5 months old Your baby has developed alot during the past few months. Because she is now able to roll around and may be able to `wriggle` it is time to childproof your home if you have not already done it. It is important that you take the time to make sure all dangerous objects are out of reach for your baby. Baby gates can be installed at doorways that are dangerous for your baby to enter. All cabinets and drawers should have locks on them. If your baby is messing with something that he should not have, redirect him to another safe area or give him something that is appropriate for him to play with. Never spank his hands or yell at him- he does not know what he is doing at this point.

If your baby does not go to daycare, think about joining a playgroup. Not only is good for him, it is also good for you! Playgroups usually have other moms and babies that you can and your child can relate to. Your baby will enjoy the company of the other babies and they all can learn from each other! Get to know the other moms in the group- they will be excellent sources of information and advice if it is ever needed.

At this point, your baby might start to develop fear around strangers. Let her get used to new people on her own timing and do not force her to be with someone she is aftaid of. She might also develop separation anxiety. This is normal and it is okay. When you leave your baby, tell her that you will be back and give her a quick hig and kiss. Never sneak out on her- this can cause your baby to lose trust in you.

Babies at this age like toys that make noise. Because some babies will begin to pull themselves up on their hands and knees, you should remove crib toys and mobiles from the bed. Your baby will become very interested in toys that she can bang together, suck on, chew on, put together and touch. Daily interaction with her with help her develop the best. Enjoy playing with your baby and praise her when she learns something new! Your baby has good aim when she reaches for something- but, everything she grabs still goes in her mouth! Challenge your baby's memory with simple games of peek-a-boo and hiding/revealing objects. She will begin to understand that items still exist even though you can not see them.

At five months old, he loves to suck on his hands and possibly his feet. He likes when you read to him, talk to him, sing to him and hold him. He will watch your lips when you talk and try to immitate you. Give him a chance to do so. He understands his name and likes to listen to music. He babbles constantly and can say different sounds. Repeat the sounds back to him when he talks to you. Some month old babies will be able to sit without support for a few moments.

All babies are born with a particular type of temperament. Each baby is different and their likes and dislikes vary. Babies with challenging temperaments need their parents to be patient and calm. It is important that you understand what your babies like and dislike so that you know how to handle challenging situations.

Some babies are ready to take a cup at five months. If you are nursing, pump and put the breastmilk inside of her cup occasionally. It is still very important that you continue to nurse your baby often. When trying new foods, try one food for a week before introducing another one. This will eliminate the guess work if allergies develop.

My lil one was six months christmas day and still no rolling over or trying to crawl should I start to worry?

That's so cute Texas! & happy 6 months! It is flying by & I'm in no rush for the baby stage to be over. Olivia is rolling & scooting but still pretty sedatary. She's got 4 teeth & mimmicks 'hi' & 'mama'. She is also nursing a ton & waking at night again so I tried oatmeal since she hates rice cereal & she's hit or miss with it. I gave her some home made banana's and she loved them. Still not making it a daily routine but I have started sitting her in the high chair with the family at all meals. I gave her a sippy cup to play with so she can start to learn how to handle it. She knew what to do...grabbed both handles & to her mouth straight away. I'm sure it'll take a minute for her to learn to suck versus chew though.

and his character is really showing now, you can tell his likes and dislikes a lot, he is already afraid of old people (LOL, really, it is only old people that make him scream at the top of his lungs when he looks at them ). He loves small things, which is horrible since he tries to put them in his mouth! I'm going to have a handful!

luv- very normal! Well, it is officially the first so my little man is officially 6 months old. Can't believe how time has just flown by. I have tried him on solids again over the last couple of days, he still seems to get really bad gas from eating baby food, tried different kinds and they all seems to hurt his stomach. Sucks, but he is totally ready for something cause he nurses like every hour or more and my nipples are so tore up, he keeps biting me too. He is SO mobile now, he crawls all over the place and so fast! His poor sisters can't play anything on the floor without him being there and in it within a minute!

Merry Christmas, ladies! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

wowwee - Thursday, 22 Dec
I can't wait for lo first Christmas! Iv got some lovely cards for him which I will keep safe so he can see them in years to come! Iv got a problem with my lo, he's sicking up constantly and it's really starting to get to me now because he's always covered and I can't hold him without getting covered too! I only feed him one meal a day and rest Is milk. I tried not giving him any food and he was still stick. Should I just try to feed him food and give him no milk?

Ali*L - Thursday, 22 Dec
amanda- my girl is little, too. Ruby is 13 lbs and 23 in. =) She is a chub! I keep getting headaches! It sucks! Super excited about Christmas! It starts tomorrow for us! Feel a little guilty that we didn't buy ANY gifts this year but we just couldn't afford it. The kids will have lots of presents so it will still be a normal Christmas for them. =) Merry Christmas, ladies!

lucky13 - Wednesday, 21 Dec
Got a lot going on but wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday & a Very Merry Christmas in case I don't get back on here. I hope everyone gets the best presents of all- the love of family, the warmth of home & memories so good you just can't stop smiling!

Wow avas a little thing compared to yalls lo's. She's 6 and half months and weighs in at 15 lbs 3 oz. She's a shorty too though so I'm sure it's fine? Shes 25 inches. She does seem very small to me though for her age...

amanda220 - Tuesday, 20 Dec
Shabs - I'm so sorry. That's awful! I completely understand how you feel. I'm very reliant on my husband to help out with Ava. He's at a job where he gets paid next to nothing and just offers a job for twice the pay but he'd be working 12 hr shifts - 9 am to 9 pm. So I'd have to work all day then go home and play, feed, bathe, and put Ava to sleep by myself... In addition to daily chores! It stresses me out thinking about it. My job is very stressful and Im gone from home 10 hrs a day so I need his help! I rely on him to do certain things in the afternoon! So I don't think he'll be accepting the job. Plus he'd be traveling daily. His job now makes next to nothing but he's close to home.

shabs78 - Tuesday, 20 Dec
Just found out my husbands **** of a boss won't let him take his holidays this week which means he won't be coming with me back home to Australia and he won't be there to celebrate our babies first Xmas. So ive got a twelve hour flight alone with a six month old who has three solid meals a day plus plenty of feeds. I don't know how I'm going to manage. Haven't stopped crying all day. I think his boss is purposely trying to break us apart.

mommajess - Tuesday, 20 Dec
Cami only weighed 15 pounds at her four month check up but I already had her in 3s. I'm thinking its almost time for 4s though. I have a bunch of size 3s that were given to me at a diaper pounding at work and so when I'm out of those we're moving to 4s. I'm pretty sure you should probably just move up a size lucky. You'll be surprised how they fit probably. I never go by weight on diapers. I go by how they fit.

wowwee - Monday, 19 Dec
My lo was 17 lbs at 5 and a half months and we on size 4 as the 3 only goes upto 20lb and although looked plenty big enough just wasn't holding it all in. So on 4s which are 20 to 31 lbs. He was out of 2s so long ago they must look so small!!! I was in a foul mood yest. I bought lovely cards for my nephews that each had their name on and a lovely one for sister in law and hubby from lil man but they never made it to destination. I sent them in one big envelope but all that arrived to them was our one, others had been taken out, bloody royal mail staff looking for money in them. So pi**ed....

texasmamaof3 - Monday, 19 Dec
lucky- If I don't change my guy quick enough after a poop (like don't catch it) it'll leak, otherwise I normally hear him grunting and stuff so know when to change him right away. I use 7th generation that I buy off amazon, I just ordered size 3 for my next order that is supposed to be here right after Christmas (he is size 2 now but think the 3 will work a lot better for him). They reduced the discount on amazon mom now though from 30% to 20% so they aren't as cheap as they used to be, I still get the 30% cause I 'locked in' but any new orders get the lower discount. =(

lucky13 - Monday, 19 Dec
Lol...at 4 months the was 18.5 pounds- big, chubby baby! She's is a 3 but maybe I need a 4. My goodness, my 2 year old was just in a 4 earlier this year. Her poops are so runny. I hope once she starts cereal it will help.

amanda220 - Monday, 19 Dec
My little girl is 6.5 months and just moved to a size 2 diaper a month ago or go. They are plenty big but overnight they'd leak. I switched her to a size 3 only for overnight and even thoug theyre huge on her, they hold in her pee. I don't have the problem with poop. But maybe a size up would help? The 2s are plenty big on her and the 3s are crazy big they work for overnight...

wowwee - Monday, 19 Dec
Iv used huggies pretty much the whole time and they have been perfect. I did though have a couple of leakages when using 3 and I thought they were plenty big enough but I tried a size 4 to see if it stopped and it did. How much does your lo weigh?

lucky13 - Monday, 19 Dec
Ok, I need help now. My LO is in a size 3 diaper & they are plenty big enough for her. She is EBF & I know breast milk has a natural laxative so her poop is always runny. Well, she is pooping out of her diaper pretty much every time she goes and it's really getting frustrating! I have to bathe her constantly & she goes through several outfits...not to mention if we are out in public it's a fricken mess. I'm a Pampers girl but if there's something out there that will contain her poop I will gladly change. The swaddlers worked best but they don't make them in bigger sizes. I tried baby dry & they leaked horrible! So now I'm using cruisers & still poop explosions everyday! Any suggestions???

lucky13 - Monday, 19 Dec
Wowee- I can't help there, I'm still only EBF. I'm not sure anything but a puree would be safe right now though. What about grinding down what you eat? You would have to have a food grinder of course. I know you can get manual ones pretty cheap.

wowwee - Monday, 19 Dec
Hi ladies hope you can helpy lo is def ready for more than just purée what kind of finger foods can I give him that are safe and tat he won't choke on. Rich tea biscuits is all iv been told so far as they melt into nothing, but I would like a healthier option!

wowwee - Sunday, 18 Dec
I'm in england sizes are dif I'm a 16 and 175. I was a skinny Minnie upto last year but put so much weight on, carring it on my chins, arms and belly!! Thanks Texas il give it a go!

lucky13 - Sunday, 18 Dec
Ok, I have to dust off my hand weights lol! Maybe, just maybe, my kids will play in the play room nicely for 20 mins while I run on the treadmill. I'm actually trading some stuff with another mom so I'll be getting an exersaucer for my basement Wednesday. That should make it much easier to get on my treadmill & do laundry ( that's the 1 chore I can't seem to conquer). If anybody uses Facebook....I just started a group & it has blown up! It's called Delaware moms- buy, sell, & trade. I have over 220 members already & have gotten some great deals. Just wanted to share the idea in case anyone wants to start one for their area. If you do, good luck!

texasmamaof3 - Sunday, 18 Dec
wow, you are tall! I never knew that! I'm like a size 12 at 158 cause I'm so short! Try that workout I posted with me and running in place, lets see if it works =)
