rest and hope they don't come back.Englishmama(Rubes) -

Lilia just said to me 'i'm not funny, mummy'. What was I supposed to say to that? Lol. All I could say was 'sometimes you are' haha I took Arun out in his sling and nearly broke my back. Only went downstairs to the offlicence to top up electricity lol was like a 5 min outting in all. I'm severely out of shape, I reckon. He's gotta weigh about 13lb now which in all honesty really isn't THAT heavy so why I couldn't carry him for long i'll never know! Lolmybabysuprise -

Rubes, that is soo funny. mason loves to flush too. I was told they only have to combined words once to be on target, they don't have to do it regularly. mason says.'I don't want' when he is sick and doesn't want to be put down and when dr is going to give him a shot. otherwise his only combo is usually 'pop please'Englishmama(Rubes) -

Lilia speaks too much. Literally doesn't stop. I was and still am the same lol all day long it's 'mummy, I fall down' or 'i running' or 'i funny' or 'where baby brudder' or 'where baby brudder bottle (dummy)' or 'where (insert name) gawn' or 'i cleaning mummy' (she cleans the most obscure places). Sometimes during a brief respite from the crying I just wanna sit in silence. During these times lilia decides to be more loud lol also if uk has a hosepipe ban this summer, blame lilia. Girl's been flushing the loo all day. Hope my water rate isn't too high lolSuperMomTo3 -

Babies r us discontinued Original Duckie so I never managed to replace him but she did have a Duckie Number Two who's been with her since she was a few months old, they've been inseparable since Original Duckie got stolen off the bus! Lol at kayla putting toys to bed. Lilia does that. Today she put duckie in the baby's swing and put the baby's hat on him and pushed him in the swing. Was hilarious haha lilia loves her toys. Part of our bedtime routine is telling them all goodnight. Unfortunately she has like 20 bed toys so it goes on a while haha lilmum2002 -

LOL Rubes she still has that duckie eh? Kayla has taken no soother no blankie nothing like that, she's finally starting to play with her dolls and it is SOO cute. She constantly puts them to bed and then tells us Shhhhhh the only thing she is truly obsessed with is a-olo aka Elmo Englishmama(Rubes) -

Finally managed to log back in lol ok got my social services report today and they said the case is closed and no more involvement. Yay! Lilia's not had a dummy since 9 months old but as Arun gets one to stop the all day crying she decided she wanted it and Wouldn't give it back til I said Arun wouldn't give back duckie til she gave back dummy. She agreed to the exchange. Phew. The crying has stopped lollilmum2002 -

Kayla will only sit on her potty when I'm in the bathroom and she will only have the lid closed and a diaper on. I know she's not quite ready yet but when she is I know it'll be quite easy. I waited until Tyler was ready and it was literally a week to train him for both day and night, but I think it'll take longer for Kayla but not by much. rls- I♥mythreebabies -

Combining words like - 'cat down' when it jumps on the table, or 'car gone' is what they are looking for by now, BUT the age range for this is so wide I would not worry until about 2 and a half. I'm just trying to talk to j loads, encourage hubby to switch off the bloody tv ( serious bone on contention on our house - I think background noise makes it harder for them to listen and learn, also means hubby is distracted and zombies into watching crP tv instead of interacting with them) and I hope he'll carry on progressing without the issues m has. As for potty training I just have a potty upstairs and downstairs, we sat him on it for a second or two about a month ago before baths (and clapped and grinned loads) he screamed in terror the first few times - then one day he did a little see in it, we talked about a 'poo face' (the one where they are obviously doing a squeeze!) and encouraged the 'poo face on the potty) - he had then pretty much ignored them for the last few weeks until this week when he started to go and sit on the one downstairs (fully clothed!) to do his poo - when we noticed that we figured he was ready so we started to give prizes (a small sweetie like opal fruit, or smartie) for doing a wee or pop in the potty - big claps, smiles, wave it goodbye down the loo. After the first two prizes he got the idea and is now a potty addict! I'm not planning in moving him into pants until after we have moved as he might regress. I think he is pretty early about 2 1/2 is more common - you need to wait for them to show they are ready or it's sooooo frustrating for you both. With the girls I used to read them stories while they sat in the potty to encourage them to sit on it at the beginning.citymami -

Ris just combining words now is behind for a two year old? Anderson said a short sentence just before 2, 'where boat gone?' but to be honest he doesn't talk much throughout the day more single words, but then he's resettling in NY I think, lots going on and I've had him out in the stroller lots, fire trucks and taxis beeping, or the subway whizzing past, so we haven't had much conversation! I need to get more books left some good ones in the UK, if it doesn't cost a bomb will ask my mother to ship... The only sentences I hear are copying songs, and obviously some of the more difficult words are not very well pronounced at all. I think he needs to be socialized with other kids at nursery/day care...don't know where to start with that. I have this Spanish lady across from me, my husband and his mother endorse, she could baby sit Anderson while I work but I don't know her at all, but if she seems trustworthy I am hoping for her to take Anderson to nursery in the AM and then watch him in my apartment in the afternoons until about 6pm when I'd be back from work. I don't know what to do about potty trainign I think if I want a good pre school potty trained is a prerequisite. Also some of the good preschools want you to apply a year in advance and even some of the daycares, are they serious...for the 2-3 year old class?! There's a daycare next to me that isn't on my 'recommended list' but it's right next to my apartment literally so will have to check it out, I just don't know I'm aiming to be attending job interviews in March, citymami -

The only problem I have with the website is that half my comment box is hidden behind the advertisments. Hunter loves to brush his teeth. I brush his teeth 3 times a day. He would brush his teeth all day long if he could. It tickles him so he loves it. Plus, I sing to him while I do it. Then I give him his brush when I'm done and he brushes his teeth more. rls- I♥mythreebabies -

Mybaby - J has just started letting me do it nicely, until a couple of days ago I would have to lie him down to do it and pretty much pin him down! The girls were the same until about 2 too. They would all chew tooth brushed, key me happily do about 5 second brush but for a proper brush would need pinning down. After I let them finish off their own. Now the girls do their own and i check afterwards.mybabysuprise -

J is 30lbs (was weighed today on his 2 yr review), he did good - was an ace with the jigsaw. His speech is a bit behind (he has only just started combining words) so they agreed we could contact them if we had further concerns, but I'm not too worried as I can hear progress over the weeks, and he is keen to try new words. They won't do anything until he is 3 or 4 anyway. He is also 90cm tall - which makes him 75 percentile for weight and height :-)
