You have probably noticed that your two year old wants to be as independent as possible. She does not realize that she still needs help accomplishing things. Because she wants to be independent, you might feel as though you are constantly battling your child over simple, everyday things. Rarely do the battles end nicely with some sort of compromise. Some of the battles you win and your child gets more frustrated and some your child wins, leaving you feeling angry and defeated. Take a deep breath, there is hope! Try to turn all of the battles into win-win situations. If your child wants to eat snack before naptime, allow her to choose her snack before nap and eat it when she wakes up.
Make-believe play is a fun and healthy part of growing up. Children enjoy being superheroes, doctors, moms, dads, teachers and other fun careers. By providing imaginary play equipment, you can encourage your child to use his imagination and be whatever he chooses to be. Join in the fun and play with your child. You have the power to create your child's imagination. You can even make simple props for pretend play from cardboard boxes, paper bags, construction paper and other ordinary objects.
Special occasions can be alot of fun for two year olds. Your child may be invited to a birthday party, holiday celebration or some other event. Explain to your child where you are going and what she is going do do there. Many two year olds find giving a gift to be hard, because they want the toys for themselves. If your child is going to see Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, show him pictures ahead of time and tell him who it is. Once you get to the event, if your child is hesitant about sitting with Santa or the Bunny, do not force him to visit. Let him see the other children visiting and your child may change his mind. At family events, do not force your child to mingle with family members that he is not accustomed to.
Continue to teach your child about colors, shapes, numbers, letters, animal sounds, body parts and other preschool skills. Two year olds love to do arts and crafts. Encourage him to learn these skills through arts and crafts, songs or dance and movement. Make learning fun for your child.

Ava will repeat words if she wants something. If we acknowledge it, it is a 50/50 shot she stops. But she usually keeps telling us what she wantsmomentfrozenintime -

Colin is 28 months now, as of a few days ago. He has been so funny lately. I fell down on the floor the other day (funny situation), and Colin came in there asking 'You ok? You ok?' and I told him I was.. so he said 'I help!', and he took my hand and started to 'pull me up'. hahah -- It was so cute. mrs.error08 -

Lex does that sometime. I think he does it more because he wants us to recognize he's talking. Like some of his phrases, I still have no idea what he is saying. I know he's talking because its not just a one time thing. He'll say a phrase one day and then the next but I just can't figure what exactly he's saying. Lol. So he'll repeat himself and I'll look at him and say yeah ok and he'll still keep repeating himself. I think because he want more than me to say yeah ok but I don't know what he's saying! But he'll repeat other stuff like his favorite Shrek over and over. I don't think its nothing to worry about. Their just practicing their words. Lolmomentfrozenintime -

Ok, I looked up this a little bit, but I am curious if anyone has a child like Colin haha. He is repeating words or phrases OVER AND OVER! For example, one of his favorites 'Oh, look! It's a choo choo train!' about 5-10 times. Sometimes, when we acknowledge it, he will stop. Sometimes, he just keeps going no matter what we say. I love him, but oh my gosh -- he is a talker! But I worry about the repeating phrase thing. It's like every other phrase. Anyone else experience this?momentfrozenintime -

I am the same way. I have to have the noise on, but if it is something Colin doesn't care about, then he won't watch it. He doesn't fall asleep to TV, though.. but it does relax him a bit.mrs.error08 -

No, he doesn't sit in front of the tv all day. I will admit that the tv is usually always on but that's just for me. I have to have the noise, especially when DH is at work. Lex is so active that he'll watch it for a couple minutes and then run off playing with something. Nap time is the only time he watches it for any length of time really. He'll watch about 20 minutes of a movie and then fall asleep. And sometimes we watch a movie together during the day or I put one on for him while I cook dinner. He is really loving Thomas the Train and still Shrek. He calls trains choo choo's and he can say Shrek now. We have all 4 Shrek movies in our collection now plus the Christmas one. Lol. He's starting to grow out of Toy Story and Barney and not like those as much. And I've had to buy a new wardrobe for him since size 2T is fitting a little snug and short so we went up to size 3T even though I end up rolling those clothes up most of the time. But I rather it be a little big than too small. And he went up a shoe size and is now in size 8. I can't believe some of the stores are already clearancing the winter clothes and putting summer clothes out! Its only the first week of january. But its already been 60 degrees the past 2 days here so I shouldn't be that surprised I guessmomentfrozenintime -

I think it's ok.. I mean, it's not like he watches TV all day long or anything, I assume (since he actually naps). I think a few minutes of TV a day is ok as long as it doesn't become a huge habit. Just be ready, because it could mean he grows up napping on the couch.. which isn't that bad!mrs.error08 -

I know right? If I let Lex pick a snack and then tell him he can't have it until after naptime we would have at least a 45 minute breakdown. Lol. Is it bad that I feed him before naptime? We usually do lunch and then I lay him in bed with a movie on and he takes his nap and I clean up. Or else I let him nap on the couch :p He's been doing so good about sleeping in his own bed at night that I let him slide and nap on the couch during the day. I put his pillow up there and he lays down and I cover him up and we watch the soap operas together and he falls asleep.momentfrozenintime -

I know that no one is really active here, but I'd like to point this out from this page: 'If your child wants to eat snack before naptime, allow her to choose her snack before nap and eat it when she wakes up.' HA!.. I could only dream it were that easy!soon2be3 -

We barely had enough. I actually had Halloween pencils and bouncy balls leftover from our Halloween party and had to start handing those out as well. We turned off our light at 8 pm and had about 10 items left. Whoooo...just made it!ms.bobbi25 -

David is about to take a nap so he can make it through tonight. Just cleaned Quinten up from an accident and need to get him something to eat. Our normal schedule is off a little. Very lazy day, but much needed!Danetteplustwo -

I've already planned my lesson for tomorrow and emailed it to my co-teacher. I've also planned the food for after the baptism next weekend. I took Sophie to ride the ghost train and spent an hour with her at the festival. After lunch we need to carve her pumpkin, go to a halloween party and then go trick or treating. Chris is sick today so he's been hanging out on the couch but he plans to take her out through our neighborhood so I'll pack the car for the morning between answering the door.monkeymamma -

Morning! I got to sleep in this morning! Still battling sinuses, which could actually have turn into a cold. My parents are coming over to pick up their stuff that didn't sale and their tables. Then we'll have dinner and hang out until candy time. They will stay here to hand out candy until we get back. David's off after all. But that kinda makes my garage sale a necessity instead of extra money. :( Oh well, he'll get to see Quinten have fun.soon2be3 -

What have you all got planned for today? I am going to shampoo our carpets this morning. Then, we have to get the kids' costumes ready. We have some friends and family coming over for pizza tonight (Papa Murphy's jack-o-lantern ones) and then we are all going trick-or-treating together. Our neighborhood has about 30 houses, but the neighborhood across the street has about 800! With the exception of the hills, it's the most perfect place to trick or treat. Almost all the houses have been constructed in our development, so I think we will start getting the trick-o-treaters from that development too! Bought 5 bags of candy. Hope it enough????soon2be3 -

I think that is true...as long as they are strong-willed, but many, many kids are not. My college roommate is one example. All of us turned 21 early...me in September, her not until the following June. She ended up getting a fake ID to get into the bars with us. She got caught buying beer when she was 20 and got an MIP, MIC and was charged with fraud for having a fake ID. I don't know...I just hope my kids are strong enough, but peer pressure can be so strong.
