6 months old Half of a year has gone by and your baby has grown and learned so much! At this point, she may be sitting up on her own and some babies will try to crawl! Encourage him by setting toys out of his reach. In no time, he will be crawling all over. Some babies also roll across the room! Your baby can turn and twist in all directions. She can transfer objects from hand to hand and will look for dropped objects.

Many babies will start teething at this time. You may notice that she is uncomfortable, drooling and bites down alot. Teething rings often help and the coldness can be soothing to her sore gums. If she doesn't like a cold teether, offer her a warm one instead.

Stranger anxiety usually increases by the time your baby is six months old. She knows the difference between people she recognizes and strangers. When you introduce your baby to new people, hold her and tell her about who the person is. Your baby will be able to sense how you feel about the new person. Don't force your child to sit with the person- let him set the pace. This is especially important with caregivers that take care of the baby while you are away.

Your baby still likes to be read to and likes to hear songs and music. Expose him to various sounds, sights, smells and textures often. Alot of your baby's learning comes from hearing. Because he likes other babies, take him to see other babies as often as possible. Watch how they interact. Your baby is learning about relationships!

Being a warm and loving parent will teach your baby to trust and respect you. If you find that your baby is doing something that he should not be doing, redirect him to an appropriate activity. At this age, your baby still does not know how to obey or disobey. However, he is learning to listen and can begin to understand what he should not mess with. After you have redirected him, remember to praise him for a job well done. Your baby will learn best and can not get into trouble if her world is interesting. Keep fun activities readily available and interact with her. Showing your baby how to do things the right way will also help her learn. If she pulls your hair, show her how to be gentle.

Most babies will have started some type of solid foods at this point. If you give your baby something that he does not like, keep giving it to him. It can take several attempts to get him to like something. The food habits that are learned now will stay with your baby for life. By giving her a variety of foods, you are expanding her taste and encouraging healthy eating habits. Allow your baby to sit in her highchair and eat with the rest of the family at mealtime. Babies will ususally eat until they are full-do not force her to eat if she does not seem interested. Some parents give their babies juice or water in a cup at this time. Because juice is high in sugar, limit her juice intake to 4 ounces a day. Remember, now that your baby is eating foods it is especially important to keep her teeth and gums clean. Wipe them down with a washcloth or use a baby toothbrush. Do not use any type of toothpaste that has fluoride in it.

Yep, definitely stranger anxiety!!! Went to my girlfriends house for dinner tonight and her sister was there with her 8 month old daughter.. She was all relaxed, chilled out, playing and babbling, smiling at everyone.. Not Ryan! He was scared shitless (sorry but there is no other way to describe it!) and wouldnt stop crying unless he was in my arms. I even tried talking to the person/people with him in my arms to get him used to other ppl.. He wouldnt even have it! I had to go into the other room with him alone and quiet him down.. He was like hyper ventilating by the end of it. It was crazy! Even today, we went to get his professional pictures done.. I wanted Christmas background ones AND fall ones.. Well, that didnt happen! I only got a few fall ones, NO Christmas ones at all because he was terrified of the photographer! lol. It was soo sad but I was really disappointed that we didnt get the good pics I wanted and it was a Christmas present for me from my Sis and like $200.00 Ugh, just so disappointed! :( And it also made me a bit sad to see the 8 month old little girl there just being so laid back and happy and laughing at everything while Ryan just kinda sulked and cried almost the whole time. It sucked!!! Hopefully this phase passes soon. Hubbys Grandma passed away on Tuesday and her funeral is tomorrow and the WHOLE family is going to be there.. I hope he doesnt go through it again tomorrow (as bad as today at least!) otherwise Ill have a horrible, HORRIBLE day!!!!

Question for moms who work outside of the house. How do you feel working a full day outside and then picking up your LO at day care? Are you content and like working outside the house or would you rather stay home with your LO's? I just enrolled in school to finish my last couple of credits to get my degree and go back to work in about 12 months. By the way, I am currently 3 mo. pregnant and was thinking of waiting until my next baby is 6 months to go back to the office. The issue that I am having is that I would really like to go back to work however, the thought of being away from my babies for such long periods makes me very sad. Right now I do enjoy all the beautiful moments with my little girl and would miss it terribly, but at the same time I want to work. My husband makes a good enough living and we don't necessarily need the extra income. He tells me that he rather the kids not go to daycare and stay with me, but it is ultimately my decission. I am conflicted about this. What do you ladies think?

flowerschild - Thursday, 19 Nov
layna- David started doing that sucking lip thing you are talking about a couple weeks ago. When he would do it it would suck his lip in and look really funny. He only did it for a couple of days. He has been babbling for quite some time and it is so cute! I notice he really babbles if he puts something in his mouth.

layna09 - Thursday, 19 Nov
anya has REALLY started talking. she just babbles and babbles. we were in jcpenney the other day and she was so loud. not whining loud but just repeating bababa, or dadada. its so funny! she is just so cute. also she's started this weird thing where she sticks her tongue to her upper lip, as if to lick something off, then starts sucking, its so funny i don't know how to discribe it right.

flowerschild - Thursday, 19 Nov
David`s napping patterns seem to be changing. His morning nap used to be his longest and for the past week or so its been really short and his afternoon nap seems to be the long one now and he fights the last nap (he usually takes 3 naps per day- 2 longs ones (1-1.5hrs each) and 1- 30 min one for the last nap. I am thinking that I may push the first nap further so we are just down to 2 naps per day.... anyone else experiencing their LOs patterns changing during the day?

all I want is a new carseat...I've told everyone not to get us xmas gifts...we want a new carseat...my LO has reached capacity with the one we have..time to upgrade and it's pricey! I don't care though...I'll do without groceies for a few weeks if i have to, seriously, I want the saafest one I can find...I'm pretty sold on Britax. I had looked atthem before but a while back...I forgot about it until a friend mentioned it again today and so i have spent hours doing research today...now I just have to buy it.

juandrea - Thursday, 19 Nov
no christmas presents for my baby. we are jewish! haha but he gets presents all the time from everyone so i don't think he is missing out on anything...

cheyennesmommy - Thursday, 19 Nov
On the topic of Christmas I got my daughter Cheyenne a Britax car seat lol! We will be getting her a few other small things but my family tends to be practical minded when it comes to gifts! Father in law plans to get my 6mth old a portable DVD player lmao! Oh well he just loves her lol

mcmommy1 - Thursday, 19 Nov
So I remember some of you ladies talking about how your LO were up wanting to play when they should be sleeping well Myles is doing the same thing waking up at 5 in the morning talking and blowing raspberries!! I hope we pass this phase soon! He just started hugging if I pick him up he wraps his arms around my neck it so cute granted he also pinches my neck at the same time but Ill taked it he also is super tickilish! under his arm pits, his back, his chubby thighgs, and his neck. He doesnt laugh either he screeches when you tickle him its so funny. Its all going so fast!!

josephsmom - Wednesday, 18 Nov
Oh you are right.. 8 months I accidentally counted Jan... oops!

agatamay13 - Wednesday, 18 Nov
mommytoalittleprince- haha, Nolan cries in some peoples arms too, depends who it is and if I am around. I read that it's good to talk about the person while you're holding him so he gets a sense of how you feel about the person and if it's positive he'll be fine, maybe haha. I am hoping this phase passes before Daycare~

Well, I think seperation anixiety is starting to kick in! We were at DH's brothers house tonight for dinner and as soon as he picked Ryan up he started screaming! And the only time he actually BAWLS and pouts right before he cries is when hes scared and thats exactly what he did! As soon as I took him back, he was fine.. So I comforted him a bit and gave him back to him to see if maybe Ryan was just upset.. but nope! He screamed again! lol. Ah well.. I guess they all go through it, he'll get over it. I AM the only one whos with him all day everyday so I guess I understand it! Everything is new to him... Poor baby :( The pout was soooo sad! lol.

THAT IS THE SAME BALL TING I BOUGHT...PLAYSCHOOL...

onebaby - Wednesday, 18 Nov
Layna - From how it sounds we bought our LO the same ball and he loves it! He'll spend ages trying to get it into his mouth altho it'll never fit so he gives up and licks the spikes! He reminds me of a little seal when he has it on his face:)

layna09 - Wednesday, 18 Nov
we just got this toy store in the mall called toyzam. and they have stuff you can get other places but then they have items like what we got anya, i've never seen anywhere else. and they are only a couple bucks more than walmart. but they have different items

layna09 - Wednesday, 18 Nov
anya is so easy to please. we bought her a ball the other day, it was only a dollar, and its a purple bouncing ball, no the small ones but a little smaller than a basketball. anyway it has the points on it, not sharp but enough to where she is intrigued by them. its so cute she thought it was the coolest thing when i bounced it. she cracked up, also for christmas we're getting her several things but one this we already got her is a ball item. it sits in a base and plays music and lights up. and the ball is like a clear beach ball. and it attaches to the base and reacts when the child hits it. then its got a tether attachment so the can hit it off but it doesn't roll away and they can crawl after it. and then when they get older they have a inflatable ball to play with. i think its by fisher price or hasbro. i don't remember and my husband already wrapped it...

monstamama - Wednesday, 18 Nov
Thanks to all who responded...glad to know it isn't just us! For Christmas we're getting Alphabet magnets, books, bathtub toys, and maybe a talking/animated Elmo or something...he loves stuff like that!

flowerschild - Wednesday, 18 Nov
JJ`s mom- I think you mean 8 months in Jan?

flowerschild - Wednesday, 18 Nov
One thing we already got David was a customized Muppet Puppet from F.A.O Schwartz. You get to design it yourself. If you are in NY city you can go into the store and do it there otherwise you can call and they will send you the kit, We got it about a month ago and it is SO cute. For his other gifts we will get him some toys but really we are not going to go crazy because they don`t understand it yet. I totally understand why you would want to go all out though! Most likely we is just going to want to chew on the paper...lol

jmercedess - Wednesday, 18 Nov

phatbaby57 - Wednesday, 18 Nov
my mom was always so over the top on christmas i'm a bit of a scrooge. i probably want ever buy a lot of stuff for him at christmas or his birthday (his birthday will probably be more about getting to do special things than recieving gifts) but will treat him all year round. the kid will probably never do without.

mcmommy1 - Wednesday, 18 Nov
On the subject of Christmas I am only going to get Myles a few things and put money in his bank account he is not old enough to know whats really going on so I told family to buy him some small stuff and a bond while he is young enough that you can get away with it.
