8 months old By eight months, your baby is sitting up well and he likes to play with a variety of toys. He is curious about everything he sees, hears, smells and touches. Your baby will turn in the sound of a familiar sound or voice. Rather than telling your baby `No`, give her one or two word commands. For example, if she is going in a room that you don't want her in, you can say `Come in here, please`. If she hears `No` alot, soon she will be telling you `No` as well. Because her memory is not developed yet, you will need to remind her several times exactly what you expect from her.

Your baby can crawl well towards objects he wants. He can also stand with some assistane. Some eight month old babies can cruise if they are holing onto something sturdy. Make sure that you have babyproofed all sharp objects and tables. Show your baby the world in a safe and stimulating environment. Your baby should have a vareity of toys that will allow her to develop properly.

Your baby is babbling up a storm now! Although some words are made up, she can probably say mama or dada by this point. She sounds a lot like how we talk, just very fast and jarbled. Speak clearly when you talk to your baby so that she can hear the pronunciation of words. When you are reading, point to the objects in the story. Talk about body parts with her and tell her what animals sound like. Continue to sing songs and nursery rhymes with him. Let your baby play with musical instruments and show her how to dance to the rhythm.

Allow your baby to interact with a wide variety of different people. Your baby should be exposed to all races, sizes and ages of people. If he is exposed to this at a young age, the likelyhood of developing any type of prejudices will be slight. Because your baby will look at how you treat other people, you should set a positive example for him to follow.

Babies learn by imitation, so lrad the way for him! Show him the proper way of doing things and then, give him the chance to follow. Don't expect perfection, learning new skills takes time and practice.

Now that she has some practice with foods, you can give her foods that are a bit chunkier. Make sure there are no large lumps, seeds or skins in her meals. Cut soft fruits and vegetables into small pieces. Give her a spoon and let her feed herself sometimes. You shouldn't add salt, sugar, syrups, or any additional seasonings to her food. Make sure that her foods are not too hot- you could easily burn her mouth.

Hi everyone, I haven't been on the site since I gave birth... but kept reading about your babies development for all 8.5 months:) I have a problem, and thought maybe one of you had it as well... My daughter refuses to eat solids since she started teething (upper teeth), from 6 to 7 months she loved solids! but it's been 1.5 months and she spits everything I give her:( and i keep trying every day... pureed stuff, finger foods... she only wants BF. don't know what to do... also she still wakes up at night 2-3 times, and because she's exclusively BF, I don't know - maybe she is actually hungry.... all comments and suggestions are welcome:) thank you

So Bellablue OT: but I got on a scale last night and I was 147!!! I put on ten freakin pound. I was like what the hell how did I put on ten pounds in two weeks. My sister was in from out of town for the last ten days so I was hang, eat bad and no gym, but still to put on ten pounds!! But I got on the scale this morning and was 141.6 ugh!! Better then 147, but still. I think I'll have to start weighing myself daily! Gotta start back. How did you lose all the weight if you don't mind my asking?

lovelybaby2 - Tuesday, 17 Jan
Lol bellablue she is to cute!!! I hear you on the weight, thats the one down fall of being PG. Im 137 right now and im happy with that. I'm 5'6 and would love to be in the 120's but I now for me that isn't going to happen. I've been doing the gym, running and also playing michael jackson on the wii with the hubby so much fun and a great work out. Im hoping that the next time around I'll be able to keep working out and running so that I don't put on as much wieght. I think my Little Man is goning to be tall to, he's already 20pounds and 30inches!!! Big differance from my DD who is 4 and still only 30pounds!! I live in Illinois, that was the first time that it has snowed and that the snow stuck all winter so far, I think we had about 3inches out there, but its all pretty much melted now. destiny0619~~ Thats what I was thinking I've been giving him water in his sippy and I was thinking of adding a bit of juice just to flavor it, but I couldn't remember when I started giving DD Juice, and we don't go back to the doc until next month.

bellablue - Friday, 13 Jan

Joshua has been standing unsupported for about a month or so. He just took a step tonight. He was turning from the table to the couch then back and all of a sudden took a step toward his sister. He slowly went down like he had control of the fall. He will be walking by 10 mo for sure!

bellablue - Wednesday, 11 Jan

lovelybaby2 - Tuesday, 10 Jan
Oh Kodyz boo good catch, poor little guy I hope he feels better soon. My DD got an ear infection everytime she got a tooth in, makes the teething even worse.destiny0619 ~~Sour candy is suppose to help, those preggy pops they sell, thats what they are. Lillianshappymommy~~ I had that with my DD people still stop us to tell us how pretty she is, I just say thanks and turn away, I know it sounds rude and I love that people think she's pretty but like u said its when im busy or worse when we are out to eat, I hate trying to eat with people I don't know looking at me. Or with my son people stop to tell us how handsome he is but will try to touch him! I hate that the most, i don't know u or where u have been don't touch my kids. Lol hannahe Now I want Jello!!! I know what you mean my DD did stuff sooner then my DS is doing things, but like you said they all do them on there own time. My DD was a very laid back baby very calm, and so is my DS, and now that the doctors seem to have me fixed up and we have decided to have another one Im worried he/she is not going to be that way, I mean really can you get that lucky three times in a row?? I hope so

hannahe - Monday, 9 Jan
hahaha jello all, or hello all...mmmm jello, i must be hungry

hannahe - Monday, 9 Jan
jello all, i am rarely on anymore but its so funny to read that people are expecting again already. i was in that same boat so many times and now i will never be again, so its a weird feeling to be living all of the baby's milestones for the last time. i have noticed that with my oldest (who is 5 now) he loved books and reading and was a very early talker and walker and he still is very advanced in school and physically very coordinated and athletic. my next child was always very laid back and did everything in her own time, still early, but not like her brother, so i was always worried about her development but now she is a bright and normal 3 year old, with my last 2 i learned not to compare them to other babies cuz they will all do thier own thing at their own time and once they are out of this 'learn something new every day' stage, nobody will knmow if they were walking at 8 mos or 15 mos...but im not gonna lie, i still get nervous when talia isnt talking in real words or standing by herself. us crazy moms always gotta worry about something, am i right ;)

lillianshappymommy - Sunday, 8 Jan
@bellablue I agree it is completely adorable when they smile back! lol Especially now that they have two teeth! I don't know I know they mean well, but sometimes I'm running late or I just have enough time to get where I'm going. I haven't quite got the hang of timing things right to get lillian and I dressed to go. lol

bellablue - Sunday, 8 Jan
hello ladies hope all are doing great,Arianna is doing excellent fun weekend glad to be relaxing with hubby and Arianna. Kodyzboo aww hope Kj feels better soon :) Destiny i never had morning sickness but i have heard a piece of bread works - Lillianshappymommy i know how you feel happens here 2 Arianna just smiles at them and i love her smile she loves everyone!

lillianshappymommy - Saturday, 7 Jan
@kodyzboo oh man i'm sorry he's been so sick! is there a way for you to give him showers to mix it up a bit? @destiny ginger i also remember lemonade helping. sorry you have morning sickness. :/ Lillian turns 9 months tomorrow! How crazy is that? She's getting so big and friendly it's amazing! Also I seem to have this little problem. Every time we go out we're stopped by strangers to tell us how beautiful she is. Now I love that people think she is gorgeous however I get stopped by more than 10 strangers in a day! It gets a little annoying because they want to stand and chat and most days I am rushing to get somewhere. I don't want to be rude, but it seems like I can't tell them to back off without them getting offended. any ideas on how I can politely get out of these stop and chats?

destiny0619 - Friday, 6 Jan
Do you ladies have any advice on calming morning sickness? I cant remember what I did last time if anything to calm my stomach.

Kodyz boo - Friday, 6 Jan
lovely-yes he is a peanut lol but ud never know by how much he eats. So he was acting the funny for the past couple of ddays a lil more fussy than usual and very clingy and he kept shrugging his shoulders at his ears and on top of that not breathing from his nose good cuz of a nasty cold so something was telling me that he might have an ear infection so i took him in and turns out he had a double ear infection cuz his cold just got worse :( so hes on meds now and although they are working they make him have the runs so bad so we've been doing alot of washing from blow outs :(

lovelybaby2 - Wednesday, 4 Jan
Kodyz boo~~He is a peanut!! My little guy is up to 20pound has been for the last two months.Im still making the veggies & fruits for him, but he is getting the meats we eat, and the bread as well. We gave him eggs over the weekend and he loved it, im thinking by one he will be done with all baby food. bellablue ~~ What a smart little girl!! That is so awesome that she is saying so many words!! bkle~~ I woudn't worry to muchall babies do things at there own pace, but like the girls said if your worried I'd ask ur doc next time u are in.
