This month your baby will begin staying awake for much longer periods of time. Your baby is happier and she does not cry as often as she previously was. There will be many opportunities for learning and sharing throughout the day. Interacting and playing with your baby will encourage her to learn. Your baby enjoys swatting at toys and may be able to grasp them occasionally.
Get ready for lots of laughs and giggles. Your baby still loves when you smile at her and she can now laugh at you. Babbles, coos, smiles and laughs are all part of her developing personality. Let her know just how much you enjoy hearing her laugh by laughing back. When she babbles and coos, do it back.
Some babies enjoy being held and rocked more than others, and that is okay. All babies are different. If you have a cuddly baby, take this time to enjoy it. Rocking and cuddling are good for babies and make them feel secure and comforted. All babies need to be held and soothed, and not just when they are crying. Show him just how much you love him and care about him. Babies like gazing you in the eyes. You can play simple games with your baby now, too. Peek a boo and `This Little Piggy` are favorites for many babies. Read to your baby daily and sing songs with her. If your baby starts to get fussy, it is time to stop.
Babies this age are becoming interested in toys. They do not need to be expensive or even store bought toys. When choosing toys, you need to be careful about what you allow your baby to play with. Do not buy anything that can fit inside of their mouth. Toy should not be made with anything that could break off or splinter. Never give your baby anything with sharp edges or corners. Make sure that older siblings understand that their toys may be dangerous for the baby.
Make your baby's room bright and welcoming. You could paing the walls, hang brightly colored pictures and add fun accents to make your baby's room interesting for him. Babies still do not need pillows or blankets. They are suffocation hazards and should be used only for decorative purposes. You can add a mirror on the wall above the changing table, or pictures of family and friends.
Your baby may start trying to hold his bottle at this point. Do not prop the bottle with blankets or anything else. This can cause ear infections. Rather, use this time as bonding time between you and your child. Breastfeeding should be well-established at this point. You can also pump your breastmilk and store it for others to feed the baby. Most babies want to eat every 4 hours and are consuming higher amounts.
If you ever find yourself getting frustrated with your baby, put the baby in her crib and call a friend or family member to help with the baby. Babies do not do things to frustrate you on purpose, and it is totally acceptable to need a break once in a while. Make sure you never shake or hit your baby. This can cause severe damage or even death.

my little girl is also on a pretty 'regular' schedule. she eats every 3 hours 6 ozs. sometimes 7. she usually has her last bottle at 9 and in bed by 9:30 and then sleeps until 7 or 8. I think she sleeps so much at night because she is one that only takes little cat naps here and there during the day. she is 16 weeks and has been rolling over for about the past 3 weeks and when i put her down on her back at night she has been waking up lately and when i check on her she is just frustrated because she has rolled onto her tummy and can't get back over. usually all i have to do is rock her and she will go back to sleep. her dr said around 4 months to try to just rock and not give a bottle because she eats so much during the day that she shouldn't need a middle of the night bottle and since she has been sleeping through the night for awhile now that if i started giving her one it could get her back in the habit of waking up for a bottle. is anyone else's little ones waking up because they are now rolling over? she really doesn't like being on her tummy and will only sleep on her back or side.AidensMom6176 -

savvy i would try a different nipple. the nipples that came with the bottles my little girl takes were the short and fat ones and my little girl would always spit out the bottle and push it away so we switched to the dr. brown nipples that are skinny and she takes them just fine. also addison has been pushing some of her bottles away lately but the dr thinks she is starting to teeth so the pressure of sucking hurts when she eatsrosye13 -

littlepixie - Gabi also seems to always be trying to stand. It scares me! I will be holding her while sitting on the couch and she will use her feet to shove off of me and I swear she almost stands up. Crazy little girl. She also can actually move across the floor in almost the same way. She'll be laying on her belly and get her little feet into the floor and just push forward. Gracie (my 15 month old) was definitely not doing that this early!littlepixie -

Sleep / feed for Nate is fairly good, tho he hates going to sleep at night, will usually crash by 11pm /12am. He will wake anywhere between 5 and 8 usually at between 6-7 am, have a 6 oz bottle and go back to sleep for atleast another 3 hours!! He only has tiny sleeps in the day too. Feeds every 3 hours, sometimes if he is having a nap he will go longer. last feed of the night is approx. between 9-11pm. He is teething, has been for weeks now but it seems to be giving him hell now bless him. He will be 15 weeks this coming thursday and on 13th november he was 17 lbs 8 oz!! hes getting his length checked next time as the health vistor thinks hes in proportion for his weight. People think hes alot older. He can even stand up straight if i hold his arms and even if i just lightly hold his wrists!!! he has an obsession about being on his feet. Anyones elses LO like this?EllasMommy23 -

mags- Our schedule is this: 8:30 am she BF- about 30 min. 11:30 BF about 20 min. 1:30-2 BF about 25 min. 4:30 BF 15 min. 6:30 BF 30 min. 10:30 BF 30 min. I know that when i go to work, my boyfriend gives her 6 oz of pumped milk. But yesterday he said she seemed to still be hungry after it. So the 7 oz bottles aren't that weird to me. Megan1231 -

mags- this is liam's 'usual' schedule. keep in mind he is 13 weeks 12 lbs and solely breast fed. gets up 730-830. i cant tell you how much he drinks cause its all boob but its a medium sized feed lol for him then. short- 5 min, med- 10-15, long is anything past that. takes first nap between 11-12 for a couple hours, he probably had a couple small-med additional feeds before the first nap. usually goes down for another nap at about 4-6pm for another 2ish hours. probably had a small-med feed before this nap. can get him to sleep again at about 11-12 from a big feed and he sleeps for 4 hours, wakes for a feed then goes back to sleep again til 730-8. that was probably really confusing... a 13 week olds schedule can be as such. its been going ok lately, one night he didnt pass out until 230 am, i was so dead!mom2be01 -

Savvy: Has she gone out and bought different nipples? I know it may sound like a silly question but maybe there is something about the nipple on the bottle that the baby doesn't like. I had to buy four different bottles before I found one that Bree would take. Also, if the little one take a paci, when he starts to really fuss, have her stick the paci in his mouth and let him calm him self. Then take the paci out and put the bottle back in. I had to do this with a bottle that I thought would work before I found the Nuk bottle. Bree loves it! If she hasn't, I would go out and buy a bottle of each kind and try each one until you get one that may work. That and the paci trick. Sorry so long. Hope it may help. Oh, and is she still warming his bottles?? Bree will fuss if hers isn't warm enough.Savvy -

Hi Guys, I have a friend and her baby is 11 wks old. The problem is that the baby is refusing his bottle completly now, for almost 2 weeks. He use to push away the bottle, now he will not take the nipple or if she pushes the bottle in his mouth, he pushes the nipple to the side. the only way she can get him to eat is when he is half asleep, if not he prefers to stay hungry and fusses. any one ever went thru some thing like that? she is getting desperate now. The baby was always fomula fed. Pls help if u can. thanksmagswp -

So ladies, what's your baby's feeding schedule these days? My son still wakes up for a nighttime feeding and I'm wondering if he is not getting enough calories during the day or what. His feeding routine goes like this:
- wakes up 8ish: BF (big meal)
- 12-1pm: 7 oz bottle of breast milk with 2-3oz of formula mixed in
- 4-4:30pm: 7 oz bottle like before
- 6:30-7pm: BF
- 8:30-9pm: BF (nurses longer this time)
-10:30ish:BF falls asleep on the breast
-5ish am: BF (nurses only for 5-10 minutes).
I just started giving him 7oz today cause 6.5oz wasn't satisfying anymore. I mean, how much more at one time can I give him? He is 15 weeks old and almost 14lbs now. I can't wait 2 more weeks to start him on rice cereal because I begin to think that breast milk with 4-6oz of formula is not enough for him anymore.magswp -

My baby goes to sleep around 10:30pm and sleeps till 5am (in average). Then he eats, diaper change, meds, and he goes back to bed and sleeps till 8ish. Sometimes, like last night, he wakes up around 4am, and then 6am, and 8am. But there are also nights when he can go from 10:30-11 pm till 6am.joelisa -

Question for you all: On average, how many hours a night does your baby sleep (in a row)? The longest Ingrid will go is 5.5/6 hours (which is rare). I have a friend who's daughter is 5 weeks younger then mine, and she slept 8 hours in a row! Which is awesome for her, I'm just wondering if Ingrid should be sleep more??? Thoughts???number2luv -

My baby just started giggling this week! She is 14 weeks now. it's so cute! she usually does it when i'm changing her or talking to her. she has to be in the right mood. don't worry though, your baby will soon i'm sure. babies at this age seem to vary so much with developmental milestones.magswp -

My son laughs but he doesn't do it very often. He hasn't done it for the hubby yet. Each time it happened it was around his bath time at the changing table when I sing to him. It's not much of singing but more of high tone titu titu, lalala. Apparently, he thinks it's hilarious cause he laughs out loud and kicks his legs and waves arms BIG time. It's so sweet to hear my baby's voice this way. He sounds so grown up, too!LauraID -

My lo hasn't laughed either he squeals. Its funny b/c he does everything else but laugh. I can't wait to hear it.
Jaiden was so grumpy tonight. I am so over breastfeeding, he always stops eating to be nosey then gets mad b/c he isn't latched on anymore ugh. He is really nosey, 1 day I was saying something to the dh & he stopped nursing to look @ his dad & smiled then continued nursing lol.
Well I plan to stop nursing in Jan. I have started giving him some formula tho. My MIL is kind of making me mad b/c she doesn't respect my decision to stop nursing. She keeps trying to practically tell me to keep nursing until my lo turns 1. I'm thinking to myself did she not hear me say I don't want to anymore. I'm sitting there telling her no but she's not listening. I just think she should respect my decision just b/c she did it for a yr doesn't mean I have too. Her son is ok with my decision. Don't get me wrong she's a nice lady but the choice is not up to her.
