Your baby is becoming more interested in playing and can entertain himself for a little while on the floor. Encourage him to play by giving him stimulating and interesting toys. Your baby may enjoy an exersaucer or jumper, and this will help him develop muscles that are needed for walking. Many babies take off crawling at this age! When he begins to rock back and forth on his hands and knees, crawling is soon to come! If he is not yet up on his hands and knees, encourage him by placing favorite toys in front of him. Praise his accomplishments and if he begins to get frustrated, stop.

Organzing baby's toys can be a challenge. You need to find somewhere to safely store her toys so that they are easily accesible, but also easy to clean up. Low shelves can be great- make sure they are secured to the wall. A plastic laundry basket makes an ideal place for toys. Your baby can easily see what is inside and it moves from place to place easily. Make her play area interesting and encourage her to play with different toys to maximize learning. Babies at this age like toys that fit inside of each other- get her some nesting cups or a bowl with objects that can go inside.

Finger foods are good for babies that show an interest in feeding themselves. You can get special finger foods made just for babies or use cheerios as well. Bread, cheese and cooked veggies are all good choices. Put a couple on the highchair at a time. This will also help your baby develop fine motor skills. Let your baby help feed himself with less messy foods. At first, it can be messy. But, this is one of the many ways you can teach your baby to be independent. She probably has some teeth and sometimes snacking can help soothe the pain. It is also time to add some types of protein to her diet. You can add strained or pureed meats and poultry, but wait on eggs until atleast a year old.

New sounds will continue to come from your baby's mouth. She is learning different sounds and can say alot more. Listen to her and repeat her `words`. Point to objects and tell her what they are. Use a persons name when she sees them. Babies like to hear different sounds and will probably bang their toys together. Allow her to play with toys that make sounds.

Your baby likes to be included in what you do. He likes to be with other people and see pictures of other babies. Let him look at himself in the mirror often. Your baby can tell if someone is happy or upset by the way they look and talk. If you are upset, chances are your baby will notice.

You may begin to hear what sounds like real words. Your baby has learned alot about language and can say ma, mi, da, di, ba and bi. Put that together, and you may have just hear `mommy` or `daddy`. Make a game out of blowing air and clicking your tongue. These will help her with learning to talk. Teach your baby where her body parts are. You can show your baby different colors and tell him what they are.

Your baby's eyes are developing rapidly. When she was born, she could not see very far or differentiate colors. That is all changing now. Take her for walks and let her see as much as possible. Introduce her to different patterns, shapes, textures and colors. Play games with her that encourage her to use both eyes at the same time.

Because you are the most important thing to your baby, she will try to keep track of you. Separation anxiety is still an issue, but showing her that you will return will help. Calming your baby's distress will help her become less clingy. She will develop a sense of trust and security. As your baby grows and learns that you will always return for him, he will be able to tolerate longer perids of separation because of the trust he developed.

Redding - Baby should be eating solids by 6 months, they need the iron, just not before 4 months. Do whatever is right for you with what you feed baby though they may not take to too strong tastes like banana and avocado at first, but every baby is different..

Hi Ali, I've had a lack of poop prob with my lo from early days. I give her a teaspoon of prunes mixed in with her wholemeal cereal every morning, which I make myself by just steaming some pitted prunes and pureeing. I also give her pureed pears every other day as a snack and I find a yoghurt every other day. Also if ur really worried, to get things moving white grape juice diluted worked almost instantly. My lo now has atleast one to two movements daily. Oh and also I give her more fluids so it's nice and moist, lol!

Ali*- maybe its the yogurt stopping her up. i know when my baby she was on regular formula for the first 4 months and poor thing was sooo constipated and when she finally would go it was like water. so i took her to the dr and they said no more regular formula she needed soy. after switching she was and still is normal. poops 1 to 2x a day. u could also try feeding her a jar of baby prunes?? good luck!

Ruby has no teeth...and nothing that I can see (which is not very easy!) or feel. Jaxon (almost 3) had 2 bottom teeth and his top 2 ready to come through by this time. She is not crawling yet or pulling up to stand or any of that...she does sit for quite a long time and has been scooching herself backward which is how my first learned to crawl. If I remember correctly, I don't think Jaxon learned to crawl for real until he was closer to 9-10 months and learned to walk at 14 months. That is just fine with me! They grow up so fast in that first year! It is nice when they stay in one place! haha! Ruby has been having poop issues. Any suggestions are welcome! We have started yogurt and doesn't get much infant cereal anymore...I usually only feed her solids once a day or not at all but she does eat Gerber Puffs and Cheerios throughout the day. I give her diluted pear or apple juice to help with the pooping and so far, it hasn't helped. I give her prunes, peas, pears, peaches...anything that is supposed to help and nothing! I am not sure if it is just normal for her to go 3-5 days between or what! But I wish she would go more frequently! When she does go it is either a little more firm than peanut butter or more firm, like adult poop. It has not been dark, pebbly, or anything that would suggest it was truly constipation. What do you all think?

mommajess- your baby sounds like mine lol!! she still has no sign of teeth either! she turned 7 months on feb 8th. my first daughter had 3 teeth by 7 months! do u feed her baby food meat or big people meat?? how many oz of formula does she normally take? mine only about 18oz a day.

redding I did not delay until 6 months with this baby as she was very very keen. I did however skip rice....there's no good evidence for using it as a first food.....sometimes people who wean at 6 months skip pureed anything altogether (baby led weaning). I don't think its an exact science...more a case of doing what works for your family. My reasons for skipping rice were that my older child hated it as a baby, so with this one I just didn't bother.

Did anyone here delay all solids untill 6 months? I feel as if I am the only one is my 3-month section doing so. Also, I plan on skipping the rice cereal all together and want to start my lo on fruits and veggies, like pureed banana and advocado as her first foods. Anyone else?

Kristeen...Both of my children started off crawling with the army crawl. So that's totally ok :) I have been feeding Camille meat for a LONG time now. After I started her on solids I only waited a couple of weeks before starting meat. I had a hard time with my son eating meat, so that's why I started her early. And she's had no problems and seems to like it just fine, versus my son still hates it. I just wish Camille would get some teeth! There is absolutely NO SIGN of teeth. I think it's crazy....LOL OH well, that just keeps her babyish for that much longer :) She is trying to stand all by herself now, too. Just within the last ocuple of days I've been helping her steady herself and then let go. She can stand there for about 3-5 seconds and then plops down on her bottom. She gets super excited about it. She is my super whiney baby, though. She makes me crazy sometimes. I think she's going to be my affectionate child, as my son doesn't really like much 'loving'. Hope everyone is well...it is very quiet here.

hey guys! im wondering if anyones babies do like an army man crawl?? thats what mine does. she dont actually get on her hands and knees and crawl she stays on her belly and pulls herself! she sure can get around though! also was wondering if anyone feeds their babies any meat yet??

It went really well and he's doing it for us!! Shabs my lo isn't interested in crawling at all either. I think to be honest it might be easier if he doesn't learn. He's got very strong legs and I think once he gets going that will be it and il never stop him!

Her tooth is also taking so long, I can see it's cut the gum but isn't fully through yet, poor baby didn't eat anything hardly yesterday but I guess theses are all normal?! How are u guys doing, this room is getting so quiet!

I want to get lo christened and am meeting vicar tomorrow, we aren't reg church goers, I cnt rem last time I went and it wasn't just for Christmas but I do have faith and believe in Christian values. Both our families are all christened too. Is this a good enough reason to give vicar and do you think he will do it for us?

Mommajess-aria has been through the same thing, she weighed 11kg 2 weekends ago and weighed her yesterday and she has lost a kilo with all the vomiting and dihorrea. Would not eat at all some days and went right off milk. Was lucky to get 200ml into her a day :( but she is finally coming right after 6 days of it, only just drinking 3x 200ml bottles yesterday. Poor wee thing, then teething again on top of it. Crying alot yesterday, biting down and getting frustrated. Very unlike her. Already has bottom two teeth, I think the top two are coming through. Absolutely exhausted cause she's up 3 times in the night at the mo! Also developed a bad habit of cuddling to sleep and sleeping with us while she was sick which we need to break!

Crawling is a milestone and it is important for development because it helps with left to right brain development and is important for many areas later in life like speech and reading development. I have rwad studies about it and as a child I was taken to an occupational therapist who gave me exercises which included crawling (i was in primary/elementary school at the time). No need to panic about it but there are reasons children show normal patterns of progession and sometimes encouraging them to master skills outside of the normal progession could have an impact later, during their schooling. Ava is not crawling yet and is more interested in trying to stand, if she does I will encourage it but after she has standing and cruising I will still make sure she does SOME crawling even if she doesn't do it for long. Just my oppinion I dont want to upset anyone :)!! I hope all your babies are doing well. Ava is doing fine, I think she either has a little virus or is trying to cut her top teeth, I guess we will find out in a few days. She has been dribbley, whingy, not sleeping well, not eating well, not drinking her milk, and she has been spitting up/vomiting quite a bit. Not large amounts but regularly. She was around my sisters kids on Tues and Wed and they have a vomiting bug. She is now bottle fed, will take both breast milk or formula but I still have lots of milk so I have to pump (which is getting very draining but it is good for her so I keep it up and I don't want mastitis). She is sitting unaided, will go from sitting to crawling position and back again, rock on her hands and knees, she moves her feet but not her hands yet, and she can push herself backwards. I have been very buddy with life ATM but always hoping things slow down :)!!

HI girls! 7 months got here quick! Camille has been crawling since the beginning of January and pulling up since right at 6 months old. She's trying to cruise around the furniture, but she always gets stuck standing on her opposite foot. She can pull up on my pants leg and stand there without touching my leg, just my pants...and with just one hand. If we hold her hands and stand away from her, she'll walk to us. All this and she has no sign of teeth ready to come through at all! She is quite the eater even though she has no teeth. I mush up our supper and just feed her that sometimes and she loves it. She can actually chew really well and I think giving her that mesh feeder kind of taught her how to chew her food up. Took her on Tuesday to the doctor because she's been pulling at her ear and she weighs 19.12lbs. Sweet little babies! So glad to read about all your lo doing so well :)

Ava turned 8 months yesterday and she still isn't crawling forward yet. She crawls backwards... or scoots backwards. She gets on her hands and knees and rocks still. No actual crawling yet! My pediatrician said some babies never crawl!

Hehe, tell me about the rolling! In just a split second sameera goes from one end to another! Imagine once they start crawling :) I just love this age though, it's never a dull moment! Might have to buy a play pen soon though, the port a cot isn't big enough to accommodate her anymore and to get things done is getting mighty difficult!

Tooth still hasn't full broken through but I can see and feel it more so should be any day now. Luv, only u know what's best for you and your baby. Personally I'm pretty much weaned except for the odd comfort suck and sameera will be 8 months next week (omg, where has time gone?!) and that was only weaned coz she was hungry all the time with breastfeeds so started supplementing with the bottle so did a gradual wean.
