3 months old This month your baby will begin staying awake for much longer periods of time. Your baby is happier and she does not cry as often as she previously was. There will be many opportunities for learning and sharing throughout the day. Interacting and playing with your baby will encourage her to learn. Your baby enjoys swatting at toys and may be able to grasp them occasionally.

Get ready for lots of laughs and giggles. Your baby still loves when you smile at her and she can now laugh at you. Babbles, coos, smiles and laughs are all part of her developing personality. Let her know just how much you enjoy hearing her laugh by laughing back. When she babbles and coos, do it back.

Some babies enjoy being held and rocked more than others, and that is okay. All babies are different. If you have a cuddly baby, take this time to enjoy it. Rocking and cuddling are good for babies and make them feel secure and comforted. All babies need to be held and soothed, and not just when they are crying. Show him just how much you love him and care about him. Babies like gazing you in the eyes. You can play simple games with your baby now, too. Peek a boo and `This Little Piggy` are favorites for many babies. Read to your baby daily and sing songs with her. If your baby starts to get fussy, it is time to stop.

Babies this age are becoming interested in toys. They do not need to be expensive or even store bought toys. When choosing toys, you need to be careful about what you allow your baby to play with. Do not buy anything that can fit inside of their mouth. Toy should not be made with anything that could break off or splinter. Never give your baby anything with sharp edges or corners. Make sure that older siblings understand that their toys may be dangerous for the baby.

Make your baby's room bright and welcoming. You could paing the walls, hang brightly colored pictures and add fun accents to make your baby's room interesting for him. Babies still do not need pillows or blankets. They are suffocation hazards and should be used only for decorative purposes. You can add a mirror on the wall above the changing table, or pictures of family and friends.

Your baby may start trying to hold his bottle at this point. Do not prop the bottle with blankets or anything else. This can cause ear infections. Rather, use this time as bonding time between you and your child. Breastfeeding should be well-established at this point. You can also pump your breastmilk and store it for others to feed the baby. Most babies want to eat every 4 hours and are consuming higher amounts.

If you ever find yourself getting frustrated with your baby, put the baby in her crib and call a friend or family member to help with the baby. Babies do not do things to frustrate you on purpose, and it is totally acceptable to need a break once in a while. Make sure you never shake or hit your baby. This can cause severe damage or even death.

  • When being held up, your baby should push down on their legs
  • She can bring both hands together and open fingers

wow, my LO is only 12 lbs and 22 1/4 inches. I think she is 14 wks now. she is tiny compared to the rest of you. she has doubled her birth weight

number1bubs - Wednesday, 8 Feb
Redding: Grayson just finished a growth spurt. It seemed like overnight his clothes shrunk. He just grew out of them really quickly. He's now in 6 to 9 months clothing and growing out of those fast. I'm very curious to see how much he's officially grown at the 4 mo appt. Love: our LO is over 16 pounds, also, and measuring almost 27 inches. Dr. said he's just a big boy.

schmittsfirst - Wednesday, 8 Feb
needagirl- I exclusively pump and have noticed that this is what causes the pain in my boob/nipple. It's awful. But really mine is more in my nipple. You may want to go to the dr and make sure you don't have a clogged milk duct. I've heard those are VERY painful, my pain is bearable. Good luck!

LoveMyAngel21 - Wednesday, 8 Feb
My baby girl is having a growth spurt as well. Hungry every few hrs. The doc told me that she could want other things. Diaper change, played with. But I do all that and she still fusses and only calms down when she takes her bottle. And feels satisfied whens shes done. The doc thinks Im over feeding mmy baby. But if shes hungry Im going to feed her. Not going to starve her. She weighs 16 lbs 2 oz. I think shes perfect, and when they're hungry, us moms know it.

redding2009 - Wednesday, 8 Feb
I think my little girl is having growth spurt or something! Cara really has not been herself these past couple of days..she is CONSTANTLY hungry..so we upped her feedings, but she still wants to eat like every 1-2 hours. She seems a lot more fussy...its really hard to soothe her. And her naps have been really weird too. Anyone else suspect their LO is having a growth spurt?

needagirl - Wednesday, 8 Feb
Schmitt- I do pump but it doesn't seem to alleviate the pain at all. Last night I couldn't take it anymore and I took a 600mg motin that I had left over from my surgery and it seemed to help, that is until 3am that I had to nurse him again. The pain just came right back. :-/

schmittsfirst - Wednesday, 8 Feb
needagirl - Mine does the same thing, Do you pump? I was told by my dr not to take anything but tylenol and no more than 250 mg. i haven't notice a help, but it does hurt like crazy. :(

needagirl - Tuesday, 7 Feb
I have a really sharp pain shooting thru my right breast. Does anyone know if motrin would help alleviate it?

needagirl - Tuesday, 7 Feb
Sick- yes you should use the oldest first so that it does not go to waste. Need- blck feeding is when you only offer one breast during a two hour period. So let's say you start with the right until he empties it, then you stop the feeding and an hour later offer the same breast.

number1bubs - Tuesday, 7 Feb
Need: I don't know exactly what block feeding is. I start every morning nursing Gray on the left side. He nurses till I'm empty and we switch to the right. He nurses till he's full up. Next feeding we start on the right and so on throughout the day. I still leak and spurt everywhere. Hopefully someday I'll get it under control.

sickasadog - Tuesday, 7 Feb
well, Holdyn is doing okay at daycare except for eating. she won't really take a bottle from them. when they call me, I come over and she drinks the bottle from me. ugh... I hate that I have to work, but it is what it is. I will keep pumping and hope she will get used to them. I know she prefers fresh breast milk, but I need to use the older frozen milk first, right?

MiasMomma11 - Tuesday, 7 Feb
sickasadog- our lil girls have the same birthday! im curous to know how big your LO is because Mia is quite large i think but i really dont have many babies her age to compare her too

schmittsfirst - Tuesday, 7 Feb
Dulcianasmom- my baby has been on zantac since about 3 weeks. It helps tremendously, but I also notice cutting out dairy has helped a ton too. Which SUCKS!! I use to drink a gallon of milk a week by myself! plus the cheese all the time. :( But now i still eat a little cheese, and I cook with milk and he's doing SOO much better. Good luck!

sickasadog - Tuesday, 7 Feb
I also have a heavy letdown. she does better when I lay down, but I don't always have time for that. I do give her one breast per feeding. sometimes, she just lets go and let the milk spray everywhere. ha ha

MiasMomma11 - Monday, 6 Feb
Mia rolled over tonight! :) im so proud of my lil bug! and after she did it she smiled so big and did it another 5 or so times! i also think she might be teething her drool is just flowin out her mouth and she has had some sleepless nights this past week and a runny nose and she is tryin to shove everything in her mouth!

needagirl - Monday, 6 Feb
dulciana- I've had that prob with my LO from day 1. My letdown is also very forceful and he has terrible gas issues but I have made some adjustments to nuring and it has helped. For instance, I block feed where I just offer 1 breast for a 2-hour block. That way he gets foremilk and hindmilk. If I feel too full I hand express 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce at the beginning of the block feeding with that particular breast. We never tried reflux meds because he rarely spits up and has never vomited.

brookesmommy78 - Monday, 6 Feb
Dulciana-- Yes I had that problem with both my kids....I apparantly have a very FAST STRONG let-down and it would make them mad....I tried reflux meds to rule that out and it didn't help. So I just pump and give them bottles....nursing was never very peaceful and nurturing for us! It felt like a big wrestling match!

needagirl - Monday, 6 Feb
Does anyone in here have a babybjorn babysitter balance seat? We are going on a family ski trip this Thursday for 5 days and I need something to takes so I can set baby down or I will go nuts! I’ve actually considered packing up the mamaroo but with all the other crap we have to take, including snowboards and skis, stroller and carseat, I just don't want to fly with that much and risk damaging my mamaroo. This bouncer looks like it folds compact and the reviews are pretty much 5 stars across the board. Anyone??

Dulcianasmom - Monday, 6 Feb
4 months old tomorrow!! She is changing SO much!!! Rolling from tummy to back and starting to 'rock' from back to tummy, almost rolled over! Laughs, coos, gurgles..oh and SCREAMS! lol! I've never had a screamer before and good lord does that little one have a set of lungs! Had her 4mo checkup today and talked with the doc about the issues she's been having with feeding. She'll have about 2-3 feeding sessions where she'll latch on, feed till just after the inital let down and then start arching her back, scrunching up in a ball, arching her back, scrunching up, screaming & crying and at first i thought it was gas, but i'm afrain its reflux cause she does spit up quite frequently thruout the day :( So, the doc prescribed her zantac BUT i think i might pick up the Rx, but wait on giving it to her...might try to eleminate dairy from my diet to see if that helps. Its gonna be hard, not so much that i like milk, but CHEESE!! i'm like a mouse! lol!.. oh and sour cream, but i don't eat that everyday. Anyone else had issues like that?

sickasadog - Monday, 6 Feb
oh btw, I am working again so if I don't respond, can you put it in my profile message? Can't believe we all are almost out of the newborn stage and entering the fun times of capturing our child's discovery of life. They are so cute now with their laughs and personalities showing through

sickasadog - Monday, 6 Feb
bubs, you will have to let us know which one you like. I am leaning towards the brezza. I didn't have this on my list cause i just decided to do my own food once I started juicing this year. I am so excited to start making the food.

number1bubs - Monday, 6 Feb
Sick : I have the Brezza Prima from Williams Sonoma. It's still in the box, but, looks like it does pretty much everything according to the box. I, also, have the bullet still in the box. It was a gift.

sickasadog - Monday, 6 Feb
has anyone compared the Baby Brezza One Step Baby Food Maker to the baeba babycook processor?

needagirl - Monday, 6 Feb
schmitt- doesn't hurt that it's super cute, too! I got the 'gypsy' color. FYI, it is on the pricey side ($119) but if you order on diapers.com, its free next day shipping and no taxes. So you only pay the $119. Also, from what i was reading, its super easy to clean the steamer. Looks like that is a big issue with some of the other baby food processors on the market.

schmittsfirst - Monday, 6 Feb
Ok i was looking at the pros and cos from the baby bullet and the Beaba babycook, and i'm thinking i REALLY like the Beaba babycook. I might be buying this one instead because like you said needagirl, the steamer is built in, plus it has the ability to defrost and reheat. Really liking it! Thanks for the info!! :)
