9 months old Your baby will be beginning to talk soon! You may have already heard a recognizable word, but now your baby will start to say things voluntarily. Praise your baby and congratulate her for a job well done. Babies like to please adults and if she knows that you are proud, she will be more likely to attempt it again. When you are talking to her, use hand motions to show her what you are talking about. Remember to use clear words so that she can imitate your sounds. When your baby is crying for help or whining for something that she wants, remind her that she can tell you what she wants without crying.

He can crawl up stairs now, so make sure you are using gates at your stairways. He may be able to stand up and take steps at this point. He is able to walk with the support of a sturdy structure or your help. Your baby likes to bang toys together and make noise. If you give your baby blocks, watch him build a tower with them. Your baby probably likes to scribble on paper and likes when she can see you do the same.

Your baby may be scared of things that she was scared of before. This is normal and will probably pass. Your baby is becoming stubborn and begins to test authority at times. This is a part of her becoming independent. She likes to show you her toys, but most likely does not like to share them. Because your baby is beginning to test you and needs more guidance now, it is important to know how to discipline babies. You should prevent a situation that will allow him to do something that you do not like. Do not leave the remote on the table if you don't want him to push a button. Ignore behaviors that are not harmful. If your baby has pulled all of your socks out of the drawer, pick them up and ignore it. Otherwise, it teaches him that he can do things to get your attention. Reward your baby when she is playing well. Don't keep your baby in a playpen or swing all day long. She will not be able to experience the freedom she needs to learn.

Encourage him to use all of his senses every day. Play different types of music for your baby to hear. Introduce your baby to different cultures by playing international music. Allow him to play with toys that have various textures, patterns, colors, sizes and shapes. When you are feeding your baby, give him a variety of flavors try. Your baby can even experience different scents.

Give your baby a large bowl full of dry cereal, noodles, rice, water or other small items. Hand him some measuring spoons or cups and let him dump and scoop the objects. When he learns how to use one item, give him another one to try out. You can also give him old boxes or containers to stack. Other toys that your baby might like are: balls, nesting blocks, books, bath toys, push toys, toys with lights and sounds, musical instruments, dolls and puppets, large trucks and cars, and toy telephones.

Continue to encourage your baby to feed herself by giving her fruits, vegetables, crackers, cereals and cheeses that he can easily eat on his own. Even if your baby is messy when he is eating, praise him for feeding himself. If your baby refuses one type of food today, try it again another day. It can take several tries before a baby will like some foods.

Redhead - Friday, 20 Nov
J9-Scarlett has been doing the same thing at bedtime since she got sick. I think they just get more clingy? Idk Shes fine during the day, but at night forget it.

J9 - Friday, 20 Nov
as for trees, we're going to get a smallish one and put it up on a table or something... it's going to be interesting for sure!

cutelilsurprise - Friday, 20 Nov
No Black Friday shopping for me or my LO. I've worked too many of them and do not wish to be anywhere around a store during that time again.

J9 - Friday, 20 Nov
maddy started crawling today and boy she is getting the hang of it FAST! Thankfully we are all recovering from our suspected swine flu - it's been tough! I have a question, in the last 3 days, despite being totally fine when being put in bed for naps maddy has been absolutely freaking out at bedtime... i mean REALLY freaking out and it's been taking over an hour to finally get her to sleep - she's tired because as soon as you pick her up she collapses but when she senses she's being put down she starts screaming again. Any ideas what's going on? I thought maybe a separation thing but she's fine at other times of day - it is very distressing and i have hurt my back from picking her up and putting her down so much. Any idea what i should do? I don't want to get into a habit of rocking her to sleep but it seems that's all she wants...

kayandrysmom - Friday, 20 Nov
I would put your LO in a front carrier...i dont trust crazy ppl running around and pushing and all that nonsense they could drop something him or bump into his stroller. But no i do not do black friday haha i dont have the patience for it...paying a little extra on a regular day is worth my sanity!

Miracle 3 - Friday, 20 Nov
cuddle cuddle - I love that this one does!! My 1st did 2nd not but now my 2nd loves to cuddle she was just such an overactive baby she couldn't sit stll ever!! :)

tmcheese33 - Friday, 20 Nov
We're getting a live tree, too. I'm a little nervous since our place is pretty small and it's gonna make our place smaller! Cameron loves getting into everything, but I will just have to follow him around and make sure he doens't mess with the tree. He has already eaten dog food 'cause he crawls over there so fast before I can catch him! Are you all taking your LO's shopping on Black Friday? My husband has to work, so Cameron has to come with me at 4am to stand in line. I don't know whether to take a stroller or just use the carrier. Ahhh, this will be interesting!

kayandrysmom - Friday, 20 Nov
Rylee loves to cuddle with her dad...and my older daughter loves to cuddle with me :)

elizabethw - Friday, 20 Nov
So funny how different they can all be, my first baby Adisen was never much of a cuddler, she was too busy and still is! That girl won't sit still for a second! Drew on the other hand is super cuddley, she will crawl up to me and bury her head in my shoulder and just lay there - I love it!

jessberr31 - Friday, 20 Nov
Oh man, I hate the x-mas tree when I have a lo! I HOPE he doesn't bother it, but I doubt thats gonna happen since he wants any and everything in the world, lol! Rachy, Jiovanni has had a few nasty head bumps, well one actual bump bump, I should say head bangs instead. Its bound to happen though, it pretty much goes with the terratory. Lots more to come........:). They need to make baby helmets, lol!

rachy2606 - Friday, 20 Nov
As for the christmas tree situation - we will be putting a fake one up, but I know I'll be forever guarding it from attack and trying to divert Jake away - Imagine what fun that looks like to a baby - bright flashing/twinkling lights, sparkly tinsel, shiny baubles - argh im dreading it Haha.

rachy2606 - Friday, 20 Nov
Boys, eh?! Omg i must've tempted fate or something as this morning Jake was cruising the furniture and like I said before I will usually catch him - well he fell back and hit his head so hard it made an awful noise! He cried then wanted to cuddle me..hmmm..I am checking on him throughout the day and he seems ok. It is 2.00pm here now, and he is having a nap, so I'll see what he is like when he wakes up. Tonight we are going greyhound racing at Wimbledon stadium - taking my 7 year old nephew too, so should be interesting! Ive got a feeling Jake will want to get down and crawl, but Iam not having it. Lol. Lets hope we win some money!

coli - Friday, 20 Nov
But also wanted to say I'm mainly putting a gate around it because of my giant dog! He is also into everything!

coli - Friday, 20 Nov
NO idea about the Christmas tree, I am putting one up for sure, didn't last year because I was 8 months pregnant and didn't want to deal, but I will this year and I plan on putting a gate around it. And lo is into everything~ It's too funny! He used to just sit on my lap forever, or I would have to hold him, but he's mobile and wants to be on the go - so not much of a cuddler unless he's tired~

kayandrysmom - Friday, 20 Nov
We are putting up a christmas tree..it will be a fake one lol. My 1st never bothered the tree she had it up every year since she was born but i guess you could put a fence around it? Rylee is also into everything so im a bit worried about it but id say as long as you keep a good eye on them you should be fine! If you are really worried then just wait until the week of christmas to put it up so its not there too long!

cutelilsurprise - Friday, 20 Nov
What are you guys doing for Christmas? Will you be putting up a tree? I would like for Seth to have a Christmas tree for his first Christmas, but am afraid that it might be too dangerous. He gets into EVERYTHING! I do not think there is anywhere that we could put it to keep him away from it. My husband will only let us get a real tree if we are going to put one up. What do you girls think? Any tips on making it safe around the baby? Also, what have you experienced in the past with previous babies and the Christmas tree? Any problems?

nikki3kids - Friday, 20 Nov
sorry my boy is 8mths. my first boy was a cuddler he still is he is 4 now, my girl was one to but isnt now and my baby now isnt a cuddler and i dont think he ever will be. soo sad to see but he does cry when i leave the room he just doesnt want to cuddle me he wants me to hold him but he has to be able to see everything

sleepyem - Thursday, 19 Nov
ralph's really cuddly too! o man I would cuddle him all day if I could, I can't get enough. my sister reckoned little boys are cuddlier than girls - until they get older I guess! and yes SO SO SO busy and active and on the move constantly!! such a handful! but so funny and such a character, we've had a really great day here. at his 9mth plunket he was 19.8 pounds (I think, his book's in his room!) and 70cm long. is that small??

EthansMommy09 - Thursday, 19 Nov
Ethan loves hugs and kisses. He will be playing with his toys and then he will walk over to me or DH to get some hugs and kisses and then after that he goes back over to his toys to play again lol it is so cute.

MissBella - Thursday, 19 Nov
Awww the joys of boys... My boys were the same way, I had to pin them down just to get some cuddles. Now I have Jaleah and she is such a love bug, so girly and cuddly. She would spend all day chillin on my lap.

jessberr31 - Thursday, 19 Nov
Rachy, thats funny, I was going to say if I saw a faceplant about to happen I move with lightening speed to save the day.:) You know us mommy's have super powers, lol! Jiovanni is always on the go too! He never stops, even when hes tired he falls asleep playing in his crib (like he's doing as I type this).

rachy2606 - Thursday, 19 Nov
Oh just reading back, and i cant be bothered to edit my last post - the cotton wool balls were my version of snow haha what a doofus

rachy2606 - Thursday, 19 Nov
Thats what I have done this year for xmas cards - dressed up Jake in a father xmas outfit, put a few presents around him and scattered cotton wool balls around him HaHa! He did try to eat them, but I put my camera on sports mode so it took lots of photos in one shot, therefore I got a smile in one of them! I'll put up the pic on here tomorrow when i have some time. Jessberr - Maybe its a boy thing! I have started to be a bit more leniant with catching Jake..not that I let him faceplant! But I'll only have a light grip on him so he knows he needs to balance and not put all 23lbs of him on my arms! Oh god, Jake really doesnt stop. Even after his bottle, he'll sit straight up, not even waiting to burp, and will be scouting the room as to what to do next. Then he is off. Urgh...lets hope I get a more relaxed baby next time Lol j/k. Although one GOOD point is that its helping me lose weight! Couple of pounds a week at this rate! woohoo!

jessberr31 - Thursday, 19 Nov
I had Jiovanni on a monday too. All the others were on wednesday, oh no! Full of woe! Rachy, I'm with you on having to pin lo down for a kiss and I always have to force cuddles. Only when he doesn't feel good or super sleepy does he volunteer cuddles. When my lo is standing and gets wobbley he drops on his behind. He figured that out early in the game. I've pretty much just let them fall on their own when they were learning to stand/balance. Jiovanni still only takes one or two steps then drops to his knees and crawls. He knows its easier and faster, lol.

shez05 - Thursday, 19 Nov
