Your baby has developed alot during the past few months. Because she is now able to roll around and may be able to `wriggle` it is time to childproof your home if you have not already done it. It is important that you take the time to make sure all dangerous objects are out of reach for your baby. Baby gates can be installed at doorways that are dangerous for your baby to enter. All cabinets and drawers should have locks on them. If your baby is messing with something that he should not have, redirect him to another safe area or give him something that is appropriate for him to play with. Never spank his hands or yell at him- he does not know what he is doing at this point.
If your baby does not go to daycare, think about joining a playgroup. Not only is good for him, it is also good for you! Playgroups usually have other moms and babies that you can and your child can relate to. Your baby will enjoy the company of the other babies and they all can learn from each other! Get to know the other moms in the group- they will be excellent sources of information and advice if it is ever needed.
At this point, your baby might start to develop fear around strangers. Let her get used to new people on her own timing and do not force her to be with someone she is aftaid of. She might also develop separation anxiety. This is normal and it is okay. When you leave your baby, tell her that you will be back and give her a quick hig and kiss. Never sneak out on her- this can cause your baby to lose trust in you.
Babies at this age like toys that make noise. Because some babies will begin to pull themselves up on their hands and knees, you should remove crib toys and mobiles from the bed. Your baby will become very interested in toys that she can bang together, suck on, chew on, put together and touch. Daily interaction with her with help her develop the best. Enjoy playing with your baby and praise her when she learns something new! Your baby has good aim when she reaches for something- but, everything she grabs still goes in her mouth! Challenge your baby's memory with simple games of peek-a-boo and hiding/revealing objects. She will begin to understand that items still exist even though you can not see them.
At five months old, he loves to suck on his hands and possibly his feet. He likes when you read to him, talk to him, sing to him and hold him. He will watch your lips when you talk and try to immitate you. Give him a chance to do so. He understands his name and likes to listen to music. He babbles constantly and can say different sounds. Repeat the sounds back to him when he talks to you. Some month old babies will be able to sit without support for a few moments.
All babies are born with a particular type of temperament. Each baby is different and their likes and dislikes vary. Babies with challenging temperaments need their parents to be patient and calm. It is important that you understand what your babies like and dislike so that you know how to handle challenging situations.
Some babies are ready to take a cup at five months. If you are nursing, pump and put the breastmilk inside of her cup occasionally. It is still very important that you continue to nurse your baby often. When trying new foods, try one food for a week before introducing another one. This will eliminate the guess work if allergies develop.

I was very much going stir crazy. I was the manager of a credit union branch & when I left the branch went down hill quick. 3 seasoned employees left. They asked me to come back for a part time, temporary position to help them train people. The only person that can handle Olivia is my mom. She has an early morning job so once she gets off work she comes to my house & I go to work for 4 hours so I'm only gone 5 hours total. They gave me $20/hour so I couldn't say no, especially since I got to set my own schedule. It all worked out perfectly! By the time my 2 months is up I'm sure I'll appreciate being home again :)wowwee -

my little man can't sit up but he's been rolling around all over the place and he's even started crawling WITH his head up! before he was crawling just pushing his face along the carpet, now he is on all fours with head up! He even tries to stand on his feet while on all fours putting his butt WAY up in the air, he just wants to walk already! I also haven't slept much the last week. Ever since he ran his first fever he's had so much mucous that hasn't cleared yet and gets really bad and night so he spends the whole nigh choking and then cause he's up so much he keep wanting to nurse...ughlucky13 -

Ruby can sort of sit up and she can roll belly to back but she hasn't done it in a few days. Man, last night was rough! We went to bed at 9pm. Ruby was waking up and whining/grunting/crying most of the night! I am pooped! We finally all got up at 7am, she pooped and went right back to sleep! LOL Here is to a tired-out day!wowwee -

Can't believe I'm in 5 months now! Camille is really growing and learning. Yesterday she started sitting up on her own and also finally rolled back to belly. We've been rolling belly to back since 10 weeks old. Anyway, she's fantastic and eating well. She eats cereal in the morning and evenings and has a veggie twice a day. Of course she still breastfeeds , but I've had to start with some formula because my supply is trying to give out in the daytime. Hope everyone else is doing well!lucky13 -

Shabs- the second pregnancy will be much easier on you since you know what to expect. I was the same way with it being difficult on me physically & mentally but the second time you know what to expect. I'm the same as Texas...I EBF & Olivia is huge! Probably one of the biggest babies on here so don't worry about your supply. If your body is used to nursing it will not pump well BUT the more you pump the more your body gets used to it & will adapt. On the sleeping thing- I do a routine also. Same thing every night: bath, nurse, sleep. I always put her to bed in her crib and play a music box so she associates her bed & that music to sleep. It's good to let them be a little awake when they go down so they learn to soothe themselves to sleep. I don't do the cry it out thing but if she wakes in the night I don't run to get her. I let her babble & until she cries I let her go. You don't want the baby to associate every time they wake up you immediately get them. Olivia will wake up & coo, talk, & play in her crib for sometimes 15-20 mins. Good luck ladies! Not all babies are alike though...I learned that quick from my first to my second. #2 only takes 1 decent nap a day & sometimes none but sleeps well at night so I'll count my blessings =)wowwee -

If I could I would be pregnant right now! I loved being pregnant it was the best feeling in the world, I just know I can't gave another baby just yet due to money etc. My body is ruined already and is no way near how it looked before lo so that's not a worry! I guess il have to be sensible and wait the 3/4 years as planned. Reading iv had the same bedtime routine since 4 weeks old. When they start to get tetchy in the evening give them a bath then milk then straight to bed, soon enough they will get into a pattern and it will be roughly same time each evening then get earlier and earlier. Lo now has bath at 7ish. And because he knows bath milk then leads to bed, even if he hadn't fallen asleep when put into bed, he just falls to sleep on his own within 10 mins. Now daytime naps no idea he only sleeps 10 mins a time and in my lap!!!!!!! Not so good!!Romesmomma2011 -

Reading excellent question I need to know the same! Actually I have less than 2 weeks til I start my new job after not working for the passed two months and I'll be getting up early.my son usually sleeps ok at night but getting him to bed by a decent hour is difficult! Even when he wakes up early. If I don't fix this soon I won't get any sleep for work. Any suggestions other than just letting him cry? That doesn't always work. What does everyone do redding2009 -

Hi all! I was wondering if any of your babies are able to go to sleep on their own at bedtime or go back to sleep when they wake up at night or during naptime without any soothing techniques ( rocking to sleep, pacifier, nursing/bottlefeeding)? If so, what sleep training method did you use, how did you use it, and at what age? If not, what sleep training method do you plan to use and at what age?

shabs- if I try to pump I get little to nothing, but he EBF so I KNOW he is getting milk, and he is on the high end on the weight percentile...sometimes our bodies just don't like to pump (I swear our bodies know the difference) so long as you get enough wet diapers a day, you are producing enough.shabs78 -

Wowee, my lo has about 2oz solids daily but I'm not sure how much milk. She seems to have cut down heaps on milk which I'm worried about, but she's been going on the breast more often and refusing the bottle. She doesn't take more than 2-3 oz from the bottle, maybe three times a day. Getting her weighed next week so I'll see how we're doing. I can't get a lot out when expressing either, does this mean my supply is dropping?shabs78 -

I'm the opposite, lol I'm making sure I don't get preggo for at least another three years! And if I'm lucky enough to have another, I'm going to stop there. Being preggo and the after effects have taken a huge toll on me, mentally and physically. I need time to mentally prepare. Romesmomma2011 -

Texas I'm the same way! I want to wait til Rome is around a year or so to start trying again but every month I get disappointed when my period comes and the last test I took was neg. I plan on getting on special b/c since I'm still bfing but it's hard to get myself to take it I don't know why, probably because I'm secretly hoping for a surprise ha ha texasmamaof3 -

I'm still EBFing. He didn't digest the solid foods well so I figured he hadn't matured enough, I'm probably going to wait until the 6 month mark.wowwee -

You are blessed Shabs as mine cries constantly if I'm not holding him and i actually go for a walk rain or shine to get some quiet time without holding him! Ok he doesn't cry constantly but pretty much, I may get odd 10 mins here and there but I find tidying house etc hard, its funny really he will sit and chill ok and when I leave room he starts. He makes this awful groaning noise which really grinds me. It's so bad I hate it so much!
